Apple Fritter
Kevin C.

I'd been wanting to try this spot for a while and finally made an excuse to stop by after dinner for dessert. One thing that stood out right away is that they stay open late until 9 PM every day, which is rare for a donut shop that makes everything in-house. Of course, coming at night meant that some of the best-sellers, like the French crullers, were already gone, but I was still able to grab an apple fritter, a Boston cream donut, and a crumb-style donut. The prices here are very affordable, especially considering the donuts are freshly made. Parking is mostly metered spots out front, but if you drive into the side streets, you can find free parking. Inside, there are some tables if you want to sit and enjoy your donuts, and they also serve sandwiches. A fun little touch is the instant ramen shelf, which gives the place a bit of character. The lady running the shop was incredibly kind and friendly, with a warm smile that made the visit even better. She took the time to chat and was very welcoming, which gave the place a comforting, neighborhood feel. Out of the ones I tried, the apple fritter stood out the most--it had a great balance of crispy edges and soft, doughy inside with a nice glaze. The crumb donut was incredibly light and fluffy, with a sweet, crumbly coating that added just the right amount of texture. The Boston cream donut had an airy texture with a strong vanilla custard filling. I didn't care much for the chocolate glaze on top, as it wasn't as rich as I would've liked, but the filling inside made up for it. Overall, I enjoyed what I tried and definitely plan to come back in the morning to get a fresh French cruller. Based on the photos from other customers, they look amazing, and I'd love to see what the shop has to offer when everything is fully stocked.

A solid donut spot. Not the best donut ice ever had, it's just a typical neighborhood donut shop. Donuts ($3.70 total): 1 large chocolate donut & 6 donut holes. After being warmed up, donut has a soft and fluffy center, slightly crispy exterior from the sugar, and a good amount of chocolate on top. It's not too heavy or sweet, although the center is a bit too oily. Logistics: -street, metered parking -accepts cash and card -has some seating

Basic donut 5/5, large, soft and fluffy with a nice sugar coating. Not too sweet; perfect! My family loves coming here for donuts. We've only tried their basic donut, but everything else looks really good too.

Donut and coffee located on this mid-section of Geary. Okay donuts. I personally prefer ones from All-Star but this is okay. Nice service, clean store.

Came here early Sunday morning and the case was full of donuts. No line and the lady working was friendly. Reasonable prices here for donuts! Good variety as well. Got an assortment of 18 classic donuts that looked pretty appetizing - properly raised and not over glazed. I enjoyed one of the raised glazed donuts - it was airy and light with a good amount of chewiness. Not too sweet, just how I like it! There was a slight oil taste but not too noticeable. Overall, a good classic spot for donuts. Inside has a good amount of seating.

Came here around 5:30 on a weekday. They had plenty of donuts left. We got half dozen and some specialty donuts - filled and twisted donuts. And some dozen donut holes too. A great selection even at the end of the day. Will definitely come back again. The lady at the counter was so nice!

The donuts taste like they've been sitting there for a few days don't get the bear claw either. I would probably not come back here again.

Cafe by the beach? Sure…read more OCB is a popular local coastal beach cafe at Ocean Beach, San Francisco. They offer a wide variety of drinks, pastries and breakfast. Indoor and outdoor atmosphere was very North Cal, chill, relaxed and hip. I came mid-morning to grab a hot Jasmine Green Tea. And it was okay. Service was spot on. Staff were attentive and professional. Parking is atrocious but there is a public parking lot right by the beach. Prices are fair. Overall, it's a nice coffee shop a block fr the beach. I recommend you visit.

We stopped in to ask about…read moreomelettes and the staff members recommended we head a few doors down to TJ Cafe, which we did, (see separate review). I just gave it 5 stars becuse everybody else has and I see no need to bring down the rating.) On the way back to our car from TJ Cafe, i noticed, through the window, that the wall of bottles was actually topped by a big sign saying non-alcholic! Having been a member of a non-drinking community since 1962, I was fascinated to see such display and dropped in to check it out We spent some 15 minutes with Josh, an ex-bar tender, explaining his philosophy on the social need for community life withoug depending on alcohol (See his Youtube channel: "Josh the non-Alcoholic" for more on this). Josh gave my wife a free cup of coffee since TJ Cafe down the road had no had free refills, and we entered a draw to win a bottle of non-Alcoholic French wine. Josh surprised us by telling us that the French wine industry is going big on non-alcoholic wines. I bought a can of Vanua Bliss - a Mango flavoured Kava drink - vastly different from the Kava served to me during my 3 years stay on Tanna, New Hebrides (1977 to 1980) which was made by youth chewing the kava in their mouths, spitting it out on to a coconut sheath, then pouring water into it and squeezing it into a half shell of a coconut and cerimoniously handing it to you under the shade of a huge Nambunga tree as the twilight deepened! Such are memories made of. While Kava is not alcoholic, it does have some muscle relaxant properties and give a weird buzz of the tongue. I wish him well in his endeavour to allow the teetotaler community to enjoy the social aspects of drinks with their meals, without worring about the alcohol destroying our brain cell and livers!

With a hair appt two blocks away from A K Meats, a redo was in order. After 15+ years, I'm glad to finally knock this off my list. There's a reason that A K Meats, a small mom and pop shop has been around for over 25 years because it did NOT disappoint! For only $15.99, you get a generous portion of their Housemade NY-Style Pastrami....thinly shaved, tender, and moist with a rich, savory, meaty flavor that isn't overly salty. It's piled over melty swiss cheese and comes with a smear of mustard for a nice tang. I took it a step further and added pepperoncini (+$0.75) - I love that the pepperoncini is shaved so thin, giving you just enough acidic punch without that strong mouth-puckering hit. A roll is the way to go for structural integrity and if you plan to save the other half for dinner. If you're looking for a top-notch hot pastrami sandwich, IMHO, A K Meats is worth trekking across the city for. It beats waiting in line at a certain AI/tech-bro fav in SoMa. Don't get me wrong...their sandwiches are good but paying $30 out the door AND enduring 45 minutes to 1 hour of pre-seed, valuation, and burn rate chatter in line is brutal. Ya girl wants TEA, not TAM! O T H E R I N F O * A K Meats is a butcher shop and seafood counter. They also sell pantry items, snacks, and bottled drinks. * The wife & husband duo also own 25th/Clement Produce Market next door. * Takeout only but they have two tables and bench seating outside. * Their POS bypasses the tip option so bring cash! * No restroom onsite. * Street parking is doable on the weekdays.

The omelletes were actually OK - if they'd been served on a china plate, with a lettuce leaf and orange slice garnish or something, I would probably have given them 4 stars - but on a paper plate with a plastic fork? And no free refills on the coffee? No doubt, if quick in and out food is your need, this place will suffice, but for a nice beach front atmosphere in a comfortable space with good attentive service on a Sunday morning, look elsewhere. Their website says they are a "charming eatery nestled in San Francisco, known for its cozy ambiance and delicious comfort food". Bare walls, linoleum flooring, black vinal and chrome chairs and tables are not what I call charming or cozy - but the comfort food might be delicious, however my wife and I can only say that the omlettes were good enough!
