We always have a great experience here- staff are always friendly, and the pizza is great! Definitely try the Pepperoni Palooza! Also their fried zucchini is super yummy! I'm not a beer drinker, but they have a respectable variety of beers as well. The restaurant is clean, cozy, with multiple TVs and is a great place to catch a Pens or Steelers game. My boyfriend ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza and there were mushrooms all mixed in.... we did not ask for mushrooms. Also whoever answered the phone was very rude and hung up on me. I only called to see if they were open because it's labor day and wasn't sure if there hours were any different. Ordered 2 pizzas, fries, a hoagie, and 10 wings. Girlfriend went to pick it up on her way home from work, and gave a shortened version of my name as well as the order and was told it's not there I must've made a mistake. Pizza was okay, fries were okay, hoagie and wings were great though. After waiting for 10 minutes and validating that I did indeed order from this caliente the guy up front said they have the order. Repeated the order he was told 10 minutes ago, and sent us off. Paying this much for mid pizza with an attitude is a subpar experience. Plus one star for the wings and hoagie. read more

I thought the food was quite good but also expensive for a pizza joint. There are other places nearby that offer a similar quantity and quality of food that are less expensive. In either case, I tried the cinnamon donut balls with the raspberry sauce and the spinach feta rolls. The spinach feta rolls were more like spinach rolls with tiny bits of feta here and there. Don't get me wrong, spinach is great, and they seemed to be using decently high quality spinach...but I was hoping for more feta flavor. The size was adequate but not huge as some others described. They are brushed with a nice cheesy dusting. The marinara sauce was tasty and had real tomato chunks. The cinnamon donut balls were very good. They are coated in more than ample amounts of sweet cinnamon, and I really enjoyed them. The portion is great for the rice. I also really enjoyed the fruity raspberry side, although it was somewhat syrupy. Cooked well and delicious as a dessert. All in all, I enjoyed my meal, but I wouldn't say it's the best pizza place in Pittsburgh or anything of that sort. Their pizza and calzones are far more expensive than in other places. Quality is pretty high, though, and I would definitely recommend the cinnamon donut balls for a treat. read more

I'm sorry to do this, but this was the worst pizza delivery I've experienced in quite awhile and I can't go more than 2 stars. I should start by saying the employee on the phone and the delivery driver were very friendly. That said, our pizza arrived cold and it was severely overcooked. Trying to reheat at home couldn't salvage it as the crust was rock hard and there was hardly any sauce on the pie. This was supposedly New York style but it should have never left the restaurant like this, and it certainly should not arrive cold 2 miles down the road. read more

I've been a fan of Caliente for years - originally the Bloomfield location but more recently the one in Aspinwall since I've been spending more time in the area. Most recently, I tried a few new-to-me items including the Velma vegan pizza and the pierogies. I was really excited the first time I saw the Velma on the menu and it was great. But the pierogies? They were INCREDIBLE. I don't know what it is about them but they are some of the best ones I've had in the city (and that's saying something). Highly recommend adding those to your order! read more

I came here with my family on a Monday evening. The place wasn't busy, which was good. The tables were spaced out and the staff were wearing masks. So a very COVID friendly restaurant. We ordered The Brooklyn pizza as well as their fried Pierogies (a must if you're in the Pittsburgh area). And WOWWW!!!! Ok, for the Pierogies, you get 6! So if you order them for appetizers, if you're a party of 3 or less, one serving will be good! 4 or more, you might want to order 2! Now for the pizza, that thing is HUGE!!! It's an 8 slice pizza, but the slices are about the size of your head. The pepperoni is nice and crisp, exactly how I like it! It also arrived relatively quick. Probably had to wait for food for less than 20 minutes. Only negative about the pizza: it was very, very greasy. So if you don't like a lil but of grease on your pizza, this particular one might not be the pizza for you! Overall, the prices seemed to be a bit high for a typical pizza joint. However, the quality and quantity of the meal definitely justifies it. I would definitely recommend this place to those that are in the area or who are visiting. read more

I have ordered 2 pizzas from them. The first was a large Godzilla for $28. The pizza had 4 pieces of green pepper on the entire pizza and a "few" mushrooms. It did have way to many Black Olives which changed the taste of the entire pizza. The second was the 8 Mile pepperoni for $29. The pizza was so dry I had to go back and get extra sauce to dip my pizza in. I was charged for the extra sauce. I am not sure why they get such good press. My wife brought home "Spaceballs" for a Saturday evening dinner and just like the movie, the pizza was a 4/5 star (superb but not legendary)! The con: the pizza itself was a little bit on the dryer side. Could have used a little bit more sauce and very minor. The pro: The flavor was really good. I love some fresh ricotta on pizza as well as the sweetie drop bursts of flavors and some spices and herbs which really enhanced the flavor. They have some decent specials listed and interesting pizzas. I have heard good things about Caliente's and have been wanting to try it for a while. The pizza is award winning. The pictures I had seen on Facebook definitely looked good and tempted me. I have been to the Bloomfield location twice, but hadn't tried the food. Both times were popping in for a particular beer they had on draft. The bartender we had was great. Caliente has been advertising all week on Facebook a special for National Pizza Day. We decided it was finally time to give it a shot. We both felt like staying in, watching the game and relaxing. Takeout it was. Granted, I may have had bad luck, but Caliente's may need to train their employees better and make sure they are informed of the regular menu and any specials being advertised. I said I wanted to do the National Pizza Day deal which was a $9 two topping medium. He asked me what special and didn't know what I was talking about. Employees should know, especially when a deal is being promoted a lot. I asked him if it was possible to do one premium topping instead of two regular toppings. He seemed very confused and questioned what I meant by premium toppings. This is right on their menu, not something I'm making up. I'm missing the confusing part. He never really figured it out. He just asked what I wanted on my pizza. He let me know there was a $9.99 one topping medium special. I again asked about the $9 special and he said oh there it is. When he rang the pizza with spinach it jumped the price way up so obviously a premium topping was a no go. I decided to go with something else. He ended up ringing me up for the $9.99 deal. It's only $.99, but it's the principal of it. In the end, there is NO WAY it should be this complicated to order a pizza. We arrived to pick up the pizza and the place definitely seemed busy. The bartender took a few drink orders and then asked our name for the pickup order and brought the pizza out a minute later. We took it home and dug in. Disappointing. The pizza wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. It's supposed to be award winning. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way for it. I was disappointed to say the least. It would have been easier to order elsewhere and probably would have been better. I was so excited to see they were opening in Monroeville. That's the area where I tend to do happy hour and it would be nice to have another option. Caliente's does tend to have pretty great beer lists. I will probably give them one more shot once the new location opens but until then I really don't know what the fuss is about. read more

We really like Caliente's pizza. We have been to two other ones around the city. This was our first time here. First of all parking wasn't too bad. There was a parking lot across the street but we got here on a Sunday late afternoon and got street parking. We walked in and it wasn't too busy. So we went to the bar. Football was on so we got good seats. The bartender greeted us and we got drinks right away. I think this Caliente's is our favorite one. The atmosphere was good and I like the bar and eating areas a lot better than the other ones that we have been too. We usually get the vegan pizza and this pizza was better than the other restaurants too. They put the vegan pepperoni under the cheese which helped it not get too crispy and burned. That was my one compliant at the other ones. It was too crispy and burned. I don't know if they always do that here but I will request it next time. Overall we really like this restaurant and the staff was pleasant. We will be back to try this one again very soon. read more

Based on a recommendation, we ordered Spaceballs the Pizza - Red sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, provolone, Parmesan, meatballs, basil & sweetie drops. It was absolutely delicious! The flavors melded together perfectly on a fairly thin yet slightly crispy outer crust. Since having this pizza, we have had a pepperoni pizza from here that was above and beyond ordinary pepperoni. I ordered the "award winning" $32 duck pizza, it sounded intriguing and I like to support local businesses. I was told the pizza was deep dish, that sounded great to me. What arrived was a warm, soggy, flat bread similar to focaccia with oily cheese, an abundance of arugula and about 1 piece of duck per square. A decent place in Aspinwall. Caliente came in pretty clutch for a weekday lunch when a lot of the other nearby restaurants were closed for whatever reason. The staff was friendly and service was pretty good. Their draft list was pretty impressive. I had the Thai Chicken salad which was good. Someone I was with had a white pizza, it was excellent. Well let me say I really was looking forward to this pizza and boy was I disappointed. We ordered a margarita pizza and I'm not sure they know what that is, there was little dots of mozzarella barely visible and lots of sauce didn't see any basil. To me it's no better then any chain store pizza. I live in Natrona heights and was looking for a good pizza closer to home, I am still in search of one because this one isn't it.
