Really enjoyed our first visit to El Pollon which is just a few min from our house and a hidden gem on Main Street in Carnegie! Clean, open interior and very quick and friendly service! Both of us enjoyed our entrees. My husband had two pieces of bone in chicken and they were quite small, so he would have gotten a whole chicken next time. Wow! Es de diez!! Having never tried Peruvian food, I was intrigued to try something new. We went for lunch, and they were busy but we still got a table right away. The restaurant is sizable with lots of seating and a bar. The kitchen is open in the back of the space and immediately draws you in with delicious smells. We started with the beef empanadas, and a new dish I had never heard of; Papa a la huancaína, that means 'Huancayo-style potato', is 3 pieces of boiled and chilled potato, with a cheesy mild sauce called huancaína on it. Imagine the best potato salad you've ever had and this is better. This is worth a try for sure! We decided to go all out and got their family meal deal #1 with 4 large sides and a whole rotisserie chicken for $29 (as of 6/4/25). There was so much food!! The table comes stocked with three sauces, one jalapeño, a medium yellow sauce and a seasoned mayonnaise. I think I'm always going to need to be served a bottle of this Mayo for the rest of my life. It went well on everything! Their jalapeño sauce was really great, too! The chicken was really well seasoned and flavorful through and through. Juicy and well cooked, this chicken almost fell off the bone, but was easy to eat with silverware or your hands. We also tried the Peruvian rice, plantains, corn & French fries as our sides. Matt always has to get fries! The servings were extremely generous, and were all complemented by the sauces. The mayo and the corn were so good! The service here was so good as well. The girl that took care of us was nice, and helped me pronounce names of things, made suggestions from the menu and her favorites. We ended lunch with the tres leches cake. This was a winner. The restaurants serve "Pollo a la Brasa," Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken that is marinated with native Peruvian spices and cooked in the heat of charcoal. In addition, the menu for the Carnegie location also lists breakfast foods, quesadillas, burritos, burgers, specials such as steak and grilled tilapia, side orders such as fried yuca and black beans, and desserts such as tres leches and alfajor. I stopped by here a couple of Saturdays ago with my wife and kids for dinner. This was actually the second time that we had stopped at El Pollon and both times we had ordered online for future. It is located on East Main Street in Carnegie and there is easy street parking for it. My wife ran in both times we had visited and picked up the food but I can tell you that it was ready at the time we wanted and we were always quickly on our way. On the most recent time we went, my wife and I ordered 1 Whole Chicken with 2 Large Sides and chose the Plantains and Peruvian Fried Rice for ourselves and then got our twins a steak quesadilla to share. The chicken here is awesome and it has a great rub on the outside while the meat inside is tender and moist. Their plantains are sweet and delicious while my twins have housed the Peruvian fried rice both of the times that we have gotten it. Finally our steak quesadilla was awesome here as the steak was legit steak and tasted tender and juicy as well. Combine that with the onion and cheese on the tortilla and I was almost sad that it wasn't my meal. The bottom line for me is that i would stop by here again in the future. I've traveled around Peru and can confirm the flavors are authentic! It's so delicious and there are so many depths of flavor. The inside was fairly spacious with quite a few tables and a bar area with TVs. The staff was super friendly and had excellent recommendations. I was a little wary of the Tallarin a la Huancaina con Lomo since I'm not the biggest fan of spaghetti (it reminds me too much of being poor in college lol) but that dish absolutely blew me away and is a must try! It was incredibly flavorful and the sauce was wonderfully creamy. We also really enjoyed the moist chicken, the delicious skirt steak in the carne asada, and the delightful homemade Chicha Limeña drink. My review of El Pollon is a tricky one, because I'm still not sure if I truly enjoyed the fusion meal I ordered. Let's start with the appetizers. Nothing fancy here--everything went straight into the fryer, and the condiments were the same kind of pre-packaged sauces you'd get with chicken nuggets at McDonald's. The marinara that came with my calamari was the exact same brand my school cafeteria uses, which was already disappointing. If El Pollon wants to compete with other authentic ethnic restaurants, why not serve their own sauces--or at least make it look like they do? A simple ramekin or small bowl would go a long way. Instead, the presentation felt lazy, like it was just thrown together. Now, onto my main dish: Lomo Saltado a lo Pobre. It's steak served over fries, with rice, plantains, and tomatoes. The dish felt like a fusion of Peruvian ingredients with a Pittsburgh twist. I didn't hate it--it was a flavor combination I'd never tried before, and for that I appreciated it. That said, I don't think I'd order it again, though it wasn't bad. I do plan to go back and try their rotisserie chicken, which I think will be the true deal breaker for me. Overall: If you find yourself always going to the same restaurants, El Pollon is worth trying at least once--for a unique, unusual meal you might end up liking. I believe the place has real potential, but they need to put more effort into presentation, which many people will tell you is almost as important as taste. read more

I love food, especially Latin Food. Pittsburgh has come such a long way in terms of Latin Options. I was psyched when I heard we had a Peruvian Restaurant that was serving authentic Peruvian. I had to try it. It did not disappoint and made my whole day. Wow! The service was great. Everyone was so nice and so attentive. They take pride in their work and what they are putting out there. I was excited when they had my favorite Peruvian drink chicha morada. I love things that are sweet and it's so good. They also had my favorite entree, lomo saltado (marinated steak, peppers and onions, French fries and white rice). It was so delicious and flavorful. I'll be dreaming about it for a while. I enjoyed my time at El Pollon. I have never heard of this restaurant until today, so I knew I had to give it a try. I did not have an issue finding parking considering it was 12:30pm on a Thursday. I sat at the bar and was greeted extremely quick. My waitress was very kind and made sure I had what I needed the whole time. I ordered the 1/4 Chicken Dark Meat with Fried Plantains and Peruvian Fried Rice. The food came out in about 5 minutes and was so full of flavor. There is not one thing I would change. The music that was playing made this experience even better. The whole restaurant is very clean and the service is top notch. I was very full by the time I left. I will be back! read more

Update: 5/5 had the half chicken with the Peruvian rice. That chicken is worth it. Well marinated in that Peruvian spice blend. Ooo-we was that good. The skin was tremendous. Spiced and crispy. Chicken was very hot, yet not over cooked at all. I probably looked like a barbarian stopping the chicken bare hands and dipping it in the yellow and green sauce, but I couldn't have cared less. This was a completely different experience from the first visit. (Below) 1st visit: 3/5 The Chicha Limeña was the best thing on this visit Sweet with a hint of cinnamon (taste kinda like jamaica). The fried plantains were solid to. The yellow sauce was nice, I couldn't pinpoint what was in it, but I loved it. The green sauce is the smoother cousin to the Mexican Salsa Verde; very solid. I will give it a second chance because we didn't get what the place is known for. The salchipapas was more like hotdog and fries. I think it's be worth noting on the menu that it doesn't come with everything salchipapas could come with. Burger was bleh maybe like an under $10 quality burger and I honestly forgot that it had chicken on it while I was eating it. Not the move at all. Same space as BKN and they kept the same open clean feel to it. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Will be trying it again for the chicken so this review could change. read more

Came here for dinner on a Friday evening and it was pretty busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table. I got the fried chicken with fried rice and fried plantains and it was amazing! The chicken was so crispy and flavorful. The rice was slightly sticky, and the plantains were sweet perfection. I ordered some fried rice and fried plantains to go as well. My whole family loves it here! We've been here four or five times and enjoyed every single one of our experiences. The inside decor is pretty simple. There are standard tables, tables along the wall (half booth seating, half chairs). The menu has a variety of options so everyone should be able to find something they would enjoy. A favorite of mind is the salchipapas, It is pretty basic, but delicious. Basically just sausage cut up and served over fries. But paired with their house sauces it is delicious. My daughter and husband both enjoy their beef dishes. Even the steak and eggs is unique because the steak has such a great flavor to it. It is a pretty thin steak, so expect that. I loved their ceviche. Definitely fresh and packed with flavor. Our servers have always been attentive and willing and friendly when we've asked questions about certain items. There are a variety of drink options (fountain drinks, canned pop, Jarritos and apparently seasonally aqua fresca). An enjoyable experience and a place we will definitely be back to. read more

Delicious! Just went tonight with my father, his first time and my first time eating inside. Ambiance is great and seating is comfortable. Staff is very kind and very helpful. I inhaled my chicken tamales and fried plantains. Literally melted in my mouth. He enjoyed the skirt steak entree, please forgive me, I forget the name. He got the plantains, and fried Peruvian rice. A really great spot that I'd love to come back to! When I come back, I will try some of the explicitly Peruvian menu, because this time I just went with classic items. I just tried their chicken burrito along with sauces. It was actually very good! The price was super reasonable and the portion was solid as well. It was packed with a ton of rice. Actually, I would say too much rice, and it wasn't the most flavorful, which did detract from the meal. However, the chicken was well cooked, they had an adequate amount of beans in there, and the vegetables were well cooked too. I think there were too many onions for my liking, but that might just be me. Nice bit of cheese too, but not excessive. I really enjoyed the sauces. Although I'm not usually a fan of spicy green sauces, this one was surprisingly refreshing. I also loved the creamy yellow sauce, and wish I ordered more of it! El Pollon is one of our newest favorite restaurants. The Peruvian Family Meal is wonderful and reasonably priced. The chicken is flavorful and juicy and delicious with three sauces to choose from. The dinner includes four family sides with a long list to choose from. The portions are also plentiful. My family of three usually brings enough leftovers home for a plateful of lunch for one the next day. Finally, service is quick and the food freshly prepared. This place is terrible. Got the appetizer sampler thinking the chicken would be full of flavor or Peruvian style - instead it was like Tyson chicken tenders deep fried. We ordered 2 burrito bowls with chicken. I'm confirmed 2 times that we ordered 2 bowls. We only got one. The language barrier with all employees is awful. The chicken in the burrito bowl was less than 2 ounces. Combined with rice and lettuce - terribly disappointing. We left here to upgrade to fast food on the way home. Do better. read more

We went for breakfast and the sausage and bacon was beyond crisp as was the hash browns but I like mine that way. We were supposed to get 4 meat but we received 2. The eggs were good and the French toast was tasty. The coffee and service was decent. They sat all the customers in booth tables next to each other which I really don't understand and it gave me anxiety because of the close proximity. My husband and I stopped here for breakfast after having heard about the place being newly opened. Breakfast is served all day here and they earlier hours on weekends as opposed to weekdays. The offer the standard breakfast fare with one notible exception. They have a chicken fajita omelette made with their signature rotisserie chicken. I placed an order for that omelette and my husband ordered the breakfast sandwich with sausage. It took a while to get the food but I figured that they needed more time to prepare the rotisserie chicken. Normally you get as a side hash browns but if you order the breakfast sandwich the menu clearly states you get home fries with it. We finally got our food. The omelette is your standard 3 egg omelette and the hash brown was a decent size. Our server gave us some salsa to put on it or ketchup. My husband got his sandwich but he took got a hash brown. As I was eating the omelette it was filled with chicken throughout but honestly nothing really to write home about. My hash brown was typical-the salsa gave it the added "zing" that it needed. My husband did not want to send back his sandwich for a correction in the side since we had waited long enough for it. He enjoyed the sandwich but thought it was a bit greasy-possibly from the sausage. The portion sizes are generous and it is fairly priced. I may reconsider this place on a future visit to try out their lunch rotisserie. Take out is available along with call ahead for orders. Came here for breakfast. I don't eat meat but my husband does. He loved his chicken fajita omelette and I got the veggie omelette. What I liked: The prices are reasonable. The portions are generous. I like how they serve salsa with the omelettes. The hot sauce was homemade and was delightful. Was green and in a bottle. For the omelette you can pick either a side of toast or hash browns What I didn't like: Ketchup is not Heinz but rather a generic brand. Did not have any as a result. I'm so pleased to have another Peruvian rotisserie place in the region. El Pollon has a delicious menu with a variety of options in addition to the namesake bird available. We've tried the chicken along with fries, tomato/onion salad, black beans, and Peruvian fried rice. Everything has been delicious. (Don't skimp on the superb green sauce!) We will certainly sample other entrees in the future and update accordingly. We've only gotten takeout so far, but I want to note that the inside of the restaurant is really nicely laid out with plenty of seating. Service is extremely friendly and efficient also. So good! Came in on a week day around 5:15pm. I was amazed by how much seating space is available. The restaurant looks smaller from the street. Everything was clean and brightly lit. Only one table of about 6 people were seated. I was greeted immediately and brought water and a menu. My server was very friendly and polite. She took my order quickly, and I swear that in less than minutes I had my plate in front of me. I had the 1/2 chicken with two sides. I chose the Peruvian fried rice and fried plantains. The chicken had a nice seasoning on the outside and the thigh meat was juicy. The breast piece was a little dry, typical of a breast, but they gave me 3 sauce bottles to use with my food. I loved the spicy jalapeño sauce on the chicken. The Peruvian rice was good and had big chunks of chicken and egg. It was also a little bit dry, but still good. The fried plantains were perfect. I would highly recommend having them as a side. I asked for one of the dessert items alfajor (cookie). It had dulce de leche in the center and powdered sugar on the outside. My meal was so incredibly flavorful I can still taste it. The fries soaked in the juice from the steak and it was just so delicious. We enjoyed everything about this place.
