We are so lucky to have this awesome spot on our side of the city! We have been meaning to stop since they opened a couple months ago and are so happy that we finally did! The owners are super welcoming and were helpful in explaining the menu items, knowing it was our first time visiting! Everything from their in-house made breads and pastries to a variety of tres leche flavors and flan! The vibe totally reminds us of some of our favorite places in Miami! For our first visit we enjoyed the week's special, Kitchen Sink, as we wanted to try a bit of everything! It included rice, both pork and beef, 2 types of beans, queso, garlic sauce, pico, and the most wonderful plantains! The weight of the container felt like 10 pounds of food. We honestly should have weighed it. We also enjoyed the kiwi strawberry tres leches, and the most impressive, delightful, flakey, giant guava danish (that had cheese layered under the guava). In the short time we waited for our order to be prepared, we were already planning to return the next day! And that we did. The next day we returned for the Cuban w/ fries, a guava lemonade, flan, and another guava danish to enjoy the following morning because it was just that good! The Cuban was also massive, full of so much protein, and the bread insanely fresh. We for sure will return to probably enjoy every other menu item over time, because it all sounds so good. Milanes Cuban Corner is a local, family-owned Cuban restaurant that opened months ago. It is located in a strip mall in McKees Rocks, but do not allow the location to deter you from visiting. My husband and I ate one lunch here. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I felt impressed by the interior design--vibrant colors, wall murals, and greenery. The two owners promptly greeted us. The menu listed shareables (e.g., ham croquetas and guava boneless wings), rice bowls (with beef, pork, chicken, or vegetables), sandwiches (e.g., Cuban), baked goods (e.g., tres leches and flan), and non-alcoholic beverages (e.g., Cuban coffee). We have never visited Cuba, but we have eaten authentic foods in many other Latin countries that have similar cuisine, and we felt happy with this restaurant. Here are my ratings for what we ordered: Beef empanadas - 4.5 stars - Two empanadas had a nicely crispy crust and were filled with seasoned ground beef that was not greasy. I liked the garlic sauce. Veggie Completa Rice Bowl - 4.5 stars - This vegetarian entree was flavorful and filling. It consisted of sweet plantains, yellow rice, black beans, pico de gallo, and garlic sauce. My husband loves rice and beans from Latin restaurants, and he said that this rice and beans was not the best ever but was tasty. Pan con Pollo Sandwich - 4.5 stars - This sandwich was a large size and contained juicy shredded chicken, mozzarella, cilantro, onion, and garlic sauce. The bread got slightly soggy, but we liked the flavor of the filling. Danish - 4.5 stars - This danish was a large size, tasted sweet, and had guava and cheese in the center. My husband ate all of it, so that is a compliment. Guava lemonade - 4.5 stars - This guava lemonade was house-made, and it tasted sweeter and less sour than typical lemonade. We did not receive a receipt, but I think that the price was $54 plus tax and tip, so it was not cheap but was worth it for the quality. read more

What a cool, vibrant, and charming restaurant! We tried the Cuban sandwich, potato balls, and empanadas--each one was absolutely delicious. And the cookies? Incredible. We haven't stopped talking about them! From the very first bite, all we could say was, "So fresh!" Everything tasted amazing, and you can really tell how much care goes into the food. Just found out that we actually have Cuban food in Pittsburgh and immediately had to try it. We were warmly greeted by the owners when we came in despite coming twenty minutes before closing. They were so nice and let us stay there to eat. We were going to take it home to eat it. They did a great job decorating the place. It looks so cute. The entire menu looked delicious. We wanted one of everything. They also make fresh baked goods which all looked amazing. My husband got the pork and absolutely loved it. I had the picadillo (ground beef) was amazing. We came back from FL a few weeks ago where we had Cuban food and I never thought I could have it in Pittsburgh. So happy we now have this option. We got beef empanadas and tres leches cake to go. Looking forward to trying those tomorrow. There's so much food that we have leftovers for tomorrow. If you like Latin food, you must run here and try it. Bonus, it's in the plaza down the street from the Roxian. I'll definitely be coming here before concerts. read more

Suuuper cute little Cuban spot in McKees Rocks! I was so excited to try this place as soon as I saw it! The music, decor, and the domino table add to the whole experience. Beautiful handmade pastries at the counter. Service was super friendly and welcoming. I felt like I was at the home of someone I've known for years. I ordered the Sunday dinner, which was pork, yellow rice, red beans, pico, and maduros. The garlic sauce and pick added so much flavor to everything! The pork was tender and juicy. The rice and beans also had a ton of flavor. I am obsessed with the maduros. They had the perfect texture, not super oily, and the little bit of salt just made them even sweeter! 100/10 experience. read more

A gem of a spot. The staff are awesome...super friendly and passionate about their food. The Cuban eggroll had a great crunch. Mojo pork sandwich was excellent...perfectly braised pork and bread super fresh. Pulled beef was super tender and rice had some character without being salty (raw onion added texture). Couldn't ask for much more and can't wait to try more on the menu! read more

This place was a really nice surprise in an unlikely location. Everything we tried was very flavorful and well made, from the sauces to the scratch made empanada dough. The portions are extremely generous for the price. We played a round of dominoes and chatted with the owners, then ended up ordering more empanadas to take home. We'll be back! read more

Food was delicious and portions were sizeable. The bread is home made and fresh. Service was attentive. There was plenty of parking on a Saturday lunch hour. Price for a sandwich was $16-18 which seems a little steep but the size was very good. Will be back with more friends to try out some other stuff! read more

Milanes Cuban Corner is truly EXCELLENT and an exciting addition to this area! I went here for the first time a few days ago with my parents, who have become regulars. The folks who own this place are so kind, personable, and accommodating. They made a smaller portion of one of their dishes for my 8 year old daughter--who they recognized just from my parents' stories! Everything I tried was delicious. They are obviously making all of this food from scratch and not cutting corners. The guava lemonade is fantastic! I can't wait to return with my husband and sample more of the menu. read more

I have been trying to go here since it opened and finally made it today for lunch. It smelled so good inside! We were greeted by the owners Carlos and Collyn . Both were very nice and answered questions I had because I had never eaten Cuban food before. I ordered the Milanes Imperial and shared the nachos and loaded dip. Both were absolutely delicious! The portions are very generous so I took some home along with a Samoa tres leches cake for dessert which was also very good! I will definitely go back because I want to try the Cuban bread among other things! read more

Love recognizing a well-run family owned business located in a strip mall. Not a large restaurant but enough room for several booths and some high top tables. Enthusiastic greeting as we entered and continued our entire visit. Salas-inspired music playing on the jukebox with warm Caribbean decor. All the baking (bread, cakes, cookies) is done in-house by the wife. Cuban sandwich was delicious as was the Sunday dinner and the loaded fries. Definitely worth your visit. read more

Overpriced, bland, with a rude owner/manager and in a rundown shopping center. It's just a bad time. The food itself would be 'good' if it were about half the price. As is, it's not worth it. The interior of the restaurant is fine, if very 'strip mall'... which is what it is, of course. But as I said, it's down in the old Rocks shopping center. It's just a little sad. And again, the personnel in the location were not at all friendly or welcoming, but rather dismissive and gruff, if not just kinda rude. read more

I don't even like Cuban sandwiches. Until now. Very flavorful. The service is great, the aroma will take over as son as you walk in.

Love love love this place! My wife and I went there and were warmly greeted by the owners while the grandparents helped with the kids in the back. A true family establishment in the best possible sense. I had the shredded chicken with rice, red beans, and plaintains. All were phenomenal! My wife had some shredded beef dish that she said was great as well. Portions were huge so we had lunch the next day as a bonus. We had the empanadas as well. I consider myself a it of an empanada expert and these may be the best I've ever had. Manage your expectations though. It closes at 7:00 and doesn't really have table service in the traditional sense. read more

Great food, very nice owner/operators. we've been there twice the second time they remembered us. everything the wife and I had was delicious. Support this local restaurant, so they can continue to stay in business. The neighborhood needs variety and you can't go wrong here.
