I need my safety check done and so I come to montgomery because the staff there was genuinely care about my bike (an employee told me to fix it myself to save money first before having them fix it). First time I came the guy told me I need my tire replaced so fine I came back second time after a replaced my tires. This time the owner was the one who does my safety check. He said my clutch is bad and mirrors are bad too. Granted it might be a problem but the thing was those "problems" exist before they did my safety check the previous times. Couple that with having my tire replaced I'm starting to think they just want money out of my pocket. FYI the nice employee from before is not there. read more

Customer service by the service department is better than I've experienced in most stores and businesses. They open at 9am. I arrived with my Vespa GTS300 at 10am. I filled out a work order request, and was told that my scooter would be ready in 20 min. They have cubbies behind the cashier in the showroom for customer helmets and jackets. They have a coffee bar and comfortable seating where I plopped down with my iPhone. The service advisor walked up with my paperwork and key, and my ride was ready with the safety sticker installed. Paid the friendly cashier, and was outa there in less than half an hour. Btw, Battery Bill next door has a $140 pocketable lithium ion battery with battery clamps and accessories in a zippered nylon case. It has 26,000 mah capacity, and will jump start a V-8 engine. A smaller one ($110) will start motorcycles and smaller motors. read more

I walked in today ready to buy a DR-Z70, and all the riding gear for my son. I first went to the parts area with three employees in the area. Not a single one asked if I needed help. Hoping for better customer service I then went to look at the bikes with cash in hand ready to buy the DR-Z70. I was even considering a RM-Z450 for myself. After looking at the bikes for around 15 minutes, and in the store for 20 minutes total not a single employee came to assist me or at least greet me. Don't know if it had anything to do me with me being there 30 minutes after they opened. But needless to say I'll be taking my business elsewhere and buying my son a CRF-50. read more

Update to my initial review. The rating remains at 4 stars, but this is to share with the yelp universe about MPS's labor and my experience. I go to Montgomery Powersports because I like their staff and the quality of the work that they do. No doubt, they will take care of your bike (even if it's not a Suzuki)! The standard labor rate is $99/hour, and this is clearly posted in the service check-in area. This should allow you to estimate your potential expenditure (and the staff will gladly give you a rough estimate). But, if you bring in your own parts like I did, be aware, it may become more difficult to estimate labor. I had brought in my own chain, sprockets, and rear rotor for installation (since they are a Suzuki shop, why let them order the parts I need for my non-Suzuki when I can order them myself?). Keeping in mind MPS does great quality work, I estimated it should take a decent shop ~ an hour to install the chain/sprockets. I was given an estimate of about $150, which is fair enough. However, when I added the removal and install of a new rotor, a half hour extra labor was tacked on ($49.50). In my mind, since the wheel was already coming off to put in the new rear sprocket, the rear rotor should have been an 'add on' and taken no more than a minute or two to remove the 4 old bolts and rotor, set the new rotor on, and bolt back on. I didn't gripe about an extra $50 since they do great work, but to be fair I don't think charging a half hour per component ($50 to do the front sprocket, $50 for the rear, $50 for the chain, and $50 for the rear rotor) is entirely the best way to calculate labor. I think a more reasonably method would be to start a clock when the bike goes in for work and stop it when the job is complete. Multiple that my the standard labor (to the nearest quarter hour, half hour, whatever) and charge the customer that. As my paperwork shows, if I thought a shop would take a half hour to install a rear rotor when the wheel was already off, I would question what the heck they're doing! Not to rant about MPS. I like them and will definitely go back and continue to pay for their services. Maybe my experience is due to providing my own parts, but 2 hours labor for chain/sprockets/rear rotor might have been a hair excessive. read more

Want to start out by saying I never review services online and I hate bad mouthing people, but my experience here was so ridiculous I don't want anybody else to go through them.Totally disappointed with the service department here, avoid them at all costs. Called them before bringing my bike in back in the beginning of June for a stator issue, told them what the issue was and talked pricing. Sounded reasonable so I took it in and once again described what needed to get done. Within 2 days they had looked over the bike and given me a list of additional repairs, which I was fine with (I have a 2000 CBR6 F4 that wasn't kept up very well before I got ahold of it). It then took 3 WEEKS to "price parts" for the repairs. In that time I contacted the service department repeatedly and was either told to wait more or just hung up on. Had to talk to management before they would do anything. After contacting management they finally called back (first time in over 3 weeks they had actually called me) and we went over pricing and options, showing that until then they hadn't started doing ANY work on my bike yet. Put the parts in for order, which I was informed would take about 3 weeks (which is understandable, they were coming from the mainland). Kept waiting and calling back because again, they never called to say what was going on. After TWO AND A HALF MONTHS and more talks to the administrative department, finally got my bike back, spoke with them in the shop and asked them what they had done to repair the electrical issue I was having when I brought it in. The tech told me "they had checked it out and it all looked good". At this point I was so fed up I paid and left. Didn't ride more than 10 minutes before the same problem I brought it in for popped right back up. Called them and was connected to the manager who wanted to "make it right", so I brought it back the next day. After 2.5 months and $1,300+ in repairs, they took another week and another $150 to figure out and fix the exact problem I told them about at least twice back in June. No apologies from the service department, no acknowledgement of poor service, nothing done to "make it right". I don't know what the problem with that service department is, but they need to get on top of it. STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM MONTGOMERY POWERSPORTS AS POSSIBLE unless you want to give unnecessary amounts of time and money to people that don't care or know how listen. read more

I've brought both of my bikes here and have had mixed experiences, never anything mind blowingly great or bad. They did replace a few small things on my Harley free of charge and have always been great with the safety checks. I was very disappointed with my last experience though. Was told by the tech after replacing my tires that the forks were bent, bought a set of used forks and brought them in to be replaced. Afterward, the tech that worked on my bike told me that it was the axle that was bent. I asked if the old forks were straight and he was very dismissive, said he didn't even check. So between buying the forks and paying to have them installed, I wasted $700. Plus, I still need a new axle. I only brought my bike here because it's a salvaged Ducati I put back together and every time I take it to South Seas they try to get me to replace everything that's scratched on the bike. I doubt I'll bring it back here to get the axle replaced though. read more

Although I used to like south seas I stopped into Montgomery and my loyalty shifted. For 3 reasons. 1. They charge by the half hour so when I can't do a job myself they are by far the cheapest service I have seen on the island. 2. Even though I have a Honda magna they usually have parts on stock (even the Honda dealers struggle here) and for cheaper than their competitors. 3. This is the biggest one. The sales people aren't trying to force you to leave with something. This is a big issue for me. I love going to look at bikes at cycle city and at south seas. Cycle city is notorious for this. And I hate it. Montgomery has a few sales reps who will actively defer you to bikes they don't sell if it sounds like what you're looking for this happened to me when I went in Saturday my friend and I stopped in and spoke to an Asian floor guy and a white bearded salesman. The guy with the beard said 'what it sounds like you want is a BMW if you have the money.' Please note they don't sell BMW's at Montgomery he was very knowledgeable about the different types of bikes and the purposes they serve mechanically. Honestly I think the guy needs a promotion! Hell, I'd like to go back just to pick the brains of some of their people. Even the local looking guy at parts was cool to talk to. read more

I was pretty impressed with this place at first. Friendly staff, casual atmosphere, and good service. Came in for a safety check only to find out I needed new tires and fork seals. Priced out the tires in the shop and they had the best prices in town. Way better than cycle city or south seas. Anyway, some friends of mine directed me to tires they don't keep in stock so I called and ordered them since they're one of the only suppliers on Oahu. When I originally talked to the guy at the parts counter he said installation was about $50 per tire. When I called to order the tires the guy said he wasn't sure. When I called to schedule the installation the guy said they might have a small up charge and when I asked how much he said just bring it in and they'll install it. I was pretty stoked about that, however when I went in today to pick up my bike I got hit with a bill for $140. About $120 for installation and more for tax and disposal. They said because my tires weren't at least $150 a piece I had to pay for the full installation. Even though you would think I could have just paid the difference. I don't want to trash this place cuz they hooked me up with a front rotor and they were generally really cool, but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Also bothered me that I asked 3 different people and I got three different answers. I was going to get my fork seals done here too but I'm gonna give another place a shot now. I talked to one of the service guys and I asked him about it and all he said was I should have ordered "Q3s or something." would have been great if he offered to refund me the difference or help but all I got was a shrug. Oh well I still think they're a good shop overall, and definitely better than most on the island. read more

Over $400 for 2 sets of blinkers I bought from them to be installed and rotating my back tire. I tried to cancel the work when I heard it was going to take 2 1/2 hours but they "had already started". How nice they started before giving me a quote. Not very professional. Everything was done fine but WAY over priced!!! read more

Best service experience! Needed safety check today and they took me right away. Within 30 minutes my bike was ready. Even charged me the exact proper amount (per City's price list). Other places want to rip you off by charging more. Other places have limited hours. Other places only take you if you have an appointment. read more

First off I have never felt that a company's service was soo bad that I needed to take time from my day to review my experiences with others but there's got to be a breaking point for everything right!? So after reading a few reviews for MGPS... I should have known to stay away but I had heard that they are a bigger shop and good customer service from a friend.. Not my experience tho! They took a month to get in parts that I am not sure I needed even..? After getting my parts they didn't even call me!? I had to stop in to find they finely got them in. They never once returned any calls that they said they would. After this bad experience I thought it was over and they would redeem themselves in some way but instead they took two weeks to get the 5 hours of work done...?? Every once a week I would call as they came up with a story how they had it on the bench or one of the parts that they put on last week doesn't work this week.. Total confusion and no concern for costumers bike, pocket or time!! End of story. I will never return and will be telling friends spread the word so maybe MGPS will try a little harder in the future and for the poor customers who will have to find out this the hard way like I did. With lost time and money that I could have taken to the next shop. Hopefully one that's wants to help actually get me on the road or can at least act like they want to! All in all...Not happy about the customer service at all!! I would liked to have given your company one last time to redeem yourselfs but I don't think anyone cares... My one experience - to get a safety inspection on my H-D - was totally positive. Showed up when they opened, waited 10 minutes while they cleared the garage (a daily process), and the inspection was done 40 minutes later. Everybody I met there was upbeat and positive, and there was none of the hassle of a bigger dealer nearby. I'll go back to Montgomery Powersports for maintenance and gear. read more

I purchased a 2014 Indian Classic at MPS when the new Indians first came out a little more than a year ago. I was really planning on purchasing the bike in the mainland and shipping it over (as I have done with all of the Harley's I purchased in the past to ride over here in Honolulu). My experience with the Harley dealers here on the island has been that they jack up the price so much, it is just cheaper (and more pleasant) to make the purchase on the mainland and ship the bike over. But MPS gave me a price that I just could not beat - even on the mainland - and so I happily made the purchase at MPS (and it felt good to support the local economy). I have been going in to see Russell and Noah (sales) and Dave (parts) for various needs since taking delivery of my bike and they have always gone over and beyond to make sure that I am taken care of and that I am happy before I leave. I do not usually write reviews, but after 16 months of continual top-notch service, it is time that I speak up and say so. So, Montgomery Power Sports, Russell, Noah, and Dave, THANK YOU for all of the great service, expertise, prices, and help you have given to me. May 2015 be your best year yet! read more
