I came here to grab some lunch after meeting with a friend at Kiss of Matcha in North Beach. Since it was a Saturday afternoon, it was quite busy with a queue of people waiting to order and pick up. The line moved reasonably fast though. When it came time to order, I asked for a square each of combo and pesto veggie. After tapping to pay, the cashier gave me a paper receipt to sign and add an optional tip if desired. I thought this was a really inefficient use of time and effort and wish they just had an iPad like other businesses. Onto the goods...I really wanted to love this place, as another one of my friends had raved about their squares. However, I honestly thought the pizza was just okay. To be fair, I wasn't able to eat it fresh right after I got it. My parking meter was expiring, and unfortunately, I was parked in a zone with a strict 2-hour limit, so I had to move my car and wait until I got home to try the pizza squares. Still, I think they should've survived the car ride home without too much change in their quality. We ( my family) love this pizza. It's a late night snack. Prom was in SF, and this was a request from my teen. Crust is flaky, and crunchy at the same time. They do not skimp on the toppings. The pizza is sicilian style so the crust is thick and spongy. The layer of cheese and ingredients on top is thin. I learned that I do not like this style of pizza- I prefer top heavy with a lot of ingredients and a thinner crust. They also use very little sauce here. Clam & Garlic- this was almost like garlic bread with a hint of clam. I see a good amount of clams on there but it is masked by the garlic. Missing a good white sauce to tie it together. My only critique is that the flavors leaned a bit salty overall. I know pizza styles vary by region, but personally, I prefer a stronger tomato-forward sauce. I also appreciated how they wrap the pizza with the parchment paper inside out so that the red checkerboard design shows through as a nice background for photos. You line up on the right of the window to order and wait on the left side for your pizza. This place is strictly take-out and take both cash or card. The menu is simple and you can't go wrong with any slice. My favorite is always the combo slice from the corner of the pan. The slices are rectangular Sicilian slices aka Sanfrancilian! They are thick, cheesy, bready, and crunchy slices. You can order them by the slice or by the pan (call ahead if you plan to do that). Prices are very fair. Love the friendly staff and they always smile even when they are overrunned by the crowd of customers.
