Their food id delicious!! I never had an issue with their service even though they are always busy.

As with all reviews, they are based on personal experiences. My first visit to this restaurant was 'okay' at best. 1. Had a reservation and we didn't get seated for well over 30 minutes. Part of this was the previous party wouldn't leave. 2. Waited at the bar and took a long time to get a drink 3. Waitress took our orders nicely and when food came out, 2 didn't their meals and took another 15 minutes one and 25 for the other. 4. Everyone seemed happy with their dinners, but my pasta preference is to be cooked al dente so by the time I get it, it's cooked all the way. Mine was a bit mushy. 5. We had separate checks and some were charged for items someone else ordered. All this being said, I will more than likely visit again since the pizza looked absolutely delicious. Gelato was flavorful and there was a nice variety plus they have a couple freezers full of pints. (And I took a few ) Decor and ambiance of the restaurant was nice. I've been here several times in the past but usually default to the shadyside location as it's significantly closer to me. On this occasion, though, I came as part of my journey on the Pittsburgh Pizza Passport, which is valid only at this location. They don't do slices here so I got the treat of a whole four-slice pie! I had the choice of the Margherita or Bianca and decided to go with the white pizza as a change from what I'm getting as many of the other pizzerias. It's really a perfect white pie. They cook these in their woodfired oven, the crust is super thin and baked very quickly at high heat, and it is simply just what a Neapolitan pizza should be. It's topped with tomatoes and basil as I feel a white pizza should be, it was sufficiently garlicky, but my favorite white pizza place really loads theirs up with a little more and I wouldn't have minded more here. Also of note is that I'm told they make excellent gluten-free pizza here by at least two friends who are GF. You can't come to Mercurio's without talking about the gelato. There are so many flavors it's impossible to choose. You go up to the gelato counter yourself and make your choice, and tell them which table you are at so it gets added to your bill. I went with simple stracciatella which is perfection. The service here was also excellent. It was lunchtime so not yet too crowded, I was given my choice of wherever I wanted to sit and the server immediately came over to make sure the table was wiped down and supplied me with a full bottle of water to pour, and checked in on me frequently to make sure I didn't need anything. Attentive but not obtrusive. The gelato counter was staffed with another employee and the pizza chef was working the oven. I like how you can watch the pizza being made out in the open here, it makes for a cool ambience and the oven and the process deserve it. read more

I genuinely don't understand why so many people rave about this place. Many people talk about the pizza, but it is so thin that it falls apart after the first bite, and the toppings themselves don't have much flavor. (And unless you like prosciutto, half the pizzas aren't an option.) Others have said that there isn't much sauce on the pizza - perhaps this is because the integrity of the pizzas is too weak to handle much sauce, and perhaps it's because the sauce itself isn't something to highlight. When I got the chicken parm, the sauce tasted like a can of tomato puree with some sugar in it, and the chicken wasn't seasoned. The gelato was okay, but the tiramisu gelato wasn't nearly as good as the tiramisu ice cream at Bruster's I got the previous day. The service was also fine - like others, I felt that they didn't check in on you very much (e.g., we ran out of water and never got refilled). So, people who say the food is delicious: Why? Is it just the classic equation, cheese = good? Is it the idea that if the crust is burnt, then it must be "fancy" pizza? I try this place now and then, just to see if there's something I missed last time, but Mercurio's has been consistently "mid" for years. Why do people love it? read more

When you ask a server for plates and they wander around ten feet away and don't, that's a training issue. Brings one plate. The salad we ordered was missing prosciutto. Came with pizza passport for a slice. First time here. Ordered a margarita slice which ended up being a 4 cut. Takeout server was great! While waiting for it to be made fresh, they had a wide variety of gelato for good value by the ounce. Really enjoyed the tiramisu one! The pizza was solid...had a firey char note on the crust but surprisingly no actual black char marks which was impressive. Sauce solid. One of my favorite meals in a while! We stopped in on a Sunday at 3pm for a late lunch. I love that the pizza oven is near the dining room so you can watch your pizza being made. My husband and I split a caprese salad, it was one of the best I've ever had. The cheese and tomatoes were very fresh and the balsamic was delicious. We also split the Margarita pizza. The dough was incredible - light, fluffy and crispy. i really enjoyed the sauce too. I had the Reindeer Tracks gelato and it was everything I always want in one dessert! This was the weirdest experience, they offer wood fired pizzas but you are not "permitted" to change toppings. Even though they make the pizzas as they are ordered. Was told it would not be authentic. I have never eaten in a restaurant that doesn't allow the customer to order what they want. The pizza was not crisp at all, almost under cooked. We ordered 2 different pizzas, a Bianca and one that had Italian sausage and mushroom. The Bianca had raw garlic, gross! The service was mediocre at best. read more

This Mercurio's restaurant is owned by the Mercurio family and is their second location (their first location is in the Shadyside neighborhood). This restaurant is casual but serves high-quality Italian foods. The menu lists appetizers (e.g., arancina and bruschetta), paninis, pizzas, pastas, gelatos, and non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. Please see my attached photos for the pages of the menu. My husband and I ate lunch here on a Saturday. As soon as we entered the restaurant, an employee kindly asked us if we wanted to get takeout or to dine in the restaurant or patio. She seated us at a spacious, clean, and comfortable table. Soon our friendly waitress arrived. I told her that this visit was our first, and she explained the menu to us. After she took our order, she brought out our beverages and foods in a timely manner. Here are my reviews for what we ordered: Melanzana panini - 4 stars - The two slices of bread were nicely crispy. Inside were fresh eggplant, portobello mushrooms, red peppers, tomato sauce, and ricotta cheese. Funghi pizza with prosciutto - 5 stars - This pizza was a HIGH quality! It is definitely superior to most other restaurants' pizzas. The crust was baked well, and the toppings of mushrooms, prosciutto (my husband's add-on), tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese tasted delicious. Peachy keen hard milkshake - 4 stars - This milkshake had a strong flavor of vodka and not much flavor of peach gelato, but it still tasted good. Before I departed the restaurant, I snuck a quick peek at the gelatos. I saw nearly a couple dozen flavors that looked yummy. I saw on this restaurant's website that they sell 2-hour classes for groups of people to learn how to make Neapolitan pizza. The pizzas are really good that's not the issue but the service was terrible. We usually go to the Shadyside location but decided to try the Fox Chapel one instead. Never had an issue before. We get there with our reservation, the restaurant is not busy at all (12 people in there half already eating). It took us 1 hour to get our pizzas! No one checked in on us, offered bread while we were waiting. My kid was almost crying he was so hungry. I feel bad writing a mediocre review because the food is really good but I do hope they address the service at that location. Very disappointed and will stick to the Shadyside location. read more

We were finally able to stop in here after having this pizza place on our list for quite some time. Luckily it wasn't too busy and allowed for us to snap some good pictures of that cool pizza oven. Start off with a boozy shake, and wow they definitely don't skimp on the booziness part of it. We also ordered the Arincina and the burrata and prosciutto. The Arancina was decent, but only because the burrata and prosciutto stole the show of the appetizers. The burrata was very creamy and the prosciutto was also very tasty with the accompaniments they provided. The pizza here is extremely good, it gave me flashbacks to some of the NY pies I had when I lived there. Its a thin style crust with excellent choices and quality in toppings. We ordered a pizza del re and a porchetta. The pizza Del Re was exquisite, combining truffle oil with more savoriness of the prosciutto and mozarella is my favorite combination ever. I had dinner at Mercurio's in November and everything was so good. On a Sunday night, it was casual and pretty empty around 5:30, but the restaurant filled up by the time we left. We ordered the bruschetta and frittelle marinara parm as appetizers and both were delicious - huge portion of the frittelle! The margherita con bufala was amazing. Their pizza is very thin and so fresh and flavorful. I'm not typically a fan of ice cream/gelato but also tried the salted caramel gelato which definitely loves up to the hype! This was such a pleasant surprise! We went to Mercurio's in Shadyside for years for pizza and gelato. I've picked up takeout pizza from this location once before, but never dined in. My parents raved about it now that they live close by and we went for dinner while I was visiting. We were greeted right away and the restaurant was fairly busy for a Thursday evening. I was glad to see they have Collefrisio wine on the menu. I ordered us a bottle of Vignaquadra (sp?) since I know I love that wine. We started with the rustica salad and the burrata. Both were amazing, but I especially loved the burrata. The olive oil on the bread and salad was amazing. The restaurant is comfortable and service was great. We shared the orecchiette pasta was awesome and perfect for sharing. I picked the funghi pizza and it was great. I love their sauce!! Next time I'll ask for extra sauce to dip the crust in. This was a great dinner! Next time we will save room for gelato. There is parking on site and the restaurant has way more seats than the Shadyside location. 10/10 recommend! read more

And please save room for dessert. They have a walk up section of gelato with about 20 choices of gelato. You let them know your table and choice of gelato, and they serve it up to you as you wait. We had the Margherita pizza and the Margherita con buffalo. The crust was good, but very thin. The homemade mozzarella cheese and buffalo cheese had an awful smell. It was really repulsive. There was very little sauce on the pizzas. We will not go back. read more

We made a reservation here for 6:45 on a Thursday night. We probably didn't need the reservation, but I'm glad we made it just in case. The pizzas look just like the ones in Naples and I was super excited. Service was very good. We didn't wait long for anything. We started with a half bottle of wine, then we each ordered a pizza. There were 3 of us and we each got a different pizza to share (margherita con bufala, lasagna, and prosciutto. They were all good - kind bland on the flavor of the sauce though. It was a step up from most pizza places though. After dinner, we got gelato. They have a gelato shop right in the restaurant with lots of options. You can choose how full you want your cup since they charge by weight. Overall, I was a little disappointed because I built it up in my head to be amazing, but it was still good. I don't know if I would crave this pizza or go out of my way to go here again, but I would choose it over other places in the area. read more

Came here on a Friday night with a reservation and they had our table ready upon arrival! Their pizza here is top notch. I feel like most pizza places in Pittsburgh are more American style with a bready crust, overly cheesy (imo) and often buffalo. I was really excited to have some neopolitano style pizza and this scratched that itch and more! This review is for an early lunch for two at the bar on a Friday while we were roadtripping through Pennsylvania. service: Elena was our server and she was great. She may have been covering the whole place for this lunch, but she did a fantastic job. bar: For a pizza and ice cream place, this bar is great. I drank an Acclamation Brewing Hoppy Little Beer ($6) and thought it was awesome. Handful of Italian-esque cocktails and nice selection of wine. In addition the Hoppy Little Beer, they had the Peroni, Yuengling, and the usual U.S. beers. food: The Insalata Della Casa ($8) is great. The bread on the side appeared to be an afterthought, with a splash of olive oil? The Romana pizza ($15) was perfectly cooked. Charred in places, doughy in places, and simply amazing. The "cooked Italian ham" didn't bring anything special to the party. We'd probably order Margherita next time. This is the real deal, pizza napoletana from a wood fired oven. Details: Large surface lot outside with plenty of parking. Although we're not gelato or ice cream people, the selections looked pretty amazing. Have been wanting to try here for some time now. Finally got the chance to do so today. Wait staff is limited. Understandably right now lots of positions open and hard to find workers. However even with extra grace and patience customer service should still be a priority. I'm just glad our server was able to leave the gym long enough to work today. The server complained when I asked for a second menu that they have a "sharing" policy because of sanitizing. I wiped my menu off with a hand sanitizer wipe after I looked at it to "share" and let me tell you it was completely black... Eww Did not have a QR code to take a picture to see menu on phone. Lots of places are adding that and it's a super helpful method! Their menu had Coke Zero listed. That was incorrect. They don't actually have Coke Zero but Diet Coke. The server said it tastes the same... When I said they don't she spent 3 minutes arguing with me about the sodium level being the only difference. They don't taste the same and aren't made with the same ingredients one tastes highly of Aspartame and Zero doesn't. Instead of dealing with the continued attitude I stuck with water. The food came relatively quickly which was nice. The Beef ragu in pasta selection is tasty, but a bit spicy. So be aware that you may end up needing to douse your thirst more with this selection than others lol. This is my 1st time here & just may be my last. Wasn't impressed overall and the attitude really pushed it over the edge. I'll update if we do come back again. read more

This was my first time at this Mercurio's location. I usually go to the other one on Walnut street and it's always so packed so I decided to try this one. They have a huge parking lot and the place was empty! We were the only people in the restaurant. The service was great and we got to sit outside on their cute porch. I got one of my favorite pizza's, Pizza della casa and it was great as usual! One thing they do that I love is offer a half carafe of wine for when you know you want more than one glass but not quit the full bottle. More people should definitely start coming to this low key location. read more

We had to wait an hour to be seated and never received the text when our table was ready. I had to go in to check and it seemed our table had been ready a while before. We then had to wait over another hour to even get our food. People who ordered after us (both party of 2) got their food a half hour before we got ours. Neither server never even apologized to us for the wait or anything and they knew we were upset. We saw our server twice the whole meal. The pizza was so thin, no flavor, and tasted burnt. Four of us stopped in on Sunday for a mid-afternoon bite, and the experience was good. There were not many other customers in the place, and we were seated and served quickly. Three of us had pizzas, and the fourth had spaghetti carbonara. We then had a little gelato from the bar, which was yummy. The pizza was pretty good, but the dough was a bit salty. My friends carbonara also arrived cold, so there is a little room for improvement. Overall a good lunch, and we would definitely give them another try when in the area. read more

I came with a large group of about 20 people, who all had a wonderful time at Mercurio's. The servers so helpfully offered to do separate checks for our convenience, which is not something that most restaurants do. This place has become our Pizza Church, and we attend weekly! Everything is delicious - we are disciples of their pizza, of course, but their salads and antipasto options are always amazing. The wood fired oven makes every pizza just right, and that dough... amazing! We also greatly appreciate their efforts to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. Their staff is masked, and they will bring your takeout order to your car as soon as you arrive. We are very happy to frequent their business, especially because they do so much to keep us all safe! If I could give zero stars I would. It's 6 pm and my husband and I just tried to sit down here for dinner. It's a Friday night so we expected a long wait time. The hostess very rudely flat out said "we won't be able to accommodate you tonight, you should have made a reservation." I've never been told something like this in my life. The people in front of us also didn't have reservations and they were given a table immediately. I will never be coming back here and I will be telling everyone I know to avoid. read more
