This is the best sushi I've ever had & I lived in CA for 34 years, and ate A LOT of incredible sushi while living there... Dexter, one of the head guys (or THE head guy) at Miyazaki I presume, made my husband & my first visit here very memorable. He took the time to discuss the sashimi & quality of the fish they serve with us & went into detail, which we really appreciate. I highly recommend the sweet chili edamame, the bakka salmon sashimi with the fresh grated wasabi & the chili hamachi roll. Everything on the menu is exquisite. Got here super excited to try things out but left super disappointed! We ordered tuna fatty belly Otoro and tuna mixed fat and lean part Chutoro and they served only Chutoro and thought that we cannot tell. Other dishes are not great, they are okay. The rice is over soak in vinegar, or the chef just put too much vinegar in them even though sushi rice is not supposed to taste that sour. read more

Great food, very poor service. We were there for a Monday lunch, and they couldn't serve most of the sashimi we asked for because the head chef wasn't there. Then they told us that chef started working, but that they can't serve the chef's choice plate. We opted out for the regular sashimi combo and waited for over 30min. Then they couldn't tell us which fish combo we got. Very embarassing. They were severely understaffed both in the kithen and with waiters, and even though the food we ended up getting was good quality, the service was beyond acceptable. read more

The service felt like it was an overpriced restaurant chain in an airport terminal with substantially higher prices The cocktails were good and the gyoza appetizer was fresh and well prepared. The service is abhorrent. They have plenty of staff, different people brought out our gyoza and drinks and the water glasses were always kept full. We left after 45 minutes for another sushi restaurant. Miyazaki needs some serious front of house help. We don't have many good high-end sushi places here in Utah. I was really hopeful for this one based on the photos and descriptions. Our party of 4 was taken care of just fine by the wait staff. The interior is also nicely decorated and the tall booths give you lots of privacy. There's not really a lot of Japanese styling to it though so don't think you're going to be taken back to Japan. We were there for dinner 6pm on a Sunday in mid-July and the restaurant was maybe only 20% full. However nice the staff and inside was, there were a few things that didn't quite align. For example, we had cheap disposable chopsticks like you'd find at Panda Express. They weren't even the nice ones that are round and smooth, you have to break them and deal with the splinters. Also, the plating is mediocre at best. You can tell they tried but it didn't reflect the price we paid. We got the chirashi and it was very non-traditional and not very visually appealing because the bowl of rice was upside down on the plate like a mole hill in the center and the pieces of fish were draped over the sides. On the same vein, the portions are really small and they're stingy with the fish. They cut the pieces very thin and even then don't give you many. The basic nigiri plate was a similar experience of "meh" but it was the better buy compared to the chirashi bowl. Quality of the fish was fine but at these prices I was expecting better. They had $15 real wasabi on the menu, apparently imported from Japan. We decided it wasn't worth it given the small portion. We've had real Japanese fresh wasabi before and for much cheaper. Bottom line: we decided we wouldn't go back again. There's too little emphasis on the quality of the food and experience for it to be worth the premium price and too little of portions to make up for any deficit. There are other restaurants where we'd prefer to spend our money and time. read more

Came in for Father's Day. Had a glass of Prosecco which was oddly served in a martini glass. Really strange. Ordered some akami tuna sashimi and some nigiri as well. Both were very fresh and tasty. I would come again just for the sashimi. Miso was good as was the side salad. Gyoza was tasty. The lemonade role was strange. They lightly torch the salmon which I found took away from the taste. There is a light layer of sugar in the bottom which was also torched. I mean it's edible but just found it strange. The chicken katsu was over breaded. Mostly bread with a little chicken. I can't claim to be an expert in Japanese food, but I can say I absolutely loved everything I put in my mouth at this restaurant. The edamame was seasoned beyond just salt, and was delicious as an appetizer. So were the potstickers (can't remember the name on the menu). I had the Wagyu sirloin. It was cooked to perfection and some of the best meat I've ever eaten. My wife had the salmon and let me try one bite; also amazing. We had the cotton cake for dessert. It's like a light and fluffy cheesecake and was delicious. The ambience, the service, and especially the food are all highly highly recommended. read more

We were very excited about dining here based on what we had heard. The place is very nice, there is a good atmosphere and feel. Interesting waiting area with educational video snippets about Wagyu beef, how to eat sushi (and no doubt other topics, but these were the two I saw). The staff were very pleasant and polite though not entirely knowledgeable. Our first indication of a potential disappointment was the lack of vegetarian options for my wife, with only a couple available. Personally I thought the menu looked interesting and creative and I should have tried the rolls, but I was attracted by the Wagyu burger, I should have stuck to the rolls, the burger was very greasy and the accompanying fries were dried out and tasteless. As my wife occasionally eats some fish she ordered the salmon and sweet potato, the whole dish was overly sweet, and pretty much inedible. I wish I could have written something more positive as it seems to have a lot of potential. Maybe it was just an off night, but I don't think I'll risk it again at the prices they charge. read more

Very thick cuts on hamachi appetizer could be sliced more thinly and evenly distributed across the plate. Otoro was chewy..not buttery. Scallop hand roll was terrible.. cold and pungent fishy taste not good. Delicious at Sapa. Seaweed was soggy. Rolls had too much rice and also soggy. Celebrated our anniversary at Miyazaki and couldn't have been happier. The food was delicious. The ceviche was the best I've had in SLC. The lemonade roll was quite unique and delicious. The fish served on the nigiri plate was some of the best I've eaten in SLC. Service was top notch and the staff was warm and welcoming. Joseph made us feel like old friends. Marcella's cotton cake was out of this world. It's clear why she's thought of as Salt Lake's best pastry chef. Miyazaki is a new favorite. read more

Love love loved their food! The manager was super nice and made sure that we had no shrimp in our dish (shrimp allergy) and the sushi tasted fresh! The mocktail, Shuriken, was great and then they have a fun alcoholic drink where they add a ball of basically smoke I think, to the top of the glass. BTW the waiting room is huge and comfy! This place is a bit expensive but I think they did put good effort into the dinnerware & overall atmosphere. We ordered nigiri and chirashi. The fish is absolutely fresh. The salmon tasted great with the flavor with a good balance of fat and lean parts. Tai is like a smooth butter. Fish roe bounced in my mouth. I can see how much they put effort into the unagi -- the thick greasy part has been adjusted well and the whole piece carries smoky flavor. One thing I'd neg about will be the rice a bit too watery and sticky. read more

Definitely worth trying all the food had awesome presentation and the mixed drink was pretty good! Lots of flavor! The chicken katsu didn't blow me away but for the price it was really good! Just got back from lunch there. I'm very impressed. Right away I was warmly greeted and was escorted to a waiting area while they prepared our table. We were able to see the certificates for the Wagyu beef and then brought to our table. The decor is very nice and our server Inglecio was attentive and helpful. He made me a fantastic margarita. We ordered the steak, miso, and steak salad. When they asked for feedback on the miso. We told them it was a little salty. Inglecio immediately told the chef and they gave us a wonderful egg drop soup and corrected the miso. The GM even came to check on us. The steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious. My favorite restaurant for food and service is Ruth Chris. I would say this is an Asian Ruth Chris based off of the food quality and service. I'm excited to come back to try the A5 Wagyu. read more

Sushi was delicious. Small menu but it was enough. Some places make it hard to figure out the many different rolls which are practically the same. This is more selective. We also had the beef tataki. To start off we had set a reservations for one of their outside tables. We did not get an outside table but instead received a table inside. We ordered and my drink was spilled on the table and they just left it as is. We ordered calamari and never received it. In the contrary the table next to us did receive theirs. It wasn't until we received our entree that I asked for it and at that point they came out asking if we still wanted it which at this point it was unnecessary due to us already having our meal. Honestly some of the worst service I have ever experienced. The food maybe good but the service definitely makes it undesirable. Not only was he helpful at determining the best cuisine for my evening, but he had excellent sushi knowledge, and walked me through each course as I dined. I highly recommend the fresh grated wasabi over your sashimi/nigiri (sashimi over rice), a steak entree, and a Japanese whiskey to finish your meal right. read more

I understand why Miyazaki is charging what they are, but for the price, there as good places to go. If price isn't an issue for you, go to Miyazaki. You won't be disappointed. We just got home from Miyazaki and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. I have eaten and a large number of Sushi hot spots in Los Angeles and this is among the top 5, their Takoyaki is the best I've ever had, and I've now ruined my girl friend for Sushi, Takoyaki, and steak. Dinner was: Takoyaki for appetizer. Otoro and Zuwaigani Sashimi. Hayao and Miyazaki rolls. A5 ribeye steak. As I said before the Takoyak is hands down the best I've ever had. Fresh, fried perfectly, succulent octopus, great size, and a mild very complimentary sauce lightly drizzled that made for an appetizer that we could have made a meal out of. Sashimi we remarkably fresh and the perfect temperature. The Zuwaigani was sweet and delicate while the Otoro was succulent and deliciously fatty. The accoutrement of wasabi and pickled ginger were first rate and given the quality and flavor of the fish, I honestly forgot they were there until I was almost done with the Otoro. The Hayao roll has Tempura shrimp, cucumber, avocado, spicy crab salad, topped with a triple sashimi salad and lime with spicy mayo, sriracha, eel sauce and jalapeño house sauce. It sounds busy and I was afraid the flavors would just meld without any discernable difference. I was very wrong. The interplay of richness and unctuousness of the sashimi salad, tempura shrimp, crab salad, and mayo. All played so well off the acidity and punch of the lime, jalapeno, and sriracha, that the flavors were distinct at first bite but give way to the individual flavors almost immediately after. The A5 ribeye was an A5 ribeye, in other words. Beyond any steak you'll ever have. I admit to putting our waitress and the restaurant to a small test, I tried to order the steak to a specific doneness. Our waitress very politely informed me that it's cooked the way the chef deems the right temp. This is what I wanted to hear because it's a good sign that the chef knows his product and is confident about the preparation and I was right to do so. Preparation and seasoning were PERFECT. Nothing else to say except get there ASAP and check it out. You will not be dissapointed. read more

Had exceptional service getting seated, we had reservations and it was a busy Saturday night. They first put us at the bar and we requested that we'd wait for a booth. They were excellent in quickly making that request happen. The big letdown was our server, took her nearly 20 minutes to even acknowledge us. Took our drinks and appetizer order. Came back with drinks ( mine was incorrect but she quickly responded and brought my requested order). She took our main sushi order but never wrote anything down, which is great, many are capable of remembering. We waited another 25+ minutes for edamame... which never arrived, and we were brought our sushi... which was incorrect. I let her know that wasn't our order and repeated that the spicy tuna had been order as 2 hand rolls ... there were two of us. She apologized and said to keep the mistake and she would correct if we didn't mind waiting, and we agreed. A bit later, she brings ONE hand roll .., we ordered two ... there were two of us and she had remembered originally to bring two of the spicy tuna cut rolls ... but apparently not that detail for hand rolls. Fine... we just left it at that. She literally never checked in on us at all throughout the meal and 30 minutes later she showed up with our bill, never asking if we were finished or wanting dessert. We absolutely LOVED our sushi, this is why we go! However this particular server the proceeds to hand us the bill which actually charged us for HER mistake as well as a hand roll! So I was explaining to her that I shouldn't pay for her mistake and she said, "well you ate it!" Umm ... she couldn't take the sushi back and it was HER mistake. I tried again to explain I shouldn't pay for her mistake and she was so blatantly rude, rolling her eyes and telling me I don't need to be rude. No I certainly don't, and I wasn't... but she needs to LISTEN to understand! Thats her job! Fortunately there was a manager assistant who was standing right there and I asked if she was the manager and she said yes, and the server immediately bursts out to tell the story. I just sat and listened... and then said, I'd like to explain what happened. Immediately the manager assistant jumped into action and took care of the bill, making it completely right as it should be. I love this restaurant and frequently visit. But one bad server can truly damper the experience. In this economy, it's a treat to go out and we expect to be treated appropriately for the money we bring into the business. Our correct bill was just over $100 and we were happy to pay. But that money can easily go elsewhere, where we truly get great service! I applaud the hosts seating us, the sushi chefs and the assistant manager!! Because of them ... we will return!!! read more
