Once again confirmed that this is one of the best restaurants in the burgh. Added to the must have list is the morcilla montadito and the soft shell crab(if available). So in summary my full go to list....oxtail montadito, morcilla montadito, croquettes, ribs, soft shell crab, the salad that's available and the gazpacho(if ever back in the menu).
This is a pretty chill spot. They don't have a set tasting menu per se but they will divide the dishes in half (price too) so you can taste different ones. It's small and intimate and a place where you can feel comfortable eating alone. My server, Rob, was very knowledgeable of the menu.
We came for an early dinner on a Saturday to celebrate a special occasion. There was some confusion about the reservation, but they were able to accommodate us at a table where it felt like we were too far away from each other to talk, given how noisy the restaurant was. The food and service were okay. Most of the dishes are carbs and/or animal protein; the vegetable options appear to be beets (with goat cheese), tomato and cucumber salad (with watery goat cheese), and stuffed mushrooms. The harissa ribs were good with the labneh, but the scallops were weirdly tangy. My favorite dish was definitely the croquettes, which are warm and creamy and come as a pair. We got the goat cheese flan for dessert. The mocktail was too small for $6, but the white sangria was good. We paid $140 (with tip) for two people, but I can't say that I enjoyed our visit, due to the noise level and the lights being so low my partner struggled to cut his ribs off the bone. Paid street parking.
i'm glad I finally was able to get here. They did a great job for my gluten-free allergy of taking the menu and marking up what I could and what I couldn't eat and what could be modified. I'd love when they do this. It makes it so much simpler ordering from the menu. From the coach check to the bartender to the server that we had, the staff was unbelievable, super kind and gracious, and answered a ton of our questions And the food was simply amazing. In fact it was so good. I couldn't stop eating and forgot to take a picture. Everything we eat, we kept saying oh no that's my favorite. Oh no that's my favorite. Oh no, that's my favorite. We had the fried artichokes they were amazing., the Boquerones, Beef Tartare, and the smoked beef short rib. excellent meal and service and i cant wait to get there again.
This is one of the best restaurants in pittsburgh, hands down! The food is so flavorful and so unique. There is truly not one bad dish. I highly recommend going here and ordering a few small plates so that you can sample everything.. My favorite dishes are the oxtail, fried artichoke, and the harissa pork ribs. highly encourage making a reservation, as this place is small and very popular. Its a great place for a late night dinner, girls night, or date night
This was a great date night place. Nice interiors with soft lighting. Even though the size of the restaurant is small and cozy, I didn't feel it was cramped as some other places can really pack in the seating. We were there in the evening on a weekend and the the noise well wasn't bad; it was easy to carry on conversations. We decided to do tapas and just have small plates to share. They recommended we get 5-6 dishes but we went with 4 and found that to be just right with room left for dessert. We did have the oxtail, which was good, but I wouldn't call it incredible. I think I enjoyed some of the other dishes more: the oyster mushrooms were great and the shrimp was fabulous. Also had the white anchovies, which was fine. For dessert, we had Churros, which is something I normally wouldn't have but I was pleasantly surprised and was happy with semi-sweet and not too heavy a dessert option. Food came at a good pace! They gave us time to enjoy the food - it wasn't too slow and we weren't rushed. Everything was great! Happy to go back!
This place has now become one of my favorite spots in Pittsburgh. Our server Greta was incredible and gave us an amazing recommendation for a bottle of wine. All of the food was amazing specifically the fried artichokes, baby back ribs and the oxtail. I will definitely be back again!!
Arrived at 5, just as they opened. I always make a reservation because the nightlife food scene is usually busy in Pittsburgh. No matter the day. We were seated right away and offered drinks right away. They had my favorite sparkling water brand. The ambience was very romantic but open, so there's not private booths, just an open dining room. The bar was on the side and the setting was intimate but you could into the kitchen. The food was sooooo good. I felt relieved to finally find another Pittsburgh spot that was worth the price. It's a little pricey but I highly recommend lots of small plates. We didnt order an entree but wanted to try the trout. Must get: mussel bites, oxtail bites, the duck and the ribs. So the duck and ribs were not as temperature hot as I expected but they were still delicious. The oxtail was perfect... bravo!!! Lastly, our server suggested a delicious mezcal cocktail that resembled an old fashioned but was a little sweeter and smoker. Delicious!! Highly recommend and we will be back.

Wow! Thoroughly impressed with our dinner at Morcilla. I was first shocked by their ability to seat us immediately on a Friday night at 7pm. It is pretty small and dim inside and can get quite loud when busy. Otherwise, ambiance is intimate and well decorated. The wait staff was very attentive, filling our waters and bringing clean plates often. Our server gave us great recommendations, and we ended up trying: -oxtail: amazing. Must try. -octopus: 2nd favorite. Served with the most flavorful hummus. -pork ribs: also fantastic. Again accompanied with a flavorful sauce. -cod cheeks: my least favorite, but still flavorful and cooked perfectly Would definitely visit again!
We went to dinner at Morcilla yesterday and I'll admit I was a little nervous since I went to Spain for two weeks last fall and wasn't sure how the food at Morcilla would compare post trip. Thankfully my worries were unfounded because everything we had was delicious! The inside is fairly small and dimly lit, especially towards the back of the restaurant. There is a small bar to sit at. All the tables are for 2 or 4 people and the website says to contact them if you want to make a reservation for more than 4 people so keep that in mind. Our server thought we were done and ready to move onto dessert but we loved the oxtail and the pork ribs so much that we had to order another round of both. We finished the meal with all three desserts they offered and while they were all good, my favorite was the airy, floral, and lightly sweet rhubarb sorbet! The staff was pretty attentive and they gave us fresh silverware and plates fairly often which was very nice. The only thing I didn't love was that they asked me if I wanted still or sparkling water in the beginning of the meal and when I said still, they didn't notate that there was a charge on it. It's $6 a bottle and they gave us three bottles so if you want water and not have to pay for it, I would ask for tap water.

All I can say is wow! This was our first time here and we were blown away. The vibes were cozy with dim lighting and exposed brick. Our waitress was super cool and helpful. We got the oxtail and mussels to start and they set the tone for the rest of the night. We shared the duck and trout -- both were unbelievable. Finished up with dessert and got the flan which may have been the best dessert I've had in recent memory. If you haven't been here, do yourself a favor and get a reservation. One of the most flavor packed, delicious meals in the city.
We stopped her for a birthday get together. The ambiance is very cool. It has an open kitchen which is cool. The servers were great and very knowledgeable. The salad was very good. Different and very flavorful. I would get this again for sure. The fried artichokes were pretty good as well. The ribs were described as something they would come back for over and over and the same with the oxtail. Both packed with flavor and melts in your mouth. We all had a great experience and would come back time and time again with no complaints. read more

Fantastic tapas place. The warm bread was such a good start and very soft. The baby back ribs, croquettes, and oxtail were my favorites. I especially liked the baguette the oxtail came with--gave it a nice crisp. The asparagus sauce was fine, and the octopus was a bit tough. The churros were an amazing dessert--crispy, and the chocolate sauce was not too sweet. We walked in Friday ~8 PM and waited ~20 minutes at the bar, where we got a good sangria. read more
I came here with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day, and it was one of the best experiences we've ever had in a restaurant. Our server, Rachel, was very kind and attentive, checking on us to make sure we enjoyed each dish and replacing plates and silverware a few times. The restaurant has a very romantic vibe with low lights, and simple beautiful decor. You can also see into the kitchen, and our table had a great view. It was very cool to be able to see all the food being prepared! Now the food.... Oh my goodness. Everything was absolutely incredible. We got a few of the snacks, small plates, and finished with dessert. My boyfriend and I kept trying to pick out which dish was our favorite, but it was almost impossible. Two of our highlights were the scallop crudo (my pick) and the oyster mushrooms (his pick), but we would definitely highly recommend everything that we ordered! I wish I could eat here every day. This place is awesome. It has become one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. read more

A Must-Dine in Pittsburgh! My husband and I finally snagged a reservation at Morcilla after hearing rave reviews--and it absolutely lived up to the hype! We started with the oxtail and fried artichokes from the snacks menu--both were incredible. Then came the ribs: phenomenal. But the standout for me was the large plate of chicken and rice--absolutely divine. Every dish was bursting with flavor and executed with thoughtfulness and precision. We ended on a sweet note with the churros, which did not disappoint. The vibe? Low lighting (if that matters to you)--but it adds to the romantic mood. Your eyes adjust. It's very hip, very trendy, and just cool. I had a non-alcoholic pineapple drink (last on the drink menu), and it was so good I ordered a second. The whole experience felt almost spiritual--each bite better than the last. As someone who's binged every season of The Bear, I could tell this place runs on heart, hustle, and serious culinary skill. Our server was warm and attentive, and the whole team worked together seamlessly. Morcilla is a gem. Just wow. read more

Definitely a top 10 restaurant in Pittsburgh. Wonderful Spanish tapas menu that rotates dishes based on seasonality and popularity. I haven't had a bad dish yet but some of the snack all stars are: Oxtail Montadito (braised oxtail, caramelized onion, mahón cheese, baguette), Fried Artichokes (anchovy aioli, burnt lemon), Gildas (wild caught anchovy, marinated manzanilla olive, guindilla, baguette), and of course their Jamón Serrano. As for the small plates, a few of my favorites are Beef Tartare (preparation changes seasonally, currently its pickled ramps, horseradish, egg yolk, potato chips), Scallop Crudo (also changes prep, currently its ajo blanco, ramp salsa verde, crispy capers, mint). They also are currently serving Crispy Soft-Shell Crab (amazing). As for the large plates, the best chicken and rice dish you'll ever have is Arroz Con Pitu De Caleya (half roasted chicken, cider, calasparra rice, herbs...including dill which is such a good flavor pop). If you're not stuffed from dinner like I normally am, try the Churros with chocolate-hazelnut fondue. The cocktails are typical Spanish style with a focus on sangria and Gin & Tonics. However, the bartenders are super creative and they have a fantastic Gin (and other liquor) selection and are willing to go off menu. The ambiance is really cool with the partially open kitchen, the ham hocks curing from the ceiling, and typical Spanish tapas style decor. read more
Truly a marvelous dining experience - it's hard to put into words how lovely Morcilla is across all categories. I visited last summer for a friend's birthday and then again for my birthday last week with my husband, and on both occasions I loved everything I ate and drank. Their menu is structured to encourage multiple small plates to make up a larger meal, and the portions are quite generous, imo! It's so much fun to try out lots of delicious bites throughout the evening, and the servers/kitchen staff ensure that things are paced perfectly so that dishes arrive in a well-conceived order. The drinks are fantastic, too! As far as cocktails go, I've tried the spritz and the dry vermouth cocktail, both were excellent and perfectly crafted. They have a great wine selection, too! A few standout dishes in my two visits have been the oxtail bites, the shrimp on baguette, the gildas on baguette, roasted honeynut squash, baby back ribs, and the goat rodeo cheese plate. The charcuterie is excellent, too! I think this ranks in my top 5 restaurants in Pittsburgh after two truly wonderful and inventive meals. I'd like to be cool enough to saunter into the bar and have a drink one of these days, but ultimately, this place is too (rightfully) popular for a casual drop-in. This meal absolutely takes it home for my best meal of 2024. Morcilla sets the bar so high. Friendly service, outstanding unique cuisine, in a comfortably warm atmosphere. It's the full package. The sangria was delicious, and fair warning dangerous. I had 2 glasses and was feeling it! My favorite bites of the evening would be the Mussels en Escabeche, the Duck Confit, Oxtail, and the Short Rib large plate. This is a great spot for the adventurous eater. I absolutely loved trying these dishes that were new to my palate. And I am just such a sucker for tapas and shareable plates. I love being able to try as much as possible when the menu is THIS good. read more

There was a group of 6 of us that went & we had a great time! Super cute inside and the food was really good. We ended up getting 12 small plates and an order of churros for dessert and it came to about $55 each before tip. Would recommend for a fun new experience & yummy food! read more

Really enjoyed the food-- we hadn't had authentic Spanish food before. The server was great at helping us understand how many items we needed from each part of the menu. Would come back just for the fried artichokes! Enjoyed the tartare-- though the horseradish is strong!! Love the atmosphere but the pictures came out red because of the dark lighting! Some minuses: several dishes were quite salty, though our companions who have dined here before thought they were saltier than usual. It's VERY dark and rather loud, which does it make fun, but a little difficult to read the menu and hear. The bread portion was small for the price and that many items really needed the bread to balance the dishes. read more
A delightful tapas experience! The restaurant was buzzing, even on a Tuesday night. I went with a couple friends for a birthday outing, and we had a fantastic time. We shared 6 tapas amongst 3 people, which was the perfect amount. We also each got wine. I was in the midst of dry January, so I tried a NA sparkling rose that was delightful!! My friends all enjoyed their wine as well. I would recommend it for a fun girls night out or a romantic dinner for two. The server gave excellent recommendations, like the oxtail. We ended the evening with churros and flan-- who could ask for anything more!? read more

Morcilla is a truly special place and delivers a Spanish cuisine experience on par with what is found in restaurants in Spain. After having gone here a few years back, it still is my personal favorite Spanish restaurant in the world outside of Spain, beating restaurants in various major cities in North and South America. Pittsburgh is known to punch above its weight in the culinary arena and this is a great example of that. read more
Morcilla has been on my must try list and it did not disappoint!!! First of all, the costumer service was unreal. I called day of to see if they accept walk ins and the manager so kindly took my name and number and said she'd keep an eye out for open tables or open bar stools around the time I wanted to go to. SO KIND for a busy restaurant to do that... very rare an employee would go out of their way to help someone come in. Okay now vibes were so great. Dim lighting and cozy inside, and such a great bar vibe. I love sharing tapas for dinner and Morcilla had such amazing and soo many different options- it was literally so hard to choose. Everything we ate was soooo delicious. The warm bread and herby olive oil seems basic but this classic table shareable was still so good. I could probably drink the herby olive oil and it was also nice to have the bread to dip into the other sauces from the other dishes. The oxtail with caramelized onions was absolutely unreal. The meat was so tender and the flavors were literally immaculate. I could eat 10 of those. Fried artichokes were good and the grilled lemon taste was very present which i appreciated! The asparagus was also soo delicious and the sauce was so flavor and good to dip the bread in with too. Finally, the octopus was so crispy on the outside and sooo tender in the inside. My favorite item by far was the oxtail and it's definite MUST TRY!!! can't wait to go back! read more

Morcilla is a really good place with tasty and imaginative flavor pairings. Cozy interior and laid back environment. Drinks were creative and all good-the Suntory Whiskey and red sangria in particular. Food-wise, the crab and salt cad croquettes, braised oxtail, oyster mushrooms, fried sunchokes, octopus, duck confit were all excellent, while the baby back pork ribs were awesome! read more

Spanish Tapas restaurants in Pittsburgh are so rare, so Morcilla was on my list for such a long time. I'm so glad I finally went -- it was such a fun dining experience :) The tapas here are really interesting and not the traditional ones you see typically. We ordered the Croquetas de Congrejo y Bacalao, Oxtail Montadito, and Bistec a la Plancha. All were really flavorful and unlike anything we'd tried before. The snack plates are all pretty small (2-3 bites each), but the Bistec (steak dish) was a pretty big portion for a small plate, which was a pleasant surprise. Since the portions are generally small I'd recommend ordering more dishes to share. The ambiance inside is really cool -- they have dried meats hanging from the ceiling and it's dimly lit so it feels really intimate and romantic. Service here is exceptional and professional. Would definitely come back. Highly recommend if you're looking for a restaurant with unique and flavorful tapas! read more

I never do this with popular restaurants but could not get a reservation, so I walked in right at 5pm. Sat at the bar which was great! We started with the bread and herbed aioli and a carafe of red wine sangria. If you like really sweet sangria don't get this one. I found it good but mildly dry. Great for sipping with tapas. I then ordered the oxtail montadito. OMG the oxtail melted in my mouth. It was so delicious it left me wanting more. My husband went for the boquerones and loved them. We then ordered the Goat rodeo dairy cheeses and charcuterie. All the cheeses were tasty with glazed pecans that were to die for. Also had a side of honey. The charcuterie came with jamon serrano, harissa salami, ramp salami and morcilla. I will admit I don't like morcilla but this was a salami that I ate. It paired well with cheeses and honey. My favorite was the goat cheese with strawberry preserves. My husband ordered pulpo and I just don't eat octopus but the garnish was delectable. For dessert we couldn't decide on what to get so we got 2. The churros were fried perfectly and not too greasy. Wasn't a big fan of the chocolate that you dipped it in. The flan on the other hand was so different. Made with goat cheese and sprinkled with candied pecans, we ate it all!!! The service was impeccable, bathrooms clean and overall a great place. Will be back if we are ever in the area again. read more

Great! Great service and great food. We started with the artichokes and olive and anchovy on bread. The olive oil was fantastic! We continued with octopus and tartare. Both were great. Topped off the meal with the goat cheese flan, minus the pecans. read more
Love the vibes here. Lit just perfectly inside. Service is first class every time. Food always hits. Tapas style but my families favorite is the half roasted chicken with rice. Takes about 45 minutes so if you want to get it don't wait to order. Order it first with your drinks. Everything else I've ever had here always has so much flavor. Even if I wasn't a fan of something it wasn't bc it wasn't tasty. Also a big fan of the duck, skirt steak. Fav small plate is ox tail and favorite app is the bread with a rosemary dipping sauce. read more

Great meal. We hadn't been here in over seven years since before the flood. Just dropped off our radar after it was closed for a long while. We shared the Arroz Con Pitu De Caleya platter which was a good amount of food and absolutely delicious. Crispy skin on the chicken and the rice is cooked in a cider. Just all around really flavorful dish. The Fried Artichokes were delicious especially with some of the charred lemon squeezed on top. And we also had the chorizo and some Nice warm crispy bread with olive oil. We shared a pitcher of the sangria as well. Topped it all off with some delicious churros and chocolate. Very friendly wait staff and since it was our anniversary she gave us each a free glass of sherry to cap off the meal. read more

Yes, we have a non-alcoholic Sparkling Riesling and also a non-alcoholic IPA at this time.

Sadly no they don't have paella on their menu
Are there gluten free options?
I am gluten free and had no issue whatsoever. Mostly everything on the menu is naturally gluten free and the majority of the ones that aren't can be modified to be gluten free. You just can't eat the churros, which is sad. If you're celiac and…
