We decided to do a little staycation with our toddlers on Neville Island--a quick dip in the hotel pool and then dinner in Coraopolis. We read through lots of reviews of restaurants in the area and decided on Five Star Honduras. The restaurant was clean and the service was helpful and quick. We ordered enough to feed an army, but we didn't realize it when ordering. The portions are generous and everything was quite good. We ordered plantains, carne asada, a breakfast chorizo dish, a tamale and a horchata to share. Little did we know, many of the other dishes we ordered came with plantains so we had them coming out our ears. haha! Lots of other people coming in that evening. First time in this evening and we were very impressed with the food and service here! The waiter was helpful in providing recommendations and came by several times to check on our drinks and make sure the food was too our liking. Tonight we ordered plantains, carne asada, a breakfast chorizo dish, a tamale and a horchata to share among two adults and two kids. It was about the right amount of food for all of us as the portions were large for the meals and the sides. Also, in terms of timing, we came in at about 5:45 on a Friday night and had no trouble getting seats. There are probably 8-10 tables so seating was ample too. Neither of us had eaten Honduran food before, so this late lunch was something of an adventure for us. One of the few Coraopolis restaurants open on Sundays, much less after 2pm. Very popular with the ex-pat community, although the menus are bilingual for us gringos who need English translations. Dinner portions and prices the whole day; they also serve breakfast. The empanadas are twice as large as any I have ever eaten, and the broth in the sopa de res was sooo flavorful. I didn't know how to eat it with the rice and tortillas and ended up taking most home as leftovers, since the empanada filled me up. Beware the grilled pepper that comes with the carne asada platter: muy caliente! Our server was good, and the kitchen was very fast. Free street parking, no-frills restrooms (men, women, and a family/handicapped one). read more

With a place called Five Star Honduran food, the food better really be 5 stars. And here, it actually was! I have never tried Honduran food, so it was my first experience, and it was amazing. I would love to go back. I tried the Nuegados De Yuca Con Miel (cassava with honey), plantain, a pupusa de queso (cheese flatbread), and an empanada. The empanada was the only item that I thought was just okay. It was pretty average. A little too hard on the outside, and the moisture in the container led it to being soggy. The beef was pretty well seasoned but dry. It was also served with a tasty, fresh salad, which had some cheese on it as well. It was mostly lettuce, though. Now, the pupusa was out of this world! It reminds me a bit of a cachapa if you've ever had those. Cheesy, soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside. Simple but very tasty. And, it's served with some tasty pickled vegetables that add a nice crunchiness. The sauce it's served with reminds me a bit of marinara as well, it's quite good. Definitely recommend, and I'm sure the bean stuffed one is even better. The plantain was the best plantain I've ever had, and I am a big fan of sweet plantains. It was absolutely humongous and very sweet. A tad oily, but not especially so. Genuinely very good, and soft too. It was served with what I think is sour cream, and that complimented it really well. Almost tasted like plantain with ice cream. Finally, the cassava with honey, that was an awesome dessert. I would say that it tastes like gulab jamun with a chewier texture. Soaked in tons of sweet syrup, touch of something like cinnamon, and overall, just very very good but also extremely sweet. All in all, I loved essentially everything from this place. It's an excellent introduction to Honduran food, with awesome prices and incredible flavors. I highly recommend this spot! read more

We tried this place on a whim tonight and it was fabulous! The food was incredibly tasty and the service was friendly and responsive. Three of us had the Carne Asada Tipica and two of us had the chicken dinners. The helpings were very generous and as noted, delicious. We also had dessert and coffee. I experienced their for my first time was not so good . I was the only person sitting in the place alone and it took the young male waiter 10 minutes to come out and see if I was there. I waited an extremely long time for my food maybe 20 minutes. It sounded like there was a party going on in the kitchen. The waiter was not very helpful on what was on the menu. My food finally came. It was some kind of meat pie. And a chicken pie. It was very dry and very bland , nothing exciting about what I ate. It was like chewing on stale bread with some kind of stuffing.. The waiter never came out and asked me if I needed anything else. Then I waited another 10 minutes being the only one still in the restaurant and nobody was coming out to me. I had to get up and go to the counter and look back into the kitchen to see my waiter, eating his dinner . The only thing good was the service. I ordered a beef corn empanada. It was soggy, and the sparse filling wasn't rich and flavorful like real beef should be. I suspect it's a blend made with cheap soybean fillers. The chicken tacos were greasy and contained very little chicken. It was cut with cheap vegetables like cabbage and carrots to save money. I knew it wouldn't fill me up, so I order a piece of fried chicken. It was greasy, like all the food. The grease has that unpleasant mouthfeel and slightly off flavor of Crisco that's been used several times. Yuck. There was a lot of some kind of disgusting cole slaw. It was all full of cheap, empty calories from flour, cornmeal and rancid trans fats. It tasted bad AND was bad for my health. read more

My son lives in Coreopolis. He has been to this restaurant several times and was urging us to try it. The three of us met there for lunch on Saturday. The food was uniformly excellent. The whole red snapper was lightly breaded, fresh and tender. The shrimp in coconut sauce was flavorful. The prices were outrageously low given the quality of the food. Service-I think family members-was great. Since portions and included sides were large, we took the meat patties home to eat later. Our air fryer crisped them up nicely the next day. Have a sense of adventure and give Five Stars Honduras Restaurant a shot! We ordered take out and it only took 10 minutes. The restaurant space is clean and inviting. Some food is prepared earlier in the day and kept warm in a case (tamales, empanadas, etc). The menu online only shows pictures and no prices - I recommend visiting the restaurant to grab a paper menu that lists the meals in Spanish and English with descriptions and prices. They have a breakfast menu that I would like to try. Overall, the food was delicious and high quality. Honduran flavors are simple but delicious. The bean and cheese papusa was my favorite, especially with the salsa and pickled vegetables. The chicken tamale was moist and flavorful. The flour beef empanada was on the smaller side and came with a side of pico. The Honduran tacos are two fried chicken tacos topped with a salsa, coleslaw style cabbage, and cheese. I personally did not like the sweet cabbage on the meal but my husband loved it. The tacos themselves were delicious. I look forward to visiting again and trying additional menu items. read more

Quick and easy seating for 5. Beef soup is like eating home cooked food with a twist. A big chunk of Beef with a large piece of carrot and yucca. I cut them into more manageable pieces and had lots to bring home - it's a large serving. We also had the fried fish which can be hard to eat if you don't know how to get to the meat of a whole bone in fish. It comes with a large salad. Also got the shrimp in coconut sauce which is almost like a curry and excellent. Finally we got the carne asada tipica which my husband said is always a winner. My 10 year old liked the cheese enchilada from the children's menu and the chocolate milk, which she actually said was too sweet after a bit. Server was very nice. You might have to go up to the counter at the end to pay and get to go boxes for leftovers if you're in a rush. We've been here a few times eating in or picking up food to go. read more

We ordered around the menu because it was our first visit. Our friends who lived in Honduras for many years recommended Five Stars as authentic Honduran food and we couldn't wait to try it. About the camarones en leche de coco (shrimp in coconut milk): I loved this but my son said it best, "oh I could just drink that sauce straight from a cup!" My husband had the carne asada típico, which we all tried. Perfectly seasoned with lovely sides. The empanadas, both corn (maíz) and flour were lovely, but a bit greasy as they, alas, can be. Still tasty. Come prepared with some Spanish as English is not their favorite language, and bring your sense of adventure. Well worth it! read more

I'm sorry for the folks who previously ranked this spot. We had lunch there a few days ago and the food was AMAZING. Everything was hot, fresh and fast! I got the fried chicken: and it was a delicious and huge dish, which had a quarter fried chicken (maybe the best I've tasted in a long time) chicken on top! People need to think twice about slamming a restaurant on Yelp within a few months of its Opening. I ordered tamales and when I opened one It immediately fell apart, it was very mushy and had a big bone in the dry pork but tasted pretty good though it was hard to eat since it kept falling through my fork. The only reason it gets more than a 2 is because it tasted good. read more

The empanadas were really good, I was very excited about trying this restaurant in my neighborhood but the food took quite a bit to come around lunch time and my baleada was very salty and cold, I couldn't finish it. We were very excited to come and try the authentic food but it feel short from expectations. They took forever too give us menus, they weren't attentive, the food took to long. They need more staff serving and the food lacked flavor. The portion on the carne asada combination was 1/8 of what it was pictured, we asked the owner and she said that's how it comes. We went when it a week after they open. They were a little slow bringing out the food. But the food was good. Good size portions. We went again after 2 weeks since we were in the area and the food took a long time to get to us. My husband ordered a seafood soup. The fish was raw and it was bland and the rice was a ball of mushy rice. I order the pollo con tajadas and the chicken has no flavor. They were good the first time we went but the second time was awful. We seen 2-3 tables leave the whole plate of food. And over hearing the that the food was bland.
