Great local spot for a quick tasty bite, lots of flavors to choose from, easy gluten free choices, arepas and bowls, great sauces, slaw, rice and beans. Staff were friendly and food prepared quickly. Simple counter to sit and eat. Clean and simple. I wish they had paper bowls instead of plastic.
I picked up my food but it was very good and the brisket was super good. I would def order from here again. The service was nice and the shop is cute!!
Honestly way better than I expected, food comes out quick, meat is grilled deliciously, good range of options. If you are a meat lover, you will love this place. The fried arepas are messy but so so good and the bowls are large too. Very close to my campus so I'll def be a frequent visitor. The meat really is the star of the show here. I went here on a Tuesday afternoon with a friend. We ordered our food at the iPad and sat down at a table while we waited for them to call our names. Our food came out pretty quickly and we were able to dig in. The meat in my friend's bowl and in my arepa was tender and flavorful. I also really enjoyed the sweet plantains as well as the tres leches cake. The inside, while not super big with limited seating, was well lit with natural light and had cute details.
Cute little spot to have a quick lunch! I went for there empanadas and it was so good! Lots of beef filling and the crust seem like it was made out of mash potatoes with I throughly enjoyed! The service was good.
I love Colombian food and todays experience was a bit disappointing. I ordered the paisa bowl and a vegetarian arepa and both were just okay. The best part of the paisa bowl was the meat - really flavorful and the chicharrones were crispy and salty. The beans were good too. I wish there were a few more plantains in the bowl but overall this was satisfying. The arepa was so disappointing and needed much more salt. The slice of cheese included was not great - I expected shredded mozzarella and this wasn't the right texture to go along with the rest of the fillings. The rice and beans inside the arepa lacked sazón and I wish overall there was more avocado and plantains inside. I expected more and I'm not sure I'd go back unless I tried something completely different.
Upon opening, I thought my order got messed up because the air immediately filled with a fishy smell. I soon realized why. The "chicken" thigh closely resembled the canned cat food I feed my neighbors cats. Thank god I didn't ask for any sauces because I'm pretty sure my order contained over the recommended daily salt intake. Hm... Maybe I was mistakenly given canned cat food instead? Either way, I was unable to finish. The doesn't look at all like the image displayed on the menu - nicely grilled chicken served with sauted green peppers? Disappointed to be served this with such raving reviews. Hopefully the other menu items are at a higher standard. Unfortunately, I won't find out since I won't be returning.

I ordered 2 different arepas which was more than enough food, but just 1 might not have been enough for dinner. My favorite of the arepas was the choripollo. The meat was so tender and flavorful and the toppings complemented it perfectly. The ropa vieja was also delicious, but not my favorite of the 2. I also ordered a side of sweet plantains which was a nice dessert. The interior has a small section for seating and would be a good place to stop of lunch if you worked in the area. The staff were friendly and inviting, despite my visit being close to their closing time. Overall, I had a great experience here and will definitely be back in the future.
Stopped in for lunch recently and got the chimi chicken bowl. Wowza, what a giant lunch! The bowl had some red beans, chicken, purple cabbage slaw, and a heaping portion of rice. I think the food was more or less pre-made (it took only a minute for them to bring it out). But it was tasty and more than you get for most fast-casual lunch spots (though at $12 it was a bit more expensive; they also have sandwich options for $9-10). I work nearby so will definitely be back to try other items off the menu.
First time trying the new Colombian Spot location on Forbes avenue in the heart of Oakland! We wanted to come here for a while now after falling in love with their SouthSide location! It was a late night, and none of us felt like coming, so we took the excuse to grab take out from The Colombian Spot! I got the chimi chicken bowl, and my girlfriend got the Ropa vieja bowl! Both bowls were amazing, the meat in both was so tender and flavorful, and there was a good portion of rice and beans in both bowls, so you definitely get your money's worth! I definitely can claim their arepas at their SouthSide location is amazing, and I hope to come back soon try the arepas here! Definitely check it out for a quick lunch while in the Oakland area!
I've been meaning to try this place since I keep driving by and was glad to finally get around to a take out order. I got the brisket bowl and the serving was wonderfully huge (makes for great leftovers!). The food tasted great and the brisket was super tender, but the menu listed the ingredients of that bowl as including sweet plantains, which were missing from my bowl. I was already back when I opened my bowl and wasn't going to make the trip back out to ask for the plantains. I'll be coming back to try more of the menu but I'll definitely be checking the container before I head out next time.

The Colombian Spot has two locations--this one in Oakland and another one in the South Side. I ate one lunch at this location in Oakland. The menu listed bowls, salads, empanadas, arepas, sides (e.g., yuca fries and black beans), desserts, and juices. An employee promptly took my order and payment. Several minutes later, she called out my name for me to pick up the foods from the counter. Here are my ratings for my order: Paisa salad - 5 stars - This salad was a large size, and it was loaded with very fresh lettuce, plantains, red peppers, cheese, avocados, tomatoes, corn, carrots, and cucumber. All of these ingredients worked very well together. Choripollo arepa - 4.5 stars - A crispy corn paddy was filled with chicken chunks, cheese, and other ingredients, and I liked the flavors. Tres leches - 5 stars - This moist cake was delightfully sweet. Mango juice - 5 stars - The sweet taste of this juice was very refreshing. read more
Not bad but found the portions, esp for the Yucca fries, to not be worth it. The arepa also wasn't toasted at all, but the flavors were all pretty good. The bowl was mostly rice and beans, and again the flavor is good, but Chipotle is way more bang for your buck. read more

I stopped by here yesterday by myself for lunch. The Colombian Spot is located right on Forbes Ave at the corner of it and Meyran Avenue. I had noticed it the previous few days but had seen a sign saying that the grand opening was yesterday at 11 AM. So whenever I found myself walking by at just after noon, I decided to stop in. The restaurant itself looks small from the outside but once you are inside, it's bigger than it looks. Their menu is on the wall and they have 2 options for places to order, one from a cashier and one from a tablet. Then they have a place to pick up your food and a bunch of seating throughout the rest of the space. For lunch on this day, I decided to get some food that I would share with my wife and so chose the beef empanada, chicken empanada, vegetarian empanada and also the Choripollo arepa. All of them came with a sauce and so i was able to try the pink sauce, aji and garlic sauce (x2). All of the empanadas had the same shell (masa harina?) with the only difference being that the vegetarian was green, chicken was yellow and beef was orange. The shell was on the denser and drier side, but it had a good texture and corn flavor to it. My vegetarian empanada on this day (and maybe always) was bean based and had a nice flavor to it. Then the chicken had a nice array of spices which was welcome while the beef one was favorite as it really tasted of beef and cheese. After that was done i started in on the choripollo arepa which the menu described as sautéed Colombian chorizo, grilled chicken thighs and mozarella cheese. I enjoyed the combination of the chorizo and the chicken on this sandwich and only wish that the chorizo was a little bit spicier (although that might be how Colombian Chorizo is). Finally the cheese on it was good as it was melted and there was an ample amount of it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the guy future. I really enjoyed everything that I tried here, especially that beef empanada. read more

Have been to both locations and they are absolutely on point! Empanadas are amazing as are the tostones. When I moved here from Fl I thought I wouldn't find good Colombian food and I was very wrong. Give either location a try! read more

Their food is so yummy! We ordered a paisa bowl that was simply divine! It is topped with Colombian chorizo, fried pork belly, red beans, sweet plantains, avocado on white rice. The chorizo was super flavorful. Pork belly was melt in your mouth with a little crispness from being fried. Red beans were so creamy, soft, and went perfectly with the white rice. The plantains were sweet with a little tartness. It was the perfect foil for the richness of the chorizo and pork belly. What is not to love about avocado as a topping? Altogether, a great dish! We also ordered beef and chicken empanadas that came with a choice of sauce. We chose the garlic sauce, which went with everything, including adding some to the paisa bowl! We also ordered maracuya, which is a passion fruit drink. That was also very good! As a fast casual Colombian Spot, they are Spot On!! Sorry, had to go there! read more

I got the paisa bowl and it was delicious. It was my first time coming here, but I know I'll be back! The beans were wonderfully seasoned and the pork belly was perfectly crispy! Although some pieces were a little bit tough. The chorizo, plantains, and avocados were a nice addition! I got the garlic mayo sauce, which was tasty as well, def heavier on the mayo side. read more
If you come here, you got to try the arepas and chicharrones! They have a few different arepa options, but my favorite is the Ropa Vieja (shredded steak). The meat was savory and the arepas were perfectly crisp, yet soft. The chicharrones (fried pork belly) were amazing and go so well with the Aji sauce!! They were fried just the right amount, which is important because if you overfry them they end up tasting like cardboard. I also got the chimi chicken bowl, but the meat was way too dry. I was disappointed at the chicken, and the other ingredients (rice, beans, peppers) were not redeeming either. I probably wouldn't order a bowl again. The yuca fries were ok, but they were somewhat stale and not as crunchy as they usually should be. I'm not sure if it was because we ordered to go and they sat in the box for too long? Other than that, the arepas were yummy and would 100% come back for the chicharrones! This place is a great option for quick Colombian food, but if you want more, I would definitely recommend their larger location in the Southside which I love! read more

I loved this place. I tried lunch on 2 consecutive days here. Tried chicken empanadas and their chicken bowl. Both were awesome. Very friendly staff. A short walk from Magee Women's hospital. Dood was fresh and hot.Their garlic sauce went well with the rice and tasted awesome. Will visit again if am around that area. read more

I ordered online for pick up on my lunch break. Food was ready exactly ON TIME which typically is not the case in Oakland. It was a cold day so I ordered ajiaco. It was very comforting and delicious. The yuca fries were my favorite. They are so crispy and tasty. The empanada was good, the sweet plantains were OK. They were not was I was expecting, but still tastes good. read more
