    Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes

A nice little place to grab a beer and get some food. The server did a great job as we had a big party and took up the entire back room. I especially liked the beer list that included craft beer. The menu had a variety of items to chose from and the burger looked really good. I went with a crab cake, fries, and a side salad. The crab cake was really good and filling (about 6 oz). The only downside was that I couldn't get a baked potato on the side until after 4. I'll be back!

Awesome Thanksgiving experience!!! Definitely considering returning here next year... food buffet was delicious, service courteous, and ambiance comfortable--like being at home.

My lunch date suggested this restaurant. We were warmly greeted by our host/waitress Sophia who provided excellent and thoughtful service from the moment we sat down to order to when we got up after paying the bill. The restaurant inside is modern and very unassuming from the outside where we actually sat. Our food was delicious large in portions. Ultimately, a trip worth taking for great service and excellent food. We already planned a return trip.

This is my third time here in the past two weeks. The first time the food was pretty good. I got the open faced turkey sandwich. The second time was amazing. I got the shrimp and crab Chesapeake pasta. Today I was going to order that again but my friend ordered crab dip as an appetizer so I ordered the salmon with asparagus and a baked potato instead. The salmon and asparagus were awful. The salmon was thin and flat and completely encrusted with black and white sesame seeds and a balsamic soy sauce (supposed to be a ginger soy sauce but I didn't taste any ginger) which I didn't care for. I scraped the sauce off and wiped it off the plate with a napkin and put lemon on it but those sesame seeds were just an off putting texture. I thought it would have a few sprinkles of seeds over it but it was just too much. The asparagus tasted good until about half way down the stalk. Then it became hard and tough. I was unable to bite it. It was like eating bamboo. The server came back and saw I had not eaten my food and asked if I wanted a box. It was a $27 meal so I said yes and explained I didn't care for the taste or texture of the food. She said ok and just brought me the box. So all I ate was my side salad and baked potato. I could have gotten that at Wendy's drive thru for for 1/4 of the cost of this meal. When she offered dessert I hinted that I had not eaten dinner yet so I'd be skipping dessert and would have to get dinner elsewhere. She ignored that comment too. I feel disappointed more wasn't done to offer me a better dining experience. :(

    Our half eaten pizza

UPDATE to my review from a year ago...I'm still giving this place a low rating even though the person who responded to my review a year ago said the experience I had then was not normal for their restaurant. Sadly, tonight we decided to review their menu online prior to giving this place one more try and I found that being a Sunday the menu said one of their offerings after 4pm was Prime Rib. In fact, it was this particular food offering that made our decision to eat here. When we arrived, around 4:30/4:45pm we were quickly seated but, when the waitress showed up she said that the pastrami sliders and something similar was not available tonight. Planning to get the prime rib this news, at this point, was not distressing. My significant other was planning on ordering the jumbo lump crab cake and a 1/2 rack of ribs. When the waitress came back for our order my significant other told her that I would like the prime rib... it was then, not when she told us what else wasn't available, that she decided to disclose that the main reason we were there, the prime rib, was not available. She then offered an option in its stead of an open face prime rib sandwich...lol, that's a poor substitute for someone who specifically chose to try this restaurant one more time just for the advertised Sunday prime rib. Heck, we drove there just to get it. Since the $41 prime rib was unavailable we both chose to choose something else. So instead of ordering the $41 prime rib and the jumbo lump crab cake which was equally expensive with the addition of a 1/2 rack of ribs we chose to order two soups at approximately $9 each and a pizza that was $16 but because it was Sunday was $3 off. When the crab soup arrived for my significant other the bowl itself was only slightly warm to the touch and relatively lukewarm to cool to the taste so, we had to hunt down our waitress for resolve. Before coming to our table for his lukewarm soup she went back to the kitchen and then came to us with the excuse that the soup warmer wasn't working right and warming the way it should be so, she offered to microwave it for us. I don't know what alarms me most here, the fact that the soup must have sat around in a warmer that wasn't warming properly for god knows how long today or the fact that she took the bowl back to microwave it after it had sat inappropriately for god knows how long and then brought the same bowl back out to serve not questioning if the inappropriate warming might have damaged the soup that she was now reserving to a customer. Our pizza arrived shortly after she returned with his rewarmed soup. The pizza was only okay at best . It looked good for presentation purposes but, it had little sauce, little taste and the crust was too tough to cut with a fork but, it was even harder to chew being as tough as it was. When all was said and done we ate only half the pizza, boxed up the rest and received a bill for less than my prime rib alone would have been had it been available for order tonight. We paid our bill and left. Is it good business to advertise something that is not available? No! Is it good business to advertise something that is not available and have people choose to drive to your restaurant specifically for that item? Again no! Is it good business to advertise something that is not available, have a waitress wait until you order it to tell you it's not available when she had already told you what was not available when she first came to your table? No! Is it good business to do all this to two customers who have already had a bad dining experience at your restaurant? Definitely not! As reviews go this one is negative and as research has shown the impact of negative word-of-mouth can be more devastating than ever as online and social tools that amplify word-of-mouth are increasingly more powerful. With my responder last year telling me that our bad dining experience was outside of their norm sadly, tonight only showed me more of the same. A picture of our not eaten remaining pizza is below.

This was our first time here, as on prior occasions we found the line too daunting. We were surprised when another 4:15pm patron was led to their reserved table, but we learned that their planning and caution was well-founded. We discovered the popularity of Bolder to be well-deserved. Seeking lite fare for an early dinner, calorie conscious, we both navigated the tempation-filled menu with success. We thoroughly enjoyed the bison burger and turkey club, the latter being sufficiently sample for a split lunch the next day too. Service was rock-solid and very efficient. We definitely hope to be back soon. And we will make a reservation. Dress code is casual.

It's a little bit off 70, but not bad. First off, this restaurant has an incredibly oversized parking lot. Maybe the restaurant has areas I didn't see, but I was a little bemused. Inside, it's decorated a bit like an old lady house with country accents. It's welcoming and nice, if a little old. I was seated and served quickly. My waitress was great. I ordered French onion soup and a bison burger with sweet potato fries. The French onion soup came out first. It had a huge layer of cheese on top, but it tasted like white cheddar. The soup itself was good at first but started getting bitter. I discovered a huge bay leaf in it. That explains that. Guys, leaving a bay leaf hidden in French onion soup is a violation of Article 35(2) of the Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions. My sweet potato fries were seasoned with a chipotle cinnamon blend. It was weirdly sweet and clashed with the burger. I didn't care for it and honestly feel like if you're going to season with something weird, you should be abundantly clear. The burger was a disappointment. It was fairly basic. It was cooked right, but every so often I would get a burst of salt. I suspect the meat was salted and not well mixed. My burger, fries, and side of soup came to over $40. I am honestly being more critical of them because of that. At that price point, I expect REALLY good, not salt pockets, a left-in bay leaf, and weird seasonings.

Like an hour (ish) drive. So what's happening in HP? The Barn out Washington St. had a MemorialDay weekend all-day mostly-country music event 2pm to 10:30pm! Very nice. They have a great little bar inside, and sometimes have food from one of the restaurants across the parking lot, or just walk over for takeout, or i think i read that they deliver here. By the way, parking can get a little tight for a bigger event like this one, but we were early enough, maybe 1pm, and we scored a space when someone left. I might as well add that there's several clean restrooms sort of across from the bar. We settled into a huge comfy couch near the back of the hall, behind the seating for roughly 30 at tables and picnic tables. There was also seating for roughly 20 at tables out on a deck. The first solo singer-guitarist, D.C.'s Kate Smiles, had a lovely voice and sweetly original interpretations of rock and pop and country songs that i knew, and a presence that made me say, Hey, Wow, I can relax in this mellow mood with a really nice whiskey from a list that my local bar would envy. By the way, they were out of the local whiskey, Devil's Due, so i had a warming fiery oaky slightly-sweet Elijah Craig bourbon, neat, with a water back. Mmmmm. The second musician, W.V.'s Andrew Copenhaver, moved among soulful blues and country, some classics, some modern. He could put an edge on his voice, and he could hit some deep bass notes, so it was a real pleasure when he gave us Folsom Prison Blues. When you can hit that low note, you have a right to do some Johnny Cash. By now i was into some crisp local beers. That little bar really has everything, including a versatile bartender who made every drink we knew, and we sampled his skills as the third musician, NoVA's Mark Cullinane, took the stage. He had a wide range of country songs, including a moving original that made us feel we were driving in our pickup behind his dad's. He had a great rich tone and great range. Like the second musician, he used some kind of looper to create full layers of harmony. What with all the beverages, we started to fade a little as the music moved into the set by NoVA's seriously-country Rowdy Ace Band around 8pm. They really lit up the hall and the patio and probably a good piece of nearby Harpers Ferry. We eventually moved on to our reservations for dinner across the parking lot at Snallygaster's restaurant. But that's another story. We had a terrific afternoon and evening. The Barn will definitely be one of our go-to spots in this town, and we'll be looking to hear these musicians again!
