As a former Massachusetts resident who now lives in Texas, there's a lot of things that I really miss. One of those things is fried Clams, the whole clam (minus the shell of course). For me, this place was one of the best ever for fried clams. I wish that I was staying longer on The Cape because their menu is freaking amazing. It's a really cool place to get your seafood fix. For one thing, they really have their act together with a great staff, skilled, attentive management including the owner watching every aspect of the operation. When you go there, don't be put off by the line, it moves quickly. You can also bring your own libations. Busy during the summer season, expect long lines. They are efficient at moving the queue along, and taking payment before you get your food. The food is typical simple, seafood dishes you would expect on Cape Cod. Unfortunately, when it's busy, the food is not necessarily delivered hot because of the delay from the kitchen to getting table delivery. Interesting decor where ever you look, great little gift shop next door that is part of the restaurant. Bring your own, Moby's will provide ice bucks which is a step above. Fair food prices on freshest seafood. Had the fried scallop plate, was so good we came back a few days later, no need to hunt down another restaurant. If you love horseradish then make sure to ask for some and mix into your ketchup to make your own level of spicy cocktail sauce. Owner came over to check on us which was nice, family owned. Came here with a group of 5 for dinner. I am happy to report that it's BYOB here. They even provided a nice bucket with ice to keep our drinks nice and cool while we waited. A hostess will ask if you want to sit outside or inside based on availability and your party size. Once you are inside you order and pay at the counter. They bring food out to your table. We ordered clam chowders, fish and chips, and oysters. The oysters were delicious! Clam chowder and fish and chips were okay. We really enjoyed our time and meal here. Alright, man, check it out! So, we cruised into this joint, right? It's like 5:30, and the line is so long, it's spilling out onto the street, man! But hey, we ain't worried, 'cause we called ahead, and they said it'd only be, like, 20-25 minutes. And guess what? Their estimate was, like, right on the money, man! Now, this place is different, you dig? After you wait in line, the next move is to order and pay up front. Then, they get on their little walkie talkies, talking to people in other rooms, trying to find you a table. It's like they're secret agents or something, man! And when your grub is ready, they bring it straight to you. Talk about efficiency, dude! But hey, don't think they don't have wait staff, 'cause they do! There are several cats in there making sure your every need is taken care of while you chow down. They got your back, man! And here's the kicker, dude! It's BYOB, man! Bring your own beer or wine, and you're good to go. I can drink premium craft beer that most restaurants don't even know exists. They even hook you up with a bucket, ice, and cups for your drinks. It's like a party in your mouth, man! So, I was jonesin' for some righteous oysters, you know? And what better place than Wellfleet for some Wellfleet oysters, man? Always great food, great employees and the owner is attentive to the customers. We had pesto oysters and they were great! Grill seafood is cooked perfectly and steamers and Lobster were perfect. It's nice that they have baked potatoes, corn on the cob and asparagus (other sides also) which is such a nice change from many seafood heavy restaurants where you can only get rice or fries. Moby Dick's is a Wellfleet institution. Like most places on the Cape, you place your order at the counter and are then seated, either inside or outside. The clams were nicely fried. My photo shows a double serving of cole slaw; it actually comes with fries. The staff comes from all over the world. Their name tags not only show their names but also the town and country they're from. One person was nicer than the next. During the busy season, there is a line to get in, but it moves fairly quickly. read more

As a 15 year customer who even has pics on the board and Merch I am sad to write this review. Moby dicks has always been a great part of our cape cod visits and we plan at least two dinners there. we ate there July 1 and 3. I know seafood costs are up but the fried combo wa platters were really expensive and light on seafood especially whole belly clams that were strips and our two platters had different amounts of different seafood. The fries were soggy and we were not able to have the tables we wanted both times. The second visit I asked for shrimp only skewer but told they couldnt and corn cobs were overdone. The shrimp with steak looked like there were from a diner. servers werent as friendly/helpful either. We loved this spot! Service was fantastic- the staff in general couldn't have been nicer/friendlier. The line moves so quick (10-15min wait) and the inside space is no frills/ local type feel. They also have an adorable gift shop next door! For dinner we weren't too hungry and tried the clam chowder (YUM) - it was seriously delish and the potato pieces were somehow al dente? This restaurant received 4 and 1/2 "bones" on the "BringFido" app. Extremely kind staff and servers. And the manager came out to thank people (and pups) for choosing to visit. I would have liked to have a little something to order or a special treat for my pup. Everyone was extremely kind. I have been going to this place for years. I was surprised at the the ease in getting the table for four on a Saturday night in July. Our table was at the far end of the building. With the bright Sun It was almost impossible to see the people sitting across from me. Fortunately I had Sunglasses with me. Still extremely difficult with to see. They had shades down on all but two windows but unfortunately they did not have shades for the windows affecting our table. I have had Clam chowder many times. I order it tonight and it was more like Clam broth without any Clams. It was vet good at one time but they seemed to have lost the recipe. The Swordfish was about a thick as a slice of bread. The best restaurant I have ever been to. My family comes to cape cod every year for two weeks and last year I think we literally went here every night. So like 14 days strait. It's also not just the food, although it's delicious, the vibe of this place is of the carts! You really can't find a corner of this place that is not decorated with cape cod related stuff. This has to be one of the weirdest dining experiences ever. First you order and pay at a counter when you walk in then they ask where you want to sit, we opted for the "more intimate" area. Lol I guess when elevator music is playing it's considered intimate even with paper plates, plastic forks and cups. The servers (with their fake English accents) would not stop coming up to our table to ask if we needed anything, and we would say we are just waiting for our dinner, one even came up and asked if we were ready for dessert before we had even been given our lobster! Stopped here on our way back from P-Town and I'm so glad we did. We were immediately greeted and explained how things worked there. We ordered our food and found a table outside. The place is very clean and seems organized. Our food was incredible. 10/10. Even the kids were impressed. All staff kept checking in to see if everything was okay. We really felt a "family vibe" there and felt almost like we were visiting family if that makes sense. Decided to try the key lime pie for dessert as everyone around us was getting it. The options offered at Moby's are enough to leave you full and happy. Coming for the first time, which for us was many years back, requires patience when waiting to be seated. Time matters here and of course other restaurants. Another most important factor is (which I strongly emphasize), someone must place their order before being seated, which is done at the front counter upon entering. The waiter and waitress still operate the same, bringing out the drinks and food when ready. They'll also accommodate refills as well throughout. There are so many decorations to be seen all around pertaining to the Cape, and it's something to admire especially history while eating. read more

Everyone was super nice, attentive, and friendly, BUT for a seafood place to serve broken clams and sandy steamers is just unacceptable. More of a tourist trap with a gift shop than an actual restaurant. The bloomin onion and salads were good which was surprising considering it really wasn't their specialty. After a beautiful sunset walk on the Great Island Trail off Chequessett Neck Rd, in Wellfleet, we were ready for great local seafood. My wife was looking forward to a chunky lobster roll and my daughter and son both had a hankering for fish and chips, Moby Dick's was an obvious choice as the parking lot always appeared full and it was close to where we were staying. As we approached the restaurant, Lance from Cape Town South Africa welcomed us, explained their dining process and handed us a menu as we waited in the short queue to go inside the restaurant. Once inside, Madison from Mussel Shoals Alabama graciously took our order, provided a recommendation for Fried Dill Pickles and processed our payment. We ordered the Oyster Pesto (i.e. Wellfleet oysters) appetizer, Fried Pickles appetizer, Fish & Chips, and Lobster Roll platters. All the dishes were very delicious. In particular, the Lobster rolls were succulent, flavorful and served in generous portions. The Fish & Chips, tasted fresh, flavorful and tender; the Chips were left slightly under-salted, which is considerate for those who need salt restricted diets. This was the first time we tried Fried Pickles, and the pickles "danced on our tastebuds" and answered our question of how a fried pickle tastes like. The nautical decor and ambience felt fun and put us in a fitting mood for a restaurant aptly named Moby Dick, to enjoy hearty New England seafood. The staff was courteous, efficient and friendly as they came by our table. The restaurant manager was kind enough to stop by each table and ask if we were having a nice dining experience. First time I tried Moby Dick's. Stopped in during the week in late August. We ordered bowl of chowder, steamers, and lobster rolls. The chowder came out first, as requested, and was hot and very tasty. As we were finishing the chowder, the steamers came out. Truly some of the best steamers I have had. As we finished the steamers, our lobster rolls came out. Perfect timing for each meal! Lobster rolls were great and the staff were friendly and punctual. Finally made it here after driving by for so many years! We stopped in for lunch and the first impression was terrific - thanks to the super friendly and helpful staff. The lobster was a special and for an extra $12 it became a clam bake! Sold! We also ordered a special salad with grilled salmon. The salad greens were tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette along with candied walnuts, sliced Granny Smith apples, blue cheese crumbles and dried cranberries. The salmon was grilled perfectly...seasoned just right and rare in the middle. There was a smidge too much dressing for me, so I would get that on the side next time. They brought out the steamers first and they were absolutely delicious. Lobster was excellent and the corn on the cob was freshly shucked sweet. The potatoes were a bit under cooked, but as long as the seafood was solid, I was happy. FYI-place your order at the counter and choose a place to sit. They'll find you. We haven't eaten at Moby Dick's for a while because I was thinking that it's so chaotic, but it is going to become a must-visit from now on when we're down in Wellfleet. The parking lot is madness, but they now have kids guiding you where to park. They also created a line that moves quickly to guide people to the front counter to order, so that doesn't feel crazy. It's comfortable. Then after you order, they seat you. So, now I really love this spot. I love the way they're doing that crowd control. And the prices are really good. Food is delicious. We tried the chowders (seafood and clam), the impossible burger, salmon plates, and fish and chips. Everything was delicious. I also love, as I did the first time, that their waitstaff are from all over the world with nametags. I like that you can order dessert from the table too. Great spot! read more

Ate lunch here on a pre-season trip up the Cape. Solid clam shack menu, everything done the right way. Great service, great staff. I'm giving it a very strong 4. Best seafood on cape cod without a doubt (as someone who's spent her whole life coming to the cape). Best fried clam strips, not overly chewy and are perfectly tender. The steamers come with hot butter and are always gone within five minutes. The broiled cod sandwich, jumbo lobster roll, and chowder are a few more absolute staples. Greeting was great. The owner met us and found us a nice table outside with out of the wind with our dog and checked up on us after we got seated. He was great. Waitresses were attentive and helpful. However, we ordered fish-n-chips, and it was only average. "chips" were good...crispy and tasty but the cod was only so-so...no snap or extra seasoning taste. We ended up loading it with pepper and tarter sauce to get some taste. Prices were crazy! I guess "it's the Cape' but $25 for fish and chips??!!
