Is this the 1970s! They use the thickest styrofoam containers I've ever seen. Even if you order a waffle cone, they put it in a giant foam cup and stuff it in so you can't eat the cone. Styrofoam is horrible for the environment and literally never disappears. I received no joy eating ice cream here. read more

Timothy's Ice Cream - Closed. It's supposed to be open, but it's closed. No hours posted. I advise you to call in advance to confirm they are open. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Black Rock, Connecticut

I like the store location. It's nice to walk by and get a treat. The ice cream was good, it's home made. The workers were efficient. They only take cash or check which is inconvenient. I think the indoor portion of the shop needs updating to make it more inviting. When I order, I've taken it to go. read more

Only because they DON'T have Frozen yogurt as advertised. But an interesting joint. I am assuming the ice cream is good and the guys at the counter were nice. read more

The ice cream is always delicious and I love the mix ins available! The store itself however hasn't been remodeled for a while, so it's not the best atmosphere where I would want to sit down in the store, but besides that the ice cream is very good. read more

Still one of the best to me! Please support your local businesses - especially those that provide REAL whipped cream. Perfect for Paleo diets - lol! Love how he gives college kids (or high school) the opportunity to work. That's so awesome. Who doesn't want to support giving back and building community? Love coming here when in Black Rock. Re: other reviewer who lived in Black Rock but didn't know it existed and thought it was unclean. First of all, what bots don't notice their surroundings? Sadly, a lot of people these days which kinda makes me moderately ok with the control system. If you're a fool, control is a positive thing. Secondly, yes, Timothy's is funky and old and mismatched and whatever. Who cares?! Dumb Milkcraft is sparkling clean and that's not a place I'm likely to return to ever again. You go to Timothy's for good old fashioned ice cream - not the pristine surroundings - and I personally appreciate the funky. The reviewer best not go to several Black Rock food places that have felines roaming inside (adding to their funky charm). :-). Oh my! read more

I just stopped by for an ice cream cone and as the young lady began making my cone, I noticed she wasn't wearing any gloves. She did not wash her hands, and there was no paper wrapped around the cone itself. I asked her if she could please wear a glove. She seemed frustrated by it and asked if it was a problem. I said yes, she said "sorry, we don't have any gloves". But she wasn't sorry... and as I left I heard her talking about me to the only other worker there. Excuse me for not wanting to pay for you to touch what I'm going to eat! I have no idea where your hands have been. It's a food establishment. At least ask your employers to "pretend" to care about cleanliness and have the basic necessities to provide professional attention to the patrons. read more

I was disappointed they didn't have more flavors to choose from. I think they had about 10 of them and 3 of the 10 had Oreo cookies in it. This neighborhood spot is cash only. Which in my opinion is really outdated. A majority of folks just don't carry cash on them as they use cards for everything. I can't imagine it would be very difficult for them to get a little card reader. Also the inside was crowded and with Covid still being a concern I was uncomfortably close to everyone else. read more

This place looks pretty run down, but they have delicious homemade ice cream and waffle cones. I got a chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone and the quality of both the cone and the ice cream were fantastic. My only complaints were that I wish their were some more chips in the chocolate chip and that the waffle cone was pretty brittle, however they did serve the cone inside of a large cup (like a drinking cup) along with a spoon, so that I could scoop up the ice cream and eat it in case the cone broke. There were not have a ton of flavors, but they had all of the basics so I can't complain too much 6/10 read more

This review would be four stars expect for one obvious challenge, the cleanliness. I've lived in the area forever and I never even knew Timothy's existed. My BF and I went here tonight and order two small ice cream cups with a few toppings for under $8 - score. Tip, this place is cash only so be prepared. While the ice cream was good, I couldn't get over how dated and unclean the overall store looked. A little scrubbing, cleaning and minor updates would take this place so far. Something for the owners to consider. read more

Ice cream was ok. Homemade which gets bonus points in my book, but I've had better. The inside definitely needs to be renovated as it was old and dirty with lots of odd furniture. I don't understand how they got 4.5 stars on Yelp unless it was mostly friends and family. read more

I wish I could TASTE THE HYPE here but in all honesty, I received some basic ice cream. My Vanilla and Chocolate mixture did not stand out with each bite and I swirled it around on my tongue for awhile in hopes to capture that rapture but nothing. Much like an anticipated kiss in hopes that you would feel a SPARK and then you pull away and all you want to do is just WALK AWAY. No love lost for the Reese's PB Mini Cups were still satisfying but let us be honest, it is an addition that can be purchased anywhere and so at an Ice Cream Parlor, you want to taste the type of rich creaminess that makes said location STAND OUT amongst the others. Who knows, perhaps I ordered the WRONG ONE but then again, how do you go left when it comes to being a Mom & Pop in the ice cream fields baby? My experience was simply........ok. read more

@Valeria P; you're just mad that Timothy's looks too much like your house. Maybe go redecorate and then maybe your husband wouldn't have left you. You're a fat cow you should probably cut down on getting ice cream so often read more

Was passing through CT on the way home to Jersey when I decided to ditch the traffic on 95 around Bridgeport. This by far was one of the better decisions I made this century. Timothy's doesn't look like much from the outside or the inside for that matter, but like my mama said, "Never judge a book by its cover." Timothy's not only makes some of the best homemade ice cream I've ever had, but they also make homemade whipped cream. Yes, you read that correctly--homemade whipped cream. I had the Oreo ice cream and it was amazing. Also tried the toasted almond and it was out of this world. Everything tasted so fresh and it's no surprise this place has been around for decades! read more

Timothy's is a local parlor supposedly known around town for their classic homemade ice cream, however it fell short for me. Went for the Black Rock ice cream which was french vanilla ice cream with chocolate covered almonds with a caramel drizzle. I wouldn't go so far to say that this place was dirty, but it definitely wasn't the cleanest of places. I attribute that to the fact that the place is old and wants to keep a classic feel, however, there a million and one ways to keep it classic while still presenting a clean atmosphere. Needless to say the place could definitely use some updating and a good old mop and broom. I will not be back. read more

Why go to Dairy Queen when you can go here for designer ice cream. Same price and far superior. Support the neighborhood small business instead of a franchise. You just can't top Tim's artisan work here, and having supported all three of his ice cream shops over the past thirty years I can say without a doubt it is my favorite. Fond memories of mine are attached to most of the flavors and it doesn't help my nostalgia when the prices are so low you'd swear it's 1995 all over again. Cash only, the way god intended. read more

Timothy's Ice Cream - Pretty much the same prices since 1988 - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Black Rock, Connecticut

This is a small family business that was started in the 60s while the owner was in college tinkering with salt, cream, sugar and a bucket. He has all his original churns and now the daughters are helping run the operation. I've, like most people, gotten used to the polished yogurt and gelato operations of today but when you get right down to it and look past the atmosphere here you're left with pure sweet enjoyment! Flavors change regularly but all ingredients are fresh and wonderful. Half dozen to dozen options and clearly nothing wrong with any of them. Just be sure to bring cash or a check as that's the only option for payment. read more

I was disappointed at Timothy's on Sunday. They had been open for an hour but the hot fudge wasn't ready. The caramel syrup had to be put in the microwave. No waffle cones because they ran out on Saturday night and hadn't made any yet on Sunday. And as my guest said, it looked like the waffle pieces from Saturday night were still all over the waffle iron and counter. The ice cream was good but the overall experience...not so great. read more
