I've been going to this restaurant for years and have always loved their food. The food quality has always been consistent in my experiences. I especially love their wedding soup, a lot of other restaurants will barely put any meatballs in it but Monte Cellos does it right. I do miss how they used to make their own garlic bread loaves in house and now they just have garlic sticks that aren't nearly as good but this small change doesn't ruin the overall experience. However today, day before Thanksgiving when a lot of people are off and out to eat there was only one person working the bar area and adjoining seating area. Id give 10 stars, but they couldn't get their garlic bread right forever. The waitress said it was the supplier's fault. We always thought it was made in house. So it was replaced with so-called garlic bread sticks. Definitely not made in house. And definitely not garlic. Lots of pepper if that's your thing. The mailbox for comments is full, by the way. We love this restaurant. Have been going weekly for years. The food is amazing and the service is top notch. They handily figured out how to excel despite covid, from the getgo. Monte Cello's is a fine name for a restaurant! We were hungry for pizza and my friend suggested we go here. It was fairly busy for a Thursday night and I was told that on weekends it can get super crowded. There were plenty of pizza options to consider but we chose the traditional pizza. The table next to us chose the deep dish style and it looked like one very hearty pizza pie. I think it was even thicker and deeper then what you would expect to be served at an Uno's. read more

Monte Cello's on Babcock earns a five-star rating because of consistency, price, portion, and taste. It has a kind and hard working staff and strong management team that clearly knows how to run a successful business. My family has proudly patronized this Babcock location for years, and I believe this is the best Monte Cellos location. The restaurant has a neighborhood feel but is nice enough to host special occasions or celebrations. No restaurant is perfect but Monte Cellos' staff works hard to try. We increased our patronage during the pandemic because the restaurant offers excellent take out options. We regularly order their pizzas (the veggie pizza is top notch), hoagies (the meatball is fabulous), and wraps (the chicken bacon ranch wrap is an A plus) but also enjoy foods from their catering menu. The restaurant asks that customers order 24-hours in advance if selecting from the catering menu. One of the best offerings on the catering menu is the half-tray salad or half-tray chicken salad. The salad trays are fairly priced and large, fresh, and delicious. The grilled chicken salad comes with fries, cheese, veggies, and dressing and is a great addition to any family-style food event. We ordered one with some pizzas and wings for the most recent Penguins game. Everyone loved the pizza and wings, but the salad was the standout selection. Speaking of the wings, Monte Cellos offers a dry rub option called "wing dust" that is a fabulous dry rub. Monte Cellos offers a 50-wing try for $50. The price is worth the size and taste of the wings and is also perfect for any family-style party. If I could change anything about Monte Cellos, it would involve streamlining takeout process. The waiting area is small and because the restaurant is popular, it gets crowded. The staff works hard to accommodate customers but the restaurant has not yet fine tuned the process for picking up food in a Covid 19 environment. A curbside system that allows a food runner to take food to waiting customers outside would be an improvement from an otherwise fabulous business. My all time favorite Italian restaurant and "go to" restaurant! Never had a bad meal or bad experience there. Calzones are second to none! Sicilian pizza is the best around hands down. Had the Joes Special pizza tonight; I forgot how good this pizza is!! Lot of people waiting in their cars to be seated tonight. Wait was 30 minutes tonight. Average for non Coronavirus times. The staff is very efficient and they keep things moving well without feeling rushed. Our waiter for out last two visits was Justin. Very good waiter. How have I never reviewed Monte Cello's? They're pizza is so good. I think this particular location is my favorite, though I've eaten at probably 6 locations and had similar experiences at them all. This location is BUSY, so order in advance, or be prepared to wait. Clean, friendly service, great pizza. The family "go-to" is the pepperoni and bacon. It is divine. The only real downside is that they don't deliver, though it's probably a blessing in disguise because I'd order it every other day. Eating leftover bacon pepperoni from last night as I write this review. Great place to catch the game in the bar area (which has restaurant seating...booths and tables as well as a more traditional bar) or get away from the idiot box on the restaurant side. Private back room is ideal for surprise birthday parties (since I just utilized it for my daughter's 15th). Parking is often a bit of a chore. They keep paving more and more of the area around the restaurant for parking, and still somehow fill the lot. You might need to driver around a bit to find a good spot. read more

It was my first time coming here. There were a lot of people coming in so it's clearly a popular place to eat. Somehow they still managed to get people seated within 15 minutes and everyone was socially distanced. Got a nice booth apart from everyone and the menus are wiped clean. My waitress(Ashley) was very kind and humble. Only came to the table when necessary and was very quick when we needed something. She took my cracker wrappers from the table and kept up with making sure our table didn't have anything unnecessary on it. She really went the extra mile for us. I had lots of bread which was fresh hot and buttery. My wedding soup was delicious. I was jealous of my boyfriend's salad because it also looked good. So did his main course, the meatball casserole. I had Lasagna and it was so good. I couldn't finish it because I was mostly full on the soup and bread so it's nice to have leftovers. Food took very little time to come out. Everything was perfectly timed. It didn't feel like we had to wait at all really. I love the low lighting as well. It really sets a calm mood. Pasta not cooked to order. Mushy. Having worked in restaurants I'm familiar with precooked pasta that is kept in cold water, then "shock cooked" in hot water to reheat. It's AWFUL. Not aldente and very tasteless. The capellini was horrendous and literally broke in pieces when I was eating it. Could not finish it was so bad. My friend had veal parm which was dry and the breading had no flavor. The meat was very thin, which is okay, but it was deep fried () and consequently dry and tough. His pasta accompaniment was penne pasta served in a small bowl swimming in LUKE WARM sauce! Yuck. Neither of us ate much of our meals. We ordered a small pizza and fries to go. I recently held my daughter's baby shower at Monticellos. I would HIGHLY recommend this venue for any special occasion. The décor is such that we really did not have to spend much on decorations. The cost for what we chose was very reasonable, and when you consider the quality and amount of food we had, the cost was very reasonable! The food was VERY delicious and everything tasted homemade and freshly prepared. The amount was beyond what I would call plentiful. The servers were friendly and courteous. Due to poor communication about their reservation policy, our traditional January family birthday party (which we'd held there for the last 7-8 years) was spoiled. Via about 5 phone calls, i was told that they only take reservations for parties of 10 or more. We had 10. I called 2 days before our planned celebration, was told that they don't take any reservations for Friday or Saturday. That info was NOT included in my first call. I was told to use NoWait and i should have no trouble securing a table for our celebration. Well, indeed, I DID have trouble securing a table! NoWait told me that Monticello would not accept the app for a party of 10! Specifically said that i needed to call the restaurant directly. I called, no answer. I called again. Was told that we would have an hour's wait and that i SHOULD have entered the number 7 in the "how many guests" option - and then to write in the note area that i actually had 10. IF that info had been given to me in the first place, we would not have had an hour wait! The young woman acted as though i should have known this, and expressed no regret about the poor communication inconveniencing us. We went to Silvioni's and had a wonderful dinner -- what started out as a frustrating result of lack of good communication and customer care, turned out to be our good fortune. read more

My friend and I ordered takeout here Saturday night as we wanted something different from the places we usually order. We both love Sicilian style pizza and thought we would give theirs a try. We went with a large antipasti salad with their house made Italian dressing and a large Sicilian pizza with sausage and olives. The salad was fresh and was really good. The dressing was a bit oily, but overall really tasty. Pizza was excellent...great dough and crust and solid toppings. We will definitely be ordering from here again...a bit pricey at almost 40.00, but we definitely had tons of leftovers, which are nothing to complain about. The takeout process itself was fairly painless, especially for a busy Saturday night, but the young girls who were working behind the counter and who answer the phones, prep the takeout orders, and interact with customers who are waiting were mostly rude painfully adolescent. A lot of eye rolling and complaining at the front desk about having too many orders or how long their shifts were. Mu husband and I love this place. We have done take-out, dine in and I had a wedding shower for a girlfriend here. It is a cute little italian restaraunt that offers a small bar and a party room. The service is always out of this world. The waiters and waitresses are always really nice, on top of everything, and keep my drink full. We usually get pizza when we go and it is also great. Even take-out the pizza is fantastic. We have gotten buffalo fries there as well and they are never the same. It depdnds on the cook. This is the reason I gave them 4 stars. I has a wedding shower for a girlfriend here and I couldn't have asked for anything more. They dedicated one server to us which was plenty. He was courteous of everyone that was there and provided friendly service. The shower went off wihtout a hitch, food was delicious, service was great, and everyone enjoyed themselves. We usually take our out of town guests here to have dinner as well. They seem to enjoy the food and atmosphere. They have alot of choices for dessert as well. Some are homemade and others are purchased from the bakery, Oakmont I think, but they are all good. They will tell you which ones are purchased from the bakery as well. They traveled throughout PA, both to Pittsburgh and Philly, and even went to NYC... and he said that Monte Cello's pizza was his favorite. Pittsburgh was his favorite too :) I'm not comparing Monte Cello's pizza to New York Pizza (or pizza from Italy for that matter). It's totally different. Website says open till 10:00 pm. My wife and I arrive at approximately 9:30 pm. We are told you're closed. Signs and website say you're open until 10:00. Also you doors were unlocked. If you're closed you need to lock the doors, I've worked in the business as a night shift manager and I'm open until my doors are physically locked. If someone walked in to my open doors I always served them, that's how I was trained and that's how I ran things. Look at your menu burgers, hoagies, pizzas, etc 80% of which take under 10 minutes to make. Your staff didn't even offer to make us a carry out order, for example a cold sub so you don't even need to turn back on a grill. read more

I've been to Monte Cello's on Babcock more than a few times in the past 5 years, so it wouldn't be fair to review them on my last visit (which was this past Monday) but instead review them based on the sum total of all of my visits (which are many). First things first: What I like: 1. Their Calzones are AMAZING. Definitely the best I've ever eaten. Not too saucy, not too small or dry, perfectly seasoned. I always opt for the meatball, and while I've usually had it with the usual meatball fillings (meatballs, a little sauce, ricotta and mozzarella cheese), this recent visit made me realize that you can add extras in it, and apparently it doesn't cost you any extra. I tried it with some pepperoni and extra cheese -- even though it was good, I will still just do mine plain. Also, I love the fact that they are filling enough (at least for me) that I can eat half there, and take half home the next day for lunch. Tip: if ordering the side of sauce (which does cost extra) and more than one person is doing the calzone, ONLY order one sauce. There is more than enough to share. 2. Which leads me to their side sauces. If you order a side of something (ranch, sauce, whatever) you get practically a BOWL full of it. It's almost bordering on too much...but hey...too much is better than not enough. 3. Pizza. They USED to have a special during Steeler games that you could order (during the game) a large cheese pizza for 7.99. They don't anymore. Hey, the economy, whatever. Their taco pizza is one serious pizza. Lots of meat, lots of cheese, lots of taco toppings. They aren't messing around. Get the jalapenos on the side, though. A little pricey on their pizzas, but they're really good. That's what Monte's is known for, mainly, is their pizza. 4. French fries. Crispy on the outside, fluffy and soft in the inside. Enough said. Some *minor* gripes: 1. If eating in, try NOT to sit in the dining room by the bar. I have found service to be a little slower there. I prefer the other dining room, or take out. 2. The price is a little high, but on the other side, the quality is good. General overall review: This is an all around great place to go. Go here. read more

After driving by here every day, I thought I would give the lunch buffet a try. I guess it was my mistake to go at 1:30, but I was disappointed. I understand that eating a later buffet with hardly anyone in there does not mean all the food will be the freshest, but the pizza was very dry and cold. The hot foods were still decent and they had pasta with meatballs, pierogies, chicken pot pie, buffalo shrimp, scalloped potatoes to go along with soup and a salad bar. It had potential, but for $10 was not worth some of the food being dried out. That being said, i will probably try it again for take out, so at least I know the food is fresh. Being new to Pittsburgh, I clump this restaurant into the many restaurants that seem like people just eat there because their parents or grandparents did even though it isn't as good as it used to be. read more

Completely ruined our family meal took 2hours and 16 minutes for our complete tables meals to come out (large seafood pizza, mini pepperoni pizza, Pittsburgh wrap, penne with meat sauce) 1 hour 4 minutes for our seafood pizza (cold) 46 minutes later they brought out the wrap and penne (penne was not cooked fully ) , and 28 minutes later they brought the pepperoni pizza wrong size and to boot the waitress charged us for the wrong size, two tables next to us were sat an hour after us and got their food before us. Waitress just kept saying I'll keep looking for your food, the absolute worst service I've ever gotten there had to ask for silverware, straws, and refills Been there many times and food was good not this time this was unacceptable and it will be a long long time before any of us ever go back I understand being short handed and being busy but food was cold and undercooked And could've been brought out together so we could've eaten as a family This was a case of horrible service and we believe our waitress just didn't put the order in until she was asked about it then still forgot about the pepperoni pizza till was asked about it Pandemics issues are understandable poor service is not.. read more
