We walked into Monarca not expecting much and ended up having the best Mexican food we've ever had, hands down. Every dish was excellent, service was outstanding, and the ambiance was clean and inviting. It's clear this place takes pride in doing things right. Highly, highly recommend, a must-visit if you're craving authentic, delicious Mexican food in Paso Robles!

Delicious brunch spot in downtown Paso! Cute cafe and friendly staff and quick service. I got the Denver omelette with added mushrooms. It came with avocado and choice of bread and either country potatoes or hash browns. They have a bunch of sauces at the table to top your breakfast the food was delicious. Will definitely come again!

Very cute spot with a good variety of breakfast items. I opted for the homemade breakfast plate which was two sopes with beans, chorizo, avocado, and eggs. The door was very good and definitely tasted homemade. The service was hit or miss, but they were very nice.

Monarca has escaped me, seems to be closed everytime I'm looking for a place. They have breakfast and lunch hours M-Th, and longer days F-Su. As it turns out, I've lost out until recently. So damn cute inside, especially during the holidays. So damn nice and helpful, service and management. So damn delicious, owner is also the chef and he knows what he's doing. So damn fresh, from the homemade chorizo, fish, and all the vegies. Basically, they have Mexican food...with a steak & a few seafood options for dinner. I'll be back, and often. Their 3 salsa's made fresh everyday are nothing short of magnificent.

Solid option for breakfast/brunch right in the center of town, Monarca is delicious. A cozy setting nestled among several businesses and yet it's comfortable and even something of an oasis once you enter. Holiday lights, for now, but still it's pretty inside. The options are many: Skillets, omelets, sweets, salads and more. I could not resist the carne asada (including rice, beans, squash, carrots, jalapeños, avocado and French fries). All so good and fresh. The rice cilantro built in; the beans were creamy and smooth and delicious. The meat was cooked pretty much to order (MR), and it comes with your choice of corn or flour tortillas. It's huge, and I nearly finished it all! My dining companion got the breakfast burrito which looked good and was, in due time, demolished. There is such a deep menu here that I imagine you probably can't go wrong with whatever catches your eye. I also liked the coffee; a good bodied, non-acidic brew worthy of a few refills.

We did a quick look for sit down breakfast places we could walk to, and this one popped up as interesting. The place itself was clean and well decorated. When we arrived it was fairly empty, yet somehow we were offered the 2 worst tables - right at the door, and then in the corner where the wasn't enough room to sit. Third try and we got one against the wall. Hubby got an omelet and potatoes. Bread didn't seem buttered, but he enjoyed the egg. I got the California burrito with maduros. Not much meat in the burrito but it was ok. Maduros were awful and I was sad to have to pass on them. We laughed on our way out, noting they had specials advertised outside but not inside. The menu seems like it has an identity disorder - Peruvian? Mexican? American? My guess is that the food etc would be better if they leaned into one. Giving this a genuine "meh". I've had better, but I've had worse. And no real need to return.

Pretty good! I ordered the chile relleno and an Arnold Palmer. The Chie was EXCEPTIONAL. The service was pretty quick too. We sat outside, so there wasn't much of a view except for the park. My one lil nitpick was that the tortillas were a bit greasy for my taste.

Was shopping in Paso Robles and needed lunch. Ordered a Club Sandwich, which came on a roll. It also came with some criss-cut fries. I ordered a soda. The sandwich was really dry, and the fries lacked flavor. Might come here again if I am in the area, but would order something else.

I did not have a great experience here! First, my boyfriend made a reservation for us, but when we arrived, no one came to the front to meet us for several minutes (we were at the podium outside but the doors are clear glass), and when we walked in the door to try to grab someone, no one made eye contact or greeted us again for several minutes. I had to wave someone down and ask about our reservation, one of the staff members said to hold on, and we proceeded to wait awkwardly without guidance for several more minutes. Once we got seated, our waitress came up and immediately asked us if we were ready to order, without having opened the menu yet. Further, we waited about 30 minutes for our food to come out once we did order. My boyfriend ordered one of the breakfast combos with scrambled eggs, ham and hash browns. His meal was cold and the serving of ham was pretty small. On the other hand, I had the Monarca breakfast burrito, which was hearty and flavorful. I really liked the chorizo! I thought the breakfast burrito was very good, but the service experience here would probably prevent me from going back before trying other places in the area. I hope others don't have this same experience, as it looked like they had many other good items on the menu!

Newer restaurant in the area. Family owned and operated which I love. Came for the first time for brunch and was pleasantly surprised. Had a traditional Mexican dish (chilaquiles) was very good. Wife had the chorizo scramble and she loved it. Wasn't greasy at all which is typically an issue when ordering chorizo. Fresh squeezed orange juice and great service. Clean and quiet inside. This restaurant is a hidden gem, only because it is fairly new. It is the kind of restaurant you can't wait to go, and treat yourself. I've never had such delicious authentic Mexican food, ever! I've literally searched all California, and this is the only one that has met all my criteria's (fresh, delicious, authentic, great price) it is my meal was made to order, every aspect... the salsa, spicy like I ordered, the egg, crispy, the chorizo was perfect! The meat, was a whole experience! Juicy, well marinated, perfectly cooked. My dessert was perfectly paired with a dark chocolate not too bitter to complement the flan. My husband and I are visiting Paso Robles for the weekend and ate here for brunch. We ordered french toast shrimp tacos, country potatoes and mango mimosas. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS. The food and drinks were made with fresh ingredients. Fresh squeezed mangos and oranges for the Mimosas and they were the best tasting mimosas we have ever had. The staff were so very nice and attentive. Lupe was our server and she is such a sweet heart. She delivered excellent service. I am so happy we stumbled across this wonderful place. These days you cannot get great service, great food and drinks. read more

Chorizo Benedict is outstanding! That's right, pork chorizo! Not some whack soyrizo substitute! So yummy! Steak and eggs scared me, tbh. $16.99 for steak and eggs, how could that be any good? But they made me a sample of the steak. It's so tender! I will be back for that too. read more

A group of 5 of us had lunch here and it was delightful. The ambiance is very good - not super noisy. The restaurant decor is simple and really nice because it is simple, pretty and not encumbered with too much clutter. The menu is quite varied with some very interesting and unique items such as the cauliflower tacos. The chopped salad was fresh and beautifully plated. Very friendly, prompt service. I'm going to continue to support this lovely small restaurant and wish them much success. read more

This is a restaurant that you must visit! We are from Oregon and we came to visit family and decided to try this restaurant out. Upon entering, I felt the warm friendly ambiance that you want in a restaurant. The staff was incredibly friendly and the food? The food was amazing! I tried the cauliflower tacos and an asparagus soup and my husband had the seafood pasta both left us wanting more! If you are in the area looking for a nice relaxing place to have an amazing meal, this is it! We will definitely visit this restaurant again! read more

The place opened at 8:00 and we showed up at 8:10 on a Monday. We were the only customers and felt somewhat disappointed by the turnout, but the service was good and the food was better. I had the chilaquiles and eggs, half green sauce and half red. The green tasted better but both were tasty. Wife had eggs, bacon and French toast. Soft instrumental music played in the background and the decor looked great. Coffee was nice and strong, so great way to start the day! read more

The place is very tastefully done for a Mexican restaurant and their food is amazing. I tried it for the first time this week and wound up eating there three times in the same week, the red chilaquiles are some of the best I've had in this town and they're Arachera steak is also amazing. read more

I did some research ahead of our recent trip to Paso, and am glad we decided on Monarca for breakfast near our hotel. All the food was delicious, and I liked the small-restaurant laid-back vibe. We came to paso to eat no idea where to have breakfast walked in this resturant looking for a quick bite and it was amazing! Stopped in here for a late brunch after a late night at the fair. They serve breakfast until 3 so we had plenty of time. The food was delicious, the presentation was beautiful, and our server was friendly and helpful. Not only all of that, but the prices were very reasonable and a great value for our experience. Ok I'm torn about giving this restaurant the awesome review it deserves because then it gets popular and there's a wait to get in but I guess it's the price you pay for really yummy food. This place has the BEST French toast I've ever had. In fact everything we've tried here is above and beyond anything else in the Paso area. Not to mention great service. Otherwise, everything else was really enjoyable and service was good. Overall, a solid BBQ spot in Paso Robles and we'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

She found them a little bit bland even with the peanut sauce and didn't understand putting cabbage on something that's already lettuce wrapped. It's consistent, flavorful, well priced, and great portion sizes. I never leave hungry. I've only ever gotten breakfast but I imagine their lunch is decent. The only sad part is they don't have mimosas for breakfast! If you want that you need to go to their sister restaurant, Brother's Cafe.

Wow! We discovered a true hidden gem in downtown Paso Robles. We initially stopped in for drinks but decided to stay for lunch thanks to the exceptional service and recommendation from our server Dulce. The mimosas and micheladas were among the best we've had in town, and the freshly made guacamole and chips were outstanding. The shrimp tacos and chicken Caesar Salad were equally impressive. Our front window seating offered a lovely view of the city park, adding to an already great experience. From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be returning.
