    Gobi Manchurian

Bir Kitchen is an absolute gem in the Mission and a place I'm already excited to return to. The staff were very warm and welcoming and the service was excellent throughout the meal. The menu leans into a really interesting Indian-Nepalese fusion, and it works beautifully. The palak paneer and rogan josh were the standouts of the night, with both arriving piping hot, absolutely packed with flavor, and with just the right level of spice (even the medium gave me a small sweat and I love spicy things!). The palak paneer was velvety and creamy while still tasting fresh and spinach-forward, and the rogan josh had deep, layered spices (with very little gaminess) in both the goat and the curry, though I personally would have preferred the goat to be a bit more fall off the bone. One of the most memorable moments of the meal was actually the way it began. Shortly after we sat down, they brought out a huge complimentary portion of papadum, generously topped with an assortment of chopped onions, tomatoes, and spices (I think that makes it a masala papad?). It was crisp, bright, and addictive and the kind of starter that immediately makes you feel like you're about to be treated to a really fantastic meal (which we were!). Between the warm hospitality, the thoughtful fusion of Indian and Nepali flavors, and dishes that are as generous as they are delicious, Bir Kitchen feels like the kind of neighborhood spot that you instantly add to your regular rotation. If you love bold spices, comforting curries, and genuinely kind service, this place is an easy must-visit in the Mission.

I really enjoy my experience here every time, the staff is very welcoming and the food is delicious. They make it flavorful, spicy and in generous portions. Inside, the tables are clean and well spaced, never had an issue with that. My wife and I really enjoy their Manchurian chicken, chow mein, and biryani offerings! This is my local Nepalese restaurant!

Great service, amazing food! Nice interior! Saw this new restaurant and decided to come support the new business and i'm glad I did! Will def come back! here is what we got: chicken 65 - honest better than i expected, presentation can be worked on but the flavors are there, although it's quite pricey for what it is chicken tikka - very good 5/5, nothing to add garlic naan - pretty good but prefer more garlic they gave us a free appetizer (not sure what it is) - pretty good, very light

Come in to slow down, and enjoy the delicious symphony of flavors and the easygoing relaxing atmosphere. The food is so amazingly flavorful, that my daughter and I savored every bite. From flavorful dumplings in broth (Jhol momo), crispy fulki panipuri, the platter with rice, goat stew and many side dishes, fluffy garlic naan, shrimp salad with perfectly grilled shrimp bursting with minty fresh flavor and mango lassi. Perfection. And we are taking goat biryani to go, since we are throughly stuffed but still want to try it. So it will be tomorrow's lunch, along with leftovers. We will be back to try the other dishes, and I highly reccomend you give this restaurant a try.

Absolutely loved the food here. Dined here on NYE and was immediately seated inside. They have plenty of seating space and the ambiance overall is pretty neat. We were a party of 5 including a toddler and ordered their chicken curry, chicken tikka masala (both entrees cage with rice), roti, goat thali and chicken chowmein. Everybody loved the food and the portion sizes were pretty decent. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Looking forward to being back here soon!

Bir kitchen is a new Nepali restaurant that is family owned and operated. Everything here from the staff to the food is warm and inviting. As the weather gets colder, fresh cooked food like this is perfect. I got the masala papadum, piro chatpate, baby corn manchurian, tandoori momo, and also the house special biryani. - The appetizers were really fun and crunchy to eat. The piro chatpate has crushed up instant noodle and seasoning, and eating it felt really whimsical. I think it would be a great bar snack with a beer. - I loved the baby corn manchurian! The chili sauce is savory, sweet, and tangy, while the corn adds a slight crunch. - It was my first time having momos tandoori style, and I really enjoyed the meat filling. Preparing it tandoori style takes a lot of time so I applaud the effort that goes into this dish. The homemade green chutney is superb, and the spice gradually adds as you eat more. - house special dum biryani is artfully made. I can taste the curated spice blend like saffron, cardamom, coriander, and more. This spice is the one that grows from your belly, not the spice that burns your tongue. Bir Kitchen has a huge menu, tons to choose from. Very vegetarian and vegan friendly. Perfect for sharing with a group. Please support small businesses like Bir Kitchen!

After reading some positive reviews on Yelp. We visited Bir Kitchen on a Saturday evening and impressed. The restaurant was new, clean and perfect for a date night or a relaxed dinner with friends or family. The booths were comfortable, dishes and cutlery were new and sparkly clean. The staff were welcoming and attentive without being overbearing. We started off with a delicious gratis appetizer. It was similar to a thin vegetarian tostada. We also enjoyed paneer pakora with tasty mint chutney. YUM! I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and my BF enjoyed paneer tikka masala with Naan and basmati rice. Everything was delicious and well seasoned. Prices were reasonable, especially for the quality. I'd absolutely recommend Bir Kitchen and can't wait to go back. Ideal for a romantic evening or any time you want fresh, satisfying Nepalese cuisine. One benefit is Reyna's across the street-The concha's smell amazing!

Super tasty food, affordable prices, and incredible service. My wife and I decided to eat out for the first time with our 1 month old and although it was a scary experience, the staff here accommodated us in the best way possible and made our experience thoroughly enjoyable. I think we may be able to eat out more often based on this experience. They even went as far as to offee to hold our fussy crying baby so we could enjoy the meal. Amazing job Bir Kitchen, we'll absolutely be back to explore the vast menu. They use super fragrant szechuan peppercorns in some of their dishes, which was very tasty.

The food here was phenomenal! I was excited to see that they had Nepalese, Indian, and Chinese food, and some dishes in between. We got the chicken momo thukpa, chicken thali, and of course the mango lassi. The lassi tasted so fresh, it made me realize that a lot of lassis I've had have just been concentrate, but this one tasted like I was eating straight mangoes. The momo in the thukpa were so good; the filling was extremely flavorful and the skin was perfectly bouncy. The soup cleared our sinuses and the delicious spice left us feeling warm and comforted. Everything in the soup was the perfect texture; nothing was too soft. The thali had a great variety and everything in it was delicious (the daal was a favorite). The AC had broke that day, so it was quite warm inside, but the food was so good I didn't care. We also got a free appetizer. I can't wait to come back to try the kebabs and the rest of the extensive menu!

The food was amazing as always. Everything was great, and the server was kind. Only one server for such a busy night, she handled every single table amazingly. We could see how busy the place was, but the kitchen staff's teamwork was impeccable.

The taste was absolutely delicious! I attended a work party and we ordered a variety of dishes. The sizzling platter included chicken kabab, pani puri with chana soup, veggie momo, chicken in jhol, steamed momo, chicken biryani, nan, chicken korma, and chicken fried rice. Each dish was incredibly tasty, but my personal favorite was the chicken biryani. The staff was also very friendly and attentive, making the overall experience enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning in the future. Ambiance also very nice with the Nepali artwork and handcrafted items.

Amazing momo and thukpa. We ordered chicken momo and momo thukpa(item name). It was super healthy, fresh and tasty. The service and ambiance of restaurant is inviting one. We saw people enjoying naan n curries and drinks. They have a great menu selection.

Towards the end of our meal around 8:15 restaurant was mostly full but still a few open spots. Food: Okra Fritter - okay, solid portion size, sliced okra in a pakora like batter that added a hint of nuttiness and a touch of spice, served with tamarind and mint chutney for dipping, fried crispy, fairly dry and not oily Onion Persarattu - a thin dosa sprinkled with diced raw onions served with 3 chutneys and rasam soup, dosa was very lightly seasoned, didn't see any of the green gram mentioned in the description, dosa lacked crispness and ate a bit soggy, chutneys were okay but fairly bland Paneer Tikka Masala - minimal spice, creamy with a hint of tomato, okay portion size wish there was a bit more paneer to sauce in terms of ratio, need more seasoning and wish this was a touch saltier Service was lacking, tables were set with plates napkins silverware and two bottles of water which was nice. The rest was a pretty mixed bag, felt rushed to place our order once the group was seated they checked in twice in the span of 5min to see if we were ready. Food pacing once orders were placed was fine maybe 10-15min for dishes to be prepared and served. Once we were done eating staff did not check in to close out our bill for 10 min, when we finally did flag a server down we wanted to pay with blackbird so they told us to checkin and we waited another 5-10min before we were actually able to pay the bill. There are so many other great Indian spots in the Mission, would suggest those over this spot.Food felt under seasoned, service was lacking. I will say price point felt reasonable and maybe the kitchen and staff were off the evening I visited.

Copra is an absolute masterclass in coastal South Indian cuisine that completely recalibrates your palate. The Fillmore space itself is gorgeous--dripping with lush greenery and high-end tropical energy--but the absolute culinary obsession happening on the plates is the real story. We ran through a massive spread, and honestly, the flavor profiles are loud, complex, and unapologetically bold. The Standout Drinks -Jaggery Sour It hits that perfect balance of sweet and tart, with the jaggery giving it a deep, complex molasses-like richness that pairs beautifully with the spice of the food. -Salty City: refreshing and addicting Food hits -Mysore Masala Dosa: My personal favorite of the night. The dosa itself has that elite, perfect crisp-to-chew ratio. Pair it with the tomato and coconut chutneys, a heavy dusting of podi, and that rich onion sambar, and it's pure perfection. -Thayir Vadai Chaat: A total texture bomb and another personal highlight. It's got this incredible contrast between the cool yogurt, sweet date chutney, and the crunch of the Madras mixture and cashews. -Varuval Sea Bass Collar: Absolutely phenomenal. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection under that heavily spiced varuval crust. The karavelli curry it sits in is incredibly rich, and pairing it with the clean, bright snowpea poriyal and basmati rice made it an elite main course. We also dug into the Shrimp Vennai Roast (smothered in a brown butter chili chutney that is pure crack) and the Slow-Cooked Octopus with that sharp jaffna rub and grapefruit. Dessert -Jigarthanda: You must save room for this. The frozen caramel milk bar combined with milk jam, nannari, and the crunch of candied cashews is elite-level dessert engineering. It's sweet, cooling, and the perfect antidote to the spice of the meal. Last but not least, you must try their filtered Indian coffee. It delivers a strong nutty subtle sweet flavor. Service is sharp, fast-paced, and genuinely passionate about the menu. It's vibrant, energetic, and entirely worth every bit of the hype. A shout out to Ser taking care of our group of 6. Loved the flavor of the rasam poori but two of them had holes in the bottom and leaked as we poured. The bone marrow and shrimp vannai roast were good as well. Unfortunately, the chutneys were very similar to each other and the truffle egg appam tasted too strongly of coconut, and I could barely taste the truffle or the egg. But still overall very good. The service was another story. We felt like the food came out at unreasonable intervals. We got the egg appam, bone marrow, poori, chutney palette, and shrimp in rapid succession one after the other. It barely fit on our table-- plates were half hanging off the side of the table. We felt rushed to eat it all because things were getting cold. It also happened to the table next to us and they had to ask the waiter to take something back to the kitchen temporarily because they couldn't fit it on their table. It was very odd and unexpected for a restaurant like this.

At one point, I asked for an extra napkin, and it was carelessly dropped onto one of our dirty plates. We were also asked to clear the table almost immediately after paying to make room for upcoming parties (as is their right, but they could have easily notified us of this earlier so we could plan accordingly - and the service hadn't felt particularly considerate or attentive up to that point). The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating and a separate bar area. The lunch buffet is $19.99 before tax & tip and seemed to be a pretty fair price. Now for the lunch buffet, there was a good variety of both meat and veggie curries along with basmati rice and a few appetizers (pakoras, etc). I enjoyed the tandoori chicken, butter chicken, dal and a veggie curry with spiced potatoes and peas. The dal had a nice flavor and a little kick and was a bit spicy, but paired well with the rice. The staff also brought over fresh naan, which was pretty good. The pakoras weren't too good, a little too salty, but the chutney helped. Customer service was friendly and attentive, with staff checking in occasionally on if we needed anything or wanted a refill of naan. I will say I assumed the chai was included with the buffet, and totally missed the signage that it was an extra cost. So, it was a slight surprise when we got the check. Otherwise, it was a pleasant dining experience and I was glad to find a Indian restaurant with a lunch buffet available on a Sunday, as most places only offer a lunch buffet during the workweek (Monday to Friday). Recommend trying out Apna Chulha if you're in the area.

Tried the balti chicken this time and it was just ok. It could improve on service..while waiting for our food we wanted to order more and had asked the guy working there (packing all the food) if it would be a long wait to add 1 more thing and he just said they're too busy and can't....mind you there was an hour still before closing almost so this was a little disappointing. However, their food is always delicious and packed with meat! The lamb biryani is easily shareable between 3-4 hungry adults. Can't wait to return back!

This was my first time having dosa, and I loved it! Not sure how much this is a review for Upudi…read morePalace as much as it is for dosa... but Udupi made my first dosa, so they deserve some credit! Idly ($8): I love idly. So glad to have a place in the city serving idly. That is all. Medu Vada ($8): I think this was also my first time trying vada! It was good, but not as good as idly. It was fried but not oily, which is always a win. But it was drier and denser than I hoped for. Not overly so, but I think I just wanted it to be like fried idly but in a donut shape. In that case, I should have just ordered fried idly and let go of the shape. That's on me! Podi Masala Dosa (~$15): Super yummy. I loved the crisp and chew of the dosa. Potatoes are always amazing. And the podi added a wonderful flavor. The portion was great, and I was definitely full. Service was prompt and friendly. I would definitely come back. It's a cute spot with dosa and idly, so what's not to like?

Authentic South Indian flavors and the food was served with a nicely hot temperature -- so it felt fresh. Delicious thali. The chole/channa taste was excellent. Our main server was helpful and friendly/courteous. The room for improvement is: The bathroom to go wash your hands in is very dirty. Also the filter coffee was over-extracted and tasted bitter.

The lamb biryani was perfectly seasoned with fragrant spices, the beef curry was rich, tender, and packed with flavor, and the garlic naan came out hot, fresh, buttery, and was perfect for soaking up the curry. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, authentic, and made with care. The portions were generous, the food arrived quickly, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. If you're looking for delicious Pakistani food in the Bay Area, this place is absolutely worth a visit. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu!

The original plan was to grab some lunch items at Whole Foods, but who doesn't want to try a new restaurant?! Walking into the restaurant, it's a little unclear if you order the counter and they bring you food or if you're seated and you order at the table. We quickly figured out that your order at the counter and then grab one of the tables and they will bring you your order. I found the restaurant to be unkept, and most of the tables that did not have customers sitting at them were super dirty. The tables hadn't been cleaned from the previous customer/customers. We had already ordered and it was that quick mental conversation of are we expected to clean the table so that we can dine there or what. Thankfully, a bus boy appeared, and he didn't seem overly eager to want to clean the table that we were standing at but instead wanted to clean one that someone was dining at. It was kind of odd. He took a couple of swipes at the table and it really just removed the food that someone had dropped all over the table. Just not a comforting feeling when you know that you'll be dining in that same spot. Our food came out fairly quickly, and I was super excited to have a good meal. We ordered the lunch special, which included a lentil/garbanzo, bean side, CTM ( chicken, tikka masala), rice, and naan. We ordered one mango lassi to share because we figured it was easier to try it, then order too much. You can always order more, right?! The mango lassi was very underwhelming. It locked through mango flavor, and that hint of tanginess. I just felt like I was drinking warm mango juice. I definitely have had better. With the lunch plate, we upgraded the naan to the cheese naan. I love carbs like anyone else does, but I found this to be basically bread that someone had put curry flavor in with a couple of cubes of cheese. So basically curry powdered bread. Yuck. The CTM, I found the chicken to be very sparse in terms of the portion size, and the chicken was very rubbery. It was overcooked, and I specifically had asked for little to no spice. Apparently that request was ignored. The lentil and garbanzo beans were tasty, but the garbanzo beans were undercooked, incredibly hard, and the flavor profile was really weird. It couldn't decide if it was supposed to be spicy, spicy, and salty, or something in between. The rice was OK. It had far too much fenugreek in it, and again the flavor profile, even combined with the CTM just was a little offputting. The guy behind the counter was fairly friendly, but it wasn't that warm and inviting friendliness. Is this a place I would go back to? No, not at all The one thing that I really enjoyed was the artwork on the walls.
