Monocacy Crossing, what can I say..... I am torn. Torn because I came here because the wifey's mom & dad love their fall menu & I dined on the spring menu. *Disclaimer* this was their newly (2day old) implemented spring menu.
I ordered a simple ground short rib and brisket burger with beer cheese and butter pickles, but was feeling adventurous so I also ordered the green lentils fritter with summer vegetables dish (vegetarian option). Both are pictured. The burger was unique and elevated by the homemade bread and I'm not a fan of sweet pickles but they majestically added an entirely new dimension to the taste. The vegetable dish was a valiant effort, just too few "summer vegetables" for my taste..... I was looking for Brussels, Onion, Squash, Asparagus, Kale etc however it seemed to only be an assortment of peppers. (Both pictured)
Our daughter ordered grilled New York strip steak with truffle fries that was an excellent medium sear with equally nice seasoning. The wifey ordered sautéed shrimp and scallop over tagliatelle pasta. Very well prepared regarding the scallop, and from what I had gather the pasta was prepared appropriately.
The highlight for me were appetizers (and yes they had a dessert menu). We ordered calamari, hush puppies (the star of the night!!!x1000), duck nachos, and Crispy (flash fried) Deviled Eggs (very close 2nd to star of night). Hush puppies were extravagant, nice crispy outer, soft and moist inner, sweet and subtle spice. I will definitely return for this product lol. They are deep fried and served with a honey almond paste, delectable. Devil Eggs are flash fried and topped with colossal crab meat.... need I say more. Calamari easily top 3 in the DMV area and duck nachos is below par and needs work.
So back to the mention of the fall menu from the beginning of this review (yes I know you thought i was hopelessly rambling and losing my purpose, but I suppose not)..... when the in laws last visited they had the fall menu and offered pan braised lamb shank with polenta on the menu that had since been removed.
The ambiance of the restaurant is fancy however the Customer service was surprisingly down to earth, friendly & knowledgable. With that being said I will continue this two part review and await for the fall menu to return, but in the meantime this place gets a 3 star review from me.
