Okay so the food was absolutely amazing. Because of that I'm willing to overlook a few insights and still give 5 stars. Men's bathroom was broken and out of order but they still have one functional. No fountain drink available but other bottles/cans available. You just have to pay for the inconvenience. But I ordered the sesame chicken and fried rice and it was absolutely divine. I could barely stop eating to write this review but I knew I needed to once I had the first bite. Kitchen is clearly visible and I saw them cook right in front of me. We patronized this carry-out restaurant on Sept 5 at the recommendation of a family member and gave it a try. My wife and I ordered the Yang Chow fried rice, the pork Mei Fun (thin Singapore-like rice noodles, pork, veggies), and MooGoo Gai Pan. We decided to take these home and enjoy them with some Chinese Tsing-Tao beer we had chilled in the fridge. Overall...it was just ok...as it seemed to lack some solid flavor that we'd expect. Not enough MSG, maybe? The Yang Chow fried rice had a lot of meat (pork, beef, chicken, shrimp) and some decent flavor...but we were expecting to get our socks knocked off. But no, that did not happen. We did have enough for a second meal...one of the upsides of take-home meals...so the $42.16 price tag was reasonably worth it. But dang...the lack of flavor was the big hitter for us. Note to the management! Three Stars - OK - for hot food and lots of it. read more

We ordered dinner from here and it was not very good at all. Here is the rundown.... 1. I ordered Szechuan chicken that was listed as a spicy dish and the flavors were way off. It was not spicy at all and to be honest had a very funny tastes it was almost uneatable. I literally took 3 bites and put the cover on it and tossed it. The fried rice that it came with was pretty bad too. 2. The boyfriends general Tao's chicken was equally flavorless and not spicy. He also tossed it after a few bites. 3. The egg rolls were the weirdest, soggy, fishy tasting egg rolls we both have ever eaten. 4. The crab rangoons were flavorless and there was more over fried won ton wrappers that tasted like burnt oil. 5. The rice was dense and flavorless. The good: Service was amazing. The family-owned business feel made us feel so welcome and the kids working the register were so sweet and accommodating. We tipped highly for this reason. Boy did we regret tipping highly once we got our food. The egg rolls were some of the best i've ever had. 5/5 for the egg rolls themselves. The bad: We got our food and I was disappointed by the serving size. I was expecting a huge plate for what we payed but it wasn't that much food. We ordered two combination plates, some hot and sour soup, and a drink. We got our drink and as we were sipping, i noticed something in our drink. I grabbed a fork to fish it out and it was a huge ball of aluminum foil (i was an idiot and threw this away out of disgust). We dumped the drink out and there were smaller pieces of aluminum. My first bite of soup, there was a circle piece of plastic. I removed it from my mouth but another thing i could have swallowed. We sat by the bathrooms and one of the chefs went to use the restroom. She did not wash her hands when she came out of the restroom. We tossed most of our food and were extremely disappointed in our experience at Mulans today. We were greeted super fast and the staff explained some of our options for food. She was super friendly and asked about our day. Portion sizes were huge. I could eat leftovers for days. Cashew chicken was delicious. Fried rice tasted good, but just fried rice. Wontons had great flavor but were small and compact. Maybe rolled tight and balled up. Not light and fluffy like some places. This satisfied our Chinese crave on a Sunday. Other places were closed. They had lots of signs saying closed on Tuesdays. Kind of odd, but they made that clear. Very discouraging was the lack of a public bathroom. I'm not sure how they get away with that. They had a sign stating out of order, but they had signs on the door saying No Public Bathroom. The bathroom clearly worked, but they had it closed intentionally. This may be because of the high school being next door, but still not a good excuse. Be aware that parking is tricky due to being in a strip mall with 5 other businesses and competing with patrons for the 7/11. Cars were pulling in and out quickly to stop and grab stuff from 7/11. Before they closed down, Dim Sum House downtown was my favorite Chinese restaurant. I was heartbroken and without delicious beef chow fun when they closed for renovation and rebranding as a hot pot place. However, my joy for Chinese food was rekindled when I discovered Mulan Chinese Restaurant. I love their beef chow fun, Singapore curry mei fun, mapo tofu, mongolian beef, and so much more. Super disappointed in our experience with Mulan. We ordered the sesame chicken and there wasn't a single edible piece of chicken to be found. One bite into this chicken would send you to the dentist for a new crown. Not even sure how they find this acceptable to send out to someone. I love their ribs! I finally found a place that cook the ribs and fried rice the same way that Chinese restaurants back in PR. The ribs are boneless, sweet and tasty. The fried rice have plenty of ham and veggies. It is always a couple working there. They both take orders at the counter as well as cook the orders. I only had about an hour and a half to figure out food for Valentines. Mulan made it easy to order online while I started the trek there during Rush Hour I checked in and they were crazy busy. Two Door Dash Delivery people were super obnoxious and just pushed to the front of the line. Due to this my order had been ready but the owner was concentrating on their orders I'm a firm believer in that you treat the person who is there as more important than those that aren't And now about the food. It wasn't fabulous but really good for how busy they were. My husband had Spicy Beef. He said it wasn't that spicy but he drinks hot sauce. I ordered walnut Shrimp. The batter was good but they had no flavor. This seemed odd to me I ordered an extra order of ham fried rice and that was pretty good and standard. The best part is it's a family affair. It's a tiny place next to 7-11. Don't blink you will miss it. I had no idea it was a fast food joint I was thinking it was more sit down and be served. Nope you go to the counter order your food and if it's for here they bring your food out to you. You can totally tell that this place is family owned and operated. Service was good! I ordered the Mulan's combination platter with general two chicken and an order of the crab Rangoon. The crab rangoonscame hot and fresh . They are the usual cheese mixture basic wanton served with the red sweet and sour sauce. Nothing special. I had ordered the general Tso chicken because people raved about it. I find it lacking in flavor. This is supposed to be a spicey dish. Where's the spice? While the chicken is fried perfectly the sauce tastes like it came out of a bottle. The dish came with ham fried rice and a spring roll. Garnished with broccoli. The broccoli was my favorite part. Frankly I won't be back. I'm with Shehnoor as one of the reasons I return to Mulan is because of the ownership. That sweet woman worked so hard to bring her young son over from China, and I was so glad to show up one day and see him there! Anyway, on to the food. I tried this place with a $1 promo from Great Eats, if I'm not mistaken. I was pleasantly surprised. I've had the sesame chicken and chow mein noodles, and it's always decent. I am not a huge fan of Chinese takeout just because the general quality I find is pretty low (especially the meat--"is this really chicken?"). But the quality here is definitely better than the average place. I think her prices are super reasonable as well, especially for the quantity. The thing I love here that is hard to find anywhere else nearby is a combo plate. I get meat, noodles, rice, and veggies. I find at most places that it's an a la carte situation: meat only comes with white rice, noodles are sold separately, etc. So I like that I can get everything I want in one plate here. Yum!!! I wish Mulan wasn't so far away from me! Went there for lunch and tried a few items: general tsao chicken, mapo tofu, and the cream cheese wontons. I was very impressed! Classic Chinese takeout food-- in fact, some of the best Chinese take out I've had in Utah. Reminded me of that I used to eat in SF and NYC. However, to about any confusion, this is not "authentic" or "sit down restaurant" quality or flavor. It's quick, cheap, delicious, Americanized, (unhealthy) Chinese takeout. Will come here more! The lunch prices were great and I think they had a student special as well. One thing I will say is that, like other reviewers here, I think the general tsao's flavor was different than most other restaurants. I had the chance to dine in at Mulan for lunch today. I was craving for kung-pao chicken and I checked it is one of the lunch special items. I was shocked when the owner told me its more than 10 dollars. I had to confirm if this is a lunch special price before she corrected the price. A bad first impression already. Food-wise, they serve the plate with only chopsticks. C'mon, I don't think you are being serious with using chopsticks with a plate of rice. Also the spoon they gave me turned out to be greasy. Not sure where they get that spoon from. BTW, The kung-pao chicken is supposed to be hot and spicy, and my kung-pao chicken is not! too much soy-sauce and too much corn flour. Don't think I have the courage to visit this joint again. read more
