Beautiful location. It was a bit warmer than I like but not unbearable. Service was on point. Edamame 4/5, missing the salt. Calamari 5/5 they nailed it. Not rubbery, just the right amount of frying time. Shitaki miso soup 3/5 the shitaki seemed like an after thought to the miso, added at the end as a garnish only. House salad 4/5 bright, fresh micro greens with their own sauce, on the sweet side. First roll was the Pazu 3/5 great presentation, plenty of tuna. Not sure what was in the middle with an off putting taste. Fried roll sin city 4/5 cool twist to the Vegas roll. Waygu burger 5/5 perfect. Best burger I've had in a very long time. Waygu sirloin 5/5 perfectly cooked, beautiful presentation. Mashed potatoes a bit bland but not the steak didn't need them. Smoked fashion 5/5 best old fashioned I've had in a while. Oh and I'm an ice snob, they had clear ice yess. $203 out the door, full and happy. Was a little nervous to try this place when I saw it was connected to the mall, but was pleasantly surprised! Sushi is pricey but so delicious. I felt that my roll was large and sufficient enough with a gyoza appetizer. Ambiance is very sleek and clean with some cheesy fake cherry blossom trees. Staff were friendly and tentative. I was so disappointed this time around. Took my sister here while she was visiting from outbid town for her birthday. I had hoped her ok from our previous experiences. The drinks were great. The food was delicious. Oh the service, though. We waited 20 minutes for our bay drinks, almost an hour for food and our server checked on us a total of four times. To take our order, to give us our drinks, once to pour water, and then to deliver the check. It wasn't busy. Our server informed us they were short staffed and I can relate to that. However, the fact that she didn't check in often and seemed more interested in the tables behind us (who were all seated after us) our up the perception that she wasn't interested in our table. Regardless, I tipped her well (no, it wasn't a mere 15% either). Took into consideration the food coming out late wasn't her fault. I was sad this time around. That new new spot in SLC for Japanese cuisine and sushi executed pretty well. My sister and I came here to try their A5 wagyu NY strip, but unfortunately it was unavailable. The other items we ordered instead were good and we might have not tried them if for the 86'd steak. Here's what we ordered best first. - Chutoro nigiri - So good & buttery, must order. - Hamachi nigiri - Also great, very fresh tasting. - Beef medallions entree - three medallions of filet served over mushrooms with a demi glace type sauce w/ mashed taters. This was good quality USDA steak, it's not from Japan so don't expect. - Chicken Katsu - Its chicken katsu, good crunch. - Pink mocktail - I forget the name but it was good tasting. I was impressed for the quality of fish out here in SLC or specifically Miyazaki's as i'm coming from SF bay area. If you came here just to eat sushi you'd have a good dinner i'm convinced and having the A5 steak when available is a perk. The owner stopped by to check on us among other employees and they're doing their part to make sure you're having a good experience. The reason to why I'm giving a 3 star review was because we got seated, waited 20 minutes until someone came over to our table to get our order. We saw a server on the side we were seated and she not once came to our table. The person who helped get our order was a kind gentleman who I don't believe he's a server. The food however was great! The sushi was really well made. My boyfriend got the hamburger in a rice bun like recommended and he loved it. I got the chicken katsu and it was good. The miso soup we had was incredible. I know they just opened but I would say that they need to be a bit better on who takes what table and make sure they are attentive to their tables. I have to say, I came here when they first opened and I had a much better experience then. Today we were one of few in the restaurant and the service was very slow. We ordered Gyozas and edamame and they both came out quite late and cold. Our server also brought us calamari which we didn't order but then brought us the correct thing. The sushi was very good but again took about 20-25 minutes to come even though we were the only few in the restaurant. I do remember last time they had more options on the menu for sushi. I was a bit sad that the menu was so small, however the sushi chefs are very accommodating. They made me a regular spicy tuna roll and a playboy roll. Let me just tell you, that spicy tuna roll? That was heaven. The tuna melted in my mouth, they didn't use your regular spicy tuna, nope I got real tuna and whatever spice they put on to make it spicy? It was amazing. Playboy roll was yummy as always. My signature roll. I did try the otoro, and it just melted like butter. Tuna bell is one of my favorites. The gyoza was gyoza'ing lol. Calamari is not my favorite but the texture was cooked nicely here and I did like the breading. Now my friends tried both salmon, there's two on the plate and they favored Ora King because it just melted in their mouth and had so much flavor. The scallops are just like regular scallops. Sadly nothing crazy about them. I would return for the spicy tuna alone. read more

My experience at Miyazaki was a dining experience. When I went here and got seated at the bar with our sushi chef, Jake - it was clear to me that this is the kind of place that genuinely cares about the flavor and presentation of their food. That being said - Miyazaki is not going to be like other sushi restaurants in the area. You're not going to get 3 to 4 sushi rolls drenched in eel sauce in the span of 15 minutes. The food is going to take time. So, if you want to have a real sit-down sushi meal, make some time for this place. My partner and I ordered the following: Otoro Nigiri - absolutely melted in my mouth. Had zero fishy smell, 100% flavor, highly recommended. Fatty King Sake (Salmon) - Just like the Otoro, it melted like butter but tasted like Salmon. Again, fresh - no fishy smell. Uni - Not the absolute best uni I've ever had, but still high quality nonetheless. If you like that ocean/briny flavor definitely give this a shot. Beef Tataki - The beef was seared nicely and flavored with ponzu sauce which gave it a nice sweet/acidic taste. The texture was really nice, not chewy at all. I would recommend this if you enjoy beef. Calamari - Cooked very well, it wasn't underdone, and wasn't chewy like some calamari I've had in the past that had been overcooked. The mayo-based sauce that was paired with it had a nice sweetness that contrasted well with freshly squeezed lemon juice on top. The rice for the nigiri had a great texture and was seasoned well. My only (very) minor gripe was that the rice sometimes would fall apart upon picking it up. Bonus points to this place for using legit wasabi instead of the neon green stuff that most other places use. It provides a lighter burn and is lightly sweet. Going to Miyazaki was a treat. Our sushi chef, Jake was a super nice guy. We also got a chance to meet the owner and I could tell just how passionate he was about this place. Give this place a try if you wanna treat yourself and you're a sushi lover. read more

We dined here for the first time on Mother's Day. There are a lot of positive things about the restaurant- the aesthetics are nice it's not too busy. The food was okay- the miso was super salty, the salmon- okay but a bit fishy the dessert amazing (Japanese cheesecake)! The thing that was odd was the server(s) one being a manager kept reaching over us to hand us the food -we were at a table with both sides completely open. We ordered a couple of sakes and they were different flavors but only one cup- so we ended up mixing them in the same cup. Service wasn't great -food okay- and Fashion Place parking always sucks- but not the fault of the restaurant. read more

One of my favorite restaurants when I visit the Salt Lake City area! The fish here is so fresh. Apparently they import the fish from New Zealand, Osaka, and other places. I always wondered why the salmon is so fresh here. The rolls are pretty amazing too, I tried the salmon lemonade, kaguya, and a few others! The venue is very welcoming too, there's a private room for events, outdoor patio (with cherry blossom trees), and like and outdoor lounge. The staff is super friendly, Doss was our server and super nice dude. The sushi chefs are pretty friendly too, I just walked by and they were like "Hello! How's your day?". I keep coming back because this place really does have good sushi. However today I tried the chicken Katsu and it was below average. The sauce that comes with it, awful. However I'm rating today based on their service. TERRIBLE! I'm literally sitting here waiting and waiting and waiting for the waitress to take my money for the check. Great food, very poor service. We were there for a Monday lunch, and they couldn't serve most of the sashimi we asked for because the head chef wasn't there. Then they told us that chef started working, but that they can't serve the chef's choice plate. We opted out for the regular sashimi combo and waited for over 30min. Then they couldn't tell us which fish combo we got. Very embarassing. They were severely understaffed both in the kithen and with waiters, and even though the food we ended up getting was good quality, the service was beyond acceptable. read more

Dexter, one of the head guys (or THE head guy) at Miyazaki I presume, made my husband & my first visit here very memorable. He took the time to discuss the sashimi & quality of the fish they serve with us & went into detail, which we really appreciate. I highly recommend the sweet chili edamame, the bakka salmon sashimi with the fresh grated wasabi & the chili hamachi roll. Everything on the menu is exquisite. New and highly recommended sushi restaurant. Being from LA, there are not many sushi restaurants that I really recommend in Utah, but Miyazaki is definitely a great choice. My wife and I were looking for a place to celebrate her birthday, so we decided to try out Miyazaki. Given the restaurant's location in Fashion Place Mall, you might be tempted to think that it is just a mall quality restaurant, but the quality of the food was really excellent. We tried ceviche for an appetitizer and highly recommend it. It was the best ceviche I have had outside of Peru. The sashimi was very fresh and high quality. We also enjoyed the steak and salmon. If you have room for dessert, the Japanese cheesecake and rainbow cake (not 100 percent sure on the name) are also highly recommended. read more

The service felt like it was an overpriced restaurant chain in an airport terminal with substantially higher prices The cocktails were good and the gyoza appetizer was fresh and well prepared. The service is abhorrent. They have plenty of staff, different people brought out our gyoza and drinks and the water glasses were always kept full. We left after 45 minutes for another sushi restaurant. Miyazaki needs some serious front of house help. "Imagine" This place might be new, I'm unsure. Summary - the food is terrific, but the wait staff a complete train wreck, and I mean complete. The main thesis of this place is high end Japanese food, with an emphasis on Waygu A5 beef from the Miyazaki region, which is viewed by many to be the best of the best. But you would never know this from the wait staff we had, she seemed totally clueless. Pro tip for this place - upgrade the staff, and comport yourself by reviewing the options and meaning of the menu. The hostess was not much better primarily due to a language barrier - I'm sure she is excellent in all things Japan, but it all gets lost in translation. The second unforgiveable issue - I think the place closes at 9pm, and starting around 840 or so the waitstaff literally started mop-up operations, and they were in a rush to get us out and going, in particular this wait staff person. Like I said the food was terrific, but there were just so many turn-offs. I imagined what I might do as an owner and I would start on reversing the two themes noted above. We ordered tuna fatty belly Otoro and tuna mixed fat and lean part Chutoro and they served only Chutoro and thought that we cannot tell. Other dishes are not great, they are okay. The rice is over soak in vinegar, or the chef just put too much vinegar in them even though sushi rice is not supposed to taste that sour. read more

We don't have many good high-end sushi places here in Utah. I was really hopeful for this one based on the photos and descriptions. Our party of 4 was taken care of just fine by the wait staff. The interior is also nicely decorated and the tall booths give you lots of privacy. There's not really a lot of Japanese styling to it though so don't think you're going to be taken back to Japan. We were there for dinner 6pm on a Sunday in mid-July and the restaurant was maybe only 20% full. However nice the staff and inside was, there were a few things that didn't quite align. For example, we had cheap disposable chopsticks like you'd find at Panda Express. They weren't even the nice ones that are round and smooth, you have to break them and deal with the splinters. Also, the plating is mediocre at best. You can tell they tried but it didn't reflect the price we paid. We got the chirashi and it was very non-traditional and not very visually appealing because the bowl of rice was upside down on the plate like a mole hill in the center and the pieces of fish were draped over the sides. On the same vein, the portions are really small and they're stingy with the fish. They cut the pieces very thin and even then don't give you many. The basic nigiri plate was a similar experience of "meh" but it was the better buy compared to the chirashi bowl. Quality of the fish was fine but at these prices I was expecting better. They had $15 real wasabi on the menu, apparently imported from Japan. We decided it wasn't worth it given the small portion. We've had real Japanese fresh wasabi before and for much cheaper. Bottom line: we decided we wouldn't go back again. There's too little emphasis on the quality of the food and experience for it to be worth the premium price and too little of portions to make up for any deficit. There are other restaurants where we'd prefer to spend our money and time. read more
