Hostess was kind to seat us without reservations. The seasonal mule and ice tea were ordered with our appetizers (artichokes & buratta). Yum. We chose the duck and swordfish as entrees. My swordfish was perfectly done. The duck was too rare for me but my guest enjoyed it. Then the rain started. The wind was blowing. The lights flickered. It was really coming down. We lingered to not have to run through the raindrops. Ordered the carrot lava cake to go ... has quinoa. Haven't heard yea or nay yet. I felt underdressed in Bermuda shorts. Part of the Big Burrito group of restaurants, Casbah is a great place with a lot of tasty choices. One of the things that is interesting is that it almost feels like two separate restaurants. When you enter, there is an outer space that is sort of like an enclosed porch or patio (but more upscale). The back part feels more upscale, a little darker and has a more romantic feel. It is a great place for a special occasion or date, but also great for a more casual dinner. They have a small parking lot and also offer valet parking. There is also on street, metered parking in the area as well. This is usually the place that I choose to use my big burrito birthday voucher every year because they have so many things I enjoy eating. They often have themed menus focusing on certain ingredients or seasons, so watch for those specials. Their appetizer selections are amazing and I would come just to enjoy a few apps! My favorite is the Red Pepper Muhummara. It is packed with flavor and has a taste I have yet to find duplicated even with similar dips. I have also enjoyed their Burrata and whatever variety of Risotto they happen to be featuring. Entrees range from pastas to chicken, duck and steak. My favorite pasta I've had is the Orecchiette. It is creamy and the addition of the cranberries give it such a comfort food feel. I also really like their duck dish. They have a nice selection of wines in a variety of price points and also have some fun cocktails. This is a great place and I highly recommend a meal here. read more

There's not a lot of places that are open for lunch on a Monday so I'm glad Casbah does lunch! Our server was lovely and asked us if we wanted a second bread basket. Reservation for 2. Walked thru the front door and through the 1st room to the 2nd where the host stand was. Quickly seated. When the room gets filled up, it can get noisy. Had a great spicy margaritas. Husband said summer salad was good, I liked the peaches in it. The scallop appetizer was amazing. The short rib ravioli was a little too salty for my liking. A nice bar area with an interesting wine list. On our recent visit we started with the grilled Artichokes that are very tasty with the ezme. The homemade pasta are always good. The Red Pepper Casereccia with Scallops was perfectly cooked and had a nice buttery flavor. On other recent visits have had the crab sandwich and the tasty and savory Lamb Shank. We came here for a birthday celebration- they are part of the Big Burritto corp ... of which - we have always had a great meal/experience. This was our first time at the restaurant! Street parking .. we got lucky with one right out front. We did have reservations and got seated right away- make reservations if you plan on going! It is quite a busy restaurant... We sat down and were greeted rather quickly. Places drink order and apps. The brought us sourdough bread with two different butters. Personally I liked the regular butter with sea salt. Apps came out - falafels and red pepper hummus with pita ( man that was good)! I opted for the swordfish, my sister got the halibut (should have went with that because it looked fantastic)... even the salmon looked fantastic - all the food was delicious! Casbah was a great find and amazing WIN! Do not sleep on this one!!! We went for lunch, on my wife's birthday. She had the best Cosmo she ever had. I had a Black and Gold Rush, that was a bourbon special, celebrating the Steelers, during the 2026 draft. For lunch my wife had beautifully seared scallops. I had the most wonderful cheese board!!!! What a treat! Free valet but you do have to tip! Worth it. So worth it. It looks like its on the side of a strip mall from the outside and the inside had two different areas. We were seated in the well lit area and it was beautiful. Our service was great. I got a wine flight. I enjoyed all 3. But the mushroom lasagna was unreal. I think the mushroom was dehydrated and it was like crispy bacon. The best Ive ever had. And the bread service had two different butters which I am always a fan of. We loved it! While I've been to Casbah for brunch a couple of times, we recently did dinner for the first time. I requested seating at the lower level, which turned out to be a great choice as I think the ambiance is way nicer downstairs. They seemed to suggest they use it more so as an overflow for walk-ins. We had some of their non-alcoholic mixed drinks, which tasted good and came with nice presentation that is often lacking. We had the Burrata as an appetizer. We didn't want the accompanying Prosciutto, but the server replaced it with hummus and pita, which was a very nice gesture. We had the Short Rib Ravioli, which was rather hearty, and the Branzino. The bread pudding was a bit unique in that it seemed more along the lines of crispy toast; however, I was really pleased with it. It was creative and a winner! I'd love to have it again. One change or addition I would have liked was a bit more olive oil in flavors and accompaniments given this is a "Mediterranean" restaurant. Also, I think they would be well served to polish the presentation a bit since dishes seem to come with splatters. Good date night spot! read more

Casbah is a great option for special occasions, date nights, and visitors. The ambiance is rustic, intimate, and would be suitable for smaller groups (with reservations). If you sign up for the restaurant groups mailing list, they send you a credit for an entree valid at most of their restaurants. We chose here and were not disappointed. They offer fun seasonal offerings in addition to pastas and their main menu. During our visit they had a winter pasta festival theme with 6 smaller pasta dishes. They all looked great. It's actually a mailing list I enjoy reading the emails from. We tried the Spanish octopus appetizer, ricotta cavatelli, and Lemon Lumache (winter special). Everything was great. I started with an Aperol spritz, which was great. The food was superb! The burrata appetizer with cherry tomatoes and prosciutto was so good that I ate it before I had a chance to take a picture of it. The roasted half chicken with potatoes, carrots, squash, mushrooms, pistachios, and thyme. Juice was out of this world! The server, who was excellent and accommodating, had recommended the chicken and I'm glad I listened to him. The chicken skin was crispy and tasty, and even the salad and vegetables were seasoned perfectly. Even the bread was so good that I took all the extra bread home! We have been coming here for 25 years. One of our group maintains: "still my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh." The kitchen has never failed to render the menu perfectly whether it be dinner or brunch. Front of house team is relentlessly gracious and always knows the menu and kitchen well. Decided to celebrate our 11th anniversary at a place we hadn't been before - Casbah. We were seated downstairs which was cozy and intimate. Our server was very attentive and the pace of the meal was perfect. We had a hard time narrowing down our food choices, but I think we made some excellent picks. Started off with the crispy calamari and rock shrimp, roasted beet salad, and grilled artichokes. For our mains, my husband ordered the red pepper casereccia with scallops while I opted for the Scottish salmon with lentils and green beans. Everything was so delicious, and we managed to eat it all! Despite being completely full from our meal, our server brought us salted caramels which was a nice surprise. Casbah used to be great, but it's slipped. We were there several times a year but took a break for a while after some mid meals. Back last weekend, server took the butter and labneh away when I still had a piece of bread on my plate, noticed he did on his way away from the table (because I said "welp, I guess no butter for me") paused, and kept walking. Never brought it back. One of our apps was cold. They re-fired it while we both shared the other one. Not a huge deal, but then my entree was cold (my partner's was hot.) I took a few bites but room-temp pork and risotto isn't super appealing. His lasagne was delicious. They did take the pork off of the check. I just feel like a restaurant of this caliber that's been open this long with a mostly fixed menu should run like clockwork. read more

Nestled on what I would consider restaurant row in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh lies Casbah, a truly magnificent gem of Mediterranean cuisine!! Upon entering we were whisked past a large tent of small one to one romantic tables downstairs to a gorgeous wine cellar grotto with large rounded booths for fine dining, camaraderie, and collusion!! Brandon, our guide for this evenings feasting was also a bartender, so be it food or drink, we were covered!!! The Moroccan Spiced Mint Tulip was an excellent drink starter, strong and refreshing!! Around the table were a House Gin & Tonic, a Moscow Mule, and a Sparkling Cosmo for the lady of our group. All were simply smashing! Staunching the powers of these drinks were a trio of delicious appetizers. Shredded Elysian Lamb with warmed cherry tomatoes served with freshly made flat bread. It was like having a taste of comforting warm stew. The lightly batter kissed shrimp and calamari were perfectly paired with a very tasty lemon aioli dipping sauce. Closing out the trio was a dish of veal & pork meatballs in a wonderful tomato garlic sauce!! Quite happy but wanting more, Brandon moved us on to the main event. I opted for a flight of old world red wines to carry me through the rest of my dinner journey, each different yet complimentary in their own right. I chose the Lobster and Pappardelli for my entree. Quite astounded finding so many large chunks of savory lobster under every noodle. The sauce was garlic and oil based colored decadently with Sun Dried Tomatoes! Other fantastic dishes that graced our table included Short Rib Ravioli with a mushroom and shallot sauce that was transcendent not to mention the generous amount of ravioli. My eldest had a double thick pork chop served over prosciutto risotto. He left only the bone on the plate. The lady had a roasted half chicken served with crispy potatoes, carrots and mushrooms delicately coated with a fresh thyme jus.. In a word, Extraordinary!!! Happily sated with the soft low light ambiance, robust drinks, and belly warming food we were now ready to be put out of our sweet misery with dessert!! A small glass of Amaro, warm and herbaceous, accompanied my first ever carrot lava cake. The perfect spiced note to end a meal with. Also enjoyed were the Creme Brulee as well as the Raspberry & Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding!! Casbah truly shattered all expectations in service, atmosphere, and exquisite cuisine. I really enjoyed the ambience of this place and great food. We were seated in the basement which turned out to be nice and cool with great decor and lighting. It felt like we were in a speakeasy bar. The waiter was incredible. He did not only check in on us frequently, but he was very thorough in his recommendations. We ordered the spread which consisted of three different dishes and chickpea bread. My favorite was hummus followed by the pepper thing. I don't remember exactly the names. I didn't get to try the main dish as I was completely full after the spread, but they had a variety of pescatarian dishes and a few vegetarian. If you are a vegan, it would be a bit difficult to find something unless you want to go for some salads. Overall, I enjoyed dinner. I'd recommend to come with empty stomachs to enjoy several dishes. read more

It was soo good, the acid from the vinaigrette paired with the sweet cherries, granola in such a great way. Our server recommended the roasted half chicken. I don't usually order chicken at a restaurant but I rolled with it. I am glad I did. The chicken was cooked perfectly with a nice crisp skin while being moist on the interior. The tartar was good quality and combined with the toasted bread, creme fresh and some caviar. It was. A blend of crunchy texture and salty flavor. To add, the calamari was the best I've had. It was different from the other ones I've eaten. The pieces were very tender and more salted under neath the fried crust. As my main course, I had the pork chops and it was nicely cooked as I expected from a fine dining restaurant. Once thing that I didn't enjoy was the lemon cream on creme brûlée. I recently visited Casbah for their annual Festa di Pasta: Tomato & Corn. It was busy at 6 p.m. on a Wednesday, so I'm glad we made a reservation! We started with wine and the calamari and rock shrimp appetizer. It was delicious and a large portion with an amazing lemon aioli and some sort of sweet and sour sauce? Highly recommend. I ordered the Crab Linguine and my friend ordered the Street Corn Lasagna. She loved the lasagna, but I wasn't crazy about the linguine. It was definitely super fresh, but not too much flavor beyond the sweet corn and buttery sauce. It took a bit longer than expected to get our entrees, but the beautiful patio made up for it. It feels very open, but still closed from weather and they have a lot of nice plants and artwork that liven up the space. I was visiting the town of my birth - I was born a few blocks away from the restaurant - and we went to Casbah Saturday night. We had some delicious bread with labneh, doused with olive oil. It was very tasty but I couldn't quite get the taste of the olive oil, so I asked for a separate dish. It was excellent olive oil - spicy and just peppery enough! I started off with the Veal and Pork meatballs with crispy Brussel sprouts. The meatballs were seasoned so tastefully, and were tender with a great consistency. The crispy Brussel sprouts were unusual but complimented the meatballs very well. I ordered the Short Rib Ravioli. I had the dish in NYC last month and the pasta was too 'Al dente' - I had to chew it more than the short rib inside! I asked our server about the consistency of these raviolis, he said they were very tender. He was correct. The pasta was cooked perfectly and there was a generous portion of savory, tender short rib in each ravioli. However, this dish was different in that he sauce wasn't a Brown Butter, or Red, or Carbonara. It was a deep, rich beef broth - it reminded me of the gravy from my Mother's brisket. The raviolis had quickly absorbed the broth and were a darker color, and as juicy as you could imagine! It was a different spin on a dish I've had several times, but it was excellent. read more
