Went in to buy a( moped. Was sold a bike they said was a moped only to find its classified as a motor cycle. DMV says motorcycle, also local cops and safety inspectors. File a complaint with BBB,DMV and small claims court. All pending. Was told to bring it back( they would get it registered as moped. Illegal! Bank returns my money. Want me to return it at my expense. Told them I'm not paying for towing. So it sits in my shed. Oh yeah I never registered it. If they don't pick it up. Will donate it to a good person. Mechanic tried multiple times to get me to pay him $100 in cash outside of business hours, even after the owner once intervened and said no deposit was necessary (his second justification was that I needed to pay for a chain he broke. Yes, a chain HE broke.) He said he needed it or else it couldn't be finished on time... Turns out, he could finish the bike just fine without it. Well, "finish." He couldn't get it running, he left the rear brake undone, and now I have no kill switch. read more

Needed to change my rear tire on my SYM DD50. Most of the shops was out of my area. So I decided to just stop by to see if they had anything in stock. Within 5 minutes he was pointing out my tire options and went straight to replacing my tire. A little over 30 minutes later I was back on the road. And very reasonable price half the price of other shops. I would recommend this shop but if you are one of those tricked out suped up peds another shop would be choice for those performance parts. Just want to point out that I've read the previous reviews and completely understand where they're coming from. It's true, the two older Chinese men are very hard to understand and cooperate with -- but if you're patient, kind and understanding, your experience will be very pleasant and cheap! Rainbow Motors is privately owned by Mr. Lee and his friend Mr. David. My moped died on Nuuanu, and I called them up (they were the closest to my location) and had them tow me and my moped to their shop in Dillingham. They're very hard to understand, but luckily I'm good at understanding people in heavy accents. Once I got there, I had to wait a little because there were people ahead of me which was understandable. While I was waiting inside their shop, they were explaining to me what was wrong with my moped and how they can fix it. Along the way, I kept asking them to fix little things on my moped. In the end, I got a new battery, a new mirror, new set of keys, got my seat fixed, got my moped washed, got towed, and they were nice enough to clean my lights and pre-check my moped for it to pass my safety check happening next month. I'm not going to lie, the shop was really sketchy and not the cleanest place -- but I've seen worse and I was just very grateful they were able to help me out. In total, I only spent $115! Mr. Lee and Mr. David make up their own prices, so it really pays off to be kind, patient and understanding. They both love to talk story, and I would definitely recommend going to them if you need a quick fix for a cheap price. Just remember -- they have a thick accent. Don't get angry at them because you can't understand them! They accept card or cash. You can also negotiate your prices too! Again, they're privately owned so they make their own prices. My wait time to get everything fixed was about two hours. They're my #1 place to go to whenever I have moped problems. Got a nail in my moped tire--costed me $5 to fix it! Open late after work til 6pm, too! I was so happy, I went & bought an additional $35 LED headlight cuz I ride at night a lot! Convenient location across the street from Bob's BBQ on Waiakamilo, but enter from behind on the Makai side! They service 2-stroke & 4-stroke engines, also sell new & used mopeds! Think I'm gonna come here once/paycheck to do small repairs & upgrades! HIGHLY recommend!!! read more

I'll give a fiver ...I've bought. three mopeds from there ...or four I've lost count . the place isn't the nicest environment to hang out . but it's not the worst . you can find a chair if you really want one and their mopeds are cheapest on island with the exception of the Metro ...which is so so in quality. If you've got a mechanical problem they fix you up cheaply ...fast and reliable. two of the older guys are unintelligible ... especially the guy who pics up your mopeds on the road...Chinese jumble ,Chinese jumble , Chinese jumble followed by Ahhhhh! be ready to hear that. and don't try to understand it... maybe get one of the mechanics to interpret. I've gotten good service and products there, it's just not a pretty showroom setting ... just go with the flow. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. They sold us a moped for $450. License plate was a California plate. Didn't think anything of it. They gave us California paperwork that was not signed by the last owner or the shop. This was the first time we bought a moped so we didn't know better. They told us to go to the Kapahulu moped registration place, but first we had to get a safety check at Montgomery Motorcycles. So we did, paid $17 and went on our way to the Kapahulu moped place. After we got to the registration place the lady told us that the moped we had paid for (in cash btw) was already registered to someone in Hawaii. They told us there was no way we could put it under us without the Hawai'i papers and the Hawai'i owner's signature. We went back to Rainbow and told them what happened, and they told us that there was no way and that WE were wrong. One of the older dudes that worked there said he would go to the moped registration place and talk to them. 3 HOURS LATER We were still waiting for the guy to come back. Mind you this should have taken him 30-45 mins max to get there and back at this time of day. We couldn't wait any longer so we asked another guy that worked there for our money back. He refused and said he didn't have it, and that the other guy had our money. So we waited and waited. Out of nowhere that same guy, that we asked for our refund from, came out with the full $450. We told him we need a refund for the safety check too for that bunk (probably stolen) moped. He made a huge deal about it before going back and giving us the money for it. This place is TERRIBLE. We were so patient until we had to wait 3 hours. No apologies. They didn't care one bit. I do NOT recommend buying anything from these guys. They do not care about you, just your money. read more

On behalf of my sister, she bought a moped from These guys in November brand new. She then left to go home in California for a few weeks. So in the meantime her moped was not in use until she came back mid December. She never owned a moped this was her first, Towards the end of January she hasn't ridden her moped because our father was ill and in the hospital so she stayed with him the whole time. Moped sat until Tuesday Feb 2, we took her moped out. It took a bit but it finally started by kick start. We drove it around for while and her battery still wouldn't start after we turned it off. My uncle checked the battery and said this is one old battery. She took it back today and said the guy just yelled at her accusing her of switching the battery! She doesn't even know where the battery is at and she hardly used her bike. If could I would give this company negative 10 stars if any. How can you accuse my sister when she didn't even do anything to the bike let alone change the battery. For what?!!! She doesn't own another moped. So stupid. I will never recommend this shop to anyone except to let them know they rip customers off and take advantage of they know the person has very little knowledge on mechanics. My normal place didn't have a lot of the parts I needed so I asked them where to get them and they suggested this place. The building in located on the corner of Dillingham and the parking is in back accessible from Wiikamilo St. Walked in and there are mopeds and part everywhere. The owner? is an older Asian guy and he is pretty straight to the point. I needed a new tire and he had it in stock. There were a bunch of other parts from motors, exhaust, and switches to mirrors, lights, and seat covers. Prices are reasonable but the service does leave something to be desired. There was another customer in there before me and she was firing off a million questions and that took up all of the guys attention and time so I had to wait a little bit. He was able to answer all of her questions but like I said that meant a longer time for me to get service. If you are looking for a moped, parts or even repair they have it and do it there. I would suggest being sure you know exactly what you are looking for. If you do then you can get it quick and be on your way. read more

I've bought 3 mopeds from this place since 2012 (they're always stolen before they break down too bad). I've always had fast service with all the scheduled maintenance, and they even do roadside pickup if I break down. The longest I've had one of their new mopeds is about a year or two before it got stolen, so I'm glad they have great prices. Yes, I've gotten the engine upgrades before (so I could get up the hill to my house), but with all these new moped laws, I'm just gonna bite the bullet to get a motorcycle license. Biggest struggle is our language barrier, but I can't complain. His English is better than my Mandarin, and honestly, he can look at the bike and know what needs to be done faster than I could tell him anyway. His son was always running around the shop and acted as a translator. (adorable) The guys kept me company while I waited and didn't mind me smoking out back, so all good to me. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. I just bought a moped from them and they did not provide me with a temporary safety check or registration. I thought this was odd but the owner was insistent that it was the purchasers responsibility to do all that. This was admittedly stupid on my part, seeing as its not even legal to drive out of the dealership but because the owner doesn't speak a lick of English I didn't try to get a better explanation. I called them back after going to another establishment to get a safety check where they informed me that the dealership did not follow through on the legally required steps necessary to sell me the moped. The owner refused to acknowledge any mistakes on his part and basically completely dismissed me. I would highly recommend going to literally any other dealership other than this place to buy a moped. read more

Short review: Do not buy from this company! Junky products, horribly unprofessional service & a trashy storefront. Rarely do I write reviews, only I feel if something is amazing or that I must warn the public out of concern. This is the latter. Went here years ago, felt unsure about the shop, so I left. Came back a few years later and they were still in business. I figured they have a shop, they have mechanics, Davin told me, there is a one a month warrantee on the entire moped and a one year warranty on the engine. So, I purchased a Chinese replica of the Honda Ruckus from Rainbow Motors. IT WAS A LEMON!! The bike ran, but continually stalled and then would not start. Also a cheap foot peg broke. Davin said the peg was not covered in the warranty!? (weird because he said everything was covered for a month) I took it back, they fiddled with it and got it started. I asked what the problem was and Davin said, "You don't know how ride moped." (I have ridden motorcycles, quads and mopeds in over three countries) I got the bike back to the North Shore and within a couple days, it would not start again. I had to take the moped back three times within the first month. Same thing, they get it started, I put it back in a borrowed truck, haul it home, waste a day and it dies again. The bike also had a problem with the break and safety sensor. Every time I was at Rainbow Motor they rushed and tried to get me out, as fast as possible! I felt they did not want to take the time to honor the warranty, because there was paying repair work for them. Finally, I asked a friend of mine, a top motocross rider at Kahuku and who tears down and rebuild his own bikes, to please take a look at it. He checked it out and found a problem with the gas line and carburetor. He fixed it and the thing has been running fine ever since! No stalling and easy starting!! (Mahalo Stephen Walker!) About a year later the hand brake cracks in two. The last thing I want to do is go back to rainbow motor, but I figured they would have a matching part in stock. I called to ask if they have a left handbrake. Someone answers the phone and says, after a long pause..."Uh". I said, Is this rainbow motor? Reply, "ye" I say, "Calling to see if you have a part in stock." Reply, "uh". I respond, "Looking for a left handbrake for the ruckus replica model." Reply, "You come down, den I look"... Hangs up! I must want to be tortured, because I was in the neighborhood, went by to give them a final chance for redemption and grab the part. They didn't have a matching brake handle, he showed me another model would fit but it's not right. I just didn't want to deal with ordering online, even though I saw that the other brakes were $8- $15 and Rainbows cost $20. I just bought it, came home, put it on, but the bike is having trouble starting. Made a promise never to go back there again and I suggest you do the same!! read more

bought a moped scooter thingy for my son and the engine froze the next day. they never put oil in the thing. bought another or got another bike from there and they sold it to me with a flat back tire. went to get it fixed and they forgot to put the chain back on. came back to fix a issue that was already there and he wanted to charge me to fix it. never again. they worse than suck. Came here to buy a small part (a crushable gasket for my exhaust pipe for the enthusiasts out there) that two other places didn't carry. This place had one and it was even cheaper than what I saw online! The mechanic that sold me the part didn't speak a word of English. No problem though, we conducted the transaction silently: I held up the old mangled gasket and he held up a new gasket. I rotated my palms upward and made a juggling gesture for "how much?" he flashed me a peace sign that indicated "two bucks". I wanted to "check in" to this business while I was there the other day, however, I could not find the listing on Yelp; so I decided to add the business on here myself. This business just reeks of shady. I parked in the back of the building, as that's the only area where one can park. There was a Chinese man smoking a cigarette standing in the path of entryway. I walk up, and say, "excuse me" hoping he would move to one side or another, but he did not. His cell phone immediately rang and he answered in Chinese and began having a VERY loud conversation, while smoking his cigarette, while still blocking the entrance. I say even louder, "EXCUSE ME", to which he finally acknowledges me and replied, "What you like?! Go look and buy!". I swear it reminded me of a bad movie. I walk into this "showroom" (which is hardly the word for it) to describe a bunch of haggard mopeds and scooters covered in plastics and cardboard boxes, and DUST... LOTS AND LOTS OF DUST. A gentleman comes up to me, (huge afro, very baggy t-shirt with holes and stains in it, and a ball cap sideways) and asks if he can help me. I ask if he's a salesperson, to which he confirmed. I ask him about some of the mopeds and he gave me (somewhat) of the answers to my questions. Then I ask him about one model in particular, which he said that's a moped, under 50cc, which in Hawaii doesn't require registration, insurance, or a motorcycle endorsement. He said that the moped I asked about has a bigger frame and they'd be happy to do an "... engine swap which will make it go faster. It's illegal but these cops don't know sh*t.." Bought 2 bikes from here and one of them the throttle keeps sticking and caused my boyfriend to wreak twice. The second wreak caused him serious injuries had had to go to the hospital. We brought the moped to them and they told us that there was no problem with the bike that it was the drivers fault!!! They began telling us to bring it to a different shop when it is still under warranty with them. came here to fix my moped last couple days then the guy name lee fixed it & he said he changed my spark plug,when i open and look at the spark plug it was old ngk and he charged me $50.00 then then went back the following day and told him what happened to my lift stand?why both tires are on the ground when u used the lift stand?normally rear tire is lifted..but he told me it was like that!broke. already(yelling at me!!!)the old man(owner) told changy(change it)$60.00?i told them it wasn't broken when lee picked up my moped at my house..giving me bullshit reason and yelling at me...not only that,every time i accelerate,my rear tire is hitting something that i don't have that hitting problem before...waste of money & waste of time explaining things and issue to them..i won't recommend this place at all read more

I took my moped for a oil change one week later bike started bogging w/ a loud tapping, lost of power checked oil level bone dry they denied anything wrong where the oil go? there are no leaks, it was not properly filled if at all, he kept telling me oil still good but as a routine I change it every month and a half not a happy man this Mr. Lee this motor was upgraded by them a year ago to a 100cc for $380.00 then they do me like this!! my motor is ruined they denied they upgraded my motor saying it was illegal, yet I know they do it all the time, I dug up the receipt guess what it said change head gasket, call the cops!! p.s while there .i saw them changing a ignition switch/gas cap on a bike I recognized ran into the owner next day at the library w/ another moped he said his other one was stolen. read more

I've been coming here for almost a decade. I've bought 5 Moped's from them over the years (3 were 50cc and 2 were 150s). I always get hooked up. It helps if you're patient with the bilingual staff. I've seen them chase off more than one rude customer. They pick me up when I break down; they do fast work and don't charge an arm and a leg. read more

The owner was really nice, we got a moped one day, got a discount on the lock we bought, went back and got another, and he gave us a free helmet.... Second moped wasn't the best when they put it together, left the feet cover off a little, but still good. Overall, I liked this place, even said when he changes the oil he'd give another discount. I understand the concept of shipping rates, but this outrageous!!! Shortly after driving off, my attention was directed to my receipt and the grand total of a $167.... Mike D. Only reason for three stars was to get posted. Bought brand new moped from them but ran like a snail death trap. So purchased 90cc boar which they put in but refused to give original parts back even knowing it was legally mine. Well stopped payment on credit card for the work. Cause of refusal to give up parts and it ran just as bad before the change over. Took it to someone else to fix problem, wrong gasket on carburetor. Seems like a plan to keep me going back to spend more money. Didn't work. After card company contacted him he was crying why I didn't take back for them to correct problem. When you loose my trust you really loose my trust, period. Well the card company said I should of gave them a chance, I said NO. But like real idiots the card company paid, to bad they didn't get paid. They should of considered how I feel about being cheated by rainbow cycles. Sent complaint to scooter manufacturer in China about merchant corrupt ways can affect their cycle sales, don't see to many around. No response from them yet but I suspect he was contacted.
