One of my favorite things about Simple Pleasures Café is that, to my knowledge, it's the earliest-opening coffee shop in the Central/Outer Richmond area (6am daily!) It's become a reliable go-to when I need a quality cup of coffee first thing in the morning. I've tried their dirty chai latte, vanilla latte, and regular house coffee and everything has been consistently good and served quickly. A huge plus is that they roast their coffee next door, so everything tastes fresh and locally crafted. I haven't explored much of the food menu yet, but I did try one of the prepackaged burritos that they heat up from the grab-and-go case, and it was a surprisingly great find very flavorful and satisfying. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos, but I do recommend look forward to returning! Friendly service, fresh coffee, large indoor and outdoor space with plenty of seating options and convenient early hours make this a neighborhood staple worth checking out. read more

I come here on occasion.Its close to the Balboa theatre and is the latest open coffee house in the Richmond district. It's quiet has free wifi if you need it and good Hot coffee and sandwiches. Cakes and muffins and more. Very laidback with a few outside tables . Occasionally I can't seem to get the schedule they have live music which is nice especially for this end of town not much. This is a hidden gem that locals frequent. It is slightly out of the way for tourists, as it is in core residential area. But highly recommended. Small, cozy place. But even house coffee is awesome. In addition we took iced latte and mocha. Both were really good. Mocha was tad bit sweet, but not too much. We also had apricot pastry - which was huge and was sufficient for 3 of us. Tasty too. The place is small and in an old bar setting but you should find place to sit. There are benches outside too, so if it is not too cold, you can enjoy the weather. read more

Walked in during late lunch hour on a weekday, no line. Stood at the register for a couple minutes and wasn't greeted by any of the three people behind the counter, so felt a little ignored at first. The staff are friendly when interacting with customers though. Although there was a lot of people both inside and outside, I was able to find a seat in the back next to a wall outlet. A small mosquito bugged me for a bit throughout my stay. Ordered a pastrami panini sandwich. Took a while to come out, but it tasted good and was filling. read more

I was in town for a business meeting and was looking for a place to unwind and hang out after dinner. I dearly miss all the '90s coffee houses and thought what better city than SF to find something like this. I'm so glad I stumbled on this place. You're greeted with a chill spot to order your coffee, tea, or snacks, mixed seating arrangements of comfy couches to random tables and chairs, and people reading or working on their laptops. First time visiting and this is a great local spot. I would give the latte and the overall vibe of the cafe a 5, but the croissant a 3 (personal preference). The croissant was very large but not as flaky as I tend to like them. I think in the future I might try them for lunch, since they had beers and other drinks on tap that would make a pleasant afternoon. read more

Decided to not gate keep this place any longer- I ran in here before Outside lands a year ago to use their bathroom and get a pre-festival snack and boy was I blown away. Such a cozy experience and now make it a mandatory pit stop on my walks through the avenues. Great pastries and area to work or catch up with a friend. Has a college vibe yet also a place to find older generations reading ewspaper. Friendly service too & love the bulletin wall with events. read more

The coffee and pastries are delightful, but the sandwiches--especially the hot options--often come out soggy. The panini, in particular, is disappointingly limp rather than crisp and satisfying. I stopped in for the first time today with a friend and had a great experience. It's a charming cafe with lots of character with seating inside as well as a lot of spots to sit outside. I had a London Fog which was delicious and a sesame bagel with sun dried tomato cream cheese and veggies. It was toasted and very good! Veggies included olives, onions, lettuce, tomato. My friend enjoyed her coffee and bacon egg and cheese bagel. Staff was super friendly and they take credit card. Perfect way to start the morning and not far to walk to the ocean! read more

I love this place, amazing coffee and pastries, I came here to study at 9pm, under the impression they closed at 10pm and the barista did not let me know they were closing until after I got my drink. They're only open until 9pm now? Back in the mid-'90s, I used to visit this cafe every couple of weeks, and drink beer 'til the wee hours (way after 9pm!). And then afterwards stand outside like a goof waiting for a bus after midnight! I lived on 16th and Geary at the time, was in the SF State writing program, and all by myself in San Francisco. Taking a bus from Geary to Simple Pleasures was a fun night out for me. I'd start out writing/reading, then as the night went on, I'd meet a lot of people there to converse with. read more

I'm local to the neighborhood and I will always put Simple Pleasures as the top coffee spot on Balboa. That isn't to say anything negative about local spot, but SP is just the best all around. The coffee is always delicious. They support the community and the baristas. It is a great place to work and chill/read. The garlic bagels are underrated. Lastly, the baristas are very kind and energetic and never give anyone an attitude. I would recommend to anyone who comes to the neighborhood. If you're in the city looking for a good latte that isn't over powered by the cream then this is the spot. My go to order is a large iced vanilla latte with an extra pump of sweetener. 2023 being my maximist era, this café has checkered floors, random walk art, posters from eras ago. I'm getting teary eyed. I stopped by on a Friday morning, and it was mildly popping. Enough for a low chatter but not loud enough to not be able to read or study in their back room. Lots of seating on a Friday at 7:00 AM. The staff is friendly without being overly chattery (I guess that's important for me?) Drinks range between $3-5. Alt milk is extra. Bagels range between $3-7. They serve sandwiches and alcoholic drinks as well. I got a london fog which was made just right and very hot. It wasn't very sweet, so if you have a sweet tooth I'd ask for extra syrup. It was my first time here . This place is awesome. You can sit in this cafe and just look at the walls and take pictures. There are lots of pictures and posters and arts from years and years ago hanging all over the place . I loved it not because of their drinks and pastries but just because of its atmosphere. How SF Cafe's use to be in 80's & 90's Super bohemian vibes and kind people of all walks of life. We came out here after our Seacliff Ocean Beach walk. Loved my Chagaccino and Gluten Free Pastry. Best when foggy. Oh Huge: They are open from 6am- 9pm! Great place to hang out. They also serve cold beer! Oh I just noticed peeps have one hiccup they write a one star review and take things so personal. This is a legacy SF place roasting beans since 1978 and going nowhere. Staff super nice to ALL. Stopped by this little bagel and coffee shop the other morning looking for an easy breakfast option, this was the only place open during this current pandemic environment. The place is small but markers and social spacing is enforced, face covers are required. All of the staff are covered and gloved as well. This new odd normal has definitely and obviously changed this business. No longer is inside seating allowed, and the outside has been paired down to just the built in wooden benches and a singular table. The line moved quickly, my order taker friendly and kind, a large cup of coffee and a scrambled egg with cheese and bacon bagel. I paid, got my cup of java and went back outside to wait for my breakfast sandwich. It may have taken a bit longer than normal? But all considering and the fact that after driving and looking for blocks for anything open, I take it! I can not stress how impacted this neighborhood has been effected by the shut down and now current environment. My coffee was strong and hot just the way I like it and my poppy seed bagel sandwich was as well, and it definitely served its purpose for nurishment the morning of my visit. 3.5 Stars - Rounded up for being open and a good cup of coffee when everybody else was closed 00704 read more
