Its nice to have an authentic Chinese diner available along with all the American-Chinese ones, especially in Sandy. This hidden gem is flavorful, affordable, and offers highly customizable meals. The concept is simple -- grab a bowl, walk the vast array of vegetables, noodles, meat, fungus, eggs, etc to choose what you want to go into your hot pot. You then take it to the front counter where it gets weighed ($12.99/lb.) and you select one of four broths to go with. The cook then takes your bowl and the final concoction is delivered to your table by the exuberant Jessie (owner). I thought I would end up paying quite a bit based on the eight price but surprisingly, I didn't. My bowl of egg, meat, noodles, and some veggies only came to half a pound, so I paid $6.50 for a ramen bowl that would have been double that elsewhere. Not only that, the meal was delicious. It was a clean taste and not choked with salt, sugar, and any additives like I've had before. I got the mild and then was able to manually spice it up at a nearby condiment table where I added a few dashes of sriracha and chili oil. Multiple types of mushrooms, quail eggs, fish balls, several types of tofu, and a full load of veggies stood out. Decked out in resplendent red, the restaurant was vibrant, colorful, super clean, and lots of natural lighting. Everything was written in mandarin as well as English and the authentic roots to China were evident. We enjoyed our meal immensely! Xie xie ni, Jessie!

It was our first time with this kind of setup: you pack up your bowl with whatever you want from the bar, then they'll ring it up by the lbs and cook for you. I thought it was pretty good but my stomach was not used to the seasoning and had a hard time digesting hours afterward. Glad to have something different in Utah/salt lake area.

I visited again. It was delicious! The takeout packaging is excellent. No spills and the soup stayed hot.

We came around 6:30pm and there was no one. There was barely any ingredients and meat. They didn't even bother to refill it. Service was poor. Overall, I don't like it and don't recommend.

Had this place again today. Flavor is still spot on, everything else was meh. The ingredients looked like they've been out awhile; with a few items mislabeled. The lady questioned my wife when she asked to not have any sesame paste in her dry pot. I don't know if it was because my wife was Caucasian or what. But when I asked, she was fine with it. Also, my wife is vegan and she only chose vegan ingredients, but it came out with little pieces of beef. I'm guessing they're not cleaning their woks properly between dishes. The rice was also dry and the sauce bar was lacking. Each sauce/ingredient was low and again mislabeled.

Sichuan peppercorn broth and house broth. Amazing deal amazing food!

Amazing flavor with great variety of options. You pay per lbs and get exactly what you want at a fair and affordable price. Went back to back days and making this a weekly stop.

Expensive and foods are not good. We ordered to go order, got lots of cheap stuff. Not worth the price.

For starters, we ordered the Wor Wonton Soup. The broth was rich and hearty. The shrimps were large and plentiful. All the vegetables blended in with the flavors. I just wish the beef was a little more tender. A little marinade in baking soda would fix this. We ordered some chicken lettuce wraps. This has minced chicken, celery, bamboo shoots, and carrots. These are good by themselves but are best with hoisin sauce. I just wish the lettuce leaves were bigger. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was also good. The sauce had a nice blend of mayo, honey and lemon. It had a little too much breading for me but still tasted good. For $16.99, I wished there was a bit more shrimp. One thing I really appreciate - they GLAZE the walnuts! This is one of the few places that I actually like the sauce and they glaze the walnuts! The Crispy Beef is definitely my favorite. In fact, I think this is better than the one I get from Red Maple. It was not too sweet and had just the right amount of heat. Again, I really wish they would marinate the beef in baking soda to soften it up. The last dish we ordered was the Garlic Chicken. The server forgot to put the order in for this dish and there was a rush to get it out to us. They forgot to put garlic in this dish so wee sent it back. It was perfect when it came back. This place is fast becoming our go-to-place for Chinese Food. It's was a nice surprise and I'll can't wait to try the other dishes!

Our longtime favorite -- worth the drive every time!…read more We've been going to Joy Luck for several years now, and truly, it never disappoints. It's hands-down the best Chinese food in the area. We happily make the trek out to Sandy just for this place, and whenever we have a show at Hale Centre Theatre, Joy Luck is our pre-show tradition. This visit was no different: no wait, quick seating, and incredibly fast service -- which is a lifesaver when you're trying not to be late for curtain time. We started with the deep-fried cream cheese wontons, perfectly crisp with a delicious sweet-and-sour dipping sauce. (Confession: I sometimes pour a little of that sauce over my rice instead of soy -- it adds the best hint of sweetness!) We each got soup as well: hot & sour for my partner and egg drop for me. Their egg drop soup is the best I've ever had. Sometimes I crave it and stop by just for a bowl. For mains, we ordered the black pepper steak and the cantonese noodles with chicken. As expected, everything was flavorful, saucy, and served in generous portions. You absolutely get your money's worth here. One thing I love is their huge menu -- so many options, and everything we've tried over the years has been great. I'm also a big fan of their combination dinners where you get an entrée, soup, rice, eggroll, and fried shimp. Perfect if you want your own complete plate, but also easy to mix, match, and share if you're going family-style. Joy Luck has been consistently wonderful for years: friendly staff, fast service, big portions, and truly delicious food. We'll keep coming back -- pre-show or not!

The look of the restaurant inside has changed a few times. when I was there last there was a casual seating area at the back of the restaurant. There were people there waiting for takeout orders. I really enjoyed the great chow mein with the beef. Next time I might try it with chicken or pork because the beef was a little hard to chew for my liking. The noodles tasted delicious and flavorful. I always have to order the cold cucumber salad. It is a great accompaniment to any dish. I added the peanuts to the cucumbers because I really like them together so if you order the cucumbers, they will not come with peanuts. It is a strange request, but they accommodated me with no problem. They had a case at the front of the restaurant with grapes and strawberries, skewered and coated in a crunchy sugary coating. It was a little bit messy, but I did not mind because it tasted so good. The strawberries were super sweet, fresh and juicy with a thin, sweet crunchy shell. I will try the grapes next time. Thank you for the delicious food

We stumbled upon Great Wall and gave it a shot. The inside was a little different in a weird way. There was only three tables in the front and the back had a lounge area. I believe there were more tables hidden behind the curtain. We ordered: Fried rice - the corn in the fried rice tasted almost spoiled Beef brocoli - the beef was tender but not as tasty or fresh Garlic ribs - cut into small portions was not what I expected and a little dry Only great was the service and those fruit on a stick in the glass counter. The high prices was not worth it.
