Platter with Cachapa, Steak, Chicken, and Sausage

This place is a hidden gem. Really unassuming from the outside, located near the Salvation Army in the South Side. The woman taking our order was kind and patient. Very clean inside. We ordered a mixed grill platter, 2 empanadas, and plantains for $50 total. We ended up taking the empanadas home; it was so much food. Everything was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The platter was the highlight, especially the sausage and cachapa. Cilantro & Ajo might be one of my new favorite spots in Pittsburgh. If you're lucky, you might even see their food truck out somewhere!

I brought my husband here and the food was wonderful! Authentic and delicious! This is a great place to come. There is only street parking so plan to walk but it's very worth it!

We tried the Lawrenceville location, and it was amazing! Family-owned, traditional Venezuelan food - what more could you ask for? This is their second location, and I'm so glad this place is thriving! Inside is small and cozy with plenty of tables. They bring an entire bottle of their green sauce to your table and we went through about half of it - it was so good! I'm a big fan of unique condiments, and this complemented the food so well. A spicy option would be next level! The empanadas were so crispy and delicious - not greasy at all. The bowls were cooked perfectly. Everything from the plantains, beans, protein, and rice was seasoned well. The yucca fries were hot, crispy, and the best texture out of any yucca fries we've had before. Service was fast and friendly. They were very helpful in answering any questions we had. Loved this place!

So glad Cilantro and Ajo has joined Lawrenceville. Food options just keep getting better and better. C & A is no exception! The shredded chicken bowl is where it's at! The meat is juicy and exploding with flavor, as are the beans and plantains. All for a very affordable price. Weekdays they run a $10 special and it's at least a meal and a half. We didn't dine in, so I'll be back for a dine in review soon.

Super yummy yuca and green sauce. I like that their yucca is straight yucca and not a lot of breading. The green sauce is NOT spicy, like some green sauce I've had from Peruvian places. It takes about 7 minutes for the yucca to come out, and I've kept on going back for more!

I stumbled on this hidden gem while staying in the south side before a licensure exam and it did not disappoint! Food is very flavorful, and staff is wonderful! I definitely enjoyed the colorful artwork featuring menu items along with authentic Venezuelan music and culture! Come back this place when you're in the area!

My friends introduced me to this place as they live on E Carson st. and we know that this area has many hidden gems in regards to restaurants and small businesses. I've been introduced to different ethnic foods since my move to Pittsburgh and this definitely made it on my top list! I love the sweet plantain that comes with the orders because it adds a little bit of sweet & savory snack to the meal. Their shredded beef was seasoned well and I would love to come back and try their other protein options. My friends had the arepas while I had the bowl since I'm not really into bread/sandwiches for lunch, and I feel like I made the perfect choice for my first time! We also tried the yucca fries, which were worth a try and I found out that yuca is a separate root vegetable from sweet potatoes! It definitely had similar texture and taste but I can see the difference in size that they had from sweet potato fries. I recommend dipping them in the green sauce that they pair with it for a flavorful bite. The service was great as it gave mom and pop shop, and the lady at the register served us our food once they were ready instead of having our orders called in and grabbing it at the counter. They were super nice when it came to asking for extra sauce, water, utensils, etc. and satisfied our visit.

Tried this restaurant's food truck. Great friendly service here! I ordered the arepa pabellón with avocado. Very good and flavorful! The green sauce is great. Will be back.

My favorite Latin place in Pittsburgh! The ropa vieja is always so good inside the arepa. Tastes like my abuela made it! The plantains are cooked to perfection, and the vibe at the restaurant is perfect. Love Cilantro & Ajo!

Cachapa with Venezuelan Chesee (Queso de Mano)!!!

My boyfriend has been coming here for empanadas and claim these are " the best empanadas he's ever had". I finally got to try these and glad they did not disappoint! The turnovers are on the fluffier side, different from the baked ones I often eat before. But the cachapas was SO GOOD!!! Delicious sweet corn pancake with cheese in the middle, a little sweet but also the savory flavor balanced it out just the right amount. For street food, the price is not the cheapest in the area ($4/empanada; $9 for cachapas) but everything we got tasted amazing. The restaurant itself was clean and spacious.

Tasty down home style food in casual atmosphere. This isn't health food but it's all fresh and well prepared.

The menu lists appetizers (e.g., tequenos, tostones, yucca, and tortilla chips with dips), Venezuelan arepas (gluten-free cornmeal cakes filled with meats, cheese, or vegetables), Venezuelan empanadas (gluten-free cornmeal filled with meats, cheese, black beans, or plantains), Venezuelan mains (gluten-free criollo, cachapa, and patacones), Mexican tacos, Mexican burritos, Mexican enchiladas, non-alcoholic beverages, desserts (e.g., flan and churros), and more. Venezuelan cuisine is a blend of indigenous, Spanish, and African influences, and most of it is naturally gluten-free. In addition, several vegetarian options are available, and some menu items can be customized to be vegan. Since 2021, my husband and I have eaten here off and on, and all of our meals have been excellent. The employees promptly and courteously serve us. Here are my ratings for the menu items that we ate: Tortilla chips with queso and guacamole - 4.5 stars - The tortilla chips had a good flavor. The queso tasted extremely cheesy. The guacamole was very freshly made. Beef empanada - 4.5 stars - The fried-dough exterior was perfectly crispy, and the beef filling was savory. I particularly enjoyed the green sauce on the side. Seafood empanada - 3.5 stars - This fried cornmeal pastry was filled with tilapia, shrimp, and vegetables. It was a large size, and the flavors were alright. Pabellon empanada - 4.5 stars - This fried cornmeal pastry contained black beans, white cheese, shredded beef, and sweet plantains. My husband ate it and said that he really liked it. Llanera chicken arepa - 5 stars - This arepa is my husband's favorite go-to. It was a very large size, and it was stuffed with much chicken, lettuce, tomato (although my husband does not like tomato), cheese, and guacamole. My husband commented that the combination of flavors was delicious. On the side was guasacaca, a tangy Venezuelan sauce that is made from avocados, green peppers, garlic, cilantro, lime juice, and mayonnaise. Chicken quesadilla - 4 stars - A flour tortilla was filled with shredded chicken, cheese, onions, and peppers. The ingredients were very fresh, but the quesadilla tasted slightly plain even with the sides of guacamole and sour cream, so I dipped it in queso. Veggie quesadilla - 5 stars - A flour tortilla was stuffed with yellow cheese, green peppers, and onions. On the side were pico de gallo, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream. I really liked the gooey cheese and the flavors of the vegetables. Soft tacos - 4.5 stars - My husband ate these tacos. One was filled with chicken, and the other was filled with pork. He seemed to enjoy them. Plantains - 5 stars - These fried plantains tasted very sweet, and they were topped with some cheese. The serving size was generous. Tres leches cake - 5 stars - A large slice of cake was soaked in three milks and topped with whipped cream and cinnamon. I really enjoyed the taste of the sweet cake and the spicy cinnamon.

The gentleman at the counter offered some suggestions as we looked at the menu. He even let us sample some of the fresh juices! The restaurant is bright and welcoming with plenty of windows and seating. The special churro station off to the right instantly got my mouth watering. I had to try them! The arepas looked and smelled so good we couldn't wait to dig in, so we ate in the car. The arepa was crispy but fluffy. It was packed with fillings and flavor.
