I was visiting friends and they know I'm a pizza lover so we came in for dinner. I'm normally a tavern style girlie, but this Detroit style pizza was so so yummy. The crust was crisp and flavorful and I loved the unique topping options. Special shoutout to the house made chips we got as an appetizer. Absolutely craveable. We had to wait for a table since the seating is limited but it was definitely worth the wait!
Craving pizza? Iron born is an excellent relative newcomer to the game in Pittsburgh. With its variety of Detroit style pizza squares, it's a great Strip District bite for lunch. My wife and I split a "White Pie", a simple garlic cream sauce pizza with tomato, arugula and ricotta toppings. The zing of the lemon arugula offset the melt in your mouth richness of the ricotta. Truly a delicious yet simple treat! They also have many specialty sodas to wash that pie down. Seating is limited, but when you're so close to all the outdoor hangout spots at the Terminal, taking it to go is not a bad option, especially on those warm sunny days of spring and summer. Terrific!
Detroit style pizza, who can turn that down? This place has a lot going for it, friendly and knowledgeable staff, good location and cool interior. I came for the pizza BUT will return for those MEATBALLS! Inexpensive and possibly the best I've ever tasted, and I've tasted a lot! They're moist, flavorful, in rich marinara and nicely topped with fresh pesto. Delicious-and I'm not a fan of pesto. Do yourself a favor and order those meatballs to go-you'll be craving them the following day for sure. As for the pizza, I wished I loved it but it kinda lacked flavor and the sauce was way too tangy for my little ole taste buds. So if in the area, definitely stop in but whatever you do, order those meatballs!
Get service and really good pizza... it was our last stop on our way home. We were pretty full but it did not disappoint!
Best Detroit-style pizza in Pittsburgh--hands down! The crust is perfectly crisp on the edges, fluffy inside, and loaded with flavor. What makes this spot even better is their always-rotating vegan pie, there's always something new and creative to try. The restaurant has a great setup with both dine-in and bar seating, plus a solid lineup of apps. Always consistent and always delicious ! Lucky to have them here in the 'Burgh!
I really liked this pizza! The Buffalo sauce was great, paired with some ranch dressing drizzled on top. I usually love ricotta cheese but for some reason it felt slightly dry on this pizza. I ordered delivery so that could've been the reason. Also, I think eating the pizza with marinara sauce adds a lot, but requesting marinara was extra, so that wasn't too great. Taste wise though, I would definitely recommend!
We came here during the day, and there was already a line outside the pizza joint. I was initially peeved, but then remembered this is one of the most popular pizza spots in Pittsburgh. Even tourists have heard of Iron Born Pizza and want to check it out. Once we were seated in a booth, it felt a bit hot inside, so we had to take off a layer. We ordered the pepperoni pizza, and it was very delicious. Honestly, there's not much to complain about. The food and service were both good. It's just very busy. Highly recommend.
TikTok sent us here and we weren't disappointed! The pizza was absolutely delicious - as was their house Lambrusco! We had the Nashville chicken and the Yinzer. The pizza was thick, but not too thick, the perfect amount of golden crunchy crust - 10/10!! My ONLY complaint - we were here in August on a 93 degree day and we were first sat in the front booth with zero air movement. We ended up moving to a booth further back and it was better. But, be prepared for it to be warm on a summer day. Also we arrived before 7pm, so we didn't have to wait for a table but upon exiting, there was a small line outside waiting to be sat (as seating is pretty limited). Overall, 8.5/10! We will DEF be back!
WOW!!! Some of the best pizza I have had in the city. So many people recommended this place and said it was a must try spot in Pittsburgh and it most definitely is. We got some quick seats at the bar and it was great. We built our own pizza and tried the buffalo chicken pizza. Will definitely find my way back here ASAP
I ordered this through a 3rd party delivery service so I'm sure it's better when it's fresh. Don't get me wrong it was still delicious! We got the vodka pizza, white pizza, and GF cheese. I really like their Detroit style pizza & the crust is good. Would def try again!

We did get it delivered, so I can't comment on the interior or service, but the pizza and caramelized onion dip were both to die for good! We added prosciutto to this pizza. I know it's not available all the time, but this was surely a hit. Would definitely try other pizzas and even dine in next time. Everything was very fresh.
Love Iron Born pizza. I remember when they were in Federal Galley. Great to see them at their own location and it was packed. We got a table after about 15 minutes and ordered a couple pizzas to share. I really enjoyed the meatball pizza. The meatball was homemade and went really well with the cheesey pizza. Loved every bite!

This pizza place looked bigger from the outside but you walk in and there's like maybe 4 booths and a small bar area with limited seats as well. Took a star off for this. It's crazy how very little seating they have. I think they are mainly a carry out establishment. But we lucked out - coming between lunch and dinner. One size pizzas, Detroit style- rectangular, 6 slices. Very good pizza. We also ordered the chips and spinach dip - was a perfect starter , tasted home made-- both the chips and the dip! Paid street parking. PS- there are two unisex bathrooms and both have fun decor but one in particular has finished puzzles up on the walls that we found really fun. read more
We took a two week road trip thru Ohio and had a tried a pizza place in each of the 5 cities we stayed at and this place was my fave! I'm so glad we found it on our last day in this great city. Detroit style. We had the spicy pie and chips and dip ( we chose spinach dip). One star off only cuz there is very few seating. We lucked out cuz we started at the bar but just before we ordered- someone left and no one else was waiting for a table. The pizza was the perfect size for the 3 of us. We wanted a snack since it was in between lunch and dinner. 2 slices each but we stayed with chips and dip and the chips were great- home made. Definitely look for this place and stop here and grab pizza!!! PS- I regret not getting the pull apart garlic bread too! read more

Okay guys Buckle up, this headline should be "earth - shattering Gluten Free Pizza" seriously. If this place is known for one thing, they have MASTERED the gluten free thick crust. I was diagnosed w/celiac at 20 and I MISS GOOD PIZZA! Until I had this last Monday and when I tell you I actually cried. Iron Born came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. Pizza was a much better Jets, sides and bottom were crispy and the specialty pies were very imaginative. It was very busy around 6pm but I bellied up to the bar right away. I highly recommend! read more
Amazing! Who else has a gluten free Detroit style pizza? Best ever. The crust was thick, fluffy, the edges were crispy, the sauce like fresh tomatoes, pepperonis crispy on the edges. Servers were welcoming and casual, attentive and comfortable. read more

I went to try Iron Born Pizza while overnighting in Pittsburgh. Wow!!!! Pickle Pie is soooooo so delicious! The "sauce" has a nice garlic buttery flavor with a hint of maybe a scoche of honey. This odd pie was a party on my tastes buds! Unexpectedly delicious and satiating. I can tell this is a craving that I can't likely get anywhere else. The crust is thick with a flavorful crunch. Detroit style pizza might be my new fav pizza style. The crispy cheesy crust with the fluffy bread base was amazing. I went with the vodka pizza since my siblings love vodka sauce and wanted to try this one. I had been here a couple years ago but haven't been back in a while, I'm so glad I returned. The ricotta melts in your mouth and every topping just made so much sense together. Might be the fastest time my siblings and I have finished a pizza together haha. It was perfect for a mid day snack while we walking around the strip district. We got seated quickly at one of their booths, there's not that many tables inside but you can easily bring larger families here since it seems like the booths can fit 6, maybe 7-8 people per booth. The signage in the bathrooms detailing different pizza styles was a nice touch. I grew up eating Old Forge pizza so it was great to see it represented on the wall!! read more
You need to experience this pizza! We stumbled upon this cute pizza shop! We ordered The Vegas and split it! So yummy! Our pizza had a white sauce with mushrooms and meat. It was delicious! Stopped with pizza passport. Been the the millvale location before but never here. Server was super friendly and ordered my pepperoni slice. Mine had 2 pieces of pepperoni but the flavors weee solid. After an authentic Detroit style last summer, the hype faded slightly but still a solid take on the classic profile. Great crust. Sauce ok. read more

Really good, crispy, thick Sicilian style pizza. Could have used more whole tomatoes on top, and the thickness part of the crust was a little dry (more olive oil needed), but the outside crust and marinara was outstanding! This was very very good! read more
So i ordered a pizza to go from here... and was SO impressed. The pizza was warm, the service was quick, and all while they were so busy. The pizza was the buffalo chicken and there was nothing better than the ricotta stacked on top. I love bread, so the Detroit style is one of my personal favorites. Huge fan. Finally got around to trying this place and can't believe I didn't come here earlier. Pizza is delicious and fills you up. Also got a margarita that was pretty good! It's a small place so might have to wait to dine in but we sat at the bar which was still great. And they have cannolis that are cheap! read more
I think they had right concept in their head, but the execution wasn't there. Pizza had too much bread compared to the toppings. However, the staff were nice and took their time explaining the menu and such! If you like your pizza thick with ALOT of bread, go check out this place :) read more

We tried Iron Born Pizza on suggestion of a Pittsburgh foodie group and my daughter eating there a few weeks ago. The place is small but we got seated fast. The waiter was quick to take our order. The homemade chips are a great starter. They have a large selection of pizzas. We got 4 different ones for variety. All very good. Definitely a place we would visit again. read more
I had a wonderful lunch at iron born pizza! This restaurant is located right on the strip. Inside there were tons of seating options and the restaurant was clean and tidy. I got the white pie and it came out very quickly/service was wonderful. The white pie was super balanced and tasty, I felt like the lemon arugula really freshened up the heavy cheesy/onion pizza in the perfect way. Would love to come back and try all of their interesting pizzas soon! read more

They do not take reservations. If you have some luck you can fit 7 at the bar all together. They only have a few booths and it would be tight to fit 7 at one table.
