Very nice Mediterranean restaurant. I visited this place on the day before Mother's Day, and it was surprisingly not super packed. It's got a nice location on the central road in Squirrel Hill, but it's a bit hard to find parking. When I got there, I got to try their shish tawouk (chicken kabob), mujadara, salad with feta, and iced mint tea. The tea was pretty alright. Refreshing and a nice mint flavor; I think they might make the blend in house. They also brought out some nice pita before we started the meal. For my main course, I ordered the shish tawouk. You usually get this meal with the rice pilaf, but they were out, so I got to try the mujadara. I'm actually quite glad! The chicken was tender, and the portion was very fair. They served it with a nice tomato sauce, but I also asked for some garlic sauce on the side. The sauces both seem to be homemade, and definitely go well with the chicken. The mujadara was surprisingly delicious. They top the dish with crispy sweet onions. It's a mix of lentils and some other grain. Very good! One thing to mention generally is this place closes quite early, usually around 8 or 8:30 PM, so do keep it in mind. It is also very clearly a family endeavor, with the mom managing most of the tables and the kids always helping out. Very nice place! read more

Service was a little casual but ok Had hummus for appetizers - was a disappointing experience as there was far too much tahini for my taste and it completely overwhelmed the flavor. The pita was very dry and hard. The salad was ok but the grated feta cheese did not enhance it. Had Filet Mignon prepared medium - dish came with a lot of rice but the meat was very salty. Dish was just ok and not something I would try again. The quality did not match the price. Overall it's a 2.5 star. read more

Phenomenal. We hadn't gotten around to checking this place out in the past, because they are closed during our normal Saturday takeout window (around noon). We eventually found a slot to place an order on a day when our schedule was shifted somewhat, and we were very impressed. The grape leaves were excellent, with a pleasant lemon flavor. The fattoush salad had the perfect level of crispy pita pieces. The Mujaddara had the perfect amount of caramelized onion flavor and texture. The falafel was good, but the tomatoes and lettuce it came with were just a little sad. The taboulee salad was exactly what you would want it to be. For the most part, everything was good, and there were plenty of vegetarian options. In terms of the restaurant itself, everything was nicely decorated and tidy. The ordering process and pickup was very easy, though they didn't have an online ordering option (that I could find). That said, calling to place an order was easy enough. In general, this was an excellent find with a wide range of delicious Mediterranean food. read more

I am so amazed with the meal my family had here tonight. The food is some of the best (if not the best) Mediterranean in Pittsburgh. This place is a must try! Located in the heart of Squirrel Hill along the main drag, this small family run restaurant is one of my new favorites. We had a rather large party (10 of us) and they easily accommodated us. The young man working as the server did a great job. We ordered a variety of appetizers, including the mezza plate, grape leaves, and feta fries. all were truly incredible! By far some of the best grape leaves any of us had ever had, and the tabouli was so fresh and delicious (as was the babaganoush and hummus). We ordered a variety of entrees. The red lentin soup was very good, and I got the filet entree that came with a greek salad and rice pilaf. Others in our party got the kafka plate, mixed grill with chicken and filet, as well as the gyro platter. WOW. The food is truly incredible, but we would probably skip the gyro platter next time. The salad was delicious (almost like a greek caesar dressing) and the rice pilaf is hands down the best I had. Huge portion but no complaints here, we love a good rice pilaf. Our meats were all cooked and seasoned perfectly too. I recommend getting a side of the garlic sauce if you, like us, like garlic. its a great addition to dip your meat into etc. They also had some desserts, and we enjoyed the baklava and lemon cream cake (which was a HGUE slice)! Came in for dinner with my mom and brother. The space is small, but bright and colored with inviting shades of blue. We were excited to try this restaurant because we love Mediterranean food and garlic in general We ordered the hummus and pita as an appetizer. The hummus was amazing!! So creamy, great flavor, no bitterness, very fresh. The pita bread came out warm, but didn't wow us. It seemed like a pre-packaged option that they just warm in the back. I ordered the lamb shawarma wrap, my mom had the chicken shawarma wrap, and my brother had the gyro platter. I loved the lamb shawarma wrap. It was juicy and flavorful from the first bite. It was also huge! I had to take half home for lunch the next day. My brother enjoyed the side salad that came with his platter ($2 to added shredded feta seemed a little high. We all agreed that feta should be included on a salad at a Mediterranean restaurant..) The gyro platter came with a pound of rice, I swear. It was lightly buttered and my brother thought it went well with the gyro meat. Unfortunately, the chicken shawarma wrap and garlic mousse was a disappointment. The chicken chunks were white. Bare. Plain. Absolutely no seasoning to be found. The entire wrap had no flavor at all. It tasted like chicken with lettuce and tomato. Period. We asked for a side of the garlic mousse to dip the wrap in and hopefully add some flavor. We were charged $2.50 for the side of mousse and it also had zero flavor. It was like whipped yogurt with a hint of lemon. No garlic to be spoken of. I would definitely come back for the hummus and lamb shawarma, but wouldn't recommend the chicken shawarma to anyone who is looking for that true garlic flavor. read more

Their entrees are huge and come with a salad. I love the thickness of the dejaj bil khudar -- the green peas, tomato soup, and the chicken breast mixed up so well! I wish the rice was a bit less bland but it blends very well with the meat. The food came out in less than 10 min. I believe this is a family-run restaurant. Super impressive given there were many large parties. The host was fast in filling up water and offering to-go boxes. We went during Christmas season. The meat & rice were cooked well as neither was dry, but they truly tasted unseasoned. I don't give many 5 star reviews, but this place is fantastic. We loved everything about it from the decor to the food. First thing to note is they moved across the street. Someone should update Yelp because it's confusing. They did a nice job updating the new space. It's clean and homey. The salad was delicious, especially since we added the feta which was fresh and delicious. They had some lunch specials, which was really nice. I had the filet kabobs and they were tender and delicious. The red sauce that comes with it is everything. My husband loved the gyro platter too. The meat was tender and delicious. The food is always delicious, hot, and perfectly cooked. There are options for every person (hummus & pita, salads, rice dishes, grape leaves, and so much more). Seating can be limited and they do not take reservations. So waiting a few minutes for a table is likely (because they're always so busy!) However, when they weather permits, outdoor seating is available! Med Grille is great for family get together, date night, or for catching up with friends. This place was awesome. Such a good place for vegan options. I've had a hard time finding good falafel in Pittsburgh but decided to give them a shot. My boyfriend and I both got the falafel wrap and shared some tabbouleh. Everything was good and reasonably priced. The falafel was crispy and flavorful, totally fulfilling my craving. The falafel wrap is vegan as it comes. The menu in person doesn't have things marked vegan but the online one does. I'll definitely come back! read more

I frequented this place years ago when they were in a basement; now they have a (slightly) larger storefront on Forbes. I went for the first time in a decade or so and had the dinner filet, which was two kabobs of tender, flavorful meat over a bed of rice. Nice meal, one I would get again. We went yesterday, party of four, we arrive at about 6:00 on the dot. The place is nice, clean, not fancy. It was busy. We were seated fast and after that everything seemed to go downhill. We felt like we had to ask for everything. Glasses for wine (BYOB), soft drinks available, water. We barely had time to look at the menu when we were approached to order. The wait person was friendly and answered our questions. We ordered the sampler platter and our entrees. The sample arrived in no time. Ok, that's nice. But before we were able to try the sampler the salads came. Ok we can hold back eating the salads while we try the sampler. But no! Then the entrees arrived. Everything all at once! Then suddenly before even one plate was cleared our check arrived! We had to ask if there was a dessert menu after the check! Really? We were "finished" in less than an hour all told. It was not quite 7:00! It felt weird. No time to really enjoy the food. Now look, for a restaurant that isn't especially inexpensive (some entries are in the upper $20s-$30 (that's fine), we would have thought they knew how to pace the dinner service. It was like going to a fast food place. The food tasted pretty good. The sampler platter was the best. Our entrees got cold while we snarfed down the salads and appetizer platter. It looks like they have a lot of take out and maybe that's the way to go. When people go out for dinner at other than a fast food place it's expected that you'll have enough time to pace the meal, enjoy tasting everything and feel like you had a "dining experience," not a rush job. First time I have been to Mediterranean Grill since they moved to the new location. Before it was dark and in a basement type area. Now there is a lot of natural light and its much more welcoming. We actually ordered our food to go and did not dine in today, however, there was plenty of seating around 12:45pm on a weekday. We ordered the chicken schwarma, falafel wrap and hummus. Everything was just perfect! I would get this everyday of the week if I could. I will be back soon to "dine in". read more

Updating my review. The Mediterranean Grill moved. They are now located across the street from their previous location AND......they are on street level now! So now, you can get amazing food and a window seat!! You can even eat outside on nice days. I am dedicated to their salads and their Mousakka. You cannot really go wrong with anything you order there; but, honestly, I just can't seem to get passed these two dishes. I've gotten their salad with gyro, lamb, and chicken. Everything is great. Came here on takeout chance as we were in a hurry so we didn't have the exact sit down we would like. We only ordered some grape leaves, one with no meat and the other with meat. We also ordered some baklava. From this brief experience I can already tell that the sit down experience would likely be the same if not better. We were greeted very kindly by a waitress and asked for takeout as we were in a hurry. The grape leaves took 4 minutes to my surprise and they were scorching hot and delicious! In addition the baklava was just made and was being put out for guest. You can tell they make things fresh every early afternoon to be ready for the day since we stopped in 30 minutes after opening. They have a wide variety of foods in they're menu, and just from this small experience I can only imagine what's it's like to get a full blown meal. The leaves and baklava were so good that we are planning to come here for a late lunch on a following trip to Pittsburgh which is an hour drive. So yum! We ordered the shish tawouk, shish kafta, baba ghanouj and the lemon cake, and everything was delicious. The chicken, lemon cake and the feta cheese on top of the salad were the STARS of the show! I am typically not a fan of lemon cake but the photos on Instagram looked so good, I had to try and I am so glad I did! The prices aren't inexpensive but the quality of the food makes it worth every penny. So glad Pittsburgh has such an incredible Mediterranean restaurant! read more

UPDATE: apparently, the manager of the restaurant, "Jess N" just voted this review as "funny" -- really professional way to handle a bad experience. I'm always for giving places a second try but that type of service makes it truly difficult. 2ND UPDATE: The manager of the restaurant has now also voted this review "cool" and "useful", likely because I updated my review when she voted it "funny". Still have not received any sort of message surrounding the bone in my shawarma or the bad experience overall. I've been coming to Med Grille for nearly 20 years and don't plan to stop anytime soon. I've visited a variety of countries in the Mediterranean + Middle East, and I've yet to I've yet to find a hummus recipe that beats Med Grille's. Their salads have been a go-to staple for me and my family, and when their grape leaves are hot + fresh, I can't pass them up. If you know me, you know that my fam and I LOVE Med Grille and never let an opportunity go by without spreading the word to folks who've never had the pleasure of eating here. I've not been able to get here as often as I'd hoped considering the limitations of the past few months, but if you're able to get yourself there for a pick-up, you won't be disappointed! Offering delivery would be a game-changer, but they've been successful as a family-run business without it for years, so I completely understand why they'd not want to sacrifice such a large chunk of the profits using Seamless/GrubHub, etc. read more

This restaurant is hidden in a basement location near Pussycat and The Chocolate Moose in Squirrel Hill. The food was pretty good--not spectacular, but good enough. We had the mezza platter (hummus, baba ghannouj, tabboolee, feta cheese, and olives) and falafel. Hint: if you plan to order this, save the warm pita your server brings you for your dinner. The baba tasted a bit too smoky but the falafel and tabboolee (the restaurant's spelling) were pretty good. The falafel was crispy and delicious. You'll see the option of ordering feta fries on the menu. We did this out of curiosity but probably wouldn't again. This is American-cut fries sprinkled with feta. Only in Pittsburgh can you order fries with Middle East cuisine. With cheese on top. Only in Pittsburgh. Anyway, it was a decent vegetarian dinner and the service was excellent. read more
