We have been coming to Moa Korean BBQ for a couple of years now, and the food has always been consistently delicious. Today's visit was no exception--we ordered the bossam, dolsot bibimbap, and a couple of cold Terra beers. Everything was incredibly yummy, and the banchan (side dishes) spread was as plentiful and fresh as always. What really makes this place special is the owner. She is always so warm and kind, and we were bittersweet to hear that she is retiring at the end of June. She will be deeply missed by the Pleasant Hill community! We are so happy for her and wish her the absolute best and a very happy retirement in her next season of life. Go show them some love before the end of the month! read more

Going out for Korean food with the girls is always a great time, and this has been our favorite spot for years. The service is always amazing, and every visit feels warm and welcoming--almost like going to a family member's house. This is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in the area. Taste like very homestyle cooking. The waitress is very friendly. We especially like the sautéed beef or chicken dishes. It has a very unique sauce on it. I have not seen this on the menu of other Korean restaurants. They always give you a lot of side dishes. Best value for a healthy filling lunch in the area. This place is decent if other spots are too busy. Small quiet place that has about 10 tables. The seafood pancake was too soft, under cooked, and had tiny pieces of octopus. I've had better. Had an amazing feast here on a Friday night. Service was excellent even though we had a large table. We ordered variety of entrees including some of our usual suspects. Most memorable would be their fresh made kimchi. It's not on the menu, but they served us two full plate of fresh kimchi. All I needed was a bowl of rice and I was in heaven. Forgot to take pictures so I was bummed too. Their pork belly, seafood pancake, and spicy beef soup was also excellent. My goto for next time. Surprisingly good kalbi for lunch! This is a no frills sit down place for meals. We got a table with no wait. There was a bit of wait as there was only one service staff for lunch. What a was a musty smell so we ate outside, which was nice the was very pleasant and friendly. Hello, the meat was ok, the mackerel was basically smelly and tough and apparently they have reused too many times as the whole plate smelled like fish, even the add one! We had hardly any wait from the time we ordered to the time our food arrived. I ordered the Bulgogi and hubby ordered the Daeji Bulgogi. Their bulgogi is always well seasoned and they always give you a good amount of side dishes. Their rice cakes are good but nothing you can't get anywhere else. MOA KOREAN BBQ IS ELITE! ^_^ This is the best Korean spot when I need something nearby. I live in Fairfield, CA and I have other spots to choose from but i'm going to choose Moa every time. The service is a 10/10, the waitress was being so sweet to these to children behind us. On top of that she was very attentive and kind. To be honest, I've never had bad service here. One thing I would suggest is maybe playing some background music for some ambiance. The restaurant is quite quiet otherwise when it's no so busy and no other tables are talking. This past Friday my sister and I had a little sister dare and got the stir fried gob chang ( beef intestine), the ghe jang (raw marinated crab), nang myun (cold noodles) and kalbi short ribs. AGAIN IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED THEIR RAW MARINATED CRAB YOU'RE MISSING OUT! The crab is SO sweet and the sauce on it you'll definitely want to take home! Super yummy with the rice! I'm so happy we found a Korean restaurant that offers lunch special on Saturdays. We ordered the spicy pork lunch special and galbi (Korean short rib) lunch special. The spicy pork was super delicious and cooked to perfection. It was savory, spicy, and slightly sweet; it was perfect with steamed rice. The galbi was good as well. Our plates were also adorned with some side dishes including pickled shredded radish, bean sprouts, and pickled cucumber. They also gave us Korean side dishes (banchan) to share that included japchae, fish cake, kimchi, seaweed & onion. The spicy pork plate was $13 and the galbi plate was $17 as of March 2024. Really nice, family owned, hard-working place that serves proper style Korean food. Dropped by on Monday (and yes, they do work on Monday unlike most of other places) and were pleasantly surprised by the speed of service, number of customers and quality of food. Affordable prices for a lunchtime were also a gig. Hot tea was served by the time we got seated, food started arriving 7 minutes after our order with the main course arriving in about 15 minutes of us being there. Great flavors of kimchi lid up our appetite for a deliciously spiced Soon tofu and Bulgoki, that we gladly shared. The place might use some designer touch, a bit more art, and furniture upgrade, however, does serve the need very well. First time here, and hope not the last. read more

Had a really yummy dinner at Moa Korean BBQ as always. This is one of our favorite Korean restaurants. We were happy to see that there was a steady flow of guests coming in the door on a Tuesday evening. The broiled pork (SamGyupSal) is the best, but tonight was really exceptional and flavorful. The soybean paste tasted like they make it in-house. We love the assortment of Ban Chan, especially me since I can't have anything spicy. I am surprised I have not reviewed this place. I've been here many times, but I think I was so ravenous that I ate my food before snapping a pic. Also, it has been years since I've been here, so that could be another explanation. I ate here with friends for a birthday dinner. It's a rather small restaurant, but don't let that fool you. The server was very kind and attentive. Before we ran out of water, she already had another bottle of water ready to go. She also paid attention to our free side dishes and refilled the ones we wanted. Normally, my go to dish is Sogoki Bok Um (Beef with sautéed veggies). But it was cold tonight so I went for Soondobu. I still recommend this as an entree dish and go medium spicy if you can handle it. It's the perfect meal for me. Soon Tofu Soup: This was my first time eating this dish here. I have had soondobu at other restaurants but here they did an exceptional job. The soup came out bubbling hot (and I accidentally burned my tongue :( ). The soup was flavorful and there was a healthy mix of meat and veggies, as well as the soft soon tofu. With a bowl of rice, it felt satisfying eating this on a cold night. Overall, I need to come back here and eat again. Price is pretty fair and quality is great. read more

1.5/5 rounded up to 2 for the Kalbi It was cold and rainy and we were craving tofu soup. Moa came up on Yelp as a highly rated choice, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. First of all, we had mediocre customer service. There's also no offering of refilling the banchan here whatsoever. On top of that, our server actually came to check in on us, and then just took away our empty banchan plates without a word. Why is she clearing our plates in the middle of our meal? +/- Kalbi was decently good, standard taste for good kalbi. Portion size (I would say around 10 ribs?) is alright, given inflation, but still pricy-ish at around $30. - We opted to order Soon Tofu with beef. I asked for the spicy level, but I feel like they just dumped as much gochugaru powder in there as possible- look how red it is. Somehow, though, it was still not flavorful at all. There is no egg added as well. It was also mostly tofu, and barely any beef/veggies. - Banchan: one of the worst I've had around the Bay. Fish cake was soggy, so seemed old. Kimchi was very acidic, and tasted store bought (Costco?), and the rest of the side dishes were on the blander/more acidic/vinegar-y side. Overall, disappointing banchan across the board. Unfortunately, I have to say that I will not be back nor can I recommend this place. There are tons of better Korean restaurants out there in the Bay. read more

5 STARS...BEST raw crab I have ever had at any Korean restaurant. I ate until my belly couldn't fit anymore...and then I unzipped my pants to eat more. It's sooooooooo good and addictive. We also had fried oysters. Delicious and the order came with 24 fried oysters!!! So many morsels of pure delight in my mouth!!!! I enjoyed the kalbi. Not sure if we actually finished it since everything else was so good. The banchan (side dishes) kept being refilled and we kept eating. It was some good eating!!!! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for dangerously addictive authentic Korean food. Just keep in mind, it's a small family run restaurant. What I love about this place is that it's open until 9pm whereas a lot of other restaurants in the area close around 7-8pm. The layout of the building is almost like 1 long hallway, but the space isn't too narrow that you'd have trouble walking through. There is 1 unisex bathroom located in the back and it is kept fairly tidy. You can never go wrong with ordering a spicy tofu soup, in my opinion. We had 2 orders of the soup ($10)and rice comes separately. We also ordered spicy rake cakes as the appetizer, which was $15, though unfortunately this had to be the most unique tasting rice cakes I've ever had. The taste wasn't my favorite. I love coming to this place! Each time I've been here, my experience here has been great. Great food and problem-free service; I couldn't ask for any better. Today I finally had a chance to introduce my parents here to try it out! Here are the things we had: Banchan (side dishes) - I'm so obsessed with their banchan--it never misses! My personal favorites are the seaweed and fish cake banchan. The seaweed one might be an acquired taste for some, but I personally never get tired of it. Goon Mandoo (dumplings) - Warm, crispy, and fresh when it came to the table. It also came with a sauce that tasted like a mix of soy sauce and vinegar (maybe rice vinegar?) with green onions. I loved the hint of sweetness because it balanced out the saltiness and sourness. Bibim Nang Myun (spicy cold noodle soup) - Even though it was a cold rainy day, the cold noodles really hit the spot. I loved the flavor of the sauce--it was spicy, savory, and a bit sweet, which makes me like this version over other places that serve this. I'm just a huge fan of the savory-sweet combo that Korean cuisine has! The garnish of egg, pickled radish, Korean pear, and cucumber really brought everything together. Saewoo Jjige Soup (prawn stew with tofu) - It tasted like comfort food! It felt light on the stomach and the flavors weren't overpowering. It was just right. The only complaint is that the prawns were a bit overcooked, but other than that, I enjoyed the broth, the assortment of vegetables, and the tofu. Bibimbap - You can never go wrong with bibimbap. The flavors of the vegetables, rice, and meat just work so well together. When in doubt of what to get, go with bibimbap. It will definitely fill your tummy up. The serving size is very generous! We ordered the fried oyster appetizer Galbi, and galbi tang. Everything came out super hot and tasted amazing! The galbi was tender and flavorful and the portion was generous. The galbi tang was amazing, so warm and filling and comforting. One of the best I've had! The banchan was also really delicious and we loved that we got two separate broccoli banchans. You must try their seafood and kimchi pancake here! Very few places make it right - the perfectly balanced blend of cake vs seafood/ kimchi... pan fried into a crispy outer crust and softer and flavorful on the inside. These are my must order items each and every time. The Galbi is also on point though I find it a bit pricey. ;) Soft tofu soup and noodles are all also consistently good. What misses the mark a bit for me is their ban chan... the kimchi is too salty and not fermented enough, and the fish cake is too thin and dough (my 2 favorite ban chan's).., but I'm not complaining about them as they are complementary with free refills. Their service is prompt and friendly. Seating is comfortable and fairly roomy. Overall always a consistently good, fresh meal here always. read more
