Best place to buy a donuts, made fresh everyday

Clean bright donut shop, with huge dense crisp yet moist apple fritters ($2)! I always get one when I am in the area, and feel like I get so much more sugar/fat/dough for my money than all those $4 crappy dry cupcake places in SF. Walking by a donut shop, always have to stop. My donut barometer is always a plain old fashioned. There's is fantastic - fresh tasting and not at all stale - even though it was end of day. the donut shops on clement have nothing on golden donut! the apple fritter is perfectly crafted; packed with apple and just enough cinnamon. i've routinely had (geeky) extended conversations about how amazing they are. the chocolate old-fashioned glazed donuts are good, and second only to krispy creme. a lot of choco donuts are usually cakey and dry, or taste like knock-off cocoa mix... also, the woman that works there always tosses in a few extra donut holes or treats for free! read more

Two words...APPLE FRITTER. Every Sunday. Cheap thrill. I dream about them during the week. I have to have an internal dialogue with myself before I walk into Golden Donut, because the whole display case is filled with fresh yummies in a million varieties. They look (and taste) like perfection. In a perfect world where calories wouldn't exist, I would eat the apple fritter AND the creme and jelly-filled AND the maples AND maybe some chocolate glazed. Had to write a review after the sweet lady at the counter gave us two free donuts! My boyfriend and I could smell the donuts around the corner in the parking lot behind the shop and we couldn't resist going in to check it out. It was near the end of the day so I didn't know what to expect from the quality of the donuts but we decided to order a half dozen anyways. Our total came out to be under $7 and the lady ringing us up gave us two free donuts as well! The donuts were pretty big, not too oily, and not overly sweet! I stopped here to get donuts for some guys that were working on a project at our home. I figured I would get some donut holes for the family. I didn't realize they were cash only, no credit cards so fell a couple of bucks short. The proprietor gave us the donuts anyway. THE BEST!! My husband says this place has the best glazed buttermilk bars. I totally agree! They are fresh, dense and moist with generous glaze. Personally, I love apple fritters and get one whenever I am in a donut shop. The fritters here are perfectly done: large, crisp on the outside and deliciously doughy on the inside. The old fashioned donuts are always fresh also. When we are in the neighborhood, it isn't even a question whether or not to stop by. It's a classic donut shop run by a friendly, hard-working lady. Everything I've ever ordered here has been stale. The coffee is bad. I don't know why I kept coming back. I guess every few months, when the lines are long at other places, I disregard my previous experiences and try again? Never again. Holy shizz...so freaking good. Immediately walked over to this place after an unfortunate pho event to make amends with our tummies. I ordered some chocolate buttermilk looking thing and my friend Jack ordered a french style glazed. Both were $2.50, which I thought was pricey for a donut, but it was definitely worth it. The chocolate covered buttermilk donut was flaky on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. Sugary but not too sweet, and very buttery. Definitely fried, lol. The french style donut tasted just like funnel cake, aka it was AMAZING. I try not to eat donuts too often, but if and when I decide to unleash the beast/professional fat kid in me I will happily make the walk to this place! read more

You get the general assortment of donuts here: cake, old fashion, crullers, bars, in all the traditional flavors of chocolate, glazed, maple, sugar, cinnamon. They only take cash though. I have to say this place has been around for a long time. I totally forgot about them since we don't come here often, but this has got to be the only place that gives you an extra donut when you buy a dozen. Although they are super honest, will tell you if you buy two more or one more, it'll be cheaper. Even though I didn't want any, she was still nice to give me one for free. Good old fashion donuts. Serves Noah's bagels :) flavored and regular coffee, espresso drinks, tons of cold drinks (there are 3 fridges full of juice and milk and soda), and donuts and pastries of course. The people who work here are so nice, they gave us an extra donut for free for no reason, and one guy got up in the middle of his break to wipe down a table for us. read more

Donuts are often stale, but they give you 2 for 1 when they are. I think the pastries are made from frozen dough, and they don't taste nearly as good. I have seen the poor tomatoes in the refrigerator, even in cool weather, which makes them mealy and is a good reason to avoid a sandwich. Overall, not that good. read more

Only patronized this donuts shop 2x...the latest of 2nd visit was scammed by Asian lady who claimed ignorant and refusal to give change for the purchase (Sun 08/23/2015) after register box was closed. She had admitted to be forgetful with returning changes from cash purchases. In the end, as with MOST Asian shops, cash-only and receipt is typically not giving for purchases. I really like this place, because it is convenient and the owner is super nice. I would try to come when I can as long as I am not in some sort of diet or healthy eating mode. The reason for the 3 stars is because the donuts are just like any other donut shop you can find. There is nothing wrong with it. It still hits the spot when you want a donut. But at the same time do not expect it to be any better than any other donut shop you can find. I was actually quite disappointed with the cinnamon roll, but I do like their french twist (when they have it) or standard glazed donuts. read more

I'm really surprised by how high the rating for this place is. I've been in here twice and both times the donuts have been just horrible. Granted, they were kind of old- I didn't come in right when they were being made, but I've had plenty of donuts that have aged better than what you'll find here.
