Had my first experience at Monroe Falafel today, and it was wonderful. We got the falafel platter with hummus and tabbouleh salad as the sides, as well as lentil soup. The food was delicious, fresh, and nutritious! I'll also note that I was helped by Lola, who was super sweet, and walked me through all the homemade dishes and their ingredients. She was so helpful and welcoming, which was very appreciated. I will definitely be ordering again. I highly suggest trying Monroe Falafel! read more

My husband and I are both of Middle Eastern descent and their food is very authentic, which is hard to come by as some restaurants tend to cater to the masses than keep traditional. Happy we found a great place when we want a taste of home but don't want to make it ourselves. read more

Royal Falafel is a terrific find. Extensive, mouth watering menu, order individually or by platter. I had the huge Vegitarian Platter. The baba ghanush was perfectly Smokey without overpowering the eggplant. Falafel was crispy on the outside but moist on the inside. Tahini was a perfect accompaniment. The Hummus was so smooth, nice chickpea flavor topped with a delicious olive oil. The bread was fresh and warm..The Fattoosh salad is a mixture of cool flavors tomato, cucumber, parsley, lettuce and a deliciously paired dressing. Lastly, the grape leaves are two bite sized, with a wonderful meld of flavors. I sampled a lot of the menu and will be back to indulge in another taste sensation. read more

Been looking for solid middle eastern food and this chick, she's got it going right gang! First off, customer service...let me begin by saying that she looks to please and you can sense her passion in her service. We told her we had never been there and she advised on what we should order and gave us little samplings of her soup and I love to cook and I love making soup and hers were exquisite! This chicken orzo is so medicinal, you taste all of her hard work in it and and it so satisfying and hearty. Her lentil soup-wow!! Even the stud muff who is not a lentils fan greatly enjoyed this soup. Her baba ghanoush is probably my favorite of all time delicious...oh i forgot to mention about her pita chip croutons for the soup-culinary CRACK! Really, she needs to sell these as bags. Her shawarma choices are delicious and moist and so flavorful. And as for her rice, or should I say rices, choices are endless and all so good. This is a hidden gem in central Connecticut. Some of the best Mediterranean this side of... the Mediterranean. The owner is from Damascus and shows a real authentic passion for Middle Eastern food. Stopped here with the family, an hour away from our home, after going strawberry picking. But my wife would happily drag me here just for the falafel, and I would happily oblige. The hummus is creamy and delicious, some of the best I had outside of the Middle East. The falafel is phenomenal -- crunchy on the outside and warm, soft, and flavorful on the inside. OMG I had dinner here last night and can't stop thinking about it! I'm drooling and craving it as I write this review. This by far the best lamb gyro I've ever had in my life! The pita was warm and over loaded with bite size chunks of real lamb. It also had pickles in it which I've never had in a gyro before but it was awesome. The pickles gave it such a great taste. It wasn't your typical gyro loaded with lettuce tomato and onion and a little meat. This thing was huge, loaded with meat and no lettuce. But OMG the flavor was just out of this world. I ordered the lamb gyro platter which comes with your choice of two sides for $12.99 so I figured the two sides would be small scoops but no, it was two bowls that were very large for sides. My sides were hummus which was the creamiest hummus ever and some of the best I've ever had. My other side was baba and that was also very good, right up there with others I've had. Served with your two sides is warm pita bread. It was like getting an appetizer with your meal so I don't suggest ordering appetizers in addition to this. My partner ordered the falafel and hummus platter which was 5 falafel on a dish of hummus and the falafel were right up there on "best of" list. She ordered tabouleh as a side and baba. The tabouleh she said was delicious but I didn't try it. All this came to $25.00 and we couldn't even finish and we are very big eaters. We took home the hummus and baba and will have it as a snack today. She's a lover of spice so they gave her a side of some spicy sauce that she also loved, I wouldn't touch it as she said it was hot and if hot for her then I knew I couldn't handle it. So listen if you are a fan of lamb I suggest you go to this place and order the lamb gyro platter right now! Thank me later. I will never ever go any place else for my lamb gyro fix. I love Royal Falafel! I have been here several times for take out, but today I am sitting down to eat and am so happy I am. I told the server Lola that I have been sick and she recommended what to order to make me feel better. She even put lemon and ginger in my water to help me, along with some garlic sauce to go with my mujaddara. Lola sent me home with a piece of ginger to put in my water at home...She is so kind! As for the food, I prefer it to Layla's Falafel as Royal Falafel is always fresh. Layla's food is dry due to being on a burner all day. Not so with Royal. When I saw there was a new falafel place nearby I had to try it. Was so excited to walk through the door and see Mike behind the counter, Former co owner of olive tree in Milford. He not only remembered us as customers from Olive Tree but gave us falafel samples while we waited for our order. The menu is different from Olive Tree and dare I say I like it more. The food here is excellent - Only 4 stars because the ambiance is missing. So far we have had three kinds of kebabs, falafel and gyros. The baba ganoush and hummus are so yummy I will never buy my hummus in a supermarket again. I hope more people discover this place so they can survive as this location has not been great for others. A great addition to the neighborhood and a million times better than Layla's in Trumbull which is pretty mediocre. read more
