Overall 5/5: Wow! This was a fun place to eat at. I definitely recommend people to try this place out. The place was clean. Food was fresh. There were so many options. Price was cheaper than other comparable AYCE hot pot places in NYC at 30.99 for standard tier and even a 23.99 weekday lunch deal which is a steal. This place was truly felt like a slice of New York City on our vacation BUT unlike NYC, the service was so friendly. Tip was included in the bill so we accidentally tipped again. We didn't know this until the manager came out and insisted she return the extra tip. If this is not a testament to great service, I don't know what is. Ambiance 5/5: Everything was clean. The place was large so tables were adequately spaced. Place was well lit. Warm decor and colors. Service 5/5: Great service. People were welcoming. Staff were stationed around the self serve bar to assist customers. Manager was super nice and even returned money to us when we accidentally double tipped. Food 5/5: They have A LOT of options here. There were two pricing tiers. Premium was 36.99 and standard was 30.99. Premium offered cuts of wagyu, shrimp paste, and leg of lamb for every 2 persons in your party. I felt like I would've been happy with just the standard tier since there was more than enough food. They have a self serve cotton candy machine, soda machine, make your own BOBA station, and ice cream. Wow what an interesting experience!! It felt a little bit like a fever dream. I feel like when you go here you're paying for the food but also for the experience itself, and I had so much fun with it! I feel like I'm not the target audience for the food since I'm not a huge fan of soup or certain meats. When we arrived, it was PACKED. We had a group of 15 on a Saturday night, and they actually got us seated fairly quickly. As soon as we sat down, they started asking us what we wanted. We told them we had just sat and had some who had never tried this and needed a minute. They came back pretty quickly and asked us again. We told them we still needed a minute. Once we decided, they were quick with the service. We had two tables with two hot pots each. You get to pick the soup you want as a table. They also have a couple of different options for the meat which is mostly unlimited. The whole table has to choose the same option, and we went with the premium. You can order as many of the meats as you'd like which is nice especially with a big group. I particular enjoyed and would highly recommend the lamb shank. Other than that I wasn't the biggest fan of the food. They bring the soup and most meats to the table, but they also have a buffet with additional items such as noodles and vegetables. They also have a few additional meats as well as hot items and desserts available at the buffet. In the buffet, they also have their drink options. They have a soda machine, but it is Pepsi. They didn't offer Diet Pepsi. They did have Pepsi zero sugar which was pretty good and it's nice to be able to fill it up as much as I'd like. They also had some milk teas and juices with boba on the side. For dessert, they had some different things out on the buffet. They also had a cotton candy maker and place to scoop your own ice cream. Service was friendly-ish, we had a big group and we weren't all sure what we wanted to do, they explained the menu to us but we felt a little rushed. I am a big fan of hot pot, particularly of the Little Sheep chain, having eaten at Little Sheep in multiple cities in China, Hong Kong, Seoul, San Diego, Los Angeles, Cupertino, and Montreal (of course, before Little Sheep withdrew from North America completely). I mention this to give readers an idea of my perspective, i.e. I have eaten a lot of hot pot all over the world. In terms of meal format, I view Happy Lamb to be the best of all hot pot restaurants I have eaten at (Little Sheep, Haidilao, many independents). I like the AYCE with choice between standard and premium meats, plus self serve for other ingredients. The restaurant is clean. The soups are good, but not the best I have had. I don't think they are as good as Little Sheep's, but I would say they are roughly equal to Haidilao. Overall, I prefer Happy Lamb to Haidilao. (Hot pot fans most likely will know Haidilao. Some of my friends consider Haidilao to be the best.). But I will mention that I prefer Little Sheep to Haidilao. I know that many disagree with me. If you like Haidilao, I am sure you will like Happy Lamb. Happy Lamb in SLC area is much less expensive than Haidilao in southern California. read more

They have 2 options: premium and non-premium. We went with premium because it had more meat choices. We also did the double broth. Worth it! Hands down THE best hot pot in town! I've been to almost every hot pot in SLC and Happy Lamb was one that I have yet to try because I don't like lamb. I went for the premium VIP and it's worth every penny. The sliced meats are fresh and so tender. I also love the fact that the hot sinks into the table for less reach. Not sure if there's options for individual pots but we shared a single large pot with 3 different broths: spicy, bone, and mushroom. Wow, probably the best service I have received at a restaurant this year! Customer service/experience is fantastic, I will say this place is run extremely well. We came on a busy Friday night, and they were able to the 6 of us in pretty quickly considering all the large groups ahead of us (40 min wait), helps they have the little snack crackers for customers at the front. Our waiter took our meat and broth orders immediately and consistently checked in on our orders, we were stuffed when we left haha! The buffet was kept well stocked and clean, the stand outs for the hot foods were the pig trotters, sesame chicken (couldn't tell what the sauce was, but it was delicious), kimchi/cucumber salad as well as the stir fried udon. The various drinks were a hit as well, but my table really enjoyed the milk tea. Veggies and various hot pot ingredients were extremely fresh and cleaned well, just fantastic on the food front. Pork belly and the garlic beef were our favorites for the hot pot, didn't enjoy the iron steak as much. Lastly and this is a personal preference, I just wished they didn't use so much of the goji berries, etc in all of their broths, by the end of the meal, every broth just tasted like a herbal tonic, which probably great for my health, didn't taste great in the meats. The steam buns and different treated to try were fun and delicious. The restaurant was very clean and well kept, the staff were so kind and helpful. I have nothing, but glowing comments. We were excited to try this place but were pretty let down. We got the tomato and marrow broth. The tomato broth was pretty bland and I didn't enjoy the taste of the marrow broth. We asked to change the broth and our waitress said usually they don't, but since it was our first time, she made an exception. We requested the curry broth and then she suggested to just bring us curry paste instead of changing the broth. Honestly, I wanted to change the entire broth but we accepted just the paste. In the end, the curry paste made the marrow broth more tolerable but still not that good. So we ended up only eating the tomato broth after seasoning it with sauces from the sauce bar. My bf said that the sauce bar was quite small and crowded. That being said, the hot pot sides + hot food + drinks were nice. I especially enjoyed the udon and milk tea. There were plenty of options for things to put in your hotpot and they tasted good. The meat was good also. I especially enjoyed the beef and my bf liked the lamb, the pork was ok. The look of the restaurant is welcoming and aesthetically pleasing. The embossed stones on the walls are lovely. The all you can eat set up is well appointed you are able to access anything you need, including western style utensils and rice. The tables are nice, and there is lots of seating to accommodate different size parties. Both times that I have been to Happy Lamb HotPot I it enjoyed the experience and food very much. The service is excellent. The staff is helpful and friendly. Five stars for sauce bar, drink bar, dessert bar, seafood bar as well as vegetable and other offering. Pretty terrific hot bar including fried offerings. My favorite is the gyoza! I really like that rice is offered at the hot bar. Great broth options including some interesting ones, we have enjoyed all the different flavors that we have tried. In my opinion the prices are reasonable, for the AYCE. I think it's tempting to over order on the meet selection. Two orders is generally enough for me. I got three orders this last time and I didn't have room or time for dessert. I enjoyed my experience at Happy Lamb. My wife and I have been eating Hot Pot a lot lately and we've gone to most of the better known options in the Salt Lake Valley. Happy Lamb is above average in my opinion but not my favorite. Where Happy Lamb really shines is in their service and their cleanliness. That's a pretty significant area to really stand out in and because of that I would probably recommend Happy Lamb to friends, family and acquaintances even before my very favorite Hot Pot place. Staff were constantly wiping down the ingredient bar area and keeping it filled. Our servers were always close by and always checking when they thought we might need something. They only have the option of a large pot in the center of the table and do not offer smaller pots at each seat. They do offer a split pot for two kinds of broth. Their ingredient bar and sauce bar are very good. They have very large containers for the most common sauce ingredients so it is very unlikely that you will find any of them empty, which is always a huge bummer. For me the self-made dipping sauce is what hot pot is all about. I really liked that they had crushed Thai chili and chili oil for those, like me, who want a very spicy sauce. The fresh ingredient bar was large and the items they did have were well stocked and fresh. The thing I did notice is that there are other places that have the same amount of space or less and have more options. The fish ball selection, in particular, was below average. They had very large shrimp on the bar, but they did not have a shrimp option that was shelled. I love shrimp and I know it is more traditional to have shell-on shrimp, even head-on. I'm just not willing to do all that extra work, burn my fingers and make a huge mess for them, so if they aren't shell-off I'm not going to eat them. My favorite place has both full shrimp with heads, tails and shells, but also has completely cleaned shrimp with no tail, no shell and no head. They had nice veggies and mushrooms but again, just not as many varieties as a few other places that I like. They have self-serve fountain drinks and fruit teas. That was nice. There is a nice selection of deserts next to that. They also have some hot items, like dumplings (pot stickers), egg rolls, sesame balls and some other things. One particular complaint I have is that there is a place where they keep carafes of extra broth for refills and a few other items and the staff seem to congregate there. It is a narrow choke point that goes from the dining area to the ingredient bar so it created awkward, you go, no you go, okay I'll go, oh wait you're going, situations. It is great in that the servers can see almost all the dining from that spot but with them all standing there and all the customer being forced to go through there it created a little traffic jam. Overall I really do like Happy Lamb. It is also one of the closest hot pot places to my house, so they will almost certainly be on my rotation. The read more

There is a really clean sauce bar with covers for the sauce ! Of special interest to children and sweet-toothed adults alike will be the cotton candy machine, an atypical feature in hot pot restaurants. They've also got a rotating chef's choice side dish which has been a good enough reason to go on several occasions: most recently they had the most divine lamb spine that my whole table ate more of than we ate hot pot . Their meats are pretty good, but their seafood selection has been a miss most times we've gone. Maybe only once have they had crab legs. The broths are ok, but not as standout as other places'. This didn't get 5 stars because they didn't refill the milk tea and green tea dispensers a few hours before closing. I also didn't care for the VIP meat menu vs premium, in which you pay $5 for a similar meat options, but not significantly better quality. I liked the variety of broths, but didnt find one that really stood out. I do prefer personal hotpot's instead of shared, but the table had enough table space. The servers were really fast with bringing out meat and the soups. There checked in frequently and were pleasant to deal with. They are doing a promotion during their soft opening where the VIP ayce is only $19.99 for lunch! The value ayce does not include any meats, so don't waste your money on that. The premium VIP ayce includes better selection of meat and seafood, but I think it's too expensive and not worth it. For the broths, I tried the original marrow, spicy marrow, tomato, and golden cabbage. My favorite was the golden cabbage and the tomato broth! The meat and veggies tasted really good in it. I'd highly recommend the golden cabbage because this is rare in hotpot places. I would not recommend the original marrow. It was not what I expected--I thought it would be similar to the Little Sheep plain soup base, but it was totally not and tasted bitter instead. I liked that they had a selection of cooked food so I could start eating right away. They also provided fountain drinks for free, which most ayce do not. While their food was good, the pot at my table didn't work. A staff member took a while to fix it, but after working for like a minute, the heat stopped again. We had to switch tables, but it was quite inconvenient cuz we had two young kids at the table too, and they were a bit grumpy during the move. This whole incident took more than 20 minutes before I could sit down and start cooking my food. I was hungry and did not have a pleasant experience. Overall, food was yummy with a variety of options, but I think it's really expensive. The soft opening promotional price seemed more reasonable. Service in general was good. Really happy to see a Happy Lamb open in SLC! I've had locations in NJ and MA and this one definitely lives up to its hype. The place was packed when I went on a Friday night, but only had to wait for about ten minutes. The servers were attentive and fast too. This is the first Happy Lamb I've been to where most of the seafood/vegetables/fish balls are self-served. Careful not to overload your plate, otherwise you will be full after just one trip!
