Nice surprise...fabulous subs! We were heading to a different sandwich shop but they were out of what I wanted, so I happened to notice Monkey's Subs on the map and we were very glad we did. Such fresh tasting (and looking) ingredients, SO much better than most other sub shops. Enough of an improvement that we will happily go out of our way to get our subs here from now on. Stopped by this afternoon for a monkey wrench sandwich. The place looked deserted. No customers. No bottled drinks reefer. No chips display. No wall hangings. No tables. The space was pretty much empty except for the glassed in counter and prep table. One employee who clearly had nothing to do. I inquired where the tables went and he mumbled something. In recent years, several newly opened Monkeys locations closed as quickly and as quietly as they opened. This location is one of the last remaining besides the original store on Farmington. Prices have increased a LOT! $19 for a sandwich and gratuity. No drink and no chips and I don't think they had either in the store anyway. Yeah, so I get it. Costs are rising everywhere (except for my retirement income which is sinking like Godzilla in quicksand). Thanks Joe. But the cost of the food is only a small portion of the overall expense of running a restaurant anyway. So how much does it cost to heap on an extra couple of slices of meat or a little more tomato onto an ~ $20 sandwich? The sandwich is why customers come here. The high margin items are the soda and chips which were curiously absent. So if I was a betting man I'd wager that this location is soon to close it's doors forever. I wonder if the chain founder is still around or if he sold to some knucklehead who is intent on running the brand into the ground. Guess I need to swing by the "main" store to see if he's still around. This dopey little mall is a busy location so I'm surprised that they'd close this one. But restaurants all over have been shuttering since the scandemic so I suppose that's life in our brave new world. The sandwich was still good and the kid working there was fine if not bored out of his skull. I really had a hankering for a Monkey's sub and made a special trip out here for one. I enjoy a good veggie sub and theirs hit almost all the marks. The veggies were all fresh and crispy and they made the sub while you waited. There were a couple of orders ahead of me so I grabbed a seat after ordering and I didn't have to wait long. I need to eat more protein so I had them add roasted beef to my sub. The beef was sliced for my sub and was tasty and tender. Bread is an important element of a sub and their white bread roll was adequate but not very inspiring. They could use a nice artisan bread. Lastly was the cheese. The veggie came with a couple of lonely thin slices of provolone. The sub would definitely be better with more cheese. Finally, the price was at the top of the range for subs in Beaverton but they are so much better than Subway, Jimmy John and Pot Belly that the higher price was worth it. I will definitely return though I might go to the original one at 185th & Farmington as it's a little easier for me to get to. read more

I've been coming to monkey subs for 7 or 8 years at this point and there's a reason for that. The subs are great and they have been for as long as I can remember. I recommend the turkey bacon avocado and my friend got the BLT (toasted) and liked it! Get the default list of toppings because it adds a lot of depth to the flavor. The service has always been great here. The staff are kind and efficient and I've never waited longer than 10 minutes to get my sandwich. The ambiance is off right now but that's only because they're renovating right now. The best part of the ambiance has always been the music! Used to go to the original location frequently when I worked nearby and loved the fresh subs. I think I've only has the monkey wrench- why mess with perfection? The sandwich here was on par flavor wise and was really good. The only difference was the bread. Wasn't bad, just wasn't what I remembered and was a little narrower if that makes sense. Found this shop on Yelp and decided to give it a try when in town. Coming from the sandwich culture and quality of the east coast, my expectations weren't particularly high. Nevertheless, I was delightfully surprised by their sandwiches. I had the Italian meats sub, a meatball, and a pastrami sub. The bread was soft and chewy. Tasty. Monkey's Subs is definitely geared towards meat eaters. I am a vegetarian and found only one possible option for me on their menu. I understand that most sub sandwiches are made with meat but how about an egg salad option or a veggie patty option? The veggie sub I ordered was tasty but consisted mostly of shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes. The cheese was paper thin and the fresh avocado was mashed. Since the cheese and avocado are the stars of this sandwich, when they fail the entire sandwich is disappointing. Sliced avocado and more cheese slices would have been much better. The oil and vinegar dressing was tasty and made the sandwich nice and juicy. I also ordered their potato salad which tasted exactly like the packaged one from Safeway. It's good but definitely not homemade. There are many options for meat eaters and those subs may be much better than the veggie one. I placed my order online for delivery. This sub shop isn't monkeying around when it comes to sandwiches. They like subs. They want you to like subs. So, they make subs you'll like. Exhibit A: The 12-inch Monkey Wrench It's just over a $1.00 an inch at $12.50, so, this is no $5 footlong; however, it's also better than Subway ... AND ... comes with the magnificent 7 of meats: Ham, Turkey, Mortadella, Cotta Salami, Pepperoni, Salami, and Roast Beef ... guarded by the three musketeers of cheeses: Provolone, Swiss, and Cheddar. It was not only a filling lunch that I couldn't finish, but 6" was a pretty great dinner, too. I have been disappointed both times with what arrived to me as basic sandwiches ordered with double meat with prices over $13 each. Cheese unmelted, bread not toasty, small portions of meat. Sub sandwiches are not my jam. I don't like shredded lettuce. I don't like squishy white pasty bread. I'm not usually a mixed up lunchmeat kinda girl. Or even a lunchmeat girl. And sandwiches drenched in oil and vinegar are weird. They're NOT salad, you know. Do not even talk to me about the usual plastic cheese you will find on those things. Ugh. Usually there is not avocado. In my mind, if there is no avocado it is not a decent sandwich. Also pasty goopy green " avocado spread" is unacceptable. The tomatoes are usually not yummy. So when a friend wanted to get us sandwiches from here my hopes were not high. If Gin Thai had been open I would have pushed us that way. Thai food is reliable and makes sense. I can be a little opinionated. But friend was sandwich focused. Okay then. I wound up with a decent smoked turkey sandwich on an okay wheat roll, with ripe tomatoes, normal cheese, avocado and no dressing. Also, honey mustard which I happen to like. It tasted good. I saved half for later, and the lettuce didn't bug me. I could have had a 6, 9, or 12 inch. Kids can get a 3 or 4 inch I think. That flexibility is uncommon and cool. They have a good selection of hot and cold subs, toppings, and sauces. They are local. Parking is tight. This lot gets busy. Oh, also it was clean and the people were friendly and helpful both on the phone and in person. I think we will be back and my reluctant visits to that other sub place ( my teen likes it but will be swayed by the call of avocado like her mama ) are over. Monkey Subs does not monkey around. P.S. Solid five-star sandwiches. Ordered three for takeout on a Saturday after the lunch rush, the team had them cranked out in about 5 minutes. They were all good: Roast beef club Ham and turkey Barrel of monkeys Their 8 inch subs are about $9 and they are loaded. Loved the thinly sliced meats. Saw too late that you can add extras like pepperoncinis for freeeee! Next time! Honestly the best quality turkey of any sub shop I've been to in a while. I can't speak for the other meats because I can't stray away from the turkey. Also their veggies are very fresh as well. Today I ordered online and when I went at the appropriate time to pick my order up there was only one guy working with what looked like 12 orders with 3 sandwich's at least on each ticket. The wait was a little longer than expected, by a little I mean more than 30 minutes. I would have waited an hour. Probably more. The employee that was working handled every customer with so much grace and kindness. I have never seen a more hard working person. He was so busy he had to call for back up, when the back up person got there he was also attempting to give the person walking in tips and tricks of the trade. Which if you've ever worked in customer service is SO hard to do when you have 15 guests waiting for something in front of you. I don't know the guys name but I am in absolute awe of his work ethic. Great food; even better service. I will note I am a pretty impatient person...so the fact I'm leaving a 5 star review after waiting so long for a sandwich is wiiiild. Was expecting / hoping I'd like this more than what I got. Heard "good" things about this place so I thought I'd give it a try since it's close by. I got the meatball sub, which you can get with either white or wheat bread. It comes with about 3 meatballs per 6", with a decent amount of chunky tomato sauce and melted cheese, but that's basically it. The bread is basic, tomato sauce was lacking in flavor, and nothing really special about it at all. The meatballs were good, however, but considering that the other 70% of the sandwich wasn't impressive, and at ~$11 for a 12" it's way overpriced for the quality; you could sadly get a much better meatball sub at Subway. I wish this place were better because it'd be nice to have a good alternative to Subway. read more

Monkey Wrench is bomb man, they lay on the sauce, meat and veggies evenly. Sometimes its hanging out of the sandwich but it makes my mouth water. The smell the look, it's great. I feel they might give more at the Aloha location but I think it's just because it's the original location. For a local shop, Monkey subs is my jam. read more

I REALLY wanted to like this place. I've been meaning to try it ever since it opened up and finally did today. Pros: the customer service was pretty good, they were super fast, the cookies were delicious, and the turkey was really good. Cons: I ordered a sandwich with just turkey, cheese, and olives, but I got no olives. The bread was nothing special and I really wasn't a fan of it at all, I would say probably the worst sandwich bread of all the sandwich places around. If you love sandwiches as much as I do, you'll know what to look for and what will make you come back for more. After driving by several months, I finally stopped in to pick up lunch for the lady and I and ordered the monkey wrench and 6" meatball sub. I ordered online for pickup for 12:30 PM and after placing the order, the time was pushed out further than what was listed on my order. That's ok, I guess... I showed up at 12:28 PM lol and was greeted upon entry and walked to the pick up side of the counter and let the workers know I had placed an online order. It wasn't quite ready, so I waited a few minutes. At least 10 min. Not sure what the wait was for, as it wasn't busy. No one was in line until after I showed up and patrons inside were already eating. Maybe short staffed or had a large call in....Whatever! After waiting, subs were ready I grabbed them and headed to lunch with the lady! Monkey wrench is a big sub. It's good and definitely packed. So if you're hungry hungry, go for it. Otherwise, it's probably good to share. The meatball sub was good too. 6" comes with 3 meatballs. If that matters... Not a "blow you away" type of sub shop but definitely good and an establishment I will revisit since it's nearby. 3.5 for me waiting (I know I know, I just didn't understand why lol) but 4 stars for the food. read more

Ordered the tuna sandwich. As soon as I got my sandwich and took it to my car and opened the sandwich to eat it, the bottom bread of the sandwich was wet. The sandwich turned into a burger because both sides of the bread ripped. This sandwich was no different then the tuna sandwich at Subway which is actually $2 cheaper. It's tucked away in a nondescript strip mall. The interior is streamlined and simple, the exact opposite of Jimmy Johns explosions of signs in the walls. The people here are very nice and were patient with me since I asked them to read the menu to me and recommend a fav. Ordered the Monkey Wrench and really enjoyed the meatiness and flavors. They put effort into how they built the sandwich and stacked the meat. I went back to enjoy another selection and had the Banana Boat, which is a classic Italian. The bread is very fresh, moist and it perfectly matches a generous stacking of meat. It was a truly great sandwich! read more

Excellent service and an outstanding sandwich too! We had never been to this shop, but we were made to feel very welcomed here. The shop is spotless & well organized! The young man who made our sandwich was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was delightful to chat with him! On Fridays you can even get a free cookie when you buy a sandwich! We got the "Barrel of Monkeys" on wheat with all of the traditional toppings, which are as very tasty! We loved the Italian herbs on it too! I highly recommend this place for a great experience! My husband is not normally a big fan of cold cut sandwiches, but this one was very good! We loved that the meat was freshly sliced to order. Went for the first time today with some friends at lunch and will definitely be back with the family this weekend. I ordered the roast beef club based on the cashiers recommendation and was not disappointed. The meat, cheese and toppings all were fresh and tasted great...but the real winner that will have us coming back is the bread. The service was equally as great as the food!!!
