I have going to MOD Pizza in Newtown Square since they opened a few years ago. My wife and I have seen several iterations and many people come and go. That's retail. What you don't want to see or experience is the level of service and quality of the product diminish too. Sadly, that's what I believe has happened. They've changed from free unlimited toppings to an up charge. Okay, prices go up. But they're also a bit stingy now. You have to be more insistent to get what you want. Recently their ice machine was down. I guess that happens sometimes. I sincerely hope things don't decline anymore. That would be terrible because generally speaking the pizza is pretty tasty. My family and I decided to stop at Mod pizza for a late Sunday lunch. The family stayed in the car and I went inside to order. Upon walking into the establishment, I noticed there were no customers and only 2 employees in sight. The man at the front was sitting down behind the counter playing on his phone. When I looked closer, I could see this guy knuckles deep in his nose, digging for the lucky charms pot of gold! This was the man that was supposed to make our food! Well, we were not that happy with the cleanliness of the restaurant. However, we choose to go ahead with the order. There were 3 people in the restaurant eating! Ordering online was very easy and they did make it the way we requested! When you get up to the counter, they have a display of their toppings and some extra cheese on the side looked really tasty! We had the thin crust with spicy marinara sauce, olives, garlic, then topped with pesto sauce! The pizza was $7.89 so for the price it was fine. The only problem is the dough, it was too thin for our taste buds! The server was quiet and didn't say much! Veggies - fresh onion, green pepper, mushroom, olives, artichokes,broccoli sliced tomatoes, chopped tomatoes, corn , pineapple, roasted red pepper, chickpeas and some more. Pile it on if you like! Ditto for salads - 4 choices of greens and all pizza topping are available for the salad- no wilted cheap iceberg lettuce! When I checked out the cashier was very friendly. Drinks- coke products a a selection lemonades and ice teas-- I love the caramel pear ice tea. Don't forget the MOD chocolate cake - like a HO-Ho! This was my first MOD Pizza experience. My husband always mentioned how yummy it was...and I finally was able to experience it! We ordered two MOD size pizzas and it was plenty for both of us. I came here today after hearing about this place recently opening. I was a bit disappointed, but still had a nice pizza. When walking in I was ironically greeted with a sign saying "Super Fast." Decor wise, this place was somewhat unique. They had some wood accessories, unique looking lights and a mural showing parts of Newtown Square. Once you are in line they have signs set up along the way showing their traditional pizzas with names like the "Maddy" or "Mad-dog." You can also make your own. I got their mini-pizza, which is 6 inches and goes for around $6, but it didn't really fill me up. Don't feel too rushed when you are in line to decide on your choice. I was in line for over 15 minutes. Eventually, I ordered the mini pizza, with mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce and grilled chicken. I also got a San Pellegrino soda. They have root bear and old fashion coke, which is a nice accessory. When my order was placed and ready to be put inside the oven, it just sat around for about 5 minutes, before it was actually put in the oven. When the pizza was taken out of the oven, it just sat on the counter for five minutes again. Over that period where my pizza was just sitting there, another customer had his pizza dropped on the floor. I also witnessed a worker taking a phone call while making a pizza. The pizza was solid and it had a great cheese flavor and a nice crust. It did get a bit bland later on. The chicken had a good texture, but the flavor was non-existent. I like that this build-your-own pizza concept lets you just go to town with toppings and it's...shockingly fast. I think you can't go wrong with any choice. If you're into veggies, go for veggies. If you're a meat lover, pile all the meat you want. After tonight Feb 11, 2020 , thanks to the whole crew especially the tall slink of misery wearing a Phillies hat (backwards) didn't get his name.....MOD deserves a 1. The kid has the personality of dirt. He was upset when my wife and I ordered....was further upset when I asked for extra sausage and ready to kill when I asked a third time. We both asked for 'well done' and usually you are shown the pizza and asked if it is 'done' enough. That hasn't been happening lately and the past two visits we just took them home and put them under the broiler. Don't think we will be back any time soon. read more

This is a nice location - very clean, friendly staff, and great service as we've come to expect at Mod. Everyone is very helpful, and they even go above and beyond! I noticed that a topping had been added to the list of options, so I asked about it, and the guy behind the counter offered to let me try some, and it tasted great! I ended up getting some of it - it was the hot honey, and it's a nice mix of sweet and spicy. During this same trip, one of the pizzas someone in our party had ordered formed a gap when it cooked in the oven, so they started baking another cheese pizza to replace it, without being asked! My first experience was not so good but I came back and they made me a believer. But wait you say! I'm reviewing Mod in Newtown Square! That is correct. I had ordered from NS two months ago and they forgot my Caesar salad. When I called to tell them, they took my name and said to stop in to get a new one. Yesterday was that day. I walked to the front of the line and was greeted by Cade. After I explained what happened, he told me he was going to take care of this and make me happy customer of MOD again. And he and his crew did. Took responsibility for the mistake HE NEVER MADE - because that's not how things are supposed to be done. He was awesome. He then turned me over to the very nice girl-named-Sam who took great care of me in putting my pizza ingredients together. She even asked for my approval before it went into the oven. Then the pizza man Luke took over - fired it in the oven as well as asked if I wanted a drink while I waited. (All of them asked). Mod allows you to pick from 30-35 choices to put on your pizza AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!! Pepperoni? Check.Sausage? Check.Basil? Keep going....there's about 30 to go. Ingenious! One price - based on size. That's it. Plus it tastes great. The Caesar salad was good. I am now a raving fan of MOD thanks to Cade, Sam and Luke. read more

Happy to see ricotta on the toppings bar since it wasn't listed in their online menu! Also great that they offer a side salad as an option so I can trick myself into thinking eating a whole pizza is more acceptable since I also ate some vegetables. We've enjoyed mod pizza for a long time, the concept, great variety of unlimited toppings, and I find the dough to be great, thin and crispy crust. However, it's a little hit or miss. A couple times we seemed to get stomach aches afterwards, can't prove it was the pizza, but very possible. The toppings do sit out there a while. But the thing that has bothered us lately at our particular location is the staff hasn't been great. A few seem rather disgruntled and have had arguments with each other and a bit well not exactly friendly with customers. I really enjoy this place. Fast, affordable, fresh and yummy! I have come up with my personal design for a pizza and keep getting the same thing every time...and I love it. It is always well cooked. Good bite to the crust with just enough char but not burnt. I do a Mod standard pizza with garlic rub and olive oil base. Mozzerella and parmesan cheese. Mild sausage for the meat. Arugula and red onions for the veggies. Pesto and Fig balsamic glaze for the finish. YUM! Only issue is a little inconsistency with the quantity of the finishing toppings. Sometimes they overdo it on the pesto drizzle. (and I LOVE pesto...but over a quarter cup of pesto is not a drizzle, lol) Overall...really good option for pizza lunch. read more

So disappointed during our visit tonight, as we visit this Mod location often. This evening at 7 PM there were a few staff members engaging in a loud verbal dispute in front of several customers. We were already waiting a long time (approx 25+ minutes) for our 2 small pizzas, and the staff were bickering and making a scene, as well as using profanity at each other. Small children were present during the staff argument in the middle of Mod pizza?! Very unprofessional, sad, and enough that we will not return! Plus when we finally received our pizza, it was not cooked through, the dough was soggy and the toppings were not fully cooked- disgraceful. No regard for customer service nor respect. MOD Pizza has a comparable concept to SNAP and others, you pick a suggested pizza, modify it or create you own. All ingredients are included at a flat fee, this applies to salads as well. You can double, triple cheese or other adding the way you like and still pay the same which is great. All pizzas are made with fresh dough and toppings and cooked in 2-3 minutes in the hot gas stove. If you're thirsty they BYOB or sell sodas and lemonades. Solid place to visit especially with your Kids. read more

Talk to your staff. This location was my original experience with MOD and it's been going downhill since the Summer of '17. 2 of your pizza makers were noticeably sick, sneezing into their hands or their arms while they were making food. They washed their hands after every sneeze (which was nice), but these guys should have been sent home for a sick day. The third person making food was being trained during a rush and kept making dumb mistakes and being scolded by her trainer in front of customers. You guys fail on two parts: 1) don't put people out on the floor if they're not ready and can't follow simple instructions. More importantly, 2) if you're training, don't scold your fellow employees in front of other employees and customers, it doesn't look good. The food is still fine for what it is, but the "WOW" factor that initially brought me to this spot is gone. read more

First time at MOD pizza, and I think this is also a relatively new location for them. They sell pizza specialty pizzas but you can also build your own. They sell salads too! The pizza is built right in front of you like you would see at Chipotle's. The servers were very friendly and helpful. The pizza is then put into a brick oven and cooked old fashioned style! I ended up doing takeout, but I can imagine it was probably crispy when it came straight out of the brick oven! We got 3 specialty pizzas to feed 4 adults, and that was surprisingly enough. We got the Calexico (the spicy one), the Caspian (the BBQ one), and the Mad Dog (meat version). The Calexico was actually not spicy at all. There were some jalapeño peppers on it but that didn't do it for me. The Caspian was my fave out of the 3, but my meat lover friends enjoyed the Mad Dog the best. They also have a cute outdoor space and plenty of seats inside and some outside. I enjoyed the cool decor and setup of the inside. Overall, I would recommend trying this brick oven pizza in store.
