ELOTE
Chris N.

Went to MIXT today for lunch. I usually don't go for salads much but my doctor has been pestering me to eat better, so here I am. I sure miss the days when we had Fresh Choice but this is all we have now. I got the ELOTE here and I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty a salad can be. It had avocados, grape tomatoes, cilantro, fire roasted corn and chicken to go along with this creamy lime dressing. Only thing I didn't like was the price tag of $18 for a bunch lettuce but hey these are the sign of the times. Try the ELOTE while it's on the menu (seasonal item).

My salad today came with extra protein, in the form of a ladybug. I took the salad back and they gave me my money back - no questions asked. Won't be returning, although I guess it's good to know that they really are "organic."

Spent $20 at mixt and all I got was this measly bread

Came into mixt today for a healthy lunch. It's been a while since I've eaten the salad and felt like some greens. I ordered the custom salad: mixed greens with steak, blue cheese, strawberries, red bell peppers, and sunflower seeds all with a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. I was given a slice of small bread. Total came up to $20, quite expensive in my opinion. The salad was decent. Almost reminiscent of Pluto's back in its heyday. But unlike Pluto's mistake here was already precooked and cold. Not entirely a bad experience but I expected bigger portions of bread and salad for the $20 I paid

Overpriced, yes. But everything is always fresh and portion sizes are big enough that I sometimes end up with leftovers. I usually go to the downtown Oakland location near my office but happened to be in this area for a doctors appointment and was coming up against lunch. I always get the Orchard salad but this time opted for one of their seasonal salads. It was just ok and the portion felt smaller than usual thus the 3 star review. Maybe I need to stick to what I know and like. I'm generally a big fan of Mixt but this visit fell short.

Was looking for a healthier dinner option, and SO glad I came across this place! Ordered the Orchard salad and it was DELICIOUS!! Everything is made fresh right in front of you, down to the fresh apples they slice and put on top of the salad. The staff also lets you sample salad dressings. Definitely left me feeling full but not stuffed and bloated (as I was debating between the burger place next door) highly recommend and definitely will be back!

DYO grain bowl. Added Chicken on top of a bed of quinoa & arugula ~$15

Ordered via Mixt app. Came out to about $15 for a DYO (custom) chicken salad on a bed of quinoa and arugula. My order was ready when I got there and it was delicious. Fresh ingredients every time and I can never finish in one sitting without getting full. They have some inside seating but not allowed during the pandemic. Some outdoor seating was plentiful to get some sunshine, or under the umbrella for shade.

The Hatch Salad

I have to comment that their logo is creative and very fitful to its name! The place is very green, healthy and a great choice to get your freshly tossed up salad on! For more or less $10-13 (average for a lunch in this area), you can customize your salad or order up the one that is decided for you on the menu! I got their Hatch because I was indecisive on what to put in my salad. The Hatch offered up chicken and kale as two of their many whole ingredients in that salad, so I figured I love them both - then get that one! Their chicken is flavored and crisp-ed nicely and the salad is enjoyable on a sunny day! Their dressing tasted very nice. I opt for the medium option on dressing. They ask if you want small, medium or large on your dressing toss up! Mixt Greens - fabulous for health, nice to hit the spot for lunch and not too heavy on the stomach to make oneself groggy - I like!

Typical build your salad place-- have to say it was pretty pricey though, and I would have liked to have more than the limit of 5 toppings before being upcharged. Service was pretty good and my salad was pretty much what you'd expect.

~$12 for a ridiculous amount of lettuce/greens and a small amount of chicken /avocado. Kept me relatively full for a while, dressing pretty tasty - but would've liked more substantial protein DIY salads always intrigue me for some reason. It's healthy, fast and fresh - it's not bad, but I think you can get a better salad at the ferry building for the same price TLDR: lots of greens, light toppings. Quick takeout

Afshin A.

Shade Of All Greens! If like me you are struggling to maintain, and occasionally reduce, the size of your belt, eating lots of greens for lunch is probably a very good idea! Wondering where you can get fresh and delicious greens (and other colors) that you can pick and chose to mix for a delicious salad? Mixed Greens has the answer! I usually make it easy for myself and just go with one of their regular salads like the Cowboy, but you can pick you can get creative if you want and invent your own salad too! If a salad is not enough, they do have sandwiches as well. I like the Disco and Rooster, but there is always the Royal and the Farmer too!

Shizen is a 100% vegan sushi spot and Michelin guided. I used to have a very great dining experience at Tane Vegan Izakaya in Palo Alto (another vegan sushi spot), so I just knew this place would hit! And I'm not wrong!!! I'm having a coffee date later so I only ordered two rolls: Candlestick and Boddy & Soul. Candlestick came out with a whole fire presentation, I was surprised and almost forgot to film. The roll had spicy tofu, cucumber, avocado, seaweed pearls, shichimi, and it tasted just like California roll no joke! I was shocked! (I mean it's not 100% alike but definitely around 80-90%) Boddy & Soul is recommended by staff. It's one of the most ordered item and I totally get the hype. The roll has tempura spicy tofu, green onion, sesame, spicy aioli, sweet soy. It's crunchy and the sauce was super flavorful, even better than some regular sushi I've ever had. You have to try it!!!!! Honestly I'd go back again multiple times just for this roll. Overall vibe was nice, service was good, food came pretty quick too. I'm not a vegan but I really enjoyed this place and for sure it converted me into a regular now!

Amazing food, absolutely excellent table service by Corbin (who was basically a one-man show!)…read more The food was tasty! And special mention to the jerk sliders. Highly recommended. I just felt like some of the entree prices were overpriced. On top of that-I wasnt aware of the 5% SF "tax". Other than that-pretty happy all around. SERVICE - located in the Castro district…read more- street parking can be harder to find especially on a weekend or Friday evening - expect a longer wait if you do not have a reservation - service is friendly and interacts with customers at tables and bar - food served relatively quickly - ambiance good for a semi formal meal MENU - global inspired shareable plates - all vegan/vegetarian - average price FOOD - pineapple tofu skewers (8/10): two skewers stacked with pineapple and tofu cubes with an adobo glaze. This was a great appetizer to share between 2-4 people. The tofu is soft and chewy while the pineapple is crunchy and fresh. The glaze on top is slightly spicy but pairs well with the sweet pineapple. The portion is a good size for an appetizer and the tofu makes it feel like a substantial dish. - roasted cauliflower (8/10): charred cauliflower florets on a bed of sikil pak topped with pickled onions and cilantro. This was my favorite of the dishes we ordered. The sikil pak is a unique spread that I had not seen before. The main ingredients are pumpkin seeds, tomato, and habanero, with the texture of a hummus but the flavor of a salsa. It is also a good size to share as an appetizer between 2-4 people. - garlic butter udon (6/10): udon coated in garlic butter with macadamia nut crumbles on top. This sounded good but was a bit of a letdown after the appetizers. I was hoping for more unique flavors or textures. An addition of something fresh like a pesto drizzle or roasted tomatoes may have added a boost of flavor and color. - kale walnut pesto rigatoni (7/10): rigatoni with kale and walnut pesto topped with blistered cherry tomatoes. I liked pasta better than the udon. The pesto was creamy yet fresh from the pistachio and lemon. The tomatoes added color and sweetness. The portion is good to serve one person or shared when mixed with other dishes. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes, though I would order more of the appetizers and I liked them better than the entrees.

The first time I came here, I got the strawberry matcha latte with my friends. We ordered it via delivery on DoorDash, and I'm not sure if it's just the whole delivery part, but I could not taste any part of the strawberry! It just tasted like regular cream on top. Typically I'm more of a coffee person than matcha, so I'm not a great judge in whether this was good matcha or not. But I guess it did taste ok in my opinion. The funny thing is, my coworker also said the same thing when she ordered the strawberry matcha latte a separate time! Disappointing. A separate time, we also ordered from them via delivery. This time I was eager to try their food items instead, since they have a pretty interesting selection, like those cake sandwiches and various Japanese items. I got the spam masubi, which I thought would be a solid choice. It did arrive warm, but the slice of spam that was in the masubi was so thin! It was the thinnest piece of spam I had ever gotten, and I've gotten spam masubis at a variety of places including ABC stores and other places in Hawaii, and even various stores in the States. The rice was okay, some brown rice thing with seasoning, that was decent but not my preferred white rice. Overall my two times here have been disappointing. I will really never line up for this place in person, nor will I understand why people do.

We tried the Tonkotsu Ramen and it hit the spot. The broth was rich and flavorful without being overly salty, the thin noodles had a great spring to them, and the chashu pork was incredibly tender and basically melted in your mouth. Also don't sleep on the dessert. Dessert at a ramen spot sounds random, but trust me here. The matcha cream pie was fantastic, and the mochi donut with ice cream was equally good. They also have a great sake selection. Be sure to put yourself on the Yelp waitlist before heading over because this place definitely gets busy.

The cucumbers were super fresh and crunchy, and the miso flavor wasn't overpowering. The hand roll was delicious too -- honestly, if we had a bigger appetite, we probably would've ordered a few more. For mains, we ordered the two most popular dishes: the tsukemen and the mazesoba. The tsukemen noodles were thick and tasty, and the broth was rich and flavorful, but I definitely found myself wishing there were more toppings or flavors to switch things up with each bite. After about halfway through the bowl, it started to feel repetitive just dipping the same noodles into the same savory broth over and over. My friend felt similarly about the mazesoba. It was flavorful at first, but once everything was mixed together, it became a bit heavy toward the end. That said, if you've never tried either dish before, I'd still recommend checking this place out! The restaurant was clean, the service was friendly, and I liked that you could join the waitlist ahead of time. Just be prepared -- parking in the area can be tough. We probably wouldn't come back since the noodle dishes weren't totally our personal preference, but I'm definitely glad we tried it.
