We got take out while visiting my parents. I will say that others have said really good things about the pizza at Donte's. We however, ordered an Italian hoagie and an order of bread sticks. The hoagie was standard, nothing great, but certainly tasted fine. The bread sticks came in a small pizza box and was a circle cut into portions. Two sauces were given with the sticks. Ordered a pizza and wings. I personally didn't like the pizza, I didn't even save it to eat the next day. I ordered the wings extra crispy, which they did in fact cook very well. The garlic Parmesan were actually delicious, would highly recommend those. We also got buffalo, but there was just something off about the sauce. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was not my favorite buffalo and probably wouldn't get that again. My husband said their ranch was trash and it's lazy if they don't make their own ranch, which he said did not taste homemade. read more

I can't believe I have never given a review of Donte's yet. I thought I had. Before I do, I want to say that before I ever tired it I would go by this place SOOO many times and it would make me nuts. I KNEW the name of the place, but out of the corner of my eye, I would always "see" donuts and would look over real quick and would be disappointed. lol. Because of this many times when I go there to eat, I order my food, then walk over to 7/11 to get a donut while I wait for my food to come. However, I kept hearing so much good stuff about it that I finally stopped in and wish I had done so much sooner. Now, I have not yet done any of their pizza there. If I do I will do the white pizza or chicken bacon ranch. I really just don't care for tomatoes and red sauce. That is part of why usually just get pasta or hoagies there. Especially since they have alfredo which I LOVE! I have always been satisfied with the pastas, hoagies, and fries there. The salads are good as well. I've only done pasta with alfredo or olive oil. Always filling and good. The place is always nice and clean and well lit. If there is no party going on you can go into the game room. There are a couple of pin ball machines there and I love playing pinball. P.S. I heard that they don't do pizzas with 2 different sauces (half one, half another) I LOVE that. I have worked at another place that allows it and I think it is ridiculous. Red sauce sits differently on the pizza than other sauces do. It is thicker and heavier so the pizza dough is less likely to bubble up in spots. It's one thing to get a pizza with different toppings on each half, but different sauces is just moronic. I ate at 15+ different pizza places during my most recent trip to the Pittsburgh area, and Donte's was near the top of my list. I wasn't that hungry so I only ordered a couple of pre-made slices. I've only been to Donte's for lunch because it's close to my work. Im always happy with what I get. They have an awesome lunch special that has around 5 choices and it comes with a drink for only $8.99. I tend to get the salad, two cheese slices and drink special. That's what I again ordered today. But I know the Italian hoagie and fries are a great choice as well. My only criticism is that there is a little too much cheese on the salad, but I'll sometimes order it with less cheese. This pizza is a take on Fiori's. Donte used to work there for years before opening up his own place circa 2006. The crust is very nice. You will not need to order extra cheese for this pie is cheesy enough. I tend to order this pizza a little well done, because I thought is was undercooked one time. They are happy to do this. The sauce is a little too sweet for my taste, though you might prefer this. I like the taste of this pizza, but $20.00 for a cheese pizza is a little ridiculous. Minus one star on value alone. Pizza never disappoints. The food is great, I cannot complain. HOWEVER, I will complain about this... Every single solitary time I walk into that place, every single person in that joint turns to look at me. Both workers and customers (can't control the customers). Now, that's a normal reaction, to glance at who just walked in. But there's a line that the workers and customers love to cross, and that's staring. I feel like a convicted felon the way these people are staring at me. Almost like I have the word "Fucking Idiot" tattooed across my forehead. I don't really have advice for how to fix this issue, it's more or less common sense/decency to not stare at someone for well over 5 seconds. It genuinely feels like a threat. We ordered takeout tonight for Super Bowl Sunday and wow are we glad we did! We thought that it might take a while considering what day it is but it only took 45 minutes. We ordered cajun wings that were to die for. It was a dry rub that tasted delicious. They were cooked just right. We also got the fresh cut cheese fries. They were really good as well! I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and added bacon. The dough has a slight sweet taste to it and had just the right amount of crunch. The chicken was fresh, seasoned, and cooked perfectly. The cheese was definitely the good kind, nice and thick. Definitely one of the best pies I've had around here. My boyfriend created his own pizza and added pepperoni, sausage, onions and bell peppers. He was a little surprised that the toppings were only on half of the pizza but he just spread them around and enjoyed it. We both really loved our food and will be back for sure. read more

GREAT PIZZA SHOP! Pittsburgh has many, many mediocre Pizza Shops. Just about on any street here. Donte's is VERY accommodating to all ages. Pasta Dinners, Sandwiches and Italian Hoagies and of course PIZZA. Salads are fresh and Fresh Cut Fries are delicious. Meatballs are homemade and a value. You get good food, nice portions at Pizza Shop Pricing. Dante's has daily specials that fit a families lifestyle that won't break the budget. Very novel idea today, good food, good portions and extremely affordable. Very friendly staff and accommodating to your needs. Great, local, friendly Pizza Shop. Reminds me of the personality of Danny's and Freddies from the 60's and 70's. It's a real dough pizza, hand spread and flattened, not a loaf of bread rolled into a shell. If you haven't tried it, you are shorting your taste buds and spending too much money elsewhere on shitty pizza. read more

This place has been on my list to try for quite some time now. It seems like I've been following them on social media forever, but this week I finally got out here and gave them a try ... twice. A few days ago I had the lunch special #2, which includes a half of an Italian hoagie, fries, and a drink for eight bucks even. I was super surprised with the amount of fries that I was given. This portion honestly could feed two or three people, it was HUGE ... too huge in fact, as I couldn't eat them all. The hoagie was decent, but not my favorite however, and I can't really say why ... perhaps the dressing, or maybe the types of meats, I don't know. Today for lunch I had the lunch special #1, which includes two slices of pizza, a salad, and a drink, also for eight dollars. Once again, it was decent, but not my favorite. Mainly, I didn't care for the sweet pizza sauce, and the crust wasn't real appealing to me either. I would certainly eat it again, but it just wasn't something I would go out of my way to order, but if I was in the area, I would probably stop back (this location is very convenient to South Park). Lastly, as a pinball fan, I was a little disappointed in the Batman pinball machine here in the party room. It is an older model, but it's not in the greatest playing condition. I had balls get stuck a few times, and had to shake them loose. Also, some of the scoring mechanisms were broken, but at least I still enjoyed playing a game. Long story short, I'd come back here again some time and give them another chance, and/or maybe try some of the other menu items (and I do give kudos for good, quick service, and very friendly employees) ... My wife and I discovered Dante's about six months ago. It was comparable almost identical to Fiori's pizza. It was convenient and local so we started to go there as our "go to pizza place". We attempted to order one night a half white and half red sauce, pizza. To some people it's unusual, but so is fruit on a pizza (pineapple). We understand that the sauces will touch and bleed over, but we don't have a problem with it which we clearly explained. Back story: I've been ordering this pizza for several years. Harry's pizza in the South Hills makes it, Fiori's makes it, Luciano's Bethel Park, Luciano's cranberry, Luciano North Hills, Lorenzo's, Mineo's etc. the list goes on. Everybody that I know has no problem applying white sauce on the left and red sauce on the right. Is it really that difficult and that big of A deal Dante to have white sauce on the left and red sauce on the right? I spoke with a manager at Dante's (not sure who it was) when I ordered this pizza. He came off with a very condescending, sarcastic cocky attitude from the get go. His response to me was, " yes, I know how to make this and this can be made, but we don't do that here". Where is the customer service at? Is it really that difficult to put white sauce on the left and red sauce on the right? This now becomes the principal of the matter, and the question of, do they actually value customer service at all? Very disappointed, and this is unfortunate. read more

I really like Donte's pizza crust. I'm not so sure I like the sweet sauce they use. Their prices are a bit high, but their large pizza seems bigger than average. I had a hard time finding their store recently because it was dark and, for some reason, they didn't have a lighted sign. We used the take out service which was efficient. Pizza is very good. Probably in my top 5. I've read or have been told that they have some connection to Fiori's . I don't know if that's true but there are similarities with the sauce and cheese blend. I've been there 20 + times over the years. I want to give them a 5 star rating but the place is dirty. Food on the floor and table is to be expected; but wiping a table with a wet napkin or wet wipe and having it turn black is a problem. Donte's is our favorite pizza place. We've been eating here since it opened 8 years. It's owned by a couple who know how to please their customers. They have pizza, wings, hoagies, and pasta. Out of everything they have available my favorite thing is their cheese pizza. You know it's good pizza if you don't need toppings to bring the flavor. When I do get toppings one of my favorite is meatball. The meatballs are handmade. Yum! They have daily specials-several to choose from and they are all good. They have a Sunday special that includes a large cheese pizza, a dozen wings, their own version if bread sticks with 2 dipping sauces, and a 2 liter of soda for $24!!! We come here after church a lot to take advantage of the special The have a couple of pinball machines, an air hockey table and TV's that are tuned in to sports. Great food! Get some! read more

Honestly, I'm not sure if I like the pizza or not. I'll say that it wasn't bad, it was different. Upon arrival, the staff helped me with a menu and my questions. They were efficient and my pizza was delivered to my table in a reasonable amount of time. When I saw the pizza, I was excited. It looked great, very homemade type of crust. After eating a piece, I felt it needed more spices and had an overly crunchy crust. After adding pepper flakes and parmesan cheese it was pretty okay. My daughter ordered rigatoni and she loved it. For the longest time, Donte's was my favorite pizza place. I have since found a new favorite, HOWEVER, Donte's is still top 3. It's absolutely delish. The sauce is a little sweet, the cheese is so delicious and melty and their crust is one of my favorites EVER- it's thick and puffy, but has a nice crunch. So good. The service is always great, and the food is ALWAYS good. Their wedgies are really good and so are their fries with their special seasoning salt! Donte's is great for take-out, but also for dining in! Especially if you have children with you- the back room has a decent amount of arcade games and their is a section with chalk. My little cousin's always had fun in that back room and it made waiting for your pizza not so bad. I love this place. read more

I live in NY and every time I come to Pittsburgh I have to stop and get the best pizza. The blend of cheese and the sauce is the best I've ever had. If you are looking for cheap pizza this isn't the place. You have to pay for quality! Dontes could up prices and I would still pay. My wife and kids always have me bring home the pepperoni minis so that they can get their Dontes fill. I've heard this place was comparable to Fioris. I agree, I think it surpasses Fioris. I used to go to the Fioris on Capital Ave but lately have been deterred from there due to the decline in quality. This pizza is delicious. Everything is homemade, the restaurant is clean, sauce is sweet however now over sugared like some sauces in Pittsburgh. If you're looking for somewhere new to try some za I'd suggest heading here getting a plain cheese (with cold cheese on the side if you're feeling froggy, everyone needs their calcium anyways). read more

I was SO sad when I moved from the South Side area to South Park because of the lack of local pizza delivery options! Then I discovered Donte's. Although they don't deliver (please consider!) it is well worth the effort to pick up. The deep dish pizza is incredible. It reminds me of a smaller version of Vincent's Pizza Park, with more cheese. It looks small, but it's very dense and filling! As far as the interior goes, my fiance usually does the picking up so I have only seen the it once and didn't pay much attention, but it looked clean and nice. Nothing fancy, but who wants to eat at a fancy pizza joint anyway? If you get the "Italian Style" pizza (chunky tomato sauce and uncooked shredded cheese on top- kind of like a round Beto's,) I highly recommend eating it there so the cheese doesn't melt. We scheduled my daughters 1st bday party here without really knowing the place. I must say not only was the pizza great, the staff is equally as great. Anything we needed they were more than accommodating and routinely checked on us. The party room was perfect for a smaller group...I believe we had 29-30 total. Anything over that would be pushing it. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more
