The best hard rolls around! There were several people in front of us on a Sunday but our wait was maybe a minute. The staff was very friendly and did not rush us as we drooled over the cases full of treats! They have salt sticks on Sundays which was a great treat! Cheese danish is one of the best I've had.

Every time we go to Purdy Hill, we are pleased with the selection and quality. Today I purchased fruit tarts for my children and a special treat. They were fresh with a creamy custard and flakey cake bottom. Delicious! The cannolis are superb. We have never had a cheesecake from there that we didn't enjoy. The rainbow bars are my favorite thing there! The marble cheesecake is a second runner up!

Italian bread is so fresh. Macaroons melt in your mouth. Great prices. Tons of options.

This is quite a bakery. Huge selection of cookies, cakes, pastries you name it. There is also green mountain coffee available! It was my first time here. I was astounded by the variety honestly. Prices were neither very high nor very low. I bought what I needed, which in my case, was an assortment of cookies for a small group of people. But oh how I would have liked one of those delicious looking cakes! I am giving them a 3 because of a few things. First off, I almost could not find them. GPS took me wrong way. They are tough to spot if you have not been here. They are NOT in Walmart or Walgreens. Do not make the mistake I almost did, thinking they are. And the lines..the lines..Patience must be had when you come to this bakery. It was pretty slow going. It takes a long time in here so it seems. I was fine with waiting honestly because I was in awe over all the picture perfect sweets. The staff were really cool I must say. They were the best. But the cookies..they have no taste. It was pretty disapointing because everything looked great. Picture perfect. I was going to recommend them but now I don't know. I prefer Chaves Bakery honestly.

Cake with missing layers of cake and strawberries

We ordered a two layer sheet cake with fresh strawberry filling for my daughters baptism (paid $100 for the cake for 20 ppl). There was very large sections of the cake that were missing a layer of cake and strawberries. I tried to work with them for a refund and they said it was as expected. Do not recommend, terrible customer service and so overpriced!

Very disappointed in the quality & taste of the pastries I bought today! Not cheap either!! Lacking in flavor and soggy texture.

Terrible. I'm not going back again. The service took too long. The breakfast and bakery items were not good. I'd rather go to Big Y.

I'm going to be fair here and preface this with the fact that I haven't been back to this place in…read morequite some time. Nothing much has changed... it is still cash or check, which back in 2017 didn't really phase me... but I'm pretty surprised this hasn't changed. I knew the menu prices could never have been what they were nearly 7 years ago but I was surprised even when taking this into account. A chicken parm sandwich plus a peace tea (which really should be somewhere between $0.99 and $1.99) ended up at $18.35. I was totally floored. The $6 sandwich (+ toppings) has nearly tripled in price. $2 per extra topping? I really can't fathom $2 for a little bit of some topping (onions, peppers, whatever). I know things are different but it isn't like I've been under a rock for 7 years. A chicken parm grinder depending on where you go is about $8-$12. I can name 5 delis off the top of my head that can back this up. Let's get to the sandwich itself. It was bad. Way too much breading and soggy. So so soggy. This sandwich had been wrapped up for less than 10 minutes and I nearly pulled out a fork and knife to eat it. I'm so sad. I gave this place 5 stars before. I won't be returning I'm sorry to say. PS: He wasn't the nicest either. I know you don't work for free. But I do have a right to ask about the price.

Customers were coming in to pick up their meat orders. The deli area offers a variety of cold and hot sandwiches, salads, sides. Great selection. I ordered a roast beef and Swiss on a hard roll, with coleslaw and horseradish sauce. It was fantastic! The meat was flavorful and plentiful and that homemade slaw added a great little kick. They also have baked breads and goodies. I left with a sourdough bread and a choc chip cookie. There are some tables outside to eat. They also sell unwashed, unrefrigerated chicken eggs from a local farm. So great! I did buy these, but somehow they didn't make it into my bag which I did not discover until I got home, but other than that, service was super friendly and helpful. So refreshing to have quality customer service. The store is well organized, nicely decorated, and extremely clean. I recommend a stop in and I will make a point to return as soon as possible.

They make everything in-house from bacon, breakfast sausage, steak tips, and they have the best pork chops around. There are a few tables around if you want to sit and eat/drink coffee. AMBIANCE - it's a very clean and deli looking decor. DRY PRODUCTS - they have a small selection of Italian items from dried pasta to jarred sauces. Typical brands that you see in supermarkets or other Italian stores. There are a few imported from Italy brands but I'm no expert to say yea or nay PIZZA - they have at the counter a pizza station where you can a buy by the slice. They looked pretty good with a lot of variety. COFFEES - they have regular plus they make expresso, macchiatos, lattes etc. I tried the macchiato which was excellent PASTRY- they gave a few at the counter. The breakfast buns and treats. I noticed a crème pastry which I tried. It was OK but in reality the pastry part was super good but the inside crème would have been better if it was like a Boston cream filling SERVICE - definitely 5+ stars. The employees couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Very congenial with small talk. Not the usual cold QSR attitude you get from the fast food chains PRICES - I only got coffee and a pastry that was over $8. I'd say average or a little on the higher side but I didn't look at the menu on the screen too closely although it was a little difficult to see.

The Bronx Experience in Shelton If you want the soul of…read moreArthur Avenue without the trip to New York, Gaetano's Deli in Shelton is the undisputed heavyweight champion. Founders Guy and Milanno actually got their start on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx back in 1990, and they've successfully transplanted that high-energy, authentic Italian spirit right into Fairfield County. The Foundation: Arthur Avenue Bread The bread at Gaetano's is legendary. They source it directly from the Bronx, ensuring that every sandwich starts with a foundation of beautiful, crusty sesame seed bread. * The Texture: It has that signature "snap" on the outside while remaining airy and soft on the inside. * The Flavor: The toasted sesame seeds add a nutty depth that complements the salty Italian meats and tangy vinegars perfectly. The Gold Standard Chicken Cutlets Many places claim to have good cutlets, but Gaetano's cooks theirs to absolute perfection. * The "Kovac's Special": Often cited as their flagship sandwich, it features a chicken cutlet so tender and well-seasoned it stands out even when paired with heavy hitters like prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, and broccoli rabe. * Crispy & Light: The breading is never greasy; it's thin, golden, and provides the perfect crunch in every bite. Unbeatable Value and Atmosphere Despite the premium quality and the "Bronx-to-CT" logistics, the value here is incredible. You can find several of their least expensive--yet still massive--sandwiches (like the John Wayne or various parmigiana rolls) starting around $11.50 to $14.00, with many hearty heroes hovering right at that $15.00 mark. The service team is a well-oiled machine. They are fast, friendly, and carry that classic deli "swagger" that makes the atmosphere feel alive. It's loud, it's bustling, and it's unapologetically Italian.

I went for the kovac special...a hero loaded with chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, prosciutto, and sautéed broccoli rabe. I added balsamic and it really set it off. All of their food is fresh and the bread is unreal. I believe they get it daily from Arthur Ave. My wife got the Stratford & main which was just chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, balsamic and roasted peppers. Only nitpick was that we felt a little rushed to order, and maybe we would have gotten something different but you really can't go wrong with anything at this place. The shop is loaded with various Italian imported foods, but didn't see any tables to sit and eat inside, so be sure to grab & go. Highly recommend.
