We ordered the "Johnny Torrio" deep-dish pizza, which is loaded with Italian beef, Italian sausage, hot giardiniera, and peppadew peppers. The pizza was excellent; the generous amount of red sauce kept it incredibly flavorful without being dry. The mozzarella was perfectly chewy--not too wet--which really complemented the overall texture. I also loved the peppers, as they added a great spicy kick to the dish. Overall, it's an excellent spot! It's a smaller restaurant and we had a 40-minute wait for the pizza, so I'd recommend calling ahead for a reservation to ensure you're seated quickly.

Despite having a reservation, my time at Capo's felt a little rushed. We were done and dusted in just over an hour. I ordered an Italian soda but I suspect it was just sparkling water with some syrup added to it. The lasagne was quite bright and acidic, with lots of tomato sauce. The chicago style deep dish was the same - similar to Blue Line. If you love that flavor profile, you'll love it here.

What can I say? If you want to feel like you are the most loved at a dinner location then head over to Capos. They treat you and seat you like family. All Pies can be shared, for real, the sizes are insane! You cannot go wrong starting off with a Crisp drink from the bar, which is themed towards high crafted cocktails, and a full bar that specializes in whiskey! For starters, order the garlic bread, 7.5/10 or meatball appetizer 11/10, either way, you will be FULL JUST FROM THE APPS. Moving to entree, if you aren't getting a Detroit style pie, please order the thin cracker crust Margherita!!! It's unmatched, so good! The pizza isn't just pizza, it's beautiful and delicious 11/10 There is no room for dessert ever, but if you eat it family style, anything is possible!

The overall rating for this restaurant is a 4 but the food specifically is closer to a 3 or 3.5! The service was good so that was nice and we like the ambiance that was also a plus. It gave an old school Italian joint vibe like many places in that area, booths, tables bar and arches. We finally decided to try a deep dish pizza after years of saying no, unfortunately its not our thing & not even close to matching NY style pizza or Square pizza bummer. The one thing on the deep dish I enjoyed was the crust it wasn't too thick & had good crispiness/ flavor. Pasta bake was bland and absolutely tasted like something I make at home all the time. It needed less chunky cheese and more finesse. The two apps were good but not super flavorful or stand out. The only thing I really enjoyed was the artichoke dip and that was a bit runny. It was fun trying a different spot but not likely to return.

Best. Deep Dish Pizza. Ever. I have had Capo's bookmarked for years and finally visited for the first time. Walking in Capo's is like being transported to the days of prohibition with Al Capone. An old school speakeasy that is mafia themed, with photos of old mob bosses and well appointed bar & dining areas. There's also seating available outside to enjoy the nice summer weather in North Beach. But how was the food? Old Chicago Deep Dish: the crust at Capo's is the best I've ever had in a deep dish. The meatballs, red sauce mixed with the ricotta was creamy, comforting, and hearty. The combination of textures and flavors made it the best deep dish pizza I've ever had. Thin crust tavern style pizza: crispy, thin crust with a nice thin layer of red sauce and cheese. Nice, light, tasty, and crispy pizza. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Top notch service and it was great to meet Tony. A must eat spot for deep dish and if you are in North Beach.

Capo's never disappoints. We stopped in right when they opened at 4:30 on Valentine's Day without reservations and were lucky to grab seats at the bar. By the time we left two and a half hours later, the place was packed. We started with a charcuterie platter and a great bottle of wine. The bar service was outstanding friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. One of the bartenders insisted their Caesar salad was the best in the city... he wasn't wrong. Absolutely fantastic. We also shared a 10-inch Italian cracker-crust pizza that was perfectly crisp and full of flavor. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Capo's continues to be one of our favorite spots in the city.

Very solid Italian food!! We came here once for pizza and the second time for pastas. Staff were great. They have a good happy hour too which I love! I got the vodka pasta and it was a huge portion. Like this one dish can feed multiple people or provide many meals for leftovers. I think one thing I would prefer is for the vodka pasta to be creamier but I do think it being more tomato based makes it lighter, so depends on what you like. It's a solid spot and I will be back!

We've super pigged out here so many times! I can't believe I've never written about Capo's until now. First off the service is amazing. Drinks and timing just hit. Let's get a buzz and order way too much! We're big guys so they put us into a booth/table that was pretty comfy, though a little tight. Our biggest guy sat outside the booth so it worked out! Deep dish is where it's at! So many delicious choices. Instead of being trivial about what to order, we ordered way too much. F that cracker thin BS we went full on, deep dish and cast iron ftw! Gawd so good, but enough for 8 but we 4 so here we are. Meanwhile, Tony Gemigani opened up Slice House here in San Diego. No deep dish but amazing pizza to be had. Thank you Tony! Now bring them deep dishes to San Diego!

So many great reviews and we wanted a great Italian dinner for our last night in SF. Thankfully I got reservations online because this place gets busy. When we walked in it felt like we were transformed back to old Chicago. The plush leather seats, dark atmosphere and mobsters pictures on the walls. The staff were awesome! Our server was "N" but can't remember her name. Spectacular She was helpful and so friendly. We decided on a couple glasses of wine (very tasty too) and the Caesar salad. When it came out my eyes bulged out. It's HUGE!!! Omg it was scrumptious with fresh Parmesan and the anchovies on top. LOVED IT! She helped us pick the Old Chicago (think cracker crust). The deep dishes were way too much for us to finish. It didn't take long to come out and it was simply amazing as well. Loved every single bite. You have to stop here for the food, atmosphere and service!

We came to Capo's during our visit to San Francisco, and did not disappoint. We had a reservation for our large party, and were seated immediately. The decor gives a bar vibe (there is also a bar), there are decorations that are scattered and a whole old school phone booth in the back of the restaurant. The highlights are DEFINITELY the portion sizes and the incredible flavors of the pizzas! There are options of type of pizza - which we went with a deep dish. The salad, wings, and pastas were delicious. Highlights: - BBQ Wings- the order felt large and the wings were filled with meat and sauce! We didn't ask but I wish we had also tried the Buffalo and halving our order. - Pasta - classic spaghetti- super good and large portion - Pasta - penne al vodka - loved this option as it was plentiful

If it's pizza from chef Tony, you know it's gotta be good. Just a fact of life! Capo's transports you from the west coast to the streets of Chicago where deep dish and tavern style reign supreme. We tried the cracker thin tavern pizza since you can do half and half and try more flavors. The crust was so crunchy, and the toppings were just mouthwatering (how could you not like ricotta and sausage hello?) Atmosphere inside is lively and was full of all different kinds of groups when we dined there.

Motorhead deep dish pizza

Mindblowing !! Tried their motorhead deep dish pizza ( full size ) . It was excellent & so filling. We turned out too full after eating just 3 slices between the 2 of us. Service was so fast too, we didn't expect our pizza to come earlier than expected. Gonna try their other flavors next time , probably the thin crust .

The Bootlegger
Jasa M.

my group and i got here right when they opened and got a table outside very quickly! the staff instantly greeted us and got our drink orders started. 5 of us (including my two year old) shared the bootlegger pizza and the spaghetti with meat sauce. we all LOVED the pizza! the vodka sauce on the pizza was very flavorful and a little on the sweet side and the pepperoni and hot honey were sooo good. on the other hand, the spaghetti was a little off. it was kind of sweet? and just not as flavorful, but other than that everything else was great and i will definitely be back to try another pizza.

Ask the Community - Capo's by Tony Gemignani

Can you pick a premade pizza uncooked from Capo's?

Hello, we don’t offer premade uncooked pizzas at the moment. Take-out and delivery though 3rd party apps are available at 4:30pm when we open. Thank you!

Is your ricotta using pasteurized milk? Also are all the ingredients in your deep dish and cast iron pizza heated to at least 165 degrees like the meats like sausage, bacon and pepperoni? Thanks.

Don't be ridiculous. I'm sure it's perfect.

What is the corkage fee?

Hello, our corkage is $20 per bottle. Thank you.

Do you have a bar so you can just pop in for a drink?

Hi there! Yes, we have a beautiful bar and happy hour from 4:30-6:30pm Wednesday-Sunday :)

Do you guys have a happy hour? If so, when are those hours? Thank you!

Hi Anthony, we have happy hour every day we’re open (Wednesday-Sunday) 4:30-6:30pm. Thank you.

Is the dillinger still on the menu?

It is, however it is not available for takeout or delivery.

How much is the 7 fishes pizza?

That they don't have it this year is crazy! Watched the making of it on TV and seriously contemplated the ridiculous trip from Alberta to San Fran just for that pie! Y'all gotta capitalize on that kinda tv exposure.

Reservation form says deep dish needs to be ordered at least two hours in advance. Does that mean walk-ins can't order deep dish anymore?

Walk-ins can absolutely order deep dish, we just ask reservations to preorder so their meal is quicker, the deep dishes take about 40 minutes to make and we can streamline the seating that way.

Do they have a private room? And if so how many can it hold roughly?

We do not have a separate private room, we do offer private but outs though. You can find the private dining information at sfcapos.com under the reservations tab.

I had a wonderful, personal experience with a friend at Rickhouse recently. The drinks were…read morebeautifully executed and the atmosphere was friendly with the bartender and customers. The Lemon Meringue Pie was a gin-based drink that was silky, bright, and had a creamy foam on top. The taste of this drink is very unique, and it was balanced with its vanilla-citrus warmth and limoncello. The La Bonne Vie was more fresh and herbaceous; I liked the bitter taste of the grapefruit. It was light, crisp, and refreshing. This cozy, dimly lit place was perfect for a relaxing night out. Their well-crafted cocktails and the conversations with the people around are worth the visit.

I have been going to the Rickhouse for years. It is always on my list when I go to SF and I've even…read moretaken clients here because I like it so much. This last biz trip in SF didn't disappoint when I took 2 clients here before dinner. The place itself hasn't changed at all with its brick wall facing the main bar with a narrow lane going to the back room. The back room is wood paneled (presumably from bourbon barrels) with a few barrel top "tables" and stools at each. There's even a cool mezzanine level overlooking the rest of the joint. The vibe is very speakeasy meets yesteryear forge or blacksmith shop. And it is POPULAR. The after work rush often makes the Rickhouse and that narrow lane often difficult to navigate. It can take the bartenders a bit to get to you but they are making all the cocktails from scratch and manage the crowds pretty well. If you are searching for a quiet place to enjoy a cocktail, the after work rush makes this not the place for you. I have been here at other times and haven't had any issues. The mostly bearded bartenders donned with leather aprons are friendly and professional and whip up classics as well as other creative and delicious cocktails (instead of butchering animals...or people). I've enjoyed many of them over the years including a punch bowl shared with clients once. This time I ordered a Brazillianaire which had caught my eye and one of my clients liked it so much, he ordered two! I tried to find the current menu showing what was in it but figure it had Cachaca and rum and was very Tiki-adjacent (I love Tikibars!) and absolutely delicious! Prices are inline with cocktail prices...$14 for my other client's Sazerac (I bet that was good, too!) and $18/each for our Brazillionaire special seasonal cocktails. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Long live RICKHOUSE!
