Breakfast is at a whole new level here. This place runs unbelievably efficiently so don't let a line outside deter you. It moves pretty fast but yet you never feel rushed, they are that good. I don't care what you order here, it's going to be excellent, cooked to perfection, and flavored just right. We have been several times at this point, sometimes driving from the Northshore to just there for the ono grinds. Of course we will drift on other things since we are on that side but it Moena that spurs the trip. Now, one of my favorite things is the chocolate shake, in my book, goes perfect coupled with a cup of coffee. As for the food, the waffles are large and in charge, covered with fresh fruit and other delicacies. The pancakes are large enough to cover your jet ski, light and fluffy, and another mouthwatering item to consider. This a cute little cafe and it seems like people really like it because there was a list when we got there around 9:30 am. The staff was friendly and asked if we had any questions. Considering the fact that the cafe was busy, the wait was not too long for both getting a table and for receiving food. The waitress was very attentive and kept our water topped off. The kalua pork eggs Benedict were superb! There was A LOT of kalua pork and it was very good! The hollandaise sauce was delicious and the eggs were perfectly cooked. My friend had the MC breakfast. He kept commenting on how tasty the bacon was. I tried his country potatoes, they were nicely cooked but could've done with a little more seasoning. I did NOT expect the short stack (1 pancake) to be this HUGE!!! I was immediately intimidated by the size but the flavor was *chef's kiss*. This was our first time coming here. The atmosphere is amazing, super cute seating and decorations. The staff was friendly and inviting. The food was ehhh, it was ok. I ended up getting the chicken cranberry salad sandwich and it really didn't have much flavor, the bread was fresh but nothing much going on. My other half had the loco moco, and especially being residents we weren't impressed, the meat fell apart easily but the meat and (lack of) gravy had no flavor. Moena cafe is a very popular spot for breakfast/brunch amongst locals in the Koko Marina Center. Wait times get long, depending on when you come. I suggest getting there early to put your name down and then walking around. We waited around 30 minutes for a table. I highly recommend the Short Rib Loco Moco with an upgrade to fried rice. Very tender and flavorful! The gravy is so addicting. I finished it so fast they asked if I wanted more food. I would come back for this Loco Moco! 5/5 I suggest skipping the Hawaiian Omelet with Kalua Pig. It was lacking in flavor, dry, disappointing. 2/5 Service was great. The food not so much.. the pancakes were very thin and white.. the bacon was alright.. my eggs were TERRIBLE. When I was served I didn't think my eggs were going to be slimy and runny when I took a bite, I tried to eat it but I had to tell the waitress to take it back... when I got the eggs back it was the same runny eggs that were recooked and all my cheese were nonexistent... One of our favorite local breakfast spots on the East side! The food is delicious and ambiance is so cute. We love brining friends and family here when they visit. Moena Cafe always have that wow factor! The restaurant is usually packed so we waited around 20 minutes to get seated. They require your entire party to be here in order to seat you. Once we got our table the service was great and food came out fast. Today we ordered short rib loco moco, "MC" Fruity Pancakes, Banana Chantilly Pancakes and Crab/Kalua Pig Benedict. My favorite was definitely the Crab/Kalua Pig Benedict! I couldn't make up my mind between crab or kalua pig so they let me get half/half. The dish also came with deliciously crispy hash browns. The Banana Chantilly Pancake is also amazing! Giant fluffy pancake topped with a beautiful sauce. I didn't think we would finish the food because the portions were so huge but we devoured everything. Can I say YUMMY Definitely need to arrive early or plan to wait. We had close to an hour wait. There are about 10-12 tables in the restaurant so I don't think they can feed much over 40 people at a time. Once we ordered we also had a longer than expected wait, however remember everything being made to order, so worth the wait. We have been here multiple times over several years and is definitely a spot we try to visit every trip. The pancakes, waffles and Kahlua pork Benedict are all recommended for breakfast. We actually had lunch, I had a short rib brioche, my husband had the cuban and our son had the cinnamon pancake. Lunch or breakfast you just can't go wrong with the food. I was worried it would be busy since it was a Saturday at 11am and I assume most hikers would come her after Koko Head, but surprisingly there were only a couple small parties in front of us. Tables turned fast and we only waited maybe 10min. A lot of breakfast basics on the menu. I got the veggie omelette with side chicken sausage. I really like how they have chicken sausage on the menu because not a lot of places offer that. Boyfriend got MC breakfast with fried rice. Fried rice was OK. Definitely had better elsewhere. I needed breakfast before I was going to the beach. I ordered online for pick up and got the veggie omelette. I got there and had to wait a few more mins for it tog eat ready. The staff was super friendly and felt welcomed. I got my phone, went to the car and started eating. It def needed salt and pepper but usually places let you out it on so I understand. My avocado was super brown... like I don't even know how old it was. As I'm eating my food... I chewed on something king and hard. I got it out of my mouth and saw that it was a small stick. I don't even know what veggies in my omelette would have a stick so I'm not sure where it came from... I really want to love this place, it's cute and clean! But both times we've visited the food has been very meh and disappointing considering the long waits. Both times I waited about 30 minutes to be seated, so I have high expectations. Perhaps I am ordering the "wrong" things. I have tried both the breakfast sandwich and the kalua pig crepe and both really lacked flavor and were dry. Kalua pig crepe was really disappointing with the pesto either being forgotten or very minimal and the cheese was very small portion too. Came for brunch and I haven't been here for a couple years but it was still just as good as I remembered. The pancakes are huge and we decided to share the weekly special flavor of Lilikoi mochi which was soo good. When you walk in the cafe, the decor is very calming and cute. They have table seating, a small coffee bar for a few seats, and some tables with booths lining one wall. We ordered the sausage omelette and cinnamon roll pancakes. Both were pretty good - we especially loved the pancake! It was huge and sweet. For the price of the omelette I was hoping for a larger size and much more avocado, but it tasted good otherwise. The waitresses were all kind and seemed to be familiar with brunch rush on Sundays. Oh my goodness. The food is delicious. Loco moco short ribs were tender and juicy. It paired really well with the gravy and fried rice. The over easy egg over the whole plate tasted amazing!!! We also love the creamy crab Benedict. The poach eggs were cooked perfectly. I love that the yolk melted over the butter toasted bread. The avocado (extra $3) and hollandaise added creaminess to every bite. The food is also aesthetically pleasing!! We wanted to try the fruity pebbles mochi that's featured on their Yelp page, however, our server said that's a holiday special item. There didn't seem to be a dedicated drink maker/barista... so your server is your barista is your table cleaner is your hostess and the venue is slammed every seat taken, no outdoor seating for dining. This is such a small cute cafe! Went here for brunch on Monday for a party of four without any wait! Definitely recommend the short rib loco moco and the banana Chantilly pancake. The short ribs were a bit dry but the flavor of the fried rice mixed with the gravy is so good. Add the creamy yolk of a over east egg will send your taste buds into a nice surprise.
