Update to a Formerly Glowing Review This is an update to what was once a glowing review of my beloved Pizzahacker. I've been going for many, many years (close to 10--or more?), so it pains me to say that some changes under new management have shifted the experience for me. Jeff Krupman, the founder and chef (who ended up being a friend!) sold the business to one of his longtime employees a year ago or more ago. (He still owns the Mill Valley location). While they tried to keep a lot of things the same h feel noticeably different. It's interesting that it still shows his name as manager. Here's what I've noticed--not in a good way: The menu now feels overwhelmingly meat-forward, with a dearth of thoughtfully designed vegetarian pizzas. I have mentioned this to Jesse (longtime staff) and a female server, asking them to pass this along. Each pizza also seems to have several more ounces of (still very delicious sourdough) dough. The crust is significantly thicker, and there's simply more of it. What once felt light and beautifully balanced now feels heavier. Vegetarian options are largely reduced to subtraction of meat . I've spoken with longtime waitstaff (including Jesse) and asked that this feedback be shared with Juan, the new owner. One server suggested I could just order a pizza without the meat. But a thoughtfully composed vegetarian pizza is very different from a meat pizza with ingredients removed--and at $24, paying full price for a pizza minus its main topping feels unfair. Perhaps there could be a cheaper option availabile for meaty pizzas without the meat. Please consider making The Summer Fave year round, bringing back the Inside Out, and/or creating more pizzas that don't center around multiple meats. Also, I know that the new management has changed some of the ingredients that made their pizzas so special and delicious. In particular, the sausage on the Yo Vinny, which used to be house made is now closer to the generic sausage you'd find at Pizza Hut. Loses so much of the experience to change to these cheaper ingredients. (I lean vegetarian as much as possible but make occasional exceptions, so I know this!) I used to go to Pizzahacker weekly and look forward to it with genuine excitement. Now, while I still enjoy the occasional pizza, that sense of anticipation is gone. I do want to say I'm grateful that my beloved Intermezzo salad remains unchanged--and I still care deeply about this place. I love PH--please consider the earnest pleas of a longtime customer who has eaten there many dozens of times. read more

When you peruse the menu there are lots of choices and combos and they all have cute names. We have been eying this place in the Mission and ordered three pizzas to go yesterday. One was great and two were meh. Expensive for the size, too. The space is cute if you eat in, though. read more

This review is for their delivery. Living close to the area we were able to get our food delivered relatively fast (I want to say ~30-40min). Our order arrived still hot. My partner ordered the Yo Vinny: marinated onions, mama lop's pickled goat horn peppers, house-made hot Italian sausage, tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, parsley. I ordered the Puttanesca: Kalamata olives, tomato sauce, capers, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, smoked salt, and Calabrian chilli paste. It also comes with anchovy but I asked to have it without. Both of our pizzas had nice kicks to it and the sauce was delicious. The thin crust is perfection. If you're someone who does not like spicy, then I would omit the chili paste on the puttanesca and no peppers on the Yo Vinny. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, and if I could have, I would have eaten it all in one sitting, but I was trying to be a good girl. You get six slices worth with every pizza. It's really some of the best pizza I've had and I will continue to order from them. Highly recommended. read more

A group of 10 of us came in to eat after having the worst experience at another pizza place up the street. Immediately greeted us as soon as we stepped in, quickly got a table ready for us. Let us settle in and then grabbed our drink orders. Came back in an appropriate amount of time for our group to take food orders. Appetizers came out in a timely manner, so did our pizza. We ordered the buffalo wings and sunburn pizza. I loved the pizza and wings. Ranch wasn't my favorite but I'm very picky about that. I felt like I was eating at a family members house with the care they gave us. read more

We ordered the Tamapais pizza plus added pepperoni...it was delish!! Amount of sauce and cheese was perf. I'm a fan of thin pizza, so this pizza is up my alley. Ambiance was chill and relax...seats were comfy. Server made a mistake and never put our order in, so we were waiting over an hour for our pizza. We were offered a free soda or something to drink. When we got the bill, there was nothing removed off the bill as some type of compensation for waiting so long. By writing this review, hopefully service can learn from this mistake and show a customer more empathy. read more

I came here a little lit the other night, and oddly enough, the thing I liked most was the kale ceaser salad. It was hella fresh and the dressing had to be house made. I also had the puttanesca pizza with the anchovies on the side, which was the right call, those can be so salty. Next time I would try a pizza with a bit more cheese on it. read more

I ordered two pizzas and didn't like either one. The first was a Margherita with added garlic. They used pre-minced garlic out of a jar or can, you know the kind you see at the store in a vinegar solution. That pizza had a strong vinegar overtaste that was unpleasant. The second pizza I had utilized their smoked provolone on it and this was the sharp kind of provolone I just can't eat, the smell is a turn off. Out of the two pizzas I ate about two slices of the margherita, a half slice of the other and threw the rest away. Let me also say I don't like their crust, its doughy and chewy but mostly tasteless. Other than burning the crust on the rocket man pizza , ie, the whole perimeter , 1', of the pizza was burnt on the underside of the pizza, leaving a pretty bad taste on the Rocket man, pizza, and possibly burning the onions on the shroomer. . . it was just another mediocre pizza. I used to make my own pizza since most places do not make a good crust...now i can oder with confidence I will have a good meal. It is really great pizza! Hands down best gluten free pizza - tried their classic margherita and the cheesy overflow made for a perfect crispy crust. Crust was light and airy, unlike most other dense and egg forward gluten free options (and I've had plenty). This place has really figured out how to make the best doughs, for pizzas AND bagels! Been here a few times and it's officially made it to my personal top 5 pizza places in SF (and there are a LOT of great pizza places in SF). It's a pretty unassuming place that's really easy to miss if you're just walking by, but inside is a super fun, cool, almost dive-y atmosphere with really chill and friendly staff members and customers ranging from families with kids to locals grabbing a quick pizza with a trendy draft beer. The crust is naturally leavened and extremely tasty on its own, and super crisp. You can tell they fire their pizzas super hot which is honestly the only right way to make pizza I think. The toppings and flavor combinations were so delicious and well balanced (I really liked the onions and peppers on the yo vinny). The meats are all locally sourced I think and you can tell by how delicious they are! The last time I came here, I was back the next day to pick up some bagels (which are also some of the best you can find in SF I think). It will definitely be a go to spot for a breakfast pick me up on the weekends. FYI , this is my review of a ToGoodToGo order. My pickup contained 4 Balls of Dough which made me very happy. Though I can easily craft a high hydration dough commonly used for Focaccia or a Grandma Pie, I struggle with making Balls of Dough so this was a great option for me. Pickup was easy, and parking achievable, the staff pleasant, and the dough sufficient for several meals (you can refrigerate dough it just gives it a slow fermentation) Regarding normal dinning, I liked what I saw it was a nice relaxed space, the prices seemed fair, and the pizza I saw being served looked yummy. As for the dough in the fridge, I have some good quality, meats and cheeses at home, plus of course pie plates, olive oil and herbs ready to be put to work. Saw this place mentioned in The Atlantic this week as a great place to get bagels in Bernal Heights, so we decided to check it out. We were not disappointed! Delicious bagels! We picked up bagel and lox to fill us up pre-hike and they were delicious. The everything bagel truly had everything on it, the lox was fresh, the cream cheese just right. We hadn't found a great bagel place in San Francisco, but now we have. The pizza here is stellar but their bagels are on a whole other level!! Their bagels are sourdough and are just the most perfect chewy texture. And every time I've been they've served me my bagel hot! Their cream cheese is also great, to me it seems to have sort of a sour cream flavor. Very very good pizza! We ordered delivery from here the other day and were pleasantly surprised by one of the better pizzas we've had in the city. My boyfriend and I ordered two pizzas - pepperoni onion (add garlic) and the pepp, sausage, mushroom pizza. This comes on a sourdough crust which is definitely Different and a bit more chewy (I've only had sourdough pizza once from Nicks in Oakland) but it was delicious all around. Even better, they sell dough balls for cheap! I made a pizza on it a week later (I froze it) and it was maybe the best (semi) homemade pizza I've made. Blows TJs crust out of the water! My son has a buddy we have over for regular play dates and he only eats pizza. I grew super tired of eating it and needed a change up. Found this place on DoorDash and decided to give it a shot as the pizzas weren't your run of the mill. We got the Shroomer add their homemade Italian Sausage, the Ohio, some wings and of course the Margarita for the kids. All of the pizzas were top notch and awesome flavor combos! I felt like the wing skin was a little chewy but I'm weird like that and everyone else loved them! The pizza dough was like a sourdough crust that was a little chewy and much appreciated!
