This is hands down a great place to get a sub and the owner and staff are so cool and friendly. They fresh slice your meat per order and offer plenty of yummy extras. After eating here you will never be able to enjoy subway again beacuse this place is THAT delish. Just an FYI they are a small joint, and do not have seating inside (they do have outside seating which is nice in the dry seasons) so you will have to take it to go. read more

Having read other reviews on Yelp, we were excited to see that there was a good sub place very near our home in the middle of the Albertson's strip mall on 185th avenue. We walked in and they were playing fun, upbeat music that put you in a good mood. Ordered a few sandwiches including a Turkey club and a hot pastrami. The pastrami was very enjoyable and the bread tasted fresh. The Turkey was also good. There's nothing extraordinary or unique about the sandwiches, but they were high quality and satisfying. read more

I drove 40 minutes out of my way to try their subs. I like the vibe and good attitudes from employees. I like it when businesses have happy employees. I've been coming here for years, really love this place. They know my name, my order, and it's always delicious. Service is fast and friendly. What I really like, is they have good fresh wheat bread, and quality meat. I have some allergy issues with preservatives, that I've experienced at other sandwich shops, but no problem here. This is a really small place with no seating inside at all and looks like it is for takeout only. The menu items are standard sub shop choices. This place does offer a choice of roll sizes other than the basic 1 footer (I think like a 2 footer or maybe bigger). The counter staff slice the meat to order and the serving size is enough. But, the food was just not anything that stood out. It was very basic nothing fancy like garlic or guacamole spread, bread choices (other than standard white or wheat sub roll) or artichoke hearts or anything like that. For the area, this sub shop maybe as good as it gets. But, I think the place has potential and can offer more unique choices. The Sub Shop was what this place was called about 20 or so years ago, and it was my favorite sub shop. New owners named it Monkey's Subs and the quality was still the same; if not better. The staff is great, the food is fresh, and they have a lot of cool subs on their menu. I have been known to take trips out here just for the subs. I recommend this place! read more

I just moved to the neighborhood a couple of weeks ago and have already been to monkey's four times. My husband and I are huge sandwich fans and had to find an awesome hole-in-the-wall sandwich place immediately - and we totally did. The staff is great; they've been super friendly, even when only one girl was stuck there by herself during the lunch rush. The sandwiches and nearly perfect. They slice all the meat to order and right in front of you. The prices are pretty spot on, and their specialty subs rule. I tend to order the turkey bacon avocado and my husband leans towards the monkey wrench. Both are wonderful. We've taken every visitor we've had so far to monkey's, and every single one of them has been impressed. Keep up the good work! read more

Excellent sub shop. A hole in the wall in a nondescript shopping center -- the sign outside doesn't even say "Monkey's." Don't miss it! They slice the meat fresh for each sandwich, and they use shredded lettuce and good tomatoes and all the appropriate toppings (in the right proportion). The sub roll is crusty on the outside and soft on the outside, as it should be. This is as close as I've had to a real east coast sub out here in the Portland area. N.B. No indoor seating. read more

Had the Barrel of Monkeys and it was pretty damn good. Ham seemed cheap but I didn't notice, and the sandwich was a nice balance between bread and fixin's. This was my first time trying Monkey's subs and they exceeded my expectations! I got a 6" tuna and it looks bigger than 6" honestly, maybe it's because I'm so used to the small, sad sandwiches from subway. The tuna was delicious! They make it different than anything I'm used to. The customer service was wonderful! They bring you your sandwich and are sure to personalize the experience by telling you, by name, to have a nice day. Price was also reasonable. Yum! I drive past this place almost everyday for work/school but the parking lot always seemed daunting. That, and the traffic off 185th/ 26 is not ideal. Regardless, I stopped in after work today and wow! Super delicious and fresh. I got a honey mesquite and ordered a foot long to split with my husband. After tasting this, I'm debating sharing after all... great tasting bread. The guy slices the meat right there on the spot and it's just super delicious. I'll be back! We tried the new locations off of 185th. The food is good, staff is great. The place has no ambience, its very plain - which you would not expect from the name. I feel it is a little over priced - or at least they need some specials and deals. I don't think they will last in this location, the ways things are now - just my opinion. But I hope they do stay. Also the name is slightly odd; I think it should be "Monkey Subs" - that flows better, seems to make more sense. Good luck guys! read more

This is our go to spot for an amazing sandwich but today was totally out of character for them. 2 young girls and a young man were working that I've never seen before (mind you im there about once a week). First they tried to charge me over $20 for one sandwich. I ordered extra onions and tomatoes on only half the sandwich. Apparently that was too much to ask of them because they proceeded to argue back and forth in front of myself and other customers about my order, escalating quickly to yelling at each other. The sandwich was not correct when I got home with it. I can handle my order not being right here an there and I will continue to get sandwiches from there, but they might want to rethink who they hire as they are representing a shop that I LOVED and now when I go if they are working I will turn around and find something else to eat. read more

I have been going to monkeys subs ever since high school. They served monkeys subs when I was actually in high school, and I would still pick up sandwiches at the shop other days. My favorite is the turkey, bacon, avocado. I have noticed over the years that the amount of meat they put into their sandwiches is getting smaller and smaller. They used to be known for a generous portion of meat in their sandwiches but I find that to be missing now. Also- the amount of avocado in the sandwich was offensive. For the price it is definitely not worth it anymore which is sad because it used to be a lunchtime staple. read more

This has turned into a once a week lunch spot for me. Usually because I start talking to someone at work who has never had one and I pop out to treat them to a large Monkey Wrench. The large is a pretty good sized sandwich from them. I usually get mine without vinegar and oil. The bread is great and it has that firmness and crispness with a good chew to it. The meat is sliced directly off the bulk/chub onto the sandwich. Service is friendly and I have been greeted in a sincere manner each time I have been there. I'm probably just spoiled from Jewish style delis during my time in LA (Canter's or Jerry's) where they pile the meat on as if it's your last meal, but I was pretty disappointed by the meager amount of meat placed on my sandwich.
