I tried MOD Pizza for the first time on Monday, for my nephew's 10th birthday. It's one of his favorite places to eat, and I can see why. They have a wide variety of delicious and fresh toppings and a pretty good thin crust base (there's also a thicker crust if that's more your thing). Shabar, who I believe was the manager, was very patient with our big group, including kids, and all of our options. When he clocked out, he referred my sister to talk with the assistant manager (I believe his name was Ty or Todd) regarding a special they had going on for teachers & nurses that she didn't redeem on time. They were both very helpful and kind. Aside from the great service, the pizzas were delicious. I somewhat recreated a pizza that I fell in love with in Yosemite last month, and it totally hit the spot. I had the 11" thin crust with their signature red pizza sauce, mozzarella, ricotta, pepperoni, sausage, basil, crushed red pepper and then had it lightly drizzled with hot honey and pesto after baking. It was very delicious, and I cannot wait to have it again! One price regardless of how you top the pizza is a winner in my book. They also sell cake-like desserts which I will need to try next time I'm there. There were also cans of wine in the display: chardonnay, rosé and a red blend. I had the chardonnay and got a nice buzz off of it. The 12oz can comes out to 2-2.4 glasses of wine. Not too bad at $9. Since we were a party of 10, we hung out at the tables in the back area, adjacent to the bathrooms, and it was almost like having our own private space. Would definitely return! read more

If you're looking to get your pizza served with a side of pure, unadulterated attitude, look for the redhead dude rocking a Raiders snapback like it's 2012 with a beard. First off, trying to get his attention was like trying to get a text back from an ex. He was moving with the absolute urgency of a sloth on vacation. When he finally decided to acknowledge my existence, his customer service vibe was somewhere between "deeply inconvenienced" and "actively hostile." I asked if i had to pay extra for ranch and he snapped back if it's on the ticket i'll serve it to you. and he looked at me like I just insulted his entire family lineage. I get that working the line is stressful, but maybe leave the Raiders-level defense at home and just put the toppings on the dough. After that incredulously egregious interaction with an employee whom I'm certain is no longer affiliated with MOD Pizza*, amends were made, and I no longer have to fear getting ridiculed by any of their employees for any reason. Following such a debacle in customer service, my visits to this MOD Pizza were much less frequent, and I started patronizing Rubio's Coastal Grill in Lakewood. The recent, sudden, and certainly unfortunate demise of the Mexican fast casual chain caused that location to permanently shutter sans proper farewell. In spite of the rather high staff turnover rate where it seems an employee working one year wouldn't be working the next, the newer employees here have been holding down the fort quite well to stave off closure, a fate that was recently met by MOD's other Long Beach location in Bixby Knolls. I came three times during the month of June, ordering a pizza each time. One was online and two were in person. The first pizza I ordered online was pretty flavorful, but the crust missed the mark in two aspects. The first was that some of the edges were burnt, and the second was that the underside had a pretty grainy texture akin to sandpaper. I suspect there were residues of other customers' pizzas that got stuck onto my pizza while they were being baked in the oven. Either that, or their equipment could have used a deep cleaning. On my second visit, I asked for the crust to be well done, which makes the crust nice and crispy, but also close to burnt, though not necessarily dangerously. My grievances about the crust dissipated, but unfortunately, so did the flavor on this second pizza. Looking back, I don't recall being asked if I wanted some extra seasoning, but I would not chalk it up to that reasoning (yes, the rhyme was intended lol). However, it was enough for me to forgo the well done part on the third pizza. Luckily, third time was a charm! This time, I added some extra seasoning and also some leafy greens, which were offered by the crew member who built my pizza. Well, if there isn't a rule against it, why not?! That pizza was really what I needed, especially since later that evening, I worked a 5-hour volunteer shift nearby. Not to mention the crew member in charge of the finishing touches even offered a second cup of sri-rancha on the side. My previous pizzas used drizzles on top, but I think having the sauce on the side is a better idea. They won't charge you for extra sauce, even ranch, so if you really need that extra sauce, ask for more! :) I came once more earlier this month, but a couple things missed the mark. I ordered online, and the employee initially forgot to hand me my drink, which easily could have happened were I in a rush. Also, they kind of skimped on the toppings, so I didn't get as much compared to before. However, they more than made up for with sri-rancha. I had checked sri-rancha on my online order and said in the special instructions two cups of sri-rancha on the side. I was expecting sri-rancha to be on the side only, but they also included it as a drizzle. Not what I intended, but more for me I guess! lol There's definitely more than enough to bump my rating from a 2 to a 3. In fact, I'd say it's closer to a 4 right now, but on review updates, I only upgrade by one star unless the original rating was a 1, which then I could upgrade by two stars. Also, the new general manager, Amanda, is pretty cool and does whatever she can to provide a great meal to the customer with a side of hospitality. With progress being progressive over the past two years, this is now my go to for BYO pizza. And that's even with Pieology being closer to me, but I have recently developed a grudge against Pieology that may never go away. Don't ask me why. * The way I put it made it sound like she got fired. I can't confirm that was the case. What I can confirm is that she was a really good employee back then, but simply had a brain fart during my visit and didn't hesitate to admit fault to such a heinous act. I know her name, but out of respect, would not want to name drop, especially since it happened over 2 years ago. First time MOD Pizza eater here and I had a good experience! I met up for a pre-class dinner with some friends before teaching nearby at LBCC. This is kind of like Chipotle but for pizza, as in, you order at the counter and select all of the toppings you want on your pizza (or salad) and then your order is ready a short while later. I love thicker crust pizza (hello mid-west/east coast) so I ordered the Mega Mod pizza and got a whole bunch of different, random toppings including (but probably not limited to) mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, pepperoni, pesto sauce, garlic, bacon, red peppers, black olives, and basil. The pizza ended up being really good - it honestly exceeded expectations. I also noticed that if you sign up for the MOD Pizza reward program, you can get one of the the No Name Cakes on your first visit. When I spotted Red Velvet No Name Cakes, I signed up before I got to the cash register!!! All in all, this was a good experience and I look forward to returning in the future. MOD Pizza is so underrated. I'm honestly surprised it's not busier because it's one of the best and most consistent places around. I order from MOD all the time, mostly to go, and I usually do the build your own pizza and build your own salad. Every time the food is fresh, the portions are generous, and they never skimp. Especially with how expensive everything is right now, their prices are amazing for the quality and amount of food you get. The people who work there really make it all worthwhile. Everyone is hardworking, polite, and genuinely kind, and the customer service is always great. Their drinks are also really good. I had placed an online order of two unlimited pizzas and both were missing multiple toppings each, the crust on both were burnt. It wasn't busy inside when we went to pick up and the employees were standing around talking with each other and never addressed us when we were standing at the mobile pickup counter. We even noticed that another customer had approached the employees and had asked to use the bathroom and was ignored multiple times. When we asked about our pizzas they never even looked at us and responded very abruptly. We have never had any issues at any other mod locations so it was disappointing that our experience went this way. :( read more

The restaurant ambience is nice, with spacious sitting and large parking area. I was happy and satisfied with my food. The restaurant was cleaned with supplies well stocked including red pepper, cheese, and napkins. This is a build your own pizza place with unlimited topping for one fixed price. It came to my surprise that they have anchovies as one of the toppings and lord it was so delicious. It added a punch of umami in my pizza. The chicken paired it so well I finished 11 inches all by myself. I love the flat thin crust and the charred. Everything was flavorful and tasted fresh. The pizza came out exactly how I liked it even though I ordered it online. I am sure you can be even more precise with your choices if you ordered in pizza in the restaurant. They were very stingy with the toppings. There was barely any toppings! They only put some in the center and none on top and the topping was so little and scattered. I started remote work from home in 2020 and ordered a lunch pie often before the pandemic. I am selective about my pizza. I love a NY style thin somewhat crispy pie crust and MOD nails that. Love love love Mod Pizza. They make a thin crust with topics of your choice right there while you wait. And usually I'll get a mini salad to eat while the pizza bakes in their oven fire. And when the pizza comes out, the crust is thin, crackle-crispy and delicious. Everything baked to perfection. Don't forget to try one of their "no name cakes" which are essentially Ding Dongs, but on FIRE. Addictive. Can I add that these folks working behind the counter are lovely people too? Went to another place where they build a custom pizza while you wait, also here in LBC, and they were just miserable... all of them in need of antidepressants. It felt like a pizza and beer type of night so wanted to try this place out. Very similar structure to pielogy, pizza press, and blaze. Custom made pizza with unlimited meats cheese veggie toppings. They are also offer salads, making a pizza salad, cheesy garlic bread, and chocolate dessert. I do like they have a mini pizza that is 6 inches and standard size pizza that is 10 or 11 inches along with premade pizzas but you can also add additional toppings to those free of charge. Pricing very reasonable from 7-11 (rounding up on the change) Order 1 mini, 1 standard size, 1 premade, and 2 orders of garlic cheesy bread that I heard is amazing. Definitely they don't skimp on toppings and their garlic cheesy bread was indeed tasty, however eat the cheesy bread quick because the bread did get tough and cheese did get pretty solid at room temperature / cold. The crust on the pizza is thin and very crispy. My only complaint is that the cheesy bread comes with a choice of sauce and both orders did not have the sauce in it even though the wrapper did indicate what type of sauce should be in it otherwise I give this place 4 stars. Online ordering is easy for pick up, curbside, delivery, and they have a app for rewards. Horrible experience. We arrived at 6:35 pm. Didnt get a person to help till about 10 min later. We ordered and paid at 6:46. Tell me why our pizzas sat on the counter until 7:03 and us saying "where is our pizza" and 4 people who paid after us got theirs for them to put the pizzas in the stove???? It is now 7:07 and we still haven't gotten our pizza. "We have a lot of to go orders" is what the girl said. The people behind us plus a dozen walk ups got their food before us. We have a small child who needs to get to bed and they give us rude behaviors and rude comments, we can see them talking crap about us behind the counter. AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, we see one of the guys (the guy who made our pizza) lean down and spit on the floor. Disgusting. Purely disgusting. And there is no manager?? The customer service: I came in at 8:30, a solid hour and half before close, yet the staff seem to have an attitude or annoyed that they have to work. Better staffing choice would be recommended.
