The spicy rice was equally flavorful and not too spicy. It came with grilled pita that I dipped in the hummus and baba ganoush. We came for lunch 6/28 for our first visit. We sat in the dining room. We waited apx 10 minutes before anyone approached us. It became apparent the man behind the register was the cashier, waiter, cook etc, possibly the owner. He was very nice, friendly and professional. We ordered two waters and hubby got the shwarma platter with two sides and he chose spicy black beans and hummus and I ordered the greek salad. The platter was very delicious with the black spicy beans and spicy hummus being large sides and oh so tasty. The greek salad was disappointing as only iceberg lettuce with the dressing being disappointing. On a weird note, the prices on the menu are NOT what you are charged. If you eat in the dining room, you don't see the cashier until the meal is finished. There is sign at the register advising you that prices went up due to food costs, but no notice on the table or menu. We believe most of their business is takeout, so I recommend you go that route. Nice small spot that seems very authentic take in or take out. The chicken from both platters was super moist and the hummus we had was very tasty. The grape leaves on the side tastes great and made Freshly. The rice was very good too, it had lentils and lots of seasoning giving perfect flavor. Both came with 1 pita each. Rice platter has 2 side choices I chose hummus and fattoush salad. His mixed grill came with either rice or 2 sides. My one suggestion would be same option as the rice platter to have rice and sides. ATMOSPHERE 3/5: Clean. Not a date place or a place you go out with a friends for the night. I would rather leave no review than a bad one, but not in this case. I ordered & picked up a delicious Vegetarian Platter that was $13.99 online. When I returned to work I noticed that I was charged $17.99. Thinking it was an error, I called & was told that they need to update their website. They were polite & did apologize but no refund was offered. I worked 22 years in the restaurant business & that is not good practice. I had an hour to kill before a doctors appointment so I tried this place out. I got the vegetarian combo with falafel, lentils & rice, hummus, pita and fattoush. The entire thing was absolutely fantastic. The falafel was probably the best I've ever had. They were made almost in little donut shapes which gave it more surface area and more crunch. The hummus was great and the splash of olive oil on top was perfect. I ate the fattoush and the rice together and my mouth is watering as I type this. The fattoush, baba and grape leaves were great. The hummus and tabbouleh were pretty good but the falafel was greasy and hard as a rock, the pita was stale and broke into pieces and the mujadara was not good. Bland with few lentils. Food: chicken wrap was definitely better than falafel. The falafel lacked flavor and needed more tahini sauce. I'm a huge fan of maumouns in new haven so everything is compared to them. I have eaten at a few such restaurants in lower Fairfield County, and can state that Monroe Falafel has the tastiest, freshest, and most closely authentic food I have had since moving from NY in 2019. My spouse, a picky eater, also loves the food here. The portions are large; spouse had leftovers today from our eating in the restaurant yesterday. Lola, the owner, is one of the nicest, warmest, and sweetest people I have known. She is genuinely interested in you enjoying the food and the atmosphere. I've been going here for a while. It's definitely some of the better middle eastern spots around here. The hummus they have here is excellent and is what keeps me coming back. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is the place feels overpriced. $15 for a sandwich and two sides albeit of a specialty cuisine is a little steep. If the prices were lower I'd come here way more often. read more
