A great experience every time - locally owned spot with delicately crafted tapas. Their sangria is drier than the Mojave desert, but the oxtail... incredible. read more

One of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. Love the tapas - we rarely get a large entree and love just splitting all the small plates. Hands down best thing on the seasonal menu - scallop crudo. We got it both for appetizer AND again for dessert and had zero regrets. They book out early so get your reservations in. Perfect for an intimate date or small group. Price is on the higher end but well within reason of how amazing the food is. Can't wait for the scallops to be back on the menu.... read more

Morcilla is one of my top fav restaurants in Pittsburgh! The food is unique and I have never had a bad dish there. I was so excited when they reopened that I made a reservation as soon as I could. People are surprised that I love Morcilla since I am a pescatarian. They actually have amazing seafood dishes! My boyfriend started off with the chorizo that had vanilla bean and dates on top. It smelled amazing, and he loved it. We looked at the menu online before going and saw that you could get small or large portions of the big plates. When he asked at the restaurant if he could get a smaller portion of the chicken, the waitress said no. He got the large chicken dish and took most of it home for leftovers. I started with the scallop crudo (my fav scallop dish EVER). If you've never had raw scallops before and are nervous to try....this is the place to try them! They melt in your mouth and are like butter. AMAZING. I paired that with a sparkling rosé. We shared the little gem salad. It is so fresh and the fresh herbs makes it taste like Springtime! On to the octopus dish! Grilled octopus over potato puree was the perfect combination of different textures. I paired that with the tempranillo. It was very filling for a small plate. We both loved our meals and ended with the churros. They are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Dipped in what tastes like homemade nutella? So good. We can't wait to make another reservation! read more

I've never been so conflicted when trying a food if I like it or not than when I dined at Morcilla So the atmosphere is great and the staff were very welcoming. We were excited to finally try as people who have traveled a little bit in Spain and loved the food there (and I guess as general food snobs) We tried a lot of the small plates and snacks. I would say the oxtail is not to be missed, and was the best thing we ate. I would say the fried artichokes and salty pork bits charcuterie too were amazing The croquetas, a favorite of mine from Spanish tapas places, were super disappointing. I would honestly say most of the food was okay but had something that wasn't great about it. The confit was tender but didn't pair well with the sauce. The foie blande had so many different flavors that I wouldn't say it was complex, it was just tastebud-confusing. I loved the sauce that the scallop crudo was in, but the texture was super off. The basque cheesecake itself was good, but the sauce overpowered rather than enriched the flavor. The churros were fine, because they were churros I would honestly say it's not worth the price. I am willing to pay premium prices for premium foods, but I don't think Morcilla cuts it. It's entirely possible, of course, that we got the wrong combination of plates, that my expectations were too high, or my palate is garbage read more

I surprised my wife with a visit to Morcilla. She loves good wine, tapas, and Spanish food, and Morcilla did not disappoint. The wine selection was spectacular, with affordable options. The tapas were also good- we had a nice mix of meats, cheeses, sausages, and pastas, sharing small plates and a couple bottles of wine. The service was great, and our water glasses never emptied. The ambiance was eclectic and interesting, keeping me distracted just enough for my wife to keep reminding me we were on a date. It was a lot fun and I highly recommend it for a nice date night or quick stop before a show. read more

First time at Morcilla for monthly date night! This place is perfect for a date night it's a small and intimate restaurant (the downside was you were pretty close to the people on either side next to you and could hear each others convos). Its lower moody lighting which I love. The service was attentive and paced the food appropriately. If you haven't been to a tapas like place before the staff will explain it and have you try to order all your food at once then bring out in waves. Now for the food- everything was excellent! There wasn't a single dish we didn't like! Sharing everything was really fun and we'd get excited for the nice dish to come out. They also have a great bar menu as well. We ended the meal with the churros and they were so good! This place is definitely on the pricey end so it's perfect for celebrating or special occasions. We had a great time and 100% plan to come back read more

First time to this restaurant. Very efficient, we were seated within minutes of our arrival. Our server, Rachel , was great at suggesting items on the menu and she knew just the right amount of small plates to order. Food was awesome! Great flavors. Baby back ribs were a hit. Loved the variety of plates, high quality food, and the service from Rachel was knowledgeable and friendly.

We've been wanting to try Morcilla for the longest time, and boy, did it live up to the hype! My husband and I should've come with another couple to try more of the tapas, but we got a bunch for ourselves, and left full and with very happy stomachs. We got fried artichokes, morcilla montadito, oxtail montadito, foie blonde, beef tartare, little gem and escarole salad, and pulpo a la plancha. I honestly would recommend every dish we ordered. The fried artichokes were INCREDIBLE. My taste buds were dancing! Absolutely must order. The foie blonde was so unique and beautiful and tasty - it was almost like a foie gras dessert! The montaditos were the perfect lil bites. The salad was unreal- the pistachio tapenade was to die for. And the beef tartare and octopus were soooo tasty. Guys seriously order all of these things!!! Already looking forward to heading back to Morcilla. See ya there soon! read more

As a newbie to the entire Pittsburgh area and dining scene, I was very impressed with this Spanish tapas specialist. We were visiting from NJ this weekend and were taken here by our foodie cousins who were very excited to share this place with us. We arrived about 10 minutes late on Saturday night but no problem here. It was somewhat crowded but we were seated promptly. The waitress was so welcoming and ran through the style of food flawlessly and with enthusiasm. She made some pointed recommendations and was especially helpful when we told her that the majority of us are pescatarians. No problem... she guided us accordingly. We started with the matrimonio and marcona almonds. Wow! The bread with anchovies was really tasty and the almonds were surprising since the seasoning had a strong punch of sugar. If you don't mind starting off a bit sweet I think these are a hit. But if you're a bit more savory minded like me, maybe just stick with the matrimonio. They gave us additional bread which I initially thought was unnecessary. Boy was I wrong. Great to sop up all of the different flavors as each plate came out. We snacked on fried artichokes and octopus which were both spectacular. We opted for the pimento cheese snack which I admit felt like a gamble but was quite good. The beets and smoky goat cheese was out of this world. The main plate was a trout which was served whole but the main fish was filleted to perfection. The tomatoes and unctuous sauce were to die for, fresh and herbaceous. Really lovely. The zucchini a la plancha was also a nice small plate. Hazelnuts galore! We were quite stuffed but we wanted to try the churros. Our server was convinced we needed another sweet bite and gave us a complementary peach sorbet in addition. She recommended a dry sherry for the guys to sip on with dessert. Everyone was pleased. The service is so caring. Each course delivered so flawlessly but without any stuffiness and the bus boys came around and cleaned the table multiple times. It was a great dining experience in a pretty trendy but laid back way! Would definitely recommend this place. Apparently the restauranteur is opening another local spot very soon. Run don't walk to Morcilla. You won't be disappointed. read more

I was invited to join friends there and I was reluctant. I read the menu and didn't understand what they served. I'm not much of a "foodie" and many of the offering were items I never eat. But I went. And it was wonderful! The atmosphere is really warm and the waitress was super sweet and extremely helpful and patient. The appetizers broke the ice. The bread was great and you need to look for the lavender almonds! (I know...WHAAAT!?) I shared Gamba Escabeche and Oxtail small plates with my wife. Wonderful. read more

Great food and ambiance. Sat at the bar, services was good. Sangria was ok. Pulpo was awesome.

I mean my goodness do I live this restaurant. I'm just terrible for never posting a review before. I've only been here twice and both times were outstanding and superior. The tapas are so good and exactly what you would expect to get if traveling abroad. It feels like the real deal brought to our steel city steps. the food is freshly prepared with passion that you can taste in each bite. I am a sucker for a great dessert and the blood orange hibiscus sorbet is to die for, I tell you. Rich and creamy without being overpowering. Perfect ending to a proper meal. The small plates, tapas that are my most favorite include charcuteria, winter greens & citrus salad and chorizo. The New York Strip Steak is so good, it melts in your mouth. The next time we go back we're going to do the family feast. I'm super excited for that. read more

Wow this place is delicious! I can't believe I hadn't heard of it before now! A friend on mine suggested coming here last-minute on a Friday night around 9pm. Fortunately after about 20min or waiting we were able to snag 2 seats at the bar, but I would definitely recommend making a reservation as it was quite crowded! I started out with a glass of Sangria Roja, which was quite a generous pour - even though it was delicious, it took me all evening to finish! For food, we mostly ordered vegetarian/vegan with a little seafood. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had lots of vegetarian options. It's hard to highlight dishes because everything was so good. My favorites were probably the Croquetas de Bacalao and the Crispy Fried Sunchokes. My dining partner opted to order the Roaster Peppar Conserva, which I was initially skeptical of, but I ended up liking more that he did. We also enjoyed the Setas a La Plancha. I really liked how the veggie-centric dishes were served with toasty bread slices One note: a lot of their veggie dishes unexpectedly contained nuts, which we really enjoyed, but be sure to notify your server of allergies, as they were not always listed in the ingredients. The food here is amazing! read more

Morcilla - Sangria Rojo - Spanish Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Here is a list of things I love about Morcilla: 1. The food. This is a good thing to love at a restaurant. Morcilla offers some of my favorite things, including beautiful beets, exceptional ribs, perfectly cooked seafood, and all the charcuterie including spreadable salami and a surprise star, the Cecina. This cured beef upstaged a lot of the pork (as we all know, the finest meat to cure) with it's roasted pepper conserva. Plus it all looks damn good, in addition to being tasty. 2. The bar program. I could drink the Piel de Sapo for the rest of my life, and the other cocktails I tried were nearly as good. Toss in some great sangria, the best sherry selection I may have ever seen, and the awesome and insane cider pour thingy (technical term) happening at the front of the bar, and there's nothing not to love. 3. The service. We almost always sit at the bar, and there's very few places where that's a better call. The bartenders know their biz, make great recommendations, and are just generally pleasant people to be around. That's it. That's all you need to get me in here. read more

Gosh, why did it take us so long to dine at Morcilla?! I'm honestly angry with myself for not getting there sooner. We brought some friends who are about the move to Spain and it was like the perfect bridge between their current home and soon-to-be home. Vermouth galore! And every bite of food we put into our mouths had us sliding out of our chairs. Of particular note is the honey nut squash served on a puree of sweet potato with tahini and a delicious pecan topping AND the braised cabbage in a lobster saffron butter sauce with trout roe. It was extremely difficult to avoid licking my plate. We shared some churros and a chevre cheesecake for dessert and that cheesecake is a true artistic creation. I've never had anything like it before. The service was beyond impeccable and our gluten-free guest was treated to special plates for the courses that needed alteration. What a splendid dinner! I can't wait to go back. read more

Outstanding. Maybe the best meal I've ever had in Pittsburgh. We got (in very, very rough order of how much we liked them): Sobrasada Oxtail Serrano ham Salt cod croquettes Octopus Beef tartare Beets Olives Patatas bravas Churros Queso This was a ton of food for two people -- we were both incredibly stuffed after, and yet there were still more things on the menu we would have liked to have tried (eg brussel sprouts, ribs, and especially more charcuterie). That said, we really liked all of the above, and I'd be fine getting any of those dishes (besides for maybe the queso) again. Highly recommend this place. read more

We had a decent meal tonight, but were slightly underwhelmed. Our favorite dish was the trout- it was well prepared and delicious. Otherwise, the drinks were good not great, and majority of the food we ordered was lukewarm. Our first few bites of the croquettes were warm and then we had a bite that was actually cold. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu here! Everything is just amazing. It's certainly a place you want to go with good company and friends willing to split and taste everything. They have a "feast" that you can do for the table that includes some fo the best items on the menu. We made our own feast since I needed gluten free items! We ordered 4 snacks, 3 small plates, a large plate, and all the desserts. It was a perfect amount and we did not leave stuffed from too much!! My favorite were the Arroz Con Pitu De Caleya large plate. I wouldn't normally order chicken and rice out for dinner but our friends raves about it! Thee chicken was cooked to perfection from the time we ordered until we ate it. The chicken was crispy and tender over amazing rice!! The octopus was my other favorite dish. Everything else was just amazing too!! Look forward to going back to try more! They were very accommodating to help prepare gluten free items! read more

Really tasty and unique food. Tapas are fun because you get to try a little bit of everything. Waiter recommended 5-6 total dishes for two people and that was a good amount. Morcilla - Larryville - Spanish Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Visiting from Los Angeles and decided to stop in here. I had the beef tartare, foie blonde, and the bistec. Steak tartare - dry, lacking flavor, almonds/nuts and olives in steak tartare is questionable. What was with the cheese? Always risky business messing with a classical French dish. Foie blonde - have had this dish in various rendition(s). It doesn't work with strawberries. Cherries provide the sweetness necessary to balance out the dish. The brioche and nuts just increase the richness of the dish... when the star of the dish is incredible dense and rich. Bistec - low quality steak dish. Why was it cut up and placed on the plate like patches? Steak was unevenly cooked with some parts being more towards the rare side instead of medium rare. So I am gathering the steak wasn't basted or it was essentially cut immediately after cooking. The steak was fairly bland from a seasoning standpoint. Don't really understand the use of two very different sauces. Is this a meat dish or a sauce dish? Overall... not that impressed. Much better fine dining experiences exist in Pittsburgh for the same price or less. read more

Do yourself a favor - if you can turn on your oven and stir, order one of the curbside meal kits from Morcilla. Like many, we have ordered a LOT of take out in the last 10+ months and this is hands down the best. It was easy to order online and a masked server brought it out to the car when we arrived to pick up. I believe that the price ($100 for 2 people) was also reasonable - especially since the drinks are free when you're at home! The kit came with clear reheating/plating instructions and included the following: 1. Escarole "Aux Lardons" salad with pancetta vinegarette, croutons, a soft boiled egg 2. Crispy duck confit 3. Roasted carrots with a smoked maple dijon glaze 4. Parsnip and celery root lyonnaise 5. Blood orange pudding with meringue Our favorites were the duck and the celery root/parsnip magic. The duck crisped up again in the oven and came out sizzling. The menu rotates every 2 weeks or so - will definitely order again. I'm read more

Morcilla - Bistec a la Plancha Plate - Spanish Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Morcilla is a one of a kind restaurant specializing in cured meats and is probably one of the best of its kind in the whole country.

The food was good. I don't usually eat Spanish food so some of the flavor was a bit unfamiliar but everything tasted great. The service was subpar. Our waitress purposefully doubled 2 of our dishes without telling us, and since it was a small appetizer we just thought it's the normal amount. We didn't realize this until the bill came out and we saw 2 charges for the same dish that we only ordered once. We ended up paying for it because we didn't want to make a fuss but it left a bad impression of the restaurant. I didn't like having food that I didn't order brought to my table without my knowledge and then having to pay for it. read more

This has been our favorite restaurant for years. I love a place that reminds me of great meals I've had in Spain, but other than Morcilla, there isn't a restaurant quite like that in Pittsburgh. It's unique, imaginative and well thought out. We hadn't been here for quite a while, but it was my birthday, and we had a gift card, so the timing was perfect. And so was everything about our evening! First of all, we were welcomed warmly, and the hostess even came over to chat. We have to compliment our server, Greta, who was wonderful. She elevated our dinner from a pleasant meal to a memorable experience. Greta apparently hasn't been there very long, but she knew the menu well, and was friendly and efficient without being intrusive. She checked back often, and made several good recommendations. Oh, the red vermouth! And the Estrella Damn Lager from Barcelona---really good beer. The food, as it has been for every visit, was excellent. My husband always gets the Costillas de la Matanza (pork ribs), and he always likes them. I like to taste as many different dishes as I can, and I can honestly say that I've liked everything I've eaten. We started with the conservas, which is just the right assortment of appetizers. I loved my gambas (shrimp), and eggplant. I want to come back and try everything that is not meat! They have quite a few veggie and seafood options. Because it was my birthday, we were gifted with complimentary churros for desert. I was full, but I had to make room. They were warm and crunchy outside, soft inside, and came with a cup of rich chocolate for dipping. Perfection. To me, this is the only slight downside---as other reviewers have said, it can get a bit noisy. I've noticed this in other restaurants, and it isn't totally the restaurants fault. I think there are a lot of "loud talkers" out there, no matter where you go. Seriously, if you are reading this review and realize that you might be one of those "loud talkers" maybe consider interacting with your companions in a normal conversational voice, instead of shouting. That said, my husband and I are older, and it may be harder for us to hear each other. Everyone is having fun, so it's not a big drawback. Thanks to Morcilla for a lovely birthday---we'll be back soon! read more

Totally loved Morcilla and can't wait to go back. Street parking. Intimate atmosphere, friendly service and delicious food! I recommend reservations as we had reservations for 2 at 630 on a Monday and they were very busy. We were still served quickly despite how busy they were. Our server was so nice. When I told her I was pescatarian, she marked up my menu so I knew exactly what I could order. The Brussel sprouts snack was amazing! Shaved Brussels, feta, pomegranate with a sherry dressing. So flavorful and I only wish there was more! The warm bread snack with herbed oil was good but I think other snacks are more worth it. For small plates we went with the croquettes and fried sunchokes, both highly recommended by me. My husband thought the croquettes were a little bland for him but they're served with a honey dipping sauce and I enjoyed it. We shared the trout large place which was so buttery and delicious! We ate every piece! For dessert, you can't go wrong with the churros and chocolate hazelnut dipping sauce. Everything was so fresh and served hot, you could tell nothing sat in the kitchen. Husband and I shared 2 snacks, 2 small plates, 1 large plate and dessert. It was the perfect amount of food for us. Husband also had a cocktail and espresso. Total about $110 and worth every cent! If you like tapas, you've got to try Morcilla! Can't wait to come back! read more

The place has a quaint feel, as if you're in a vineyard of sorts. The staff also were pleasant! We came only for the food. We ordered a number of dishes, The duck came with a small dried piece of duck, and hard lentils, The liver was too sweet, very little liver, and over compensated for with sugar, The Seafood sopa tasted like liquid smoke and tomatoes, The oxtail was tasty and well done, but not authentic tasted like BBQ sauce. The spicy honey didn't taste good at all. Not a good balanced honey to spice. Too many dishes on the menu, non were executed to perfection. This place has amazing bar food, nonetheless. Some of the best bar food. But we weren't looking for that. read more
