Just had brunch at Anthos with the sisters in law, and what a wonderful experience. This adorable place - fresh, bright, colorful (think white/navy/sunny yellow - Mediterranean chic), with an energetic vibe - was such a treat for us. The staff was so friendly. It was bustling with people at around 11:30am on a recent Saturday, and one of my SIL's got there early to try to wrangle a 4-top for us. One kind server helped her. You order at the end of the long counter after you gaze at what amounts to, well, food porn! The breads, pastries, cookies - so much beautiful abundance all at your fingertips! You can grab any of those as you pass by almost cafeteria style - and we did (!!) - the best being this chocolaty-custardy pastry resembling a pain au chocolate (but SOO much better) that just blew our minds! The woman behind the counter told me we HAD to have one, and I'm so glad she did. Truly one of the best I've ever had. Don't remember the name, but it's highlighted in one of the pics. The other pastries were quite good, too - the almond croissant and another that had a yummy date jam/pistachio mixture on top. YUM!! All of it went beautifully with my flavorful latte. We all also ordered the mushroom toast from the menu--- and while the blend of sautéed mushrooms was impressive, the truffle leek béchamel over top was just TOO salty. So sad - cuz so much of it was executed beautifully, including the sourdough and melty Gruyère! We all also ordered the same takeout salad -- the Anthos House Salad which proved quite tasty, a really nice blend of brandied figs, grilled mushrooms, almonds on fresh, crispy arugula with a lovely apple molasses vinaigrette. I've reviewed Anthos before for an elite event but since then I've been back 2-3 times and every time it just gets better. It's my favorite place to eat solo, so welcoming and staff always provide good suggestions. I find parking easy in lot behind the building. Everything always tastes so fresh & affordable for quality items. Very comfortable atmosphere. I recommend to everyone! read more

Anthos is an ABSOLUTE GEM Authentic Greek dishes that make you feel like you are at an actual Greek Cafe!! You can't go wrong with any dish here. The staff is so friendly too and always smiling and ready to help make your time at Anthos a true delight. We got the Octopus, breakfast sandwich, some Koulourakia, couple cookies and a loaf of sourdough. Oh, how I love thee, Anthos! Let me count the ways! Birthday brunch and a surprise visit to Anthos.....and what a wonderful surprise it was! This is a bit out of the way for us City dwellers, but it was absolutely worth the trip. From the moment we walked in, the lively atmosphere and energy of the place grabbed us. Such a great vibe, with the owners doing their thing and the staff bustling around making everything happen. We started with the trio of dips: hummus, feta, and tzatziki, served with olives and their delicious pita. Then came the spanakopita, which is definitely shareable, especially with a little salad on the side. And because every good brunch needs something sweet, we ordered the loukoumades. Savory + sweet = the perfect combination! Everything was just good!.......fresh, flavorful, satisfying, and exactly what you want when you're out celebrating. And of course, we couldn't leave empty-handed. We took home a loaf of raisin sourdough, which may have been the best decision of the day. Since I wrote that original review I have been back to Anthos so many times. We're generally there once or twice a week. My go-to items are the horiatiki, the spicy feta danish, kolouri as a dipper-into-literally-anything, dakos, Greek island bowl, their cold brew, a Greek mountain tea. But really I stopped back on Yelp to say, "don't sleep on the specials!" I had a bowl of briam this week that was amazing. Their bouyourdi, youvetsi, and Greek chicken and potatoes are all so good too. I've never had anything at Anthos that was less than perfect and soul-satisfying. The people who own this place and the folks who work for them are the nicest, friendliest around. They make you feel well taken care of and appreciated as a customer. I am so happy and appreciative to have Anthos nearby. read more

It has a great atmosphere, the service was kind and quick. The pastries were flavorful and delicious. I ordered the fig danish and a pumpkin ice cap. All very good. The pumpkin ice cap was so good I ended up getting a second. The fig danish was so good. I do wish they had the signs out right way with the pastry because I did also order an apricot danish that I thought had coffee crumbles on top but it was hazelnut. I am allergic to most tree nuts and when I bit into it I panicked thinking it was walnuts which I am allergic to. I stopped eating it and gave it to my friend to eat to play safe, when I went to order my second cappuccino they had put the signs out stating it was hazelnut nuts..... I know I could have asked but I get in a hurry and forgot to ask sometimes especially when I'm in new places. That is why I am not giving a low review. Because it was also my fault for not asking. What a lovely cafe and bakery to stop by! Delicious Greek flavors and options, with a staff that's super friendly and a high energy space. It gets rlly crowded and popular here for good reason, so def stick it out and tables move fast, worth the wait! The bread here is just incredible, but the food options are amazing across the board. The roasted eggplant sandwich was the best I ever had, and the hummus was absolutely perfect. They have bakery shelves full of baked goods, desserts, and breads to try! To order, you stand at the counter to place your order and then take a seat for them to deliver your order to you! When my group arrived, there was a long line and many of the tables were taken. My group tried the dip sampler and everything was absolutely delicious. I had the Tsoureki French Toast that was so light yet decadent and complex with flavors. I also got the Loukoumades, Greek donuts. I wish I tried these in Greece and didn't get a chance. They were soft yet crispy. One member of the group got the quiche, which was thick and PACKED with flavor. Absolutely delicious. Another friend got a Croque Madame, which wasn't super special. Anthos is so worth the 30 min drive from the city! I went late morning on a Saturday and it was busy, but we didn't have a problem getting a table. We sat on the back patio which was lovely and quiet. The food came out pretty fast considering how busy it was! The coffee took the longest because the espresso machine had broken down after we ordered, but they fixed it; it was worth the wait! I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon and avocado and my mind was blown. The brioche bun was so buttery and fresh. I ate it so fast. My friend got the avocado toast and loved it, she said the sourdough was great! We both got pumpkin spice Freddo cappuccinos and loved them; not too sweet, perfectly balanced syrup to coffee ratio! We also got some pastries to go: almond croissant, ginger molasses cookie, chocolate chip walnut cookie, baklava. All were so delicious! Loved Anthos! Tried it for breakfast over the weekend and it did not disappoint. Brought my almost 2 year old son with me and they had high chairs available as well. I got the avocado toast and added eggs and ordered him the kids scrambled eggs and added cheese. Absolutely delicious! He devoured all of it and wanted more. All of their breads and pastries look to die for, I have a nut allergy so I couldn't indulge. The staff was awesome about my allergy and notified the kitchen. My daughter is staunch on her anti- brunch take, so I've only ordered delivery from Anthos... up until now! I had a bit of kiddo-free time, so I decided to trek over to this adorable little place for a bit of "me time". When I arrived, it was super busy! The staff was wonderful, and didn't bat an eyelash about making sure that everyone was taken care of quickly and immaculately. I got a brioche to go, but was starving so I snuck a few bites in while waiting on my sandwich. This was probably my downfall. The sandwich and side of potatoes were gigantic! The sandwich had a heavy amount of eggs and two slices of bacon. I also opted to add avocado. While tasty, I am definitely used to a harder bread being used. The bun was very soft and fluffy, and surprisingly held up pretty well to the heft of the eggs. It was a bit messy, but didn't get soggy as would be expected. The lemony potatoes were delicious. I could have just ordered those and been happy. My caffe freddo was so delicious! I would go back just for one of those. All in all, I'm pretty sure my kid is going to be pretty mad at me when I make her come to brunch with me here soon... read more

My friend got the French toast which was so soft and sweet with something that tasted like a date syrup, pistachios, and cherries. Also, the best French toast I have ever had. It took about 25 minutes on a Sunday morning to be served after ordering. To top it all of that, the personalities of the workers are fantastic - such sweet and kind people!!! Wonderful little spot with a vibrant, bustling energy. If you go at peak lunchtime, they'll be a long line. I had the Greek salad and it was amazing! For a starter I shared the Tzatziki and Hummus with my friend and they were excellent. All of the ingredients were very fresh and clean. The pita and bread is so fresh and soft. My only issue was not being from the area, parking is a hassle. They are situated on a corner that's incredibly busy with cars and a train track. It felt unsafe and as if there should be a crossing guard. If you park across the street and train track, there's no crosswalk that is a direct shot to Anthos. That is the only reason I would not go as often. read more

Such a great spot!! Pittsburgh needs more places like this - every single thing we tried was delicious, and there was so much more we wanted to get. From pastries to sandwiches to entrees, I really don't think you could go wrong with anything here. I do really need to recommend their eggs benedict though, which I think may have been one of the best eggs bennys I've ever had - their thyme hollandaise combined with the sautéed mushrooms, crispy prosciutto, and delicious bread was so rich (in a good way) and flavorful! I also tried their feta pie, which was really light and flavorful as well and another item I'd recommend trying! It gets busy (as it should!) but the line moves fast and the food comes out quickly. One thing to be aware of is that you order your food at the counter and then look for a table - it's a small space, so you may need to wait a bit for a table to clear up if you go during peak hours! One thing I realized after we ate is that they had additional seating out back, so that could be an option if it's a nice day. read more

Wow! what an amazing cafe. Full disclosure, I first came here for a yelp elite event but I was so blown away I wanted to make a regular review so others can see how great this place is. The owners and staff of this cafe were incredible and clearly love what they do. I spoke with them a bit and they moved here from Greece 4 years ago and opened this adorable cafe 2 years ago. I can't believe I haven't heard of it before, and I have been recommending it to many since! The cafe itself is beautiful, clean, and welcoming. I felt like I was transported to Greece a bit! There are many tables to sit at, and I was pleased to see how busy they were on a Thursday a little before lunch. I tried a coffee and greek bagel. The owner made the coffee for me custom based on my sweetness preference, and it was so good. Somewhat like the whipped coffee trend that was popular a few years ago. I went with the iced version but I'm sure the hot would have been great too. It was very tasty. The bagel (skinny with sesame seeds) is classic greek. It was crunchy and flavorful and delicious. I am sure it would be great as a sandwich as well. Lastly, the owner was kind enough to let me try one of their cookies as well. I went with the chocolate chip with walnuts and WOW. that may have been one of the best cookies I've ever had. I didn't have any snadwhiches but they looked great and I will definitely be trying them next time. Totally worth the 27-minute drive. We showed up on a busy Saturday and even though it was packed, we only waited about 10 minutes for a table, which was a nice surprise. The coffee was seriously good. The freddo espresso and cappuccinos were both great, and if you're into sweet drinks, definitely try the caramel frappe--it was awesome. I had the raspberry almond pastry and split the avocado toast with egg with my wife. Both were delicious. The pastry was fresh and soft, and the avo toast had the perfect texture--not mushy at all. We also shared the loukoumodes and loved them. Everything we tried was amazing. We've also been on the hunt for good Greek honey since we got back from Greece and found some authentic jars made in Crete to take home with us!
