I wish I could say it was just as good the second time around. But it was disappointing. The price was higher from the last time we ordered, even though we got a smaller pizza. It was actually more expensive by $3. Idek how that happens. And the pizza did not have the same quality to it as before. It tasted dry and kinda dull. Like whoever made it didn't really care. Completely different from the first time. The most disappointing part was that we asked for mild wings and were given chicken tenders. If someone says mild wings, and you confuse them by asking if they want sauce, and they say just the mild wings....that doesn't mean you give them plain chicken tenders. If you're really unsure what they mean you should clarify, not just say whatever and give them plain chicken tenders. I just found it to be rude, both the action and the conversational tone. After this experience it's hard to know if it'll be good or bad next time, we probably won't come back. The service and price is off putting enough all on its own. read more

The pizza is delicious (I ordered the buffalo ranch pizza), and the guys who run the place were incredibly kind and helpful. This is a great little pizza shop! They definitely have super high quality ingredients and have been a staple in the local community (over 30 years, and I believe the oldest in Aspinwall). The local area is also nice to walk through. Today, I tried out the plain cheese calzone. This was a fantastic calzone. The size was pretty good for a regular and the price wasn't too expensive ($13). But, it was more so the quality that stood out. The dough is quite tasty, and there is a good balance of dough to cheese in the calzone. I like how much butter and parm they put on top of and around the calzone. The cheese inside was also very good. This is quite heavy on ricotta, which I enjoy. Definitely high quality and creamy ricotta cheese. Only down side of the calzone was the sauce. It was served in a somewhat small dipping cu and it was quite watery (no tomato chunks, but that's a personal preference). I must also add: the employee on the phone was one of the nicest employees I've interacted with in a long time. Very friendly, doesn't upsell, answers all questions clearly, A+ for that guy. All in all, a great place to get pizza I'm sure and definitely a great calzone spot. Keep in mind there are no desserts though. read more

The best pizza in the Fox Chapel Area. Don't let the small storefront off the main drag fool you - the family that runs this makes incredible pies and are good thoughtful people. Their specialty ones are stellar but also make really solid basics the kids in my life will eat - that I can also enjoy! Always transparent on timing when there's a line. The salads are also delicious and they sell pop bottles to go. Expect to see regulars if you pick up on a weeknight and call your order in early on Halloween as they're in a trick or treat hot spot. Their hours are good - from what I've experienced for holidays they only really close for Mother's Day. Seating wise they only have a few outdoor high tops so plan to take it home or to one of the nearby parks. Hint - if you come from the main borough parking lot there's a tunnel that leads right to the restaurant...it always smells good and since it's next to the fire department you can check out the trucks in their window. read more

Pizza is delicious, not greasy and fresh (it's the only take out pizza my moms will get). The chicken BLT salad is my favorite, chicken is hot, lettuce is fresh, fries are crispy. No the best pizza I've had in Pittsburgh but I do appreciate that they have a whole pizza category for ranch pizza so naturally that's what I got. I went with the Honey Mustard Chicken pizza. I really liked the flavor on it. It was super cheesy though which isn't my favorite. The prices are unbeatable though, I will say that. For a medium specialty pizza it's only around $14. Everywhere else you're paying at least $20. I'm glad I tried it but I don't think I'll be back because it just wasn't quite "wow." It's such a tiny little shop. I'm not sure they even have a dining area. I could see where this might be a neighborhood favorite but it's just not worth it to me to drive all the way to Aspinwall for again. read more

3.5 stars. Not the best pizza but good. I prefer Caliente. Parking always dicey in Aspinwall and this place has no lot. No place to dine in either. Super friendly staff and legit kitchen atmosphere. Extra marinara was still fairly dry but good flavor. Other ingredients reasonably good and fairly plentiful if not over abundant. Zucchini planks recommended by another reviewer were almost all breading and so disappointed. With Caliente right nearby I may not be back. read more

I wasn't moved by my pizza. It was gluten free and "organic", but something was missing. I would return out of curiosity. I can't say that I'd brag about this place yet. The customer service was good though. It was a whole in the wall, yet you could tell that a lot of love was put into their brand. We shall try again. read more

This place is gold. I'm a big, big fan of contributing to the Yelp community, but I'll be honest, Casa del Sole almost gave me a reason to hold back - im too worried that lots of awesome reviews will make it hard to get a scrumptious pizza of theirs on those Friday nights where it's the only thing you really want. This is a tiny operation, tucked off the beaten path - its carry out or delivery for the most part, although in the Summer, they do seem to have a table or two set outside for you to plop down and ravage your pizza if you just can't make it home in time. The owners are super friendly, and very efficient. Once, there was a mixup with my order, and they threw in a side of fried zucchini on the house - good move. Now, we also get that every time we order a pizza; it's extremely addictive! Do yourself a favor and try them out - it's great to support a local business, especially when these guys do such an amazing job at hooking you up with great comfort food! read more

We stopped by Casa a few weeks back - and we're still thinking about it (and ordering again). We got the Buffalo Chicken Ranch Pizza - and it was perfection. The crust is flavorful, texture and thickness is spot on. Buffalo had a little kick - and always a win when you put fries on a pizza. We also ordered The Godfather hoagie - and YUM. Yes, they deliver, and love movies, Pittsburgh sports, and local artists. "Casa" is a tiny neighborhood pizza shop located near the firehall. I worked there in 1996 and possibly a few other years off and on. My third pizza cook job, it was owned by Bobby Cozza who raised 4 daughters and little Luigi off the profits. Founded in 1978, when Bobby quit the plumbing business (though he continued to do a little plumbing work here and there for years after) eventually he and his business partner went separate ways. Bobby ran the shop through the 90s and finally he retired and sold it to the current owners, the Lombardi family. Bobby, whose family hailed from Calabria, made a signature Calabrese white pizza, which is still offered there today: olive oil, spinach, feta and artichoke. Casa's new owners were loyal to Bobby's vision and experience. They used chefs at the neighboring tavern who dissected and then managed to recreate Bobby's unique take on classic Italian Dressing, which has impressed my friends as far away as the Big Apple. Tried Casa del Sole for the first time tonight, and so glad we did. We got the Calabrese with artichokes and roasted red peppers and it was excellent. Well-balanced, ample toppings on a crust that was perfection, both crispy and chewy, with good flavor. The price was quite reasonable and the staff very nice. We'll definitely be back. read more

Went there for the first time band pizza was good. What gets me upset is I ordered multiple pizzas and salads and used a credit card that they added a fee on. I didn't say anything and still added a tip. I have tried the PGH legends Aiello's and Mineo's and they are both very good, but not the best. Casa is. That being said, I have to say pizza is the one area of food that people seem to disagree on most. Nowhere else will you find a bunch 5's mixed in with some 1's from the same place. All I can say is it is definitely worth trying at least once. The menu is much more extensive than impression you get from the sign when you first walk in, so ask to see a menu. They have sandwiches and specialty pizzas, but I have yet to get past the pizza. It is strictly take out. Also 1st Street is a one way street. On Freeport, go north at the light at Brilliant, go 2 blocks, and then left/west on 1st. read more

Growing up in Aspinwall, I've long been a fan of Casa Del Sole. The pizzas - regular and specialty - are always loaded with toppings and piping hot. My favorites at Casa are the steak sub and the meatball sub. Both the pizza crust and hoagie bun bread is delicious. The prices are great and food comes out fast. I would take Casa Del Sole over Vocelli's or another chain any day! read more

I can't imagine anyone liking this super bland cardboard! I just don't get how anyone could like it? No taste at all. We got two pizzas. One with pepperoni and one with sausage. Both had no flavor and the crust was chewy and lousy. No sauce much and cheap cheese. How a place like this stays in business is beyond me, but only in Pittsburgh I guess. We ordered a large pizza which was about $13, and were surprised at how small it was when we picked it up. It was a 10 cut, although it was more like an 8 cut with two tiny extra pieces. For the second time this year, I used Casa Del Sole for catering sandwiches for a small event. I can't stress enough that this take-out place is a unique alternative to the chains that people usually go to for catered sandwiches. Casa Del Sole uses homemade foccacia bread and creates excellent sandwiches. At both events where I used their sandwiches there were many, many good comments. read more
