The food was excellent. The bartender was slow getting to us as she spent most of the time with a family with kids at the bar. When we inquired about paying our bill as we were ignored for a long time the father of the kids reared up and stated he was the owners son and we could leave. I asked him why were his kids there and he said he could do what he wanted. He was a horrible person there. We finally paid our bill after a while inquiring about it while he threatened us. He was quite vocal. We will never visit again if this is how the owners son acts. He feels priveliged. read more

I was volunteering in St. Augustine until one o'clock and decided to try this place for lunch afterwards. The place was pretty empty, so service was great. The smell was amazing as soon as I walked in the door. They have both indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. It is a big space, so there is plenty of room for everyone. The menu provides appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. I opted for the two meat combo, which also comes with two sides and Texas toast. The two meats I chose were burnt ends and pulled pork shoulder. The pulled pork was probably the best I have ever had. It did not even need any sauce it was that good. The MOJO sauce was my favorite on the table. For the sides, I chose the BBQ beans and macaroni and cheese. The beans were also the best I have ever had. I will be back. read more

While visiting St. Augustine, my Bf and I were craving BBQ. We decided to try Mojo Old City BBQ. Our server was very nice and super thorough. We decided on ordering fried pickles, collard greens, mac n cheese, sweet potato mash, beef brisket, pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork sandwich was really good. They have a 4-5 different sauce bottles located on every table. The Mac n cheese and collard greens weren't the best (super bland ). The sweet potato mash (pretty good) along with the fried pickles. Also when walking inside, the tables weren't that clean (they need to work on wiping down the tables and floors). Overall it was a decent experience, but not sure if I would go back. read more

Ate here a little over 2 years ago and was very pleased with the food. Not sure what happened over the years but this time was absolutely horrible. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a pulled chicken sandwich for take out. The pulled pork sandwich was 80% fat and absolutely gross. We ordered a side of mashed potatoes with gravy on the side and it looks like the gravy was taken straight out of a can and placed into a take out cup (see picture). Then I asked for BBQ sauce to go and the to go cup was less than 1/4 full. Cant believe you pay 16$ for a meal and someone willing grabs straight meat fat and puts it on a sandwich to a paying customer. I feel like this was done intentionally since it was a take order and at the end of the night. Will never order from here again. read more

Came here during a busy Tuesday night this past week. We were grateful that we could be seated with only a 15 minute wait, since all the other restaurants we wanted to eat at had a 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours wait AND we have a ghost tour scheduled, so we were cutting it close. My husband enjoyed his Reuben sandwich, he asked if he could have onion rings as his side. He was told yes, but at the end there was a charge for them and the waitress should have mentioned the up charge initially. They were huge and were actually pretty good. I had the moist brisket and rib platter. I asked if I could get extra bark and the waitress said yes, but when the food came there wasn't any real bark. That said, the brisket was still moist and tender and the ribs were pretty good. I had the mac and cheese and corn and both could use a little more flavor. Our daughter had the kid's pulled pork, which was pretty good and the portion was generous. Her mashed potatoes were on the bland side. The place is big, with lots of tables and they were busy ... our waitress was decent. We tried the bbq sauces at the table and did not like any of them. This was a difficult review, I would say this was an overall 3.5 rating. read more

The menu at Mojo's Old City BBQ was very enticing, with lots of BBQ themed choices. The food, however, didn't live up to the descriptions. We had a hankerin' for BBQ while visiting St Augustine. A group of five of us ordered a variety of entrees with mixed experiences. I had the brisket dinner and was quite disappointed. The meat was surprisingly tough and was not very warm. The side of mashed potatoes were fairly bland and the corn was quite bland. My wife had the smokehouse chicken breast, which comes with cheese, bacon, Mojo BBQ sauce and onions. The chicken was pretty good although the BBQ sauce was not up to par. Even the other sauces on the table, including the sweet sauce and the chipotle sauce didn't seem particularly good as compared to other BBQ restaurants. The side of corn was tasteless. And the jalapeno corn bread was very dry and lacked the expected punch from the jalapenos. Such a disappointment! The pulled pork sandwich was pretty good, and the portion size was reasonable. Similarly, the pulled brisket sandwich was better than the brisket dinner. The collard greens were tasty and the coleslaw was as creamy as advertised. And the pit-smoked half chicken was very good, and a nice portion with two sides. The server didn't seem to want to be there. While she did refill our water glasses and provided overall good service, she was not particularly pleasant and didn't help create a positive dining experience. We randomly came across this place to watch the game and sit at the bar. It did not disappoint! My bf and I had a cucumber margarita and it was delicious! We also tried I believe the shrimp and brisket and they were delicious! The service was great, super chill and attentive. Way better bbq other places. Captain's in Palm coast is my favorite around hands down. Nothing really comes close so far. You do get a good amount for the price but the brisket was dry. The brisket in my Reuben was small and dry. Should be thinly sliced. Disappointed. Maybe their other meats are better. The sides were great - collards, green beans, sweet potato mash and Mac & cheese. Great selection of sauces are available at the table. You also get great service from the friendly staff. I'm happy with my experience here. I enjoyed the outside seating on their large patio on this relatively quiet street (when they aren't make the noise). I ordered a Funky Buddha draft as I thought about what to order. I wasn't feeling super hungry and I thought a platter of meats with a couple of sides would be a bit much for this meal so I decided on a sandwich - "The Smitty" in my case which came packed with brisket and sausage. The smoked corn side was more delicious then I expected. It really hit the spot. I was able to sample the different sauces on the table making for a fun meal. From what I saw this is one of a few locations in the area - I would certainly hit them up again. My family and I were enjoying a day downtown when we passed by Mojo BBQ and couldn't help but stop in when we could smell that delicious BBQ. The waitstaff was very kind! The menu had something for everyone in our group of six. I had the pulled pork with collard greens and black-eyed peas - amazing! Those were the best collard greens I've ever eaten. Our first visit to St Augustine and our first day of ups and downs...but Mojo was an up. Fair prices and generous amount of food. North Carolina pork with corn,mashed sweet potatoes and a little 'slaw and cornbread.A meal! My better half had blackened catfish with collard greens.Not disappointed.Potatoes were like a pumpkin pie,sweet with a bit of crumble it seemed.Meat was tender,and I think the corn was fried to perfection.Staff are young and lack a bit of focus and interest,but apart from that I hope I have time to try another meal before this trip is over. read more

This is probably our favorite BBQ place in St. Augustine. In the month that we were there we went 3 times! Twice on our own and once with our friends when they came to visit us. They have a lovely and large outdoor deck for dining al fresco dining. And generally the weather is so superb in St. Augustine that outdoor dining is what one wants. Most of the tables have umbrellas in order to be shaded from the sun. While the indoor space is large, I've never eaten indoors although passing through to get to the deck, the inside has on occasion seemed too loud. I like that they allow leashed dogs on the deck. On a couple of our visits we noted well-behaved and adorable dogs whose owners snuck a treat to now and then. ;-) On each of our most recent visits I ordered the same thing (I am a creature of habit) which were the St. Louis spareribs. Tom also ordered the brisket all 3 times. My spareribs were meaty, delicious and fall-off-the-bone tender. Tom's brisket which I also tasted was done perfectly, was moist, tender and so good. For sides, I got mac and cheese and collard greens bot of which which were spectacular. Mojo does BBQ right in my opinion. Good southern American style cooking. Service was always friendly, prompt and helpful. There is a beer and delicious cocktail menu. If you want BBQ in St. Augustine, this is your place. read more

This was my first night visiting the city and loved the idea of a BBQ joint. Unfortunately this one missed the mark on all levels. Nothing was bad but nothing was good either. This was just an eh experience. I would give 5 stars to the gentlemen hosting. He stated he has been working there for 11 years and it shows. He was amazing. I love this bbq spot! Everytime I come to Saint Augustine I make sure to include a stop here! Yummy juicy smoked brisket, and the burnt ends sell out quick, bc they are that good, pulled porkbtender and soft, they have a wide variety of dipping sauces at all the tables, mustard, chipotle, mojo sauce, and sweet bbq, but for me the best thing about the place are the variety of sides to enjoy your meats with, roasted corn, greens, sweet potatoe mash (sweet like a casserole with nuts) and their beans are amazing! I love their Texas toast, and they have jalapeno corn bread! Their cocktails are yummy and I recommend the cucumber one, bc on a warm summer day it's refreshing. I have visited Mojo's numerous times over the past couple of years in both St. Augustine and Avondale. Both are great! The location in St. Augustine has a dog friendly patio and at night, it's really a vibe. Great food, great drink choices and always great service. Past choices have been: Burnt Ends - When available, these are fantastic! A reason alone to go to Mojos. Crispy, meaty, delicious and I use the Mojo sauce for dipping. Onion Rings - These come in a "tower". They're huge, crispy, seasoned perfectly and fantastic. Mojos Salad - generous size with two choices of meat and the cornbread croutons set this apart from any other croutons you've had. Catfish Platter - This is my go-to meal. I get it blackened with green beans and corn. It also comes with jalapeño cornbread. It's amazing. Today, we had our dogs with us and we were starving. Both the waiter and staff inside fawned over our dogs. They also immediately provided water for us and our dogs and made us all feel welcome. This was one of our first meals out with the dogs and it really went well. We decided because of this being a test, we'd just get a couple of appetizers. I also tried Cheerwine Zero. This soda is an acquired taste. If you like Dr Pepper, you'll probably like this drink. We ordered the chicken nachos and the pulled pork quesadilla off of the appetizer menu. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you our food was out in about 7 minutes. Robert S was our waiter and he was a superstar. We were so hungry and it was so delicious that I only have pictures of the soda. Thanks again to Mojos for another great experience. I am a North Carolinian born and raised, and I am very particular about my Eastern NC BBQ. I thought Mojo's NC pulled pork sandwich was absolutely up to par--spicy, vinegary and delicious!! The cole slaw is also great (and I'm picky about my slaw, too!!), and if you like mac and cheese you HAVE to get that as a side it was soooooo good. We actually ordered delicious and even with the 15min drive it was just as fresh/warm as if we had dined in.
