Today I had one of most amazing experience going to what I consider the BEST Puerto Rican food in Bridgeport, CT. I am biased bc I truthfully have not tried every P.R. restaurant in Bridgeport, CT. However what I love most about Coquito is there yellow arroz con condules. OMG! So flavorful and the taste of the sofrito comes through in there rice every time for me. I crave their rice. Okay enough let me get to the food we ate today. The steak was VERY tender and flavorful. Rice and beans are always cooked well. Not overcooked or undercooked. Perfect on the flavor. The bacaloa was delicious and paired WELL with the monfongo y camarones. Oh man, when we ordered it we went early to get seating and the chef said im gonna make it. She asked if we wanted it on a plate and we said yes. Oh boy the sauce ughhhh was ahmazingly garlicky and seasoned well. The cilantro notes came through. It was my 1st time having it but my fiancé 2nd and it did not disappoint. We came in for monfongo y camarones, we planned for the surf n turf, but changed it for the pepper steak with yellow rice beans. We also ordered the bacalao with yellow rice once i discovered they had it on the menu. We also ordered two beverages with coconut milk or coconut juice with coconut coquito and parcha juice with coconut coquito (co-workers recommendation). I don't know what this is called though. This is soooo refreshing. I've seen people ordered this so many times and never knew it was this amazingly delicious! The service is always good when I come here. I've been coming here since their old location and i must admit the service and food have definitely came a long way. Good ambiance. We did have to go early to avoid long lines and open availability for table and booth access to dine in as well as parking. This is a frequent P.R.restaurant I visit and so far my favorites have been the yellow rice, carne fritas, pastelios, pepper steak, and bacalao. I also tried the Jibarito which was delicious read more

This was our first time here and all the food looked fresh and delicious with constant replenishing from the busy kitchen. We tried the beef empanadas and the alcapauria and liked them both. I would love to try any of the other dishes, as all looked and smelled so good. The entire place was clean, including the restrooms. Business was constant the whole time we were there. 2 parking lots on either side for off street parking if you can find a space. read more

The food was outrageous. Plenty of parking. I thought my favorite Puerto Rican food was in Waterbury. I was wrong this place was packed at about 3:30p and it was the best I have had. Definitely will go back. I knew that with a name of "El Coquito", that it had to be good. I love coconuts and the ambiance was great. The waitresses were extremely nice and the prices were excellent for a healthy meal. Thank you for making the end of our day excellent. read more

The food is ok. A lot other options exist that is significantly better spanish food. If you're reading this, you know it's true. Service is ok, depending on the your server's attitude. Ambiance is a communal room with random cuisine region specific decor. read more

I have ordered take out from El Coquito on several occasions and they have never disappointed me. Although the parking lot is small, the restaurant itself is spacious, the staff are incredibly friendly and patient even with the line almost to the door. And the food! OMG. Delicious. The pork shoulder (pernil) is tender and juicy, the skin crispy/crunchy. The yuca and the escabeche are perfect. The arroz con gandules has great flavor. And they don't skimp on anything. Stop in here for a delicious lunch or dinner. Wepa! read more

The food here is fantastic and flavorful! It does take a hot minute for the food to come out, but believe me, it's worth your time. The rice and beans, pernil, and platanos were seasoned to perfection. Their pastelitos are a good appetizer or post dinner treat to have with the main meal. This spot even has a dessert section for ice cream and smoothies. The ice cream flavors are passion fruit and coconut. read more

This spot might be might favorite for Spanish food in bridgport so far. The food is clean and delicious. I usually try and get the peril with rice and gondules. Or the whole chicken with a side of the mojito sauce with rice and red beans. They also have a really good potato ball. Aka relleno de papa. Still some stuff i have to try here they mainly speak Spanish but that's not a bad thing for me atleast. I plan on coming back here perhaps next weekend. read more

Great authentic Puerto Rican food, friendly staff, plenty of parking, good prices. What else could you ask for. Located in the heart of Bridgeport CT's Puerto Rican community El Coquito is the #1 go to spot if your in the area and in the mood for delicious Puerto Rican food. Wide variety of meats, fried foods and dishes. I had arroz con gandules y habichuelas ( yellow rice with pigeon peas and beans) con pernil ( roasted pork). It was delicious. Warm welcoming environment with a cross section of customers from blue collar to white collar everyone was eating and everyone looked like they were enjoying their food. I went to El Coquito this Sunday to try out their ice cream, and to compare it with another spot in BPT. This review is about my experience, not about the result. El Coquito's sell more than just ice cream though. They have delicious dishes from the Island of PR, and it is a household name in the city. If you haven't you have to come and try it for yourself. There is plenty of parking, and this newly built location allows you to sit inside as well to enjoy some good food. Back to the ice cream. The portions are generous, and come in different sizes, styrofoam cups with a plastic lid. Not really good for the environment, but it stays cool. The flavor is okay, not as strong as I had hoped, and not too sweet either. It is an enjoyable treat on a hot Summer day, and you get worth for your bucks. El Coquito, worth a trip, to the Eastside of the Port! read more

El Coquito serves such delicious authentic Puertorican food! Their Fritos are mouth watering, and the service is quick, in a good portion. GREAT Puerto Rican food!! If you're anywhere near this gem. You have to stop in. Alcapurias and rellenos were fresh and tasty. The arroz con gandules was a level above the ordinary. read more

Small spot in a kind of run down area of Bridgeport that seems like it is a total hidden gem. In addition to their staples of Spanish food they also have homemade ice cream and frozen ice. They only had 3 flavors of ice cream when I came, and no cones. Indoor seating only. I got the pistachio ice cream and it was very flavorful and creamy, but it was also both kid of gummy and icey. Reminds me of NYC. Classic Puerto Rican dishes. We Went to try the pepper steak but it was sold out. We got pernil and chicken meals. Arroz con guandules was fresh as was the white rice and beans. Got the coconut ice cream which I wld definitely go back for. read more

I've been going to El Coquito since I was a little girl, back when it was a small place to pick up bomb Puerto Rican food. The food is delicious--I've tried everything from the pernil to the pollo guisado to the bistec. Everything has been well seasoned and cooked. The portion sizes are huge for a very reasonable prices. The empanadas and other cuchifritos do what they need to and to add a cherry on top they also sell their signatures fruit flavored icecream/sherbert. Just be warned that during lunch/dinner time you should be expect a line of 15-20 min read more

My new favorite Puerto Rican authentic food spot!! Food is very flavorful, inexpensive, nice staff and very clean. It's more of a cafeteria buffet style where they serve you as they do not take orders at the tables. Nonetheless, the service is OK. They have their everyday dishes such as Pernil, Carne Guisada, Arroz con Gandules, Pollo Guisado and Pollo al Horno and they rotate the meats adding selections such as Ribs, Gandinga, Chuletas to name a few and many others. I would recommend this place to take out or if you simply want a great inexpensive meal! They also cater, adding the catering menu for your reference. read more

The best food but a little salt. But amazing. The Mondogo soup was a little salty. The pasteles was amazing.

We really enjoyed the food and being able to sit down. I will make the hike to revisit in the future. Come try it.

El Coquito is the best Puerto Rican food in town. The owner is a great guy who always does so much for the community but for all the Yelpers out there the food is really good. I usually don't like to eat at Puerto Rican restaurants because the food can't get any better than home but this is possibly the closest it comes to home. The restaurant has table seating but most people come in for takeout. You never have to worry about the food being old and stale, they normally have a line waiting and they turnover the food in the warm plates quickly. They have all the frituras you would expect: alcapurrias, pastellios, relleno de papa and so on. As far as the main dishes they serve white rice and beans, arroz con gandules, carne frita, carne quisada and pollo quisado, pernil and many other things as well. Once you are done with your meal you can also have an icee which are the best in town. The restaurant is always clean and the employees are very nice. I guarantee you will always run into someone from the neighborhood there. These folks are a neighborhood institution. read more

Delicious food. Place was clean and packed, great variety. Was able to park easily. Most definitely going back.

The four stars are for their frituras and authentic coquito ice cream. These items are the best I've had outside of my own mother and grandmother. I love it all. Their empanadas. Relleno de papá. Alcapurrias. Everything in that far left window is the BOMB!!!!! I can admit I am pickier with my rice. But the meats have been delicious so far. Had their pollo Al horno and it was delicious. Carne guisa was alright too. Just haven't been won over by the rice but wow. Everything else is delicious. You MUST get a coquito ice cream at the end of your visit. Or first!!!!! Yum! read more

During my drive from Stamford to North Haven, I was hungry. I was hungry as hell. I wanted Puerto Rican food and knew Bridgeport would not let me down. I yelped and found this treasure called El Coquito and I am glad I waited in the line for almost 30 minutes because the food is not one to pass up on. I got the yellow rice, two orders of plantains and the fish and it was a large quantity for only $11.00. There's a reason the line was long because the food is worth the wait. read more
