When my food came, the eggs were completely hard. The meat wasn't the quality I prefer--it reminded me more of lunch meat--but I understand that's a matter of personal preference. I knew I probably wasn't going to eat the meat, and I wasn't asking for anything to be done about that. I figured I would just eat my eggs and potatoes, but the eggs were too well done for me to eat. It took a little while before I was able to get the waitress's attention to let her know. She said, "Oh, so you wanted them over medium." Maybe that's what I should have said when ordering, but I had tried to explain exactly how I wanted them because I don't like the whites runny. I had also ordered a quesadilla to go, so at that point I decided to forget about the breakfast and just eat my quesadilla instead. Our bill was around $80, and when the check came there was no adjustment for the eggs. I asked the waitress if an adjustment could be made, and she said she would have to ask. I asked if the owner could just come out so I could speak with her myself. The owner came out and immediately said, "I can't give you any free food." That caught me completely off guard because I wasn't asking for free food. We had an $80 bill that I fully expected to pay. Then she said she couldn't give me a free quesadilla. Again, I never asked for a free quesadilla. I ordered it and expected to pay for it. I was simply asking for an adjustment for the eggs that I couldn't eat. I told her that I come here all the time, and she basically shrugged her shoulders like, "So what?" That really bothered me. When I said the breakfast wasn't good, she told me there was nothing wrong with the meat. I explained that while I didn't care for the quality of the meat, that wasn't what I was asking to have adjusted. My issue was the eggs. She eventually said she could take the eggs off the bill--which was all I had been asking about in the first place. By then, I had already paid and was ready to leave. And honestly, the food was never really the reason I kept coming back. Kathy, the older waitress, was. She has always given us warm, friendly service and made us feel welcome. We didn't have Kathy today because we chose to sit at the counter, but as we were leaving, she still took the time to apologize to us for what happened. I appreciated that, especially because the situation wasn't hers to apologize for. Food can be cooked wrong. Orders can get messed up. Those things happen. What I couldn't get past was being approached as though I was trying to get something for free when I never asked for anything free. After being a returning customer and spending $80 on our meal, the way the situation was handled--especially the shrug when I said I come there often--was enough for me. Anyway, I have to say that these were the best eggs Benedict I have ever eaten anywhere! I wish I had taken a picture of my plate before I dug in but I don't think I have ever seen such nicely cooked eggs and they were delicious! The hollandaise sauce and seasoning was perfect and needed no additional salt or pepper. To add to the great flavors were their home fries which were small 1/2 inch cut potatoes perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the seasoning was unbelievable! We were guessing a little bit of paprika on the light salt. My girlfriend kept raving about the fries but she also enjoyed her breakfast burrito though she could only finish one of the two that came with the meal. I was stuffed too and ate all my fries just because they were so good. Our two meals and a coffee came up to $36. There was some nice vocal jazz music playing in the background and the waiter who just happened to be from Italy was super.
