Saugatuck Sweets is an ice cream parlor and candy shop that opened in Westport, Connecticut in May 2014. It was founded by husband and wife Al and Chris DiGuido. The shop offers ice cream produced by Stamford-based supplier Longford's Ice Cream as well as locally-baked pies and cakes. The shop also features a large selection of nostalgic loose candies; customers can make their own custom goodie bags. A second location opened in Fairfield in 2016. The original Westport location closed its doors in December 2023 due to financial problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. My family and I recently visited Saugatuck Sweets for ice cream. We just had lunch next door at Firehouse Deli and thought that ice cream sounded like a good dessert idea. We really liked the interior and their selection of old school candies. After looking over the menu, I ordered a cup of "Peanut Butter Blizzard", my wife ordered a cup of "Mint Oreo Bomb", and our son ordered a cup of "Cookie Monster". We all enjoyed our choices. We had a nice experience at Saugatuck Sweets and would definitely stop there again on a future trip to the area. read more

I wanted to love this quintessential ice cream/candy shop in the heart of Fairfield and based on the crowds outside, I thought I would. Outside looks so inviting and screams "come in" but it is such a let down on the inside. Dingy, dusty, dirty and none of the candy looks fresh in the plasticcontainers. Countertops are ick, benches outside are ick and it doesn't feel clean by any means. The staff was nice and the ice cream was good- not great- my root beer float was fine. Nothing to rave about but did the job of calming my craving. I really hope that the owners clean this place up and make it the wonderfully adorable place it should be. Just moved here to Connecticut and am halfway between two Saugatuck sweets stores! Lucky me! We've only been to Fairfield so far, but, this place is the best. Local high school kids scooping takes me back to my teens.. friendly kids and skilled workers.. great service, period. So, the ice cream, and I'm an expert, is awesome.. please keep toasted almond forever.. reminds me of chasing the ice cream truck for a toasted almond bar! Too obsessed with the ice cream to look at the candy, but, I see adults stopping by to get throwback candy and leave, so, that's great too! The rude owner that runs this place needs to change his ways. He is rude and nasty to his customers and has barely any patience for them. Additionally, he has a nasty reputation for shoving his politics down other people's throats. During COVID, he yelled at customers for wearing masks in his store when there was a pandemic going on and most businesses still required them. The place is also getting dingy and miserable inside. It looks like they haven't wiped the floors in ages. Ordered a small scoop creamsicle ice cream and it was sad and miserable, on top of costing $6! I get that this is a part-non profit business, but given the quality of the place and the ice cream, it was not worth it. Skip this place if you can. 16 Handles is just down the street. read more

If you like soft serve - this is the best place in town! Not only do I live for their soft serve - but the entire store is full of sweets & chocolates. I'm talking chocolate covered gummy bears in both milk & dark chocolate. Chocolate covered caramel with sea salt in both dark & milk chocolate. Let's just say chocolate covered everything. Right now my favorite of the moment- are the milk chocolate covered pretzels and caramel with sea salt. Talk about texture. You bite into a crunch and gooey deliciousness. Every time I come to this place I think I'm in Fairfield's version of Dylan's Candy Store with the added bonus of ice cream. A major disappointment. When I ordered a sundae I was very clear with the guy serving me what flavors of ice cream I wanted. I wanted to like the ice cream at Saugatuck Sweets, I really did. After a recent visit, i'm left with the conclusion that they have priced their ice cream to be just a bit cheaper than Milkcraft. $3.50 for one tiny scoop labeled a small? $6.50 for 2 small scoops labeled as medium? The ice cream itself was average and overly rich tasting. The high cream content overwhelmed the favor of the ice cream. In my chocolate caramel crackle, it was 1000% rich chocolate drowning out the delicate caramel crackle. It was ok, but not for $3.50 in a small cup. On the positive side, they have a wide selection of unique flavors like birthday cake and cotton candy, and several varieties of oreo accented flavors. My kids like the choices. Sampling their choices confirmed the high cream forward flavor with the other flavors in the background, serving only as muted accents but with eyecatching exciting colors. The store is small, shelves full of candy, and the aisle in front of the coolers is narrow and pinched by a support column in the middle of the customer area. Thankfully, the store was lightly trafficked and service was quick and friendly by the local high school students scooping ice cream under the watchful eye of the owner. There is no indoor seating that I saw, but plenty of seating outdoors at the large tables with available umbrellas. I prefer the subtle flavors of Timothys where they make the ice cream themselves. The sticker shock coupled with the extreme richness did not make for a completely satisfying experience. read more

Dirty! Dirty Dirty! Went upstairs to eat ice cream at 1:30 in the afternoon and saw floor, tables and napkin dispensers not clean. Ice cream looks like it had been on tables and dispensers for weeks. Walls and stairwell had old candy and old ice cream all over. Management must be absent as they're is no attention to cleanliness. We came to this town to pick up some food and decided to drop by this place to pick up some dessert for home since our state was still on lockdown. I was indecisive when it came to choosing flavors so I got a medium with two scoops- one Oreo and the other salted caramel. All of the flavors look and sound appetizing. However, this was a big let down. I paid $7 for bad ice cream. I don't think it's stored properly because the ice cream didn't have a distinct flavor. It just tasted like a mix of many ice creams. The gentleman who runs the ice cream shop was rude from the minute I walked in and rushed me and my family to order when no one else was in the store. He then began to yell at one of his younger employees RIGHT in front of us. Not only is that down right rude, but so uncomfortable to watch. Best black & white milkshake I've had in a long time. One guy there makes it so perfectly creamy, thick and delicious ($5.50 with soft serve). This place has a few problems. 1: The older gentlemen who runs the shop is not very helpful, giving samples, not friendly, etc. 2: The ice cream. It isn't all that great. I get it, cream, sugar, candy will come out tasting great every time, but the ice cream truly is nothing special and getting a pint of Ben&Jerry's at the store is just as good. 3:Price, sorry but $7 for 2 scoops of mediocre ice cream is not worth it in my book (hint pints of good ice cream at the store are cheaper) 4: Milkcraft. No signage to signify where line stops and ends) Product: C (long fords ice cream which is pretty good. Marshmallow topping had no taste and was more like fluff.
