I went here briefly off of a friends suggestion. The service was really good he answered all my questions and heated up my empanada for me. I got one of the specials with pork belly and balsamic apples. It was delicious will definitely back in the summer while walking around lawrenceville.

Mi Empanada is a local business that makes and sells Argentinian empanadas, sandwiches, and sides. The empanadas come in flavors such as beef, chicken, lamb, egg-cheddar, spinach, apple-walnut, and several others. The sandwiches come in several flavors such as chorizo, steak, chicken, and eggplant. Sides include chili, rice, and salad. In addition, Mi Empanada locally sources some pastries such as tres leches and flan. At the 2025 Pittsburgh Taco Festival, I bought one lamb empanada, a flavor that I had not previously tried anywhere, for several dollars. The empanada was a large size, and the crust and meat tasted good.

I was glad to see Mi Empanada at the 2025 Pittsburgh Taco Festival. I couldn't decide between their spinach and butternut squash empanadas, so I got one of each. Both were delicious. If I had to pick one, I would say that the one with butternut squash had a slight edge. I liked the creamy texture and slightly sweet filling. Both were great, though, and paired nicely.

Wow we finally tried this place and I am so glad we did! We got a sampling of flavors to try later that day at home. However we did ask for the bacon egg and cheese one heated up and it was so good for a breakfast option! Our favorite was the beef brisket, but the chicken, beef, and buffalo chicken were good as well. The crusts are excellent, and I really liked all the sauce options (we tried both chimis, the spicy, and the carrot hot sauce). Everything was tasty and heated up really well in our air fryer. We also got an apple dessert one which was pretty good too, but I preferred the savory options. We will definitely be back!

It might be tiny, but it's brimming with flavor and character. This is a hidden gem! We went for a late lunch and brought home more for dinner! The brisket, chicken, and black bean empanada are shown. My favorite was the brisket. Delicious!!! Light, crispy, excellent reheated in an airfryer. Everyone there is super friendly and helpful choosing food. It's currently smallish, seats 4, but they are putting outdoor seating so get out there and be sure you're hungry!

Perfect place to grab a quick bite in Lawrenceville! The sauces pair very well and they have amazing vegetarian options as well. The sweet potato black bean empanada... **chef's kiss! Thank you for incorporating vegetarian options in your menu! There are so few options in Lville. 4 stars just because it's so hard to wrap my head around the prices. You need to spend quite a bit to get full here!

If I had to pick my favorite small business in Pittsburgh, this would be it. While it looks small from the outside, this place truly has so many options for empanadas once you step inside. It seems like each month there are new flavors to try. The only downside as that the prices of the empanadas have been going up since I first started going two years ago, but I'm hopeful that as more people discover this spot the fare will become more affordable. If you are coming to try, then plan for carry-out. Would recommend the classic beef empanada as well as the onion and cheese.

Expensive empanadas. I am coming from New York City that has a much larger Hispanic population so selling empanadas for five dollars would be crazy. And even doing it here to me is still kind of crazy. But I guess when there's less options available, you get to do what you want. empanada was ok, I got the buffalo chicken and the cheese and onions. I would suggest not getting the cheese and onions. The onions were very slimy and the cheese wasn't that great either. the buffalo chicken was decent tho. I probably would not return for an empanada, I don't think they are worth the price. Nor is the taste that great. I do understand that they have a lot of fans though so try it for yourself if you insist.

I wanted to be excited about this place - funky Lawrenceville shop with a semi-novelty food item, pretty display/layout inside. Indeed, they sell many different empanada flavors (mostly meat but also some vegetarian). You can check out the entire array when you walk inside and it does make for some mouth-watering lunch shopping. But I was just underwhelmed by the empanadas themselves. I tried the chicken flavor and butternut squash flavor on two different days. Both were very doughy (can't go wrong there) and also pretty bland. The chicken one literally had no flavor whatsoever; the squash one had a bit of semi-sweet filling, but again mostly dough. Both times, I was left feeling like I had eaten a big fluffy biscuit, so a tasty snack but not really a proper lunch. You can buy sauces in small plastic containers for $1 each but this feels like a roundabout way to add flavor to something. The empanadas are already $5 each, so I'd expect them to come with more flavor rather than having to pay more just to add flavor via the sauce. I'd recommend that they bake some of the sauce flavor into the empanadas themselves. My favorite perk was the $7 deals for two of yesterday's empanadas. More reasonable that the $5 price and they heat up very quickly in the toaster oven.

Really delightful empanadas shop with great food. We tried their "take and bake" option with great success. There are many empanadas to choose from, including several vegetarian options. If you order ahead, the pickup is quick and friendly. I absolutely recommend the sauces, especially the traditional chimichurri.

    Kelli C.

Absolutely love all the different flavors and variety of options! From traditional empanadas to more unique combos, they have it all. The chimichurri dipping sauce on the side is incredible too!

This place in Lawrenceville has a great selection of homemade empanadas! I love that they press their own and their empanadas have " Mi Empanada " printed on the side of them. They have a lot of different types, from buffalo chicken to vegan ones. I love that they have vegan options but I didn't love the vegan spinach one. The chicken one I got was really good though. I like how they sell frozen ones in store too.

I tried the lamb empanada and it was so good! This was my first empanada experience, let's just say I will be coming back for more! They even toasted it so we could have it hot. There were limited seating inside, but we managed to fit three by the bar top. The staff was friendly and helpful. This is great for a snack or as a meal. Can't wait to try some of the other empanadas!

I loved the sticker labels telling you what empanada was what. Cute little cartoon characters that added a fun extra touch. No sauces were needed really except for the beef empanada. Most of them include cheese or sauce that was plenty. Eating there, there were no intensely ld. Which is fine for eating (you can pick up an empanada, but it didn't work well with the garlic or chimichurri sauce. I highly recommend trying the empanadas whether you eat there or get them to go.

While we were definitely feeling a bit nostalgic for the Gaucho of the past (RIP Smallman Street era), we were willing to give this new-to-us downtown location a fair shot... and it delivered. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive...present without being too present, which honestly deserves its own award. We went with two sandwiches: the carne and the pescado, and upgraded one with the papas, because obviously. Both were delicious and did exactly what we needed them to do: make us stop thinking about ordering more food (for a few minutes, at least). But let's be real, the house-made chimichurris are the main event. The Ajo? Addictive. The Cebolla? My personal favorite. The Pimentón? Tangy and doing the most (in a good way). And the classic chimichurri continues to quietly carry the entire operation like the MVP it is. Washed it all down with some local beers and called it what it was: a perfect night bite with just enough nostalgia to keep things interesting.

Since 2021, my husband and I have eaten here off and on, and all of our meals have been excellent. The employees promptly and courteously serve us. Here are my ratings for the menu items that we ate: Tortilla chips with queso and guacamole - 4.5 stars - The tortilla chips had a good flavor. The queso tasted extremely cheesy. The guacamole was very freshly made. Beef empanada - 4.5 stars - The fried-dough exterior was perfectly crispy, and the beef filling was savory. I particularly enjoyed the green sauce on the side. Seafood empanada - 3.5 stars - This fried cornmeal pastry was filled with tilapia, shrimp, and vegetables. It was a large size, and the flavors were alright. On the side was guasacaca, a tangy Venezuelan sauce that is made from avocados, green peppers, garlic, cilantro, lime juice, and mayonnaise. Chicken quesadilla - 4 stars - A flour tortilla was filled with shredded chicken, cheese, onions, and peppers. The ingredients were very fresh, but the quesadilla tasted slightly plain even with the sides of guacamole and sour cream, so I dipped it in queso. Veggie quesadilla - 5 stars - A flour tortilla was stuffed with yellow cheese, green peppers, and onions. On the side were pico de gallo, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream.
